At long last, my remake of my DOOM 3 cover! I think I've come quite a long ways since the first time I covered this.
With the previous version, I had absolutely no idea what tempo or time signature this was actually in (though, even after all this time, anything outside of 3/4 and 4/4 time still confuses me a little). So the drums had been really off in places because of that.
I also didn't have my bass guitar yet when I did this the first time around, so I was pretty happy being able to do the opening properly now.
I've also reused some clips from the old version (some were pitch shifted up by 100 cents to match this new version). I had reused the clean guitar bend, and pick scraping, but this time I changed up my effects chains a bit. I also reused the dissonant-sounding leads heard from 1:28-1:43. I've also reused some of the video clips since I still liked the way the video turned out when I did the first one.
Aside from reusing those things, I've redone and re-recorded everything else. The drums are much closer to the original's, however I still left out the drums in the opening. For some reason, with my setup, it just didn't quite sound right to have the drums come in until later.
I'm also really happy with how the rhythm guitar sounds this time around too. I've been doing some slight tweaking with my current setup and I think it has worked out pretty well!
The lead melodies and harmonies are about the same as before, only with some very small, subtle changes.
Some new additions to this are the inclusion of the "chants", breathing, and that one scream (1:55).
I decided to do those indiscernible "chants" at 1:07 and later at 2:28 to add a little extra heaviness, plus I've always felt like something was missing at 1:07 before I did this. So I proceeded to grab my mic and did my best Cookie Monster voice. I really like how it sounds for the bit that starts at 2:28. Fun fact, since I (still) have no idea what words were actually being spoken in the original, I just went with what sounded the closest: "We. Want. Sound."
There's also the "breathing" or more accurately, "exhaling". I really wanted to add those in since the original had something similar. Whether they actually used real exhales or ran a different sound through some effects, we'll never know.
As for the scream at 1:55, I wanted to try and imitate the original's since I liked the way it kind of builds up hype right before it changes back into the main riff/chords. Once again, I've used the scream I used for "Descent into Dementia" I swear, I'm getting great mileage out of that scream clip. Here, its a bit different though, since I pitch shifted it up by 400 cents, in order to match the pitch with the original's.
I'm just really happy that I was finally able to make the DOOM 3 Cover that I've always wanted (I just wasn't quite up to the task back then).
So I'd like to give special thanks to Niko for suggesting that I redo this track. I also want to thank all of you whom voted for this track during the first Cover Battlegrounds =)!
Anyways, I hope this one was worth the wait! Hope you all enjoy this remake, and look forward to seeing the "Secret DOOM Cover" next time! ~DAR

The melodic parts of the added guitar gives this such a slick and renewed dramatic tone. The main riff sounds so much more like a tragedy or a catastrophe is going on. Great job m'dude, you gave more soul to the theme
Look around Marine, everyone liked the vídeo, and soon, you will join them.
Sounds like heavenly version
Fucking sick redux... My favourite part of the original song - and all it's covers - was always this part (starting at 1:26). That riff is pure fucking HELLFIRE.
Anybody else think that the D3: RoE Marine partially resembles the original Doom Marine (particularly the PSX Doom cover art)?
Always loved that part too, along with the final part of the song. Also, now that you mention it, the RoE Marine really does bear a resemblence to the PSX Doomguy from the box art. ~DAR
Fantastic work.
Just when you thought that it couldn't get any better... is the moment your proven wrong. AWESOME!
This is perfect, the definitive version of this for me now
This is great, well done mate.
Hell yes. I very much approve.
The best cover both visual and sound. I like how you carefully approach the lore. Thx man. I'd like too see a mod for the main menu with your theme.
If you are going to keep remaking your old tracks, I'd love to see Shawn's Got the Shotgun redone. Your original cover was pretty good, but I'd love to see it updated like this one.
Now I'm curious as to how it would sound with my new mixing techniques, along with this new guitar tone. Definitely adding this to the next Cover Battlegrounds. ~DAR
i realize Im kinda off topic but do anybody know of a good website to stream new series online?
@Brooks Jalen I would suggest Flixzone. You can find it on google :)
You nailed it. You friggin' nailed it.
When I heard 1:55 I thought to myself "that was good".
2:30am and I cranked that shit up. Screw the neighbors.
That's the part where I said "hell yeah" too.
Damn, more than 2 yrs already... (hlping the algo as well ;))
That one dislike is prob came from the dr.betruger
The Guardian, The Cyberdemon and Sabaoth also gave it a dislike, may they rot in Hell
Hooo😊
I have to admit, he scores with reduxing Doom 3's theme. As for DAR, we're you inspired by Doom 3 as well as RoE and Lost Mission to make something like this?
Absolutely, I love Doom 3! I never got to play the BFG Edition so I actually didn't know about Lost Mission until now though. ~DAR
@@DAR-Davester2296 Well, Doom 3 BFG Edition has Lost Mission and yes Resurrection of Evil (all because it's the most accessible). But here's one trick that I did learn: If you have the original Doom 3 with the Resurrection of Evil Expansion Pack, you can also get Lost Mission as a mod for the expansion pack through MODDB. Just our good luck, right?
Nice, I'll have to go try that out sometime! Thanks for the tip =).
@@DAR-Davester2296 Anytime DAR, anytime. Oh and I would like for you see my vids if that's not too much to ask. I hope you enjoy them just as much as I do.
Awesome!
Just came across this cover.
Wow dude.. You got talent. Best cover out there. Shit if they remade doom 3 I'd ask them to put your cover in it. Better than the original in my opinion.
It's official: DAR is the king of DOOM.
0:39: watch out dude, there's a _facehugger_ crawling on the neck of your guitar! 😆
(Looks like those fingers are pretty loose/flexible!)
Also loving the video editing you're doing & good to see you rockin'!
sub counter @ 500 😉
No need for alarm! That facehugger isn't anywhere near as scary as the one in my "Between Levels" cover from Doom 2. To this day, that is probably still the most exhausting bass recording I've ever done.
Also happy to see this channel hit the 500 mark too. Next stop, 1000! ~DAR
You gave this one and even more "TOOL-ish" vibe... Fantastic job, sir!
awesome cover sir! pure beskarr!
wow way too better than the first one
you have improved so much since the first cover congrats
Oh my GOD its cool !
