The dub might sound silly today, but back when this version was released no one complained about the voice acting because most other dubs were pretty much on par or worse. So we really didn’t know better or care, anime was so scarce back then we took what we could get. Plus the movie was so mind blowing and amazing it didn’t really matter.

Im glad to own the 25th Anniversary Blu-ray/DVD combo pack from 2013 because it gives me the option to pick whichever dub I want to watch it on. Something that the 2001 Pioneer DVD release with the new dub only didn't allow unfortunately. And I fucking hated that. God bless those who put both dubs on the 2013 Blu-ray/DVD pack and screw those asswipes at Pioneer for basically saying to us with the 2001 release, "You can either watch it with the new dub, or in Japanese OR NOT AT ALL. Grow up!"

I think its mainly because when the original dub came out. America didnt really take anime seriously as an art form, so that original dub has a lot of quality control issues. The 2001 dub had a budget, a better translation, and phenomenal talent behind Kaneda and Tetsuo, and thats mainly because we developed a bit more of an understanding on how to dub things over the years

I just *knew* Tetsuo called Kaneda a "f--ker." I've seen the movie about 40 times and most of my viewings have involved the Streamline dub. Also, Kaneda actually calls the one cop "fish face."
the movie itself is kind of a mess and isn't that great. it was finished before the writer finished the manga. akira is an animation masterpiece though and is something everybody should see at least once
What's funny about Akira's dub is that the localisation of Akira to a comic had lots of effort put into it. From what I've heard Otomo really liked comics including their colours. So he was quite involved with the colouring, he even redrew parts of the manga to flow nicer as it was also flipped to be right to left.

I just *knew* Tetsuo called Kaneda a "f--ker." I've seen the movie about 40 times and most of my viewings have involved the Streamline dub. Also, Kaneda actually calls the one cop "fish face."

the movie itself is kind of a mess and isn't that great. it was finished before the writer finished the manga. akira is an animation masterpiece though and is something everybody should see at least once

What's funny about Akira's dub is that the localisation of Akira to a comic had lots of effort put into it. From what I've heard Otomo really liked comics including their colours. So he was quite involved with the colouring, he even redrew parts of the manga to flow nicer as it was also flipped to be right to left.

He's voiced by Cam Clarke who voiced Leonardo and Rocksteady in the original Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles cartoon series from 1987-97

This is beautiful, all other english dubs cower in fear compared to this, bless the people who were involved in this dub for they have brought me everlasting joy, I'm a better person simply for having witnessed this.
For teenagers, they all sound middle-aged in the original dub.
