I love these smallmouth videos; it's a virtual treat for me, as we don't have them down here in bayou country. As nice as those fish were, could you imagine hooking into the world record smallmouth, from Dale Hollow? That fish was almost 12lb. I've often said you could tie a 6 inch smallie tail to tail with a 12 inch largemouth, and that smallmouth would drag the largemouth all over the place. Greatest game fish, pound for pound, in my opinion.
Great video, John! The shifting gravel and silt from flooding is a fisherman's nemesis. Several years ago, my favorite hole on my favorite river disappeared in gravel after a torrential flood. The good news is that same flood gouged out other holes that ultimately held fish. The Lord giveth and the Lord taketh away!
I live in central Wi. I have started just driving around scouting places because of this channel. We are still getting snow and the ice is still on the lakes. Love watching this stuff. Helps get through the long winter. God bless you John.
I’m about 99% sure you worked on my hvac unit when you lived in Clarksville. I wish I had know you liked to fish, but I would only have slowed you down in your work. I enjoy your video’s, and am glad you’re making a living doing what you love...and that you know you’re blessed in doing so!
Thank you for sharing this video with us today John. You catch two big fish for creek sir. That big small mouth plus that big rock bass to they were both big for creek fishing. God bless you and your family.....🙏❤🙏❤🙏😀🙂😊
Beautiful creek! We are really lucky down here in the southeast part of the country. We have so many small creeks that most people don’t even think about fishing. It’s like our own private fishing expedition every time I go to one. Nice underwater footage too, by the way.
That’s an amazing smallie in any body of water! Beautiful! Like your comment in the beginning about how the lack of proximity made it more special. Nice looking creek.
Picture a perfect place. That one was IT! Beautiful water and surroundings. Fantastic fish. God sure does things right! Because of you John we got to share it with you.
I think I caught on to your secret, John..Whenever you cast , and then spin the reel handle and let go of it to freewheel a few more turns, you get a fish to hit! ! I noticed that in your others videos, too.... Guess I have to go public with your secret now!! :-)

Man that creek was on FIRE! I am addicted to micro fishing ATM but this makes me want to get my UL back out lol. Thank you for sharing as always! God Bless!
Thanx for taking me fishing with you for this episode. Truly enjoy your videos. I had the break-off problem with 8# and 10# fluorocarbon leader, but it stopped when I switched to 12# fluoro leader. Hook-ups increased tremendously. I fish 10# braid with 12# leader for smallmouth. I usually learn something, like I did today. Once again, your content is a Keeper. TLF
Glad to see you finall6 get back out wading. Love your Kayak adventures, but actually walking a creek looking for the spots and catching fish is what got me hooked on your videos. Yep! You should keep your locations a mystery. It takes away the fun of exploring and trying different and new techniques if everyone wants to copy you. I'm so glad that you keep that as an on going part of your message.
Perfect size creek to target smallies in. In the cold months they are super predictable and you know exactly where they will be and how to get them to bite. Low n slow,
Great video. I do recommend you use a 7ft MH fast action baitcaster ( or spinning reel if you prefer) when throwing jigs just because you have to set the hook hard. You can get away with finesse jigs on a medium rod but with 3/8 oz or 1/2 oz jigs, I strongly recommend the MH rod. And since that area has a lot of rocks, a football jig is a great option.
Man I live within an hour of some incredible smallmouth fishing but creeks like that make me want to head yer way. Keep ‘em to yourself John half the fun is discovering for yourself.
I walk a lot of streams like that, trout fishing. I strongly recommend getting yourself a walking stick. They make crossing the current much easier and safer. I tie it to my belt and let it drift when fishing. Stays out of the way.
I really like your channel and if your ever up toward northern middle Tennessee I'd really like to show you a few things about bad fishing in the creek. That's all I do during the summer for the last 25 years. I've learned some things from you but I could really show you a few things for catching the 5 to 6 pounders that are hard to make bite
Nice video. You need waders!! Your point on naming these creeks in your videos is important. You’re now reaching a large number of folks with your channel and the spots you fish couldn’t take a lot of pressure. I think the way you approach that is appropriate.
I'm seeing some of your previous videos, such as this one...and, boy, it's a beaut! You did really good on catching those Smallies in this video! Sounds like you had a bit of trouble, though.. such as at least a couple of batteries dying on you, and also having your leader snap on ya. I've got a Shakespeare setup with just Power Pro Braided Line (10 Lb. Test), and I have a swivel setup tied to the end of it. I don't use leader lines...but I could easily tie one on, and tie it to the hook-in part of the swivel, if I wanted to. Having a swivel tied to my Power Pro line opens up at least 3 possibilities for me. One is the one that I just described, and another one is just putting a hook on the swivel, with which I can use any type of bait that I want to. The third possibility is just to take a smelled hook that has some pre-tied line, and put it on the swivel, bait up that way, too, and get to fishin'! Have a great evening, Brother John, and God bless you and yours!
Killing me. What you're doing is my all time favorite way to fish. Been doing it 20 years. Doubt I'll get to go this year. I got to have a double hip replacement. May be able to hobble down on one. Lol
Very nice adventure John. Worked through the fun initial dinks as we call them, but found some dandy smallies. I've had some frustration fishing heavier jigs on medium spinning gear. You do pretty much have to go medium heavy or baitcaster for the solid hook set. Either way it's a blast and yes I keep most of my stream locations within my circle of buddies only that go with me. Some of them even remove their lures before we walk out in case we're spotted..my brother's line "do your own recon work I'm not advertising". Thanks for sharing brother
Nice smallies ! That current was brisk ! I was a little afraid that you might fall or get your feet knocked out from under you. Always be safe, we have a continual need for more videos ! LOL ! If you're down for the count, we all must suffer. LOL ! Randy B.
No need to share your special spots. You share plenty of the easily accessed and popular spots to keep people busy. Now if were fishing here in your wading shoes right now you would not know if you actually still had toes.😂 We are running high, fast, and cold with snow melt and the weather doesn’t know what season it is. I think you should try a trip down and fish with Cole of Cole and Jay. Let Cole hook you up on some of those bass he's been catching. I love watching your videos some much enjoyment and love how excited you get on any size. Keep up the great videos you do.
I was not emotionally prepared for that intro XD Just some food for thought, I agree with the having gone a little heavier. When fishing jigs it's pretty important to drive that hook through their mouth past the weedguard, especially in heavy current. If you're looking for a Medium heavy that isn't as much of a broom handle, I Love the Dobyn's Siera series.
