  • I review the NEW Aluminum LavAzza Nespresso Compatible capsules & compare them to the old LavAzza Nespresso Compatible capsules for the Nespresso Classic Machines. I discuss whether the aluminum LavAzza Nespresso compatible pods work in all Nespresso classic machines (the original ones did not), I discuss the new packaging, I discuss the size of the new LavAzza pods, the taste difference between the new and old LavAzza Nespresso capsules, the weight difference between a package of the old LavAzza capsules and the new one, and much more. The 10 pack of new LavAzza aluminum capsules weighs 57 grams vs. the old pack weighing 50 grams. Does this mean you get more coffee in the new LavAzza aluminum capsules? I answer that question.

      Glad you found it helpful. I will be making a video comparing the illy pods soon. Thank you for the positive feedback.

    This is so interesting! After 3 years, I've replaced my Essenza Mini by Breville (because it's broken) with the one by DeLonghi (the one in this video).
    The Lavazza plastic pots are not working on the DeLonghi one, while I have never had a problem with the Breville one.
    The machine spits some water before the coffee; the pods aren't punctured fast enough.I'm wondering if this is just a DeLonghi issue at this point.
    Thank you for this video!

      That's very interesting, because I would have assumed that all Nespresso Essenza Minis would behave the same. I assume, and still do, that DeLonghi and Breville just stick their name on the Nespresso Essenza Minis, but perhaps that is not the case. I don't think it's a matter of not puncturing the LavAzza capsules fast enough. When you push the lever down, that's when the pod gets pierced. Then you press the button and eventually pressurized water gets passed through the pods. I'm not entirely sure why we get the small bit of water before the espresso comes out. Or more importantly, why it rarely happens on the second shot (I make one shot after the other each morning). Moreover, it doesn't occur with all Nespresso compatible capsules. I have a recent video reviewing illy espresso coffee and I never have the problem. If someone knows the answer I would love to hear it. I once considered that it was the size of the grinds LavAzza uses, but that doesn't explain why the second consecutive shot rarely, if ever, experiences this problem. Also, I'm not sure if you saw my review on the old LavAzza Nespresso compatible pods, but the same thing occurred. Switching to aluminum capsules didn't solve the problem. With that said, it is such a tiny amount of water, it doesn't seem to effect the taste. And the seller I highlighted in the description still sells the cheapest brand name, Nespresso classic compatible pods- those being LavAzza.

      @@efficientway Yes, I didn't explain very well what I meant:
      As you said, when you close the lever, you have the puncture, but I meant the other side of the capsule.
      When everything works fine, after pressing the coffee button, you can hear a "pop" sound (when the other side of the capsule is opened due to the water pressure), and quickly next, you see the coffee coming out.
      With the DeLonghi one, if you use the old-style capsule, this pop sound only happens after a while (one or two seconds), and the water goes out during this time.
      I've realized that the Lavazza old capsules have a more flexible cover on the side that requires water pressure to be opened. The aluminum is more rigid and easier to open.
      In my case, I've solved the problem using the aluminum capsules, but if this is a pressure issue, some machines may be working better than others.
      I think the DeLonghi machine can manage lower water pressure than the Breville one (and this may justify why this machine is cheaper), and a flexible capsule doesn't help.
      I've also opened my old Breville trying to repair it (its steam cover is plastic made and got a little hole dropping the coffee in the drip tray). I've ordered that new steam cover online, looking for a generic Essenza Mini piece, but the piece I received was not compatible.
      After a quick research, I've realized that this piece was for the DeLonghi one, so it looks like those are pretty similar but actually different. I was sure they were the same machine with just a different design, but are actually not identical inside.

      Interesting. Good luck with the repair. There's always someone who will take a free espresso machine! @@gfgiuliano

    You (the UA-cam creator) mentioned something very interesting, the old one didn't fit in some machines? Which machines it didn't fit???? (I'm very curious to know) {my machine is essenza mini and I *love* it}

      I too have the Nespresso Essenza mini and I didn't have any issues with the plastic version of the LavAzza Nespresso compatible capsules (other than the water coming out before the espresso), but others have. You can find a complete list within the Amazon reviews, but as I recall, the Pixie was one of them.

      Would love to get your initial impressions of the LavAzza Nespresso compatible aluminum capsules after you try a few shots. Which Nespresso machine are you using? Have you used the old LavAzza Nespresso pods? With the Essenza mini, on the first shot, I still get a bit of hot water coming out before the actual espresso starts to flow. The new aluminum pods should avoid the issue some users had with the old pods whereby they would fall down before they could be used. The new Aluminum capsules should at least be a proper fit for all Nespresso Classic line machines. Enjoy the espresso!
