Yeah, it's weird. But I must say, their time together on Christmas was absolutely precious!
Especially considering Amy was able to inspire both Gamma and Shadow to change their ways. She had a profound effect on an Eggman bot and a Sonic doppleganger. Be a neat subversion to have that totally fail with Metal
When I was little, I played Sonic CD and Sonic the Fighters that had the classic design of Amy. When I first saw her, I didn't think, "Oh, it's just a female Sonic." It was more like, "So, this is what hedgehogs look like in this game." Either way, I grew up with both the classic and modern design, and I love them both.
Its very fitting too. It's as if Amy herself grew and became more mature. When she was young she had an obssessive crush on her idol, Sonic; nowadays, she's gone on adventures with him and hung out with him. She got to know him as a person, not as a celebrity. She no longer treats him like a rockstar but a close friend, so she doesn't feel the need to fashion herself after him anymore. Girl's found the confidence to rock her own style, because she learned that Sonic is all about that. Being your coolest, best self.

i always cringe when amy is ignored, considering she was introduced before even knuckles. shes as much a part of the main cast as tails!! needless to say im VERY happy with this video, seeing how much thought and love went into her and everyone's favorite blue robot hedgehog.

Sonic CD is my second favorite game of the series... I understand it isn't for everyone, but the game has this charm and magic to it that makes it a bit more special compared to the other classic games.

Ah yes, Amy is my second favorite character and Metal Sonic is one of my favorite villains in the series, Amy had this cute and innocent design while Metal has the swag of a metal Sonic copy that no other ever did, it's cool how two favorite fan characters originated from a game that at the time it was extremely obscure, showing how SEGA wanted those two to be more important in the series, and i will say they made a success, Amy in Sa1 and Sa2 is my favorite appearances of her, and Metal Sonic in Heroes is such a badass with his Neo form that made him looks like a evil robot dictator, it's so cool how the two are the opposite, Amy is a girl that is lover of nature and other little creatures, gentle and optimistic that loves Sonic, while Metal is a robot that despises animals and nature, a threatening guy and someone who hates Sonic to the core. Awesome video as always!

Not a fan of your content. I stopped watching your videos after learning about the localization and the misconceptions of sonic. Topped with people taking the series and its cast too seriously without really understanding them and the intentions and reasons for why these things happen in sonic. Also not a your cheesy way of words, but that's just my personal take. I hope I'm not being offensive or anything.
I always thought that Amy’s manga design with the brown hair and bow seems similar to the cut character Tiara Boobowski from Sonic X-Treme.
I find it cute and amusing how you like Sonic so much that literally every game you cover is "one of your favorites". Your appreciation for this series is contagious, my friend. I always get the urge to play some Sonic after watching you content. Great video!

When I fisrt meet Amy it was in Adventure.. I was 4 or 5 years old and damn, it was love at first sight, she was the most pretties character I've seen in my life, she's just the best, my favourite character to this day

When I was smaller, I thought Amy's upwards mohawk from that piece of art was her actually hairstyle.
It seems that the Fleetway artists interpretated that as well.
CD Is actually my second favorite Classic Sonic game just after 3 & Knuckles and I'm a bit shocked that it went from one of the most beloved games in the series until 2014 to one of the most hated. Also Is it just me or is Amy's old design kinda better?
Same here! CD is my 2nd favorite only bared to 3K. I grew up with Amy’s modern design so when I think Amy it’s the first thing I think of but I do love her classic design. I think CD got a bad rap as it was still in the era were anytning sonic was considered bad by the masses, and since it was stranded on the CD it kinda garnered a hype for being the “elusive hidden gem”. Excluding the additions to Colors Ultinate I actually expect a similar reaction where people have complaints with the original design of the game causing a lower score than its OG counterpart...whether it deserves it or not

Here's a little bit of trivia: Amy's first speaking appearance was in the Sega Pico game, Sonic the Hedgehog Game World. It is unknown who voiced her. It's also one of the only few games during the classic era where she's playable along with the Sonic Drift games, Sonic R, and Sonic the Fighters.

Just stumbled upon this video, and I’m so glad I did! Very interesting and also I’m so happy to see a man (or a Sonic fan) who doesn’t hate Amy 💖✨ Amy is my favourite female character and since I grew up with the japanese versions of the games and anime I think of her as a very sweet and charismatic girl, I’m very disappointed that the English dub made her look bratty and made a lot of fans hate her to this day

I love Sonic CD. I hate it when people say the level design is bad just because of Collision Chaos and Wacky Workbench. It's like reviewing Sonic 1 and only reviewing Marble zone and Labyrinth zone.
I think the only thing that makes me have bad memories for Sonic CD are the constant times I ragequit out of the game when my character would get enough momentum to complete the time travelling sequence and then he bumps into a wall at the last few milliseconds.

Eldarin! My man! I’m so glad to see you have covered CD and these two iconic characters.
Firstly, Amy is definitely one of my favorites from the cast. I’m glad you mentioned it in your video, but she does not get the respect she deserves. From in-game writing to merchandise, she’s always left out. It feels like SEGA wants it to be a boys only club sometimes. Sometimes they just forget that Amy came before Knuckles.
Regardless, I love Amy so much! Both her classic and modern designs are so great. It’s hard to choose which I prefer, but the many designs she went through are kind of incredible. I would say she perfectly came out with her best possible design. Amy has the moxy, strength, and growth that makes her a great character, but her heart makes her special. I’m glad she’s a series regular, but I wish she was given the proper treatment. Her exclusion from Sonic Mania is absolutely inexcusable.
I like Metal Sonic, but I don’t need him in every game. When he works well for a game, it’s great! His design is perfect too! I really, really fell in love with Metal Sonic after his recent cover story from Sonic Channel. In it, we get a look at how Metal feels as Sonic’s inferior. We also see the lengths he goes to in order to beat Sonic; including literally ripping himself apart to gain an advantage. It’s such a simple, but pinpoint accurate story about this robot and proves that he is an iconic character.

I haven't played every Sonic game, far from it, but I have played a lot of SA1, and I love Amy's story in that game, I want to whack around something with her hammer again in a new game, seeing where she got her start is really cool, I knew about the Sonic Manga existing but not that Amy originated from it. As for Metal Sonic, his design is definitely one of the best designs in the series, it's really neat to see how it evolved into the Sonic CD design and eventually his modern look.

Amy and Metal have some kind of relationship. He kidnapped her once. But never tried to hurt her or anything. And people do ship them together. Since they were introduced together their birthdays are on the same day. And they're about the same age.
Sonic CD Is MY Favorite Game of all time, the story, the gimmicks, the music, the characters, the levels, and basically everything about it! It's cool to see the development of the G.O.A.T in gaming! Just to clarify, at 29:52
That likely wasn't the designer deciding between two different eyes, but instead clarification instructions for how not to draw the eye vs. how to properly draw the eye. It's most common in tv animation, but it looks to me like that design sheet in general was created as a design guide for specific details of metal sonic. I have no proof of it, but the X and checkmark are common in design guides that I've seen in the past for assorted shows and media that have to hand their character off to other artists. It's just a big quality control measure.

Metal is one of my favourite Sonic characters. His sleek design. His menacing demeanor. The fact Eggman actually made something/someone who can rival and even out match Sonic but most importantly his lack of a voice most of the time.
I think someone like Metal lives by the saying "actions speak louder than words". We always get to see how he feels through his actions and movements. Sure Neo Metal's cool, I'll never deny that fact, but I think the voice takes away apart of what makes Metal special.
One of my favourite moments of Metal came from the second annual of IDW in the Metal Virus saga. It was a short comic about Metal just walking around the labs looking at past footage until his eye catches sight of the metal virus goop. Then, he looks to footage Sonic infected. With some hesitation, he then dips his finger into the goop and watches as it slips down. Not a word is spoken (well at least from Metal, Starline hops in from a portal and kicks him out) but you feel every bit of it. Metal not only wants to beat Sonic, he wants to *be* Sonic. Eggman goes further with his creations to where they have somewhat actual emotions (ex. Gamma or Orbot and Cubot). Metal is no different. He wants to be everything Sonic is and more to the point where he'll get *infected* just to achieve that. He probably also knows what will happen if Sonic gets fully infected, that being that he'll become one of Eggman's pawns. This might have Metal thinking that if Sonic falls under Eggman's control, what's the need for a "Metal Sonic". He'll become obselete.
All this just from a short comic without a hint of dialogue from the character it's focussing on. Truly magic. Sorry for the long tangent btw. I just really wanted to gush about Metal for a bit.

Very good video! Amy is one of my favourite characters as well as the first game she appears in - Sonic CD. Amy much like Rouge was (technically) finalized from the beggining with small changes but Metal Sonic came through a few redesigns and good for him as he looks so much better today than in the concept sketches. He was supposed to be something more than just Sonic with a metal body and they nailed his design so perfectly that it mostly stayed unchanged with the modern redesigns.
Now all we need is another 3D Sonic game where Amy is a playable character once more. Mix the level design of Sonic with the acrobatic focused gameplay of Tomb Raider, and I think you will have a match made in Heaven.

I heard for Emi Motoi stepping in to Shuffle for Taeko Kawata was because Kawata was on maternity leave, which seems a very good reason to have time off. It really does seem with the Japanese cast, compared to the English one, you're here forever, but not that I'm complaining ofcourse!

An amazing collabation. As a kid, I wasn't a fan of Amy but over the years, she really grew on me as a character and I learned to appreciate her character. Also, I have a theory. Maybe Sonic 2 did came before Sonic CD if the concept art of Metal ended up being in universe if that makes sense. Like, let's say after Sonic 2 where Mecha Sonic Mk.I was defeated, he then used the timestones from little planet to get more futuristic/advance technology to make a more advanced Sonic robot that can defeat his nemesis once and for all, of course using the previous Sonic robot as a concept base for this more advanced robot. Once that plan failed, he decided to remodel the Mecha Sonic model with the knowledge he earned from making Metal Sonic though since he doesn't have access to the future technology that he had, Mecha Sonic Mk.II wouldn't be in the same level as Metal in terms of advancement however, he would have the ability to turn super temporarily when he comes in contact with the Master Emerald/Chaos Emeralds. My guess in who the robot in Sonic Adventure in one of Eggman’s bases is a potential Mecha Sonic Mk.III that really took influence from Metal’s early concepts Eggman made. That's just a bit of head canon I have when it comes to the evolution of Sonic robots.
Now thinking about it it's crazy how we haven't seen much of the Classic universe considering it's own dimension now

I think the head rockets for metal sonic were used is a sort of Mk.2 version seen in sonic the fighters, in that game there was a ship transforming rocket metal sonic which can be seen in the games opening cinematic
Metal Sonic didn't have a voice actor in the games, (except Sonic Heroes) but when I make my Hunter's Heroes movies, I will voice Metal Sonic, starting with the 7th movie, The Darker Side.
His voice will be a reuse of Omega's voice from Sonic 06.

Thoroughly enjoyed this. I'll admit I've never finished Sonic CD myself, but Amy and Metal Sonic really helped define two different sides of the game's atmosphere. Sonic being followed around by a pink girl hedgehog in a ballerina skirt with love hearts spawning from thin air around her seems so out of place in the mechanical and artificial locations of CD, but it still works so well because it's already a crazy game where Sonic has to chase UFOs and fight some Eggman's most gimmicky boss mechs in the series. The final race between Sonic and Metal Sonic is really intimidating because the dark, almost cyberpunk looking design of Stardust Speedway makes it feel like you're in Metal Sonic's domain. Also I really liked Metal Sonic's Dreamcast design from SA1 where he looks a little more spindly and the 3 metal quills are longer.

I grew up with the series since Sonic 1 on the genesis but even as much of a sonic nerd as I was never heard of or knew anyone with a Sega CD or Sega Saturn so I never heard of these characters until Adventure and was confused who they were but was able to piece things together with help from the comics. Wouldn't get the chance to play CD until sonic Gems Collection was released on the GameCube many years later along with sonic R and Sonic Fighters. I think that was similar for a lot of sonic fans in the US
That Metal Sonic MK4 design for Sonic Xtreme looks more like it got its inspiration from 1990 Bubblegum Crisis anime, such a good anime.

Consider this theory a strech, but maybe those concept arts of Amy that mirror some of Sonic's poses in the intro and ending cinematic are left overs of an idea where Amy was gonna be playable in Sonic CD.

The actual video content makes me really upset they didn't put Amy in Sonic Mania proper. They added two more dudes that are basically not-Sonic and not-Tails.
9:48 If you were wondering why there's a giant red "E", it's because of how Amy's name is spelled in Japanese. Because the A sound in Japanese makes an "Ah" sound, to make the A sound in Amy's name you have to use the E (eh) and I (ee)katakana characters, so her name is spelled エイミ (Eimi) or how you'll usually see it spelled on the JP Sonic twitter account, エミ (Emi) which doesn't sound the same but is affective nonetheless.

I’m very new to the sonic fandom, so it’s so cool to learn stuff like this. I have such a strengthened appreciation for two of my favorite characters now! Especally Metal, who might be my absolute favorite character.
I wanna play Sonic CD someday, even if I’m not all that into or very good at the style of most sonic games. It was a video about the game itself that sparked my interest in the series and pathed a path for Metal sonic to be my favorite. My hyperfixation on it didn’t start til a long time later, but the spark was there regardless.
The video I mentioned was By a youtuber known as Pastra! It’s the only sonic video on their channel (as far as I’m aware)

Sonic CD is one of my favorite Classic Sonic games, I like Amy but being more specific the new Amy, who has a new personality, is more mature, responsible, dedicated, in my opinion this version of it is better than the old one and I think many agree with me, it ended up fitting more like this, its design is well done despite being simple Metal Sonic, I love this character, he basically gave me the image of how genius Eggman is for creating a robot that can compete with Sonic and of course he's stylish, even just making beep-boop sounds in base form you can see a lot of his personality even before they gave him the Neo form
