I began my bachelor in 2022 at the age of 37🎉as my child is older now. I like you just decided to take the plunge and am so happy I did! It truly brings meaning to my life! My highest class mark was a 96 last term and I never thought I'd be one to achieve the grades I do and I do believe its because of my life experiences prior to heading back. I love watching mature student vlogs because 😂I can relate so much especially being in classes with students my daughters teen age haha. I recommend empty nesters to head back to school it is so rewarding! ❤Much love.

@@comienmoffat2551well I did it after a few curve balls in my life. I have started a diploma in community services which has students from University as it’s an integrated course between college and university with students studying a bachelors of social work and students studying just the diploma. I’d say age is no barrier and just to go for it. My class so far has 3 girls who are 17 then 4 who are my age 37 and then 3 over the ages of 45. Great mix of people. There’s lots of support to help you.

Well done! Very inspiring especially as you had young children… very brave! I’m 48 and starting a BA (Hons) in Theology in London (at a Durham University college) this Sept. It took 4 years to pluck up the courage. I’m extremely excited and daunted in equal measure. My children are 21, 19 & 17… I gave my ALL into raising them and being the best mum possible and now I feel it’s my time to do this. I must be honest in saying I’m really really nervous… not in how it will be at uni but more about my own ability, self discipline, etc.

I'm in a Bachelor of Fine Arts program (I'm in the US... I do wonder if degree structures are different in the UK?). It's studio art. I'm currently a working artist, but I want to get through my degree so I can teach college in the future. There are people of varied ages, but those who are older, and we're definitely in the minority, tend to keep more to themselves in my experience so far. Community college was definitely a better experience for me vs. a four year university.

My mum was a mature student. She started in her late 30s and I was a young teenager. I think the best you can do for her is support her. If you live with her, try to take on as many household duties to give her more time. Be patient and understanding. This is something I really wish I had done. Instead, I gave her a really hard time for not having more time for me. I just didn't understand but it must have made it harder for her. Good luck to your mum x

Where there is a will, there is a way! You will do great as long as you stay focused and have a good support system. I also went back to university when I was 33 and had 4 kids. I'm now in the second year of my undergrad. physics degree and do not regret the decision going back to school. It is difficult at times, but you just stay focused. Try to learn/understand what motivates you so you can go back to it in hard times to bring you back on track. It is definitely an interesting time in my life and i wish you would enjoy your uni journey too. Good luck! :)

Erm, i have too admit, my university experience was ALOT difference from this as a mature student.
I kinda want to make my own video on this because in my experience of university...this is not accurate.... im now doing a Masters degree at 38 years old.
Its the best experience ever, but the 'kids' view you as old, bit clicky, but as a mature student, the life experiences we have are actually very beneficial to our studies. I was in receipt of child care grants and they did cover at least 70% of it, the maintenance loan and grants cover the rest tbh. I suppose everyones situation is unique on that point.
In my uni, you get 100 a year in book tokens to spend on books in the bookshop, whilst i spent these, i never used those books. I found them overly complicated to understand and a lecturer once told me..... if a book doesnt speak to you and you dont like how its worded, dont use it. Much like a novel you may want to read.
I got a 2.1 in psychology. I am now doing a masters degree with two children and a part time job... its hard, but its soooooo possible. And dont worry, everyone goes through a point of wanting too give up....just makes the graduation even better. You did it 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
Nothing worth it ever came easy, remember that guys and enjoy the experience. I wasnt their to make friends and get in clicks with younger people, i was there to study. Sometimes i did feel abit lonely, but the lecturers are also our age and they are amazing.
Feel free to msg or ask me questions if you fall on this video aswell, im not sure how id feel if i saw this before going to uni, no offence to the original poster. Xx

We all have different experiences, and it's good to share them. I am so grateful for the friendships I made at university even as a mature student. It was hard work, but I gained a 2:1 in philosophy, politics and economics which was worth it for me. Things like childcare grants change a lot. I started in 2011, and there wasn't much help available then sadly.

In Scotland, if you have been out of full-time education for 3 years you qualify for an access course before uni which then puts you into their category of “mature student” or “adult returner” or “widening participation”. I’m 28 but last year on my UoE Access Course there were people in my class ranging from 21-60’s. If you feel at home in the “mature student” category then by all means use it ❤️
