    I actually think the aero bikes that allow greater adjustment will give the best performance in all areas including aero dynamics. Being stuck with cockpits that don't allow you to get into a great position, for example will limit your aero gains. The Cervelo Soloist & Propel gor example give you the opportunity to fit something like the Aerocoach bars, while the S5 is limited to 38 bars if you can get hold of a pair.

    IMO.. road bikes should be chosen based on 2 things.. how they look and how the riding experience is from take off to holding highest speed you can. All other factors weight, aerodynamics and even shifting don’t really make someone get on their bike and ride it. Fun factor outweighs everything else. The fun factor is what I listen for on the reviews. Sounds like he loved the Giant and the Trek for fun factor.

    NOT faster everywhere - up steeper hills (like the UK) - the ones with Strava segments on and the ones where you get dropped in a road race, the ~1kg weight penalty will make the bike slower! Does anyone ride at (different to max at) 50kph outside the pro ranks or outside a peloton? Unless you run 120+mm saddle/bar drop, narrow bars and average 20+mph, the comfort/weight/complexity/price compromises of the aero frame just aren't worth it. Serious, competitive fondo/tt only.

    • @Digi20
      @Digi20 Рік тому

      Most people overestimate the impact weight has. A full kg more weight means only 2watts more up a 5% gradient with 15kph (202.7W vs. 205W for 80/81kg system weight). That is something you might get back (even at that slow speed with very archievable power figure) at the climb itself, let alone flatter bits.
      In normal road riding, aero almost ever wins.
      Its different for very steep hill climb events of course, or if you only speak about that one strava uphill segment, not a whole ride.

      Weights are always measured without pedals, it's fairly standard practice. I know it might not make much sense but it's so that the real weight of the bike isn't influenced by the huge variety of pedal weights on the market

    I own an Orbea Orca Aero and if I had to do it over, I would buy any other bike on this list. Orbea is an extraordinarily poor company to deal with. They refused to resolve the abysmal actions of their dealer, ignored my calls and letter asking for their help in resolving what should have been very simple issues. They finally called when Visa hit them with a chargeback on my behalf and then tried to mislead Visa. They never followed through on fixing my bike as they said they would. At least Visa stood by me. Bottom line... any bike other than Orbea!

      What kind of issues did you have?

    • @markbraverman8267
      @markbraverman8267 Рік тому

      @velomattis-cyclingstuff7267 nothing insurmountable. Rear derailleur malfunction, which I corrected through a firmware update. LBS told me I didn't know how to use the buttons on the shift lever and that I didn't really update the firmware. Refused to update the shifter firmware for me, again insisting that 12 speed was too new to update firmware and that it didn't need to be wired temporarily for the update as the Shimano app indicated. Shimano customer service confirmed firmware update fixed my rear derailleur malfunction and that the shifter update needed to be done and needed to be wired for the update to be performed. Also, the rear derailleur was not adjusted correctly, front derailleur same. Threw the chain off due to the high-end limit not being set correctly and scratched the finish off of the crank arm in a large swath. And rear brake not centered correctly.
      Like I said, nothing catastrophic. The LBS treated me like a moron and they were wrong every step of the way. That is not directly Orbea's fault. But I paid Orbea for the bike directly ordering online from them. To ignore me and then try and weasel out of the chargeback by claiming I violated the terms of service by not going to the dealer that refused to help me after contacting them by phone and by letter??? They also promised me they would replace the crank. Said the part was local just before Christmas and would send the part "post haste" to a shop near me where they would install it at their cost. Did not happen. I have never before made felt compelled to let everyone I can reach know how bad a company is, but this seems to require it. Valuable content like this video does not provide a review of the customer experience.
      Also, they told me that to them, an $8,000 bike is not that big a deal in the grand scheme of things. Well it is to me.

    • @velomattis
      @velomattis Рік тому

      @@markbraverman8267 Wow... Hope you got everything sorted and are up and running with your bike. I have the new aero as well and have ridden it hard for almost a year now. Rides like a dream! But I've had some issues too and had the bike sent back to the factory for Orbea to fix the issues. They replaced the frame for me without hassle. But I agree, the way that they are working with the local dealers are shit. I bought the bike through their web and they could not deliver the bike to me... I had to rent a car and drive 450km to pick it up from some small dealer. When I got home and checked the bike I saw that the shop did not put it together correct. They even turned the head tube expander upside down and put the parts togheter in the wrong order... Seat post wedge was not fitting well at all and they just didn't fastened the Di2 battery in the seatpost. They just threw it down the seat tube. So if Orbea want's to do the "Canyon" thing they really have to step up the game.

    an aero frame saves about 10-15w at 40kmh cmon - its not worth it. we all know people ride em for the looks lol

    Just as you would not dream of shelling out on a stradivarius for your grade 2 level 6 year old daughter. You should stay away from these boutique bikes Arthur.

    Your "personal" recommendations? It's the same bikes every time. No Cube Litening, Wilier Filante, Factor or Focus. Paid channel and not to be trusted, just another GCN

      You really couldn't be further from the truth, this isn't a paid channel and this video wasn't paid for by the brands represented. Odd and amusing you think that just because I didn't include a few bikes you prefer? That's the great thing about personal opinions though... I'm sorry you think that way though but it's your loss

      @@davidarthur Its based on several of your latest recommendation videos where you seemingly select from a few brands and leave out others. How many videos have you featured the new Propel now? 4?

      @davidarthur  Рік тому +1

      The Propel is one of the most interesting new bikes launched that's why it's getting a lot of attention, not just here but across the cycling community. Just because I haven't included every single bike in my videos doesn't mean there's any sort of conspiracy going on

    The bike doesn't make the rider fast. The rider makes the bike fast. It's amusing to see the number of people who are out of shape but can afford to buy 6-10k carbon aero race bikes to ride around on. If you're out of shape riding around on one of those you just look like a jackass.
