enjoyed your vid-nice job. You should have expanded a bit more on the 19-21 years though (type ra block, revised ecu tune, revised intake, & type ra's cat back). The 19-21 years will be sought after in the years to come imho.
Facelift/Series 2 has slightly different interior trim colouring too, along with thicker door glass+foam filled beam around windshield for lower noise. The front of the car was tweaked for better frontal collision performance. Cluster markings are different too.
baderbuilt and remmysti both busted this myth that the RA short block is nothing special, but did a comparison that the piston skirts are bigger and better support for the wrist pins but still having Ringland failures.
awesome video, thank you! Do you know where that footage at 7:45 in your video came from? I recall a subaru commercial back in 2016ish that was similar but have not been able to find it recently
Buddy just a small correction, the rear axle/suspension setup is multi link, not double wishbone. You can actually see all the “links” in that picture in the vid :)
just a personal note for the head unit, I loved my 2017 sti's head unit and wish my 2020 had the same. dunno why but I never had a bluetooth issue with the 17, same phone and everything. other then that no other problems
@carswithsepp Ya it's inconsistent, sometimes it just drops and you have to close Spotify and reopen it to work. The 17 never had this issue. I thought it was my phone but i haven't got a new one yet so i dunno
Personally, I would choose the one you would enjoy owning more. I believe the VB WRX has a lot of good performance for the money, and it many ways outclasses the STI, but the VB WRX will be around for awhile with new models coming for the next few years. Whereas the STI is in limited supply now, and good condition ones getting rarer and rarer. They will increase in price in significantly over time and be gems for those who were able to buy one in the next couple years. Just my opinion tho! Either way, both are great options.
The STI motor in stock form even the RA is still weak cat pistons. Now the trans is bullet proof for sure. The RA has slightly thicker skirting but for those wanting to make a lot of power go closed deck with forged internals.
I have a 2019 WRX STi, how can I tell if I have a early model or later? I know the door panel will tell me, but how can I tell with the changes from 18-19 years?
Proud ex-owner of a 2017 STI. after getting walked by a granny in a 2003 v6 camry merging on a freeway. That was my last straw, traded it for an 2018 F80 M3 Comp.
I have a 2018 limited STI. It has the upgraded recaros, push button start, etc etc, but I don't have the rain sensing wipers or the lane detection, reverse warning and there's nothing in my side view mirrors. Are you sure this safety tech isn't an upgrade package?
Safety stuff for the limited I found on page 6/12 on this document cdn.dealereprocess.org/cdn/brochures/subaru/2018-wrx.pdf auto wipers found in this press release media.subaru.com/pressrelease/1108/1/subaru-america-announces-pricing-updated-2018-wrx-wrx
@@Craiggg12345 Those are cool. I liked the seats in my 04 STI better than the Recaros in the 18 I have now (I think Sepp even mentioned that in this video).
2019+, the upgraded pistons is what ultimately remedied the ringland failure that plagued all 2004-2018 sti. (Excluding 2018 type RA since it has the same engine).

Type RA engine is not that much better then the regular EJ257, I would say 2018 to 2021 Limited fully loaded are the best ones, all the rest you can add or modify easy, I even seen people that actually like the front from 2015. For me was really important to have white red odometer 😅
@@MsAkmc False. While the s209 sand Type RA sure are special. Overall the original STi models are exactly what they were intended to be. I miss my 21…. But it’s okay. I’ll replace it with a 11-13 hatch

How do you even have a stock one
I'm am so happy I am the proud owner of a 2020 WRX/ STI and it is the best car I have ever owned.
Only 3 or 4 years old, best not jump to conclusions WITHIN THE FACTORY WARRANTY PERIOD

Front bezels were also changed for 2020-2021. Rear sway bars were also changed from 20mm to 19mm in 2017 or 2018.

Great video! 2016 here, love my STi!
I have a 2014 wrx with a 2015 sti steering rack and that jawn nice af. Feels like it should have come with it from factory.
Lifesaver mate, very informative and earned a subscriber. Thank you!
2017 STI (Type UK) here in ice silver. Awesome car. I only wish it came with parking sensors!
You need them?
Owner of a 17 STi Limited, side note my son just visited the STi Gallery in Tokyo last weekend!!!
Had a 2019 WRX and exentually traded for my 2021 STI. Not the fastest but def makes me smile every time i drive it
I’m trying to figure out if I got played 😂 why am I just now finding out about rain sensitive wipers? I have a 21’ limited and no clue about these
4:00 not in Australia it didn't. Still got the same engine as previously. No RA block upgrade for us :(
Very informative. Appreciate it !
Thanks!
I have a 2018 STI in the dark gray metallic. An absolute beauty of modern cars. I want a second STI.
When one STI is not enough 😅
Thanks man. Helpful
Thank u I've learned a lot from this.
was waiting for the mention of s207 s208 and s209. But still, a good video showcasing the VA generation.
I made a video on the s series STI’s ! I go through them on there

18-21 sti brakes are mono block front and rear too
Nice video, another observation is that the interior trim went from a carbon fiber look, to gloss black in the 2018 facelift.
Should I get a 2019 Sti just because it’s the last sti, or should I get the new vb wrx just because it’s the best engine wrx ever get ?
