      Hi, how much coolant did you loose?

    • @bennieaust
      @bennieaust  Рік тому

      @@Iosif.dumitru01 the longer you drive it the more you will loose. It’s not a big leak, but you could lose gallons of coolant if you just keep driving it.
      I personally replace the part as soon as I now it’s leaking so I’ve lost maybe a quart of coolant before fixing it.

      I just looked under the car and there is no leak, The smoke from the exhaust is transparent. How do I know that is the oil housing to blame? It looks clean.

      @@Iosif.dumitru01 , I wouldn’t start replacing parts until you can pinpoint the problem. If you’re not leaking coolant from anywhere I wouldn’t replace the oil filter / cooler housing.

      Gaskets yes, bolts no. Make sure you clean out the bolt heads and have the triple square security in the bolt. They tend to get full of crude. If you clean them out you will have no issues with them.

    Looks like I have a leak from the oil cooler housing too. However, oil have filled my coolant tank up top. Should I go ahead and replace the oil cooler housing first, then suck the oil out the coolant tank. Then do a coolant flush, and oil change ?

    • @bennieaust
      @bennieaust  6 місяців тому

      Yes, I think that would be the best approach. Also when you get the old cooler off, insect it and try to confirm that’s the issue. It’s usually pretty obvious.

    2011 golf/jetta tdi owner here.
    Car started to eat up coolant about 4000 km ago. It's really weird because it only happens about every 1000km or so. The coolant loss also varies, from 1 dl to half a liter. No other symptoms, no overheating, no warnings no nothing. I suspected some plastic seal surface gave out. Looks like this may be the issue.

    Hi, great info, thanks. On a 2005 Passat TDI I changed the thermostat, since the car was in TN and not driven very much, I suspect that the thermostat was bad for many years. I did not touch the heater core ni ..pples as I know they break, so I would just let it burp out over a few days and top off with coolant. Then I had a coolant leak, couldn't track it down, finally checked under the cowling, it was wet, moved the clamp back so it gets on fresh hose, then still leaking and found the ni...p1e was cracked. Bummer. Dashboard out repair. Bypassed that with the U shaped Dorman hose, still leaking but a lot less. So I guess putting the old parts up to 190 degrees and I maybe more pressure caused two failures.
    Put some dye in it. I see a leak under the engine, basically straight down from the center rear of the engine by the firewall. Any guesses on what that might be? Thanks.

    • @bennieaust
      @bennieaust  Рік тому

      You're welcome!
      Unfortunately, it's hard to say without looking at it. All I can really give you is general advice. I don't believe there are anything but heater hoses back by the firewall, but you will need to pinpoint the leak before replacing anything. Try to find the highest point that is wet with coolant, then look around that area. The only thing that could complicate that method is that sometimes a coolant leak can be a pin hole in a hose that sprays out when under pressure and soaks a completely different area. It can absolutely be a pain sometimes to pinpoint, but then you get if fixed right, without replacing good parts.
      Best of luck with the repair!!

    I’ve replaced this part and it did fix my main water leak problem and the warning lighting I was getting saying low oil pressure stop car check manual, so it definitely needed replaced and fixed this main issue but it hasn’t stopped my water leak completely I’m seeing water drip from just behind it but I can’t see where it’s coming from. It seems to be a pipe that’s hard to get to or see to diagnose where the leak is coming from or which pipe it is. Any ideas?

    • @bennieaust
      @bennieaust  Рік тому

      There are a couple other coolant fittings, hoses and pipes in at area. Unfortunately it sounds like you will have to pin point the leak know what needs to be replaced. There is a hose that attaches to the filter/ cooler housing. Make sure the hose is good and that the clamp it secured. That probably the best starting point.

    Hi , I just got the mysterious coolant leak, in my 2012 jetta tdi!
    is the oil cooler housing similar because they have the right side up oil filter housing and no intercooler in the way .
    I’ll probably pull a vacuum on the system and see if it’s leaking there.
    Thanks for the video!

    • @bennieaust
      @bennieaust  Рік тому

      I believe it’s the same exact part. The link in the description is for the part from Amazon, you should be able to confirm fitment on Amazon. If you don’t have to deal with the intercooler it should be a much easier job.

      No, but I would recommend an oil change after you install the new housing. There could be coolant in the oil system and will now have a new oil filter anyway.

    Im trying to diagnose my gfs 13 passat tdi and am 80% sure this is it so thanks for making this video its hard to tell for sure but coolant is running down the oil pan and a significant rate and this part seems to be the highest. Would this also cause the heat to stop working or is it more likely to be a heater core as well as this?

    • @bennieaust
      @bennieaust  Рік тому

      80% sure is about as good as it gets. When you have the old one removed you can look at it and then you'll see the issue and be 100% sure. It sounds kind of funny but that's how it goes for me every time.
      No heat especially starting out on the passenger side is definitely the heater core. I have replaced about a half dozen of them on these cars. it's a little annoying to get to, but not a terrible job.

    My 2009 audi a3 sline 2.0 tdi automatic, loses its coolant, no wet spots under the car, and no smoke from behind. Most of the people say its engine head being made from bad material and it leaks in engine trough microscopic holes or something. Do you think this may be the problem?

      I would definitely take a look at the oil filter housing. Sometimes they will leave a puddle under the car but usually they will leak when you are driving, and the system is under the most pressure. There may even be some coolant puddling up on top of the underbelly shield that never shows up where you park. I've seen enough of these fail that I would definitely investigate it.

    • @bennieaust
      @bennieaust  Рік тому +1

      Sorry, I don’t have a video on replacing it.
      The leak can vary. Some days it won’t leak at all and other days it will. It never pours out, but it can be a pretty steady drip. You will never get a good view of the exact spot it’s leaking from so if it leaking from that area, that’s probably it.
      The good news it that when you take the old one out you will confirm immediately that it’s the problem by seeing the failure point.
