Virgin Trains signs off in style

- With the end of the Virgin Trains franchise taking place at 01.59 on December 8 after 22 years of running trains between London, Birmingham, Liverpool, Manchester, Glasgow and Edinburgh, to celebrate all that Virgin has achieved since it launched in 1997, the company has created a tongue-in-cheek music video featuring founder Sir Richard Branson, celebrities from across two decades and a host of Virgin staff.
In addition, the December issue of The Railway Magazine, senior correspondent Ben Jones will review what Virgin achieved in those 22 years, from inheriting well-used locomotives and carriages from British Rail to introducing two new fleets of train which revolutionised travel on the West Coast Main Line and now carries 40million annually on Virgin Trains. The issue is on sale on December 4.
From 02.00 on December 9, services will be run by First Group and Trenitalia, and their launch and proposals will be reported in the January 2020 issue on sale January 5.

Absolute respect. He didn’t have to do this, he could’ve just left and done nothing. The truth is that Virgin Trains changed the WCML for the better.
Absolutely right. Well done and thanks to Virgin trains. I for one will miss you.
And Avanti is nothing special.
@@Slothdeman avanti have done the complete opposite (to what op said)
@@SlothdemanSo did you know the Italian government (Trenitalia) state owned railways and First Group are behind Avanti West Coast? Not only is this a scandal itself, First Group have tried repeatedly since the mid 90s to steal the West Coast mainline and each time they have done so knowing their finances were not in order, so in other words, borderline fraud. The Conservative twice tried to give it to First, in 2012 and then successfully in 2019. Everytime I book First class, they always have some problems with food or the card machine, it's ridiculous! Virgin Trains can make a comeback if they work with another partner since Stagecoach is Barred. Arriva is rapidly collapsing, it would be great if Virgin could work with them to improve bus and train services. Virgin Trains is the one part of privatisation we should really aspire to and it is evidence that privatisation can indeed work if you set boundaries and have good regulation. Renationalising isn't the answer, you only need to look at Southeastern to see what renationalisation looks like.
Good on them for going out with a smile. In my view they were the best (although sometimes expensive) mainline operator. Better than my experiences with LNER, GWR, and East Midlands.
Two of what were the longest running franchises, both run with Stagecoach involvement, will be in the hands of First Group. What was SWT, and now Virgin Trains West Coast.
I hope Wirst do a better job than they did when they took over SWT.
They absolutely sucked hence they lost their franchise.
I bet that driver Had A Hard Time Concentrating With All Of That noise behind Him! 😂
Lol
(they probally use the training 390(033) and video effects to do it.
@@H4RL3Y448 either that or just do it when it's stabled in a depot and chuck green screens on the outside. The windows are definitely fake, which is something you can tell by the fact there is no detail on the outside. It also wouldn't be safe to a lot of the things they did (camera booms and tracks) at linespeed.
Thanks virgin was great for me seeing family in Birmingham
You were the only good operator on the network 😭👍👍🙌🙌 thank you Virgin Trains.
As if!
They were pretty shit
@@Gfynbcyiokbg8710 Just remember what replaced them :I
@@Mgameing123you have a point there
@@mildlydispleased3221 compare them to avanti
When I first ever saw this in November 2019, 4 years ago, Aah! 4 years ago!, I was very sad, Virgin trains improved the West Coast Mainline, I grew up with Virgin Trains, best operator, farewell Virgin Trains.
Nobody did it better or tried harder to improve our railways . Mission impossible was never seen as a drawback to Virgin Trains , who remain the brightest star in what is otherwise the mediocrity of the privatisation era .
whos here watching this in 2024?
Please bring them back now!
I wish 😢
They have just applies to the office of rail and road for a franchise, so the North West might get them back
They are coming back
They are planning on making a return, when I heard this, my dream came true!
Most people want Virgin Trains back as Avanti West Coast aren’t as good. But this advert will always be nostalgic.
Having worked with Virgin for a number of years before retiring, glad to see the back of Branson. Always wanting to publicize himself, it is about time he started paying UK taxes and not living as a tax exile.
All taxation is theft lol.
UK is donating the collected taxes to terrorist countries so i wouldnt say either
@@LGTheOneFreeMan this is the thing people say when they lack a basic understanding of the topic. Taxes pay for the NHS, emergency services, education, social care, benefits, roads and infrastructure - all things we take for granted and pay far less for versus if they were private because everyone contributes equally. Taxes are what's keeping you alive and healthy.
@@Silvera-Avian lol I'm an American. Your NHS doesn't do a damn thing for me except make me laugh, except that they're as useless if not more so than our insurers! While overpriced, at least we can get access to our healthcare.
ALSO. You have a significantly worse problem paying for the wants, needs, and welfare of people invading your country and replacing you. The emergency services; the ambulances are held up by globalist NPC subhumans who block your roadways, which the police do not POLICE anymore, aside from that they stab their own citizens in the back and protect foreign invaders cheapening what it means to be a citizen of your country. Oh and the fire departments are probably just caught in the middle between legitimate emergencies and every riot spawned by illegals. The education system has been perverted in every sense of the word including a sexual connotation, "social care" and benefits are being paid to your invaders and other thieves, and lastly your roads and infrastructure are falling entirely to shit! I have been seeing stories of pointless roadblocks and untouched road work, and deferred maintenance in all kinds of places turning your roads into something you would see in Russia after a rainstorm. Maybe even Mexico.
I can not believe you people have the cognitive dissonance not to see how far you've fallen as a nation. Your taxes aren't used to your benefit, and you have no choice in where they go. As a taxpayer I would rather my money be simply burnt in front of me rather than go to the places it does in my government.
Oh yeah, and we can have guns here too... and we can use them to terminate home invaders and mortal threats to ourselves and others.
@@LGTheOneFreeMan have fun with all your potholes lmfao
Unlike some drunk Connex Frenchman in a pub at Victoria 'Why does everyone hate us' 🤣
Bring them back, they absolutely shit on Avanti.
Great song.
"Time to Say Goodbye (Con te partirò)" by Sarah Brightman and Andrea Bocelli was released in 1997 and would be more fitting.
So long Branson.
0:20 they started singing
The 97 was the best bit
is it something that his virgin music record that would have been i even better.
Bring back Virgin trains, should have never gone in the first place.
I miss Virgin trains.
Thanks virgin for my super speedy journey from Blackpool north to Preston on a very nice pendolino 🥹
Never misses an opportunity to get attention
What A Sun dried BeeGee
I miss you
Something I didn't see coming
Oh no!
First....destroying travel😫😫😫
Sorry... I meant
First...transforming travel.
Avanti are 4 years into the contract and are running services horrendously like they did with Transpennine Express. Somehow Avanti manage to get away with it even though the customer service and services are shocking.
@@barblx_t7892 You are spot on. Avanti are a total disgrace
@@barblx_t7892 Labour are trying to terminate their contract as we speak
Apparently they're coming back now 😂
And now in 2024 (maybe 2025-26 by the time it actually happens) they're likely to be coming back as an open access operator
Considering how shit Avanti are by comparison, that seems like quite a good thing!
What is the song?
The time of my life
Christ I was just watching vids and this popped up. Didn’t even know VT stopped trading ☹️
0:31 I know this song I had it on a assembly
Why the hell did I thought the toy monster was Grimace 😈
its mr blobby
So who's running the trains 02:00 8th December to 01:59 9th December?!
Avanti
Avanti ran by first.
Kind of sad watching it ,end of an era
BR Intercity was better.
the east coast franchise on their was to end another rail franchise
And eventually Awany came…
I took a cruise on Virgin Voyages. Okay, but not great.

Actually the new Avanti refurbished trains are a lot better. The Virgin design was terrible. It would be nice if they could actually run them reliably.
Virgin’s design wasn’t terrible they were simply in need of an refurbishment because the trains were from the 2000s. If Virgin won the franchise they would of refurbished the trains as well. Also Virgin were far more reliable than Avanti.
No Airline, No Trains and, unfortunately, he’s bought “Yorkshire Bank” - another service disappearing............ he’s lost “the midas touch”.
Love this video and Richards sense of good sportsmanship however I wasn’t sad to see Virgin trains go. My family travel regularly on our railways and in our experience Virgin staff were rude and unhelpful on many occasions. The voyagers couldn’t keep time and the pendolinos really did make people sick. We generally went out of our way to avoid travelling by Virgin if there was an alternative.
Copy of the Aldi ad
How
I didn't know Aldi ran trains? also this is from 2019
Another one of Branson's ventures finally gone bust. It's a pity I didn't get to experience riding on the Virgin branded trains and see what all the fuss was about.
They didn't go bust they didn't get the new franchise
Why did they stop @Westcountrynordic ? Covid?
@@caellumrevolta2839 The UK govt decided to go with another rail operating company is all I know.
I wouldn't be surprised @Westcountrynordic , the UK government would do anything to cut costs or whatever.
its because they renew the franchise every so long (it’s basically like a contract) but from what ive heard stagecoach were disqualified (and virgin trains was joint virgin and stagecoach) and because of that avanti outbid them
Looked more like Sodom and Gomorrah!
one can only hope
You know none of that's real, right?
@@stevebarnes2 Is the pope Catholic?
Nope he is not catholic, he's actually an atheist.
i hated virgin trains one of the worst train franchise
vermin trains
Far better than the shitshow of a company that now runs the WCML tho...
why is it filled with political symbols? cant they just make a nice video to celebrate
Why was the last part dedicated to the gay dude
