I'm 21 years old and this is one of my favorites, so it's not just for the old folks. Granted, I did have to sing this song when our highschool did Smokey Joe's Cafe. Such a beautiful song
Seen her in concert 3 times,1st time way back in 1978,when I was a kid of 18.She was stunning then & she remains simply superbly stunningly great! She doesn't 'do' great displays, she just entertains with her magnificant vocals, dotted here & there with her deliciously witty banter.Hell,I'd turn str8 for her, lol.BRAVO,Elkie, long may you continue to bring us joy.
i love this song sooooo much i have it on my i pod when i first heard it i loved it on my i pod her voice is soooooo sctrachy! i love you Elkie Brookes!
Wow i heard this song a thew months ago.... never knew what it was till i did some asking about...im so glad i found it on here...love it ....great voice and love the lyircs...... :)
I like this song a lot. I don't think it matters what age you are, because I'm still a kid, and all the music I like is from the last century. But people get all annoying cos they say this music is for old people, and i'm not that old.
Now I know why Cat Stevens had her sing with him on his 1977 album Izitso on the awesome song:"Remember The days of The Old Schoolyard." Cat Stevens had great taste to choose her! BobbyK
great song nice to tribute to a girl name pearl who failed on her music nice tribute song if it was to me i would like the melody not lyrics but im not pearl maybe my dreams never come true too but wihout trying i dont know
That song really tells a story of tragedy after success, but the melody is entrancing. I first heard it sang by a lady in a Glasgow public house Janet Bell.. She was great...dare I say better than Elkie Brooks.
Salford's finest...with the possible exception of Mike Sweeney and the Salford Jets.. (I have to say that, he sent the lads with pick-axe handles after Kiki Dee's bodyguards on his show on Piccadilly 261 one day..) But I digress; she's still around, and him and the lads are still probably sitting drunk in the 'Peveril of the Peak' But Elkie is rather good, don't you think..?
Another troll.Well all I can say that you too must be deaf. As a singer I can tell Elkie Brooks has PERFECT pitch, maybe you don't even know what that means. I admire Elkie's vocal talents a lot of other singers do.
One of the most underrated female singers of all time! She is brilliant as she was with Vinegar Joe!!! Bless you Elkie... xxx
From South Africa - you have the voice of a Great Dane - Cannot stop listening. One of the Best Performers
Can't stop listening to her I always love this singer what a great voice
Not just a song; it's a total performance. Years after first hearing this I still love it.
Body of a goddess, voice of an ashtray rinsed out with whiskey. Awesome.
Jj
Elbows of a bolognese.
And knees of pistrami. I think.
She was great with Robert Palmer in Vinegar Joe. ua-cam.com/video/IUGMcOYqfJM/v-deo.html&ab_channel=Musikladen

One of the UK's finest female singers ever
The memories this song holds for me are absolutely amazing🥰🥰🥰
Class song, it was real music back in the 70s. Rita Coolidge The Carpenters etc. Miss them days.
Amanda Rutherford Class singer !!!!
Elkie, you make me re-think my ideas of music. You brought a new group of songs and singers to my mind. Especially Pearl's a singer in the Band.;
Everyone here needs to look up Vinegar Joe. Her previous band on co- lead vocals with Robert Palmer. Sublime and funky.
Went to many concerts, always a brilliant performance, absolutely love Elkie's music, thanks.
The way it goes from melancholic to triumphant is epic.
and this is some 40 years ago. still a great song. feel young again
Love this song, my mams name was Pearl, RIP mam, dancing in the sky now ❤

Magic voice !
Some songs, some voices just give you an involuntary lump in your throat. Nothing you can do about it really. Just happens. Happens here.
Always loved this song, the huskiness of her voice reminds me of Janis Joplin!

Now I know why Cat Stevens had her sing with him on his 1977 album Izitso on the awesome song:"Remember The days of The Old Schoolyard." Cat Stevens had great taste to choose her! BobbyK

This song is about Janis Joplin (apparently) - fits nicely.
Odličan vokal.
How am I just now discovering this?
May I recommend the book 'An Essential Guide To Music In The 1970s' by Johnny Zero. The author is a big fan of this track.
@crossLimbos totally agree, and she is dead but her songs are still reminded

@nenelitos Hello ooo what PLANET are you from. Elkie has a new album out "Powerless" and is touring the U.K.
It has nothing to do with age. You obviously have good taste and like great singers.
