I just wanted to say thank you for all your videos and you taking the time to make them. I have learned alot from them, some stuff I already knew but some things was like 'ah ha' moments. Keep up the good work and informing folks how easy it would be to take care of them selves in an emergency and camping situation.
You mentioned hot fluids in that disposable container... HUGE MISTAKE! Very few disposable bottles are 100% BPA free and the majority that aren't can, and do, leech harmful chemicals with heat. just spend a few bucks and get a Nalgene bottle or any other that ARE 100% BPA free and since these also (almost) always have fluid measurement markings, problem solved and no risk of harmful chemical exposure just to save a few dollars. Not to mention the tendency of tapes to move around and leave a sticky gooey mess behind if they get hot.
I love duct tape. I remember the original 1980s Macgyver TV show where he used duct tape in some situations, and mentioned how useful it was. That and Swiss Army knives (which I love too).
About the only thing most people don't use Duct Tape for is taping Ducts together.
👅tape 2 ducks together
+janet gray Dude, don't do that. I tried that once and I nearly died.
mobiltec: taping a duct tape around a plastic bottle for measurement is what"impressive" wow. why not use a sharpy
It's not good using a normal PET bottle for refilling. The plastic it's made of degrades faster and compromises the water's quality. Even more so in hot weather.
This is one of those tips that is so simple, yet so great it makes one wonder, "Why didn't i think of that?" Thanks for sharing!
duct tape placement, brilliant! So much better than rolling it around my arm : )
I always wondered why you had that bare patch on your arm... mystery solved ;)
Thanks Camp. Hope you're having a great weekend buddy!
Guerrilla Tape!
Great tip. Now I have yet another use.
Easy tip, an easy prep for the trail you know the food your taking so no thought has to go in when tired or hungry also allows for easy brew up in a group one puts up shelter the other presto two cups of brew with no thought, cheers
Happy trails
Thanks for advocating recycling these Gatorade plastic bottles.
Woah! Two videos today! This is so intense! XDXDXD First comment and all that stuff, you are amazing! And as always, I will see you on a trail!
Great tip. This will sure come in handy.
Wonderful Stuff John.. Definitely a clever adjustment to the trusty duct tape dispenser.. Can never have enough of the sticky stuff. :-) Great seeing you my friend!
Thank you so much Sara! I'm certainly in full agreement with you there... thanks to Chris' handy tip I can now be assured of no more soggy freeze-dried backpacking meals ;)
Awesome to hear from you btw... it's been far too long. Hope all's well down your way my friend!
Great tip! And its an excellent fire starter as well. Thanks for sharing!
Thanks my Brother... much appreciated! Hope all's well up your way!
Yep, that was a good tip. You're right, who knew the placement of the tape could be as useful as just having the tape. Already sub'd to both channels, thanks for all the great tips...
Thanks Jim :) Funny how it's always the simplest seeming "tricks" that really help out while on the trail, eh?
All the best my friend!
Like you said... Simple tip but incredibly useful. Thanks for sharing and congrats on your new collaboration with Sierra!
Peace,
Shane
Fantastic video and tip. Very much appreciated.

Always useful things, thoughts, techniques and gizmos...keep up the good work.
Love the idea. I will have to try it.
Great tip!
Thanks for the tip!
Our pleasure :) Thanks for taking the time to watch and comment Ron.. very much appreciated! -John
Very handy, Thanks
So nice man!
I have a nice metal waterproof flashlight that I wrapped duct tape for 2 reasons:
1) better grip
2) for those time you have to use your mouth as a spare hand it is easier to hold with your teeth. It may sound gross but you know we all have been there.
Thanks for the water bottle tip.
Definitely been there man, lol. Thanks for passing along the tip Brother... much appreciated.
Dude, I thought you swiped my power-ade bottle with the black duct tape! I prefer the other brand's taste, but I hate the orange lids. Love your videos!
Great minds think alike.... ;)
Thanks for the compliment btw... much appreciated!
You mean to tell me there is more than one use for duct tape? Wow! Where have I been!
To be honest John, STP has some cool videos, but a lot of them I don't care that much for. Your content is more on the side of what I want to see. But keep it up!
Saw a video comments where people were complaining about nasty duct tape on water bottles. Never tried it yet.
That was a realy neat tip thanks for sharing atb john
So cool...
thanks again sir !!
Hey buddy! Excellent recommendation there!
Good idea thanks a lot
Kool...good idea.
Congrats on the collaboration!
Thanks buddy! It's definitely been fun so far :)
Cool tip for duct tape!
Simple and useful.
Cool video great tip thank you
Thanks brother... much appreciated.
very clever!
That's cool, but I think I would mark 2 cups from the bottom as well in case I had to drink some on the way, I would also know where to stop.
Plus, I would not put hot liquids in a plastic bottle for consumption purposes. Crap leaches out of that plastic.
Yup. A nice simple trick.
John, thanks for sharing with us an excellent tip. By the way, how is the dog you took on some of your hikes? Dee
I'm enjoying watching your videos and they're filled with great content, but I wish the titles for some of them -- like this one -- were less vague so I could know if it would be useful to me (this one in particular isn't) before waiting for the video to buffer and watching it.
I'm really happy to hear that you're enjoying the videos my friend :) I hear what you're saying about some of the titles... some of them could be more specific in order to help you find what you're looking for more easily (I'll gladly keep that in mind going forward). Thank you very much for your constructive feedback, taking the time to watch, and for your very generous words regarding my content... it truly means a lot to me.
*Classic silver duct tape optional. :) - Chris
You should see my neon green wrapped one... it's totally customized ;)
Measure two cups from the bottom of your water bottle. Then, you can drink from the top if you need to. You may also run out of water and you will only need to find 2 additional cups of water to get your measurement, instead of a full bottle minus the top part.
Great tip
Thank you.
Wow, you are some kind of sorcerer
A nice wittle twip!...lol.
Huh, never thought of that...
I love those water bottles, they are durable, about one third the weight of a nalgene water bottle and much less expensive. When the bottle begins to show wear just drop it in a recycle bin and buy another, usually for less than $1.00, and they come pre-filled with a tasty beverage. :-p
Cool!
can you do a video on how to tie the Canadian Jam knot?
Good idea !
Enjoy .... The Simple Life
Hi, unrelated comment, but I'll ask anyways. What kind of camera or cell did you use for this video? It's razor sharp?
good stuff ty
Thanks Ben... much appreciated.
cool tip!
Thanks :)
Good simple idea, however not sure if I want to put hot liquids in a plastic bottle that can leach any BPA chemicals into your water, unless it is a emergency to hydrate yourself.
1:07 to 1:08, where they're both looking to the sky and everything looks yellowish.. where is that? Its stunning.
Great idea, but as far as the insulation part... if the liquid inside the bottle is hot enough to burn you, then it's too hot for that bottle. A typical plastic bottle like that cannot withstand the heat that our hands can.
J.k man ur the best
Omg thanks
You're welcome. Thanks for watching and commenting Ricardo :)
i do the same thing with a SHARPIE

Clever use. I use ducktape to make can or bottle Koosies. You can make them any size to fit any bottle or can, use velcro to make them adjustable too. Come check out my craft channel if you like: Thanks.
Great
Thanks a bunch my friend.
Unbelievable, you should have been on blue peter
Ah but you would have needed sticky back plastic for that!
are u from Canada
Every body knows that
I could use a sharpie...
Who was the big guest, did I miss something or somebody

hot drink in plastic bottle ? o.O
Same with a plastic bag and a permanent marker
100% Jaydan 👍
Thanks for taking the time to watch and comment... it's very much appreciated :)
Watch the red and green show for funny duct tape tips! ;)
Wtf just draw a line on the bottle
duck tape is a cure all lol
...or you should just use a sharpie...
Thank you very much for the suggestion Vicky. I've tried using Sharpies in the past, but they tend to wear off rather quickly when out in the field. Best regards....
CAUTION! MOST Duct Tape, is CRAP, & NOT what the Pro HVAC guys use. Look for the better stuff and or Gorilla Tape. TOUGH Stuff. (47 yrs Service tech, US Navy Mechanic, etc. Life long Camper etc. & DIY-er)
That's the worst trick I've ever seen.
