  • In today's video I discuss collecting or stacking 1921 through 1925 Morgan and Peace Silver Dollars. I'll show you a few of these historical American silver dollars and discuss a few pros and cons to consider before purchasing them.
I purchased the coins in today's video from Apmex. I feel that Apmex has competitive pricing on the 1922 - 1925 American Silver Peace Dollars which are the cheapest BU Silver Dollars you can collect or stack. I stopped stacking silver dollars a few years ago after filling 7 tubes, the vast majority being Morgans. They've always been my favorite coin. I think I have 145 now as several are in display-type holders. As a kid in the early 60s, I remember going to Las Vegas with my dad and silver dollars were given as regular change. Dad brought home 10, but I could only afford to have$1 of my spending money tied up like that. lol As an adult, I was given one by the dealership owner when I bought a new Corvette in 2006.

I was going to start stacking over 20 years ago when silver prices were around $5 per ounce. Should have done it!

I like these coins as well. Affordable, but can have potential to increase in price over time. I like that they are uncirculated and beautiful.

Morgan’s and Peace dollars tend to grow in value more over time than generic silver rounds or coins. Been adding these to my stack more and more recently

Love it, thank you! I started out as a coin collector, specifically Morgans. Then became more focused on weight. Diversifying into numismatists is not only smart but it also insulates your overall investment from strictly spot price movements. Great goal too!

Yeah, I grab 2 mogans from the flea market every Saturday that I work, I've only had 3 off this year, so far 😆. Most are the older versions, then the 21, though. I'm working on filling a gaurd house monster box.

I agree, over time even the common date years of the Morgan and Peace Dollar's will appreciate in value. That's mostly what I have is the 1921 Morgan and Peace Dollar's but I did pick up a few collector piece's like the CC Morgan. I think it's important to diversify even if it's the same coin but different years. $100 in face value of Morgan and Peace Dollar's is a great goal to achieve.

Thank you, Jimmy! It's a worthwhile goal and I agree. 10 years from now, 25 years from now, they will still be in demand and they aren't making them anymore...well, they are, but you know what I mean lol

The stories these coins could tell and who held these coins is enough for me to buy a couple a year, but that's it. Too expensive to stack.

Yes, I do Florida Stacker. I try to buy the common date mint state on the cheap if I can. I just bought 22 unc 1962 silver dimes at 22 face and 5 1976 40% proof ike dollars for $9 a piece. Love the design of the 1976 coinage. I wish they were minted in 90% but that will not stop me from buying them if the price is right.

I know that people look past 40% because of the weight but it is still one of the cheapest ways to buy silver

I have two different buckets and they serve two different purposes. I stack "cull or better" Morgans and Peace dollars, and they go right in with my poured silver, bars, and rounds. They are recognizable even to non stackers/collectors. Then on the other side I collect graded dollars for their future price appreciation.

When I started collecting coins, I was consitrating on pennies, nickels, barber dimes and the occasional Peace and Morgan dollars. I really was much more interested in cents and Peace dollars.
Mainly because both were cheap and in great condition. I couldn’t believe how much less Peace dollars were in comparison to Morgan dollars. So believe it or not the first album that I filled was the barber, dimes. The only dime I didn’t have was the 1894 s ( I think it was the 94 but I really don’t remember now. I sent it in to be auctioned off. Then I went on to finish my Peace dollars and I finished them with little problems. I got the highest grade in each slot and if I got a better one I would just replace it in my album. I got a bit confused when I started to notice that some of the heavier minted dollars were worth way more than the rarer dollars with much lower montages. the 1921 and the 1928s were getting cheaper than other dates as the MS scores went up. This usually happens when other dollars would go up to and above ms66. So now in order to get my Morgan and Peace dollars albums up I have to start buying higher grade coins.

In terms of gold, the $20 Saint Gaudens gold doubld eagle is my favourite classic US gold coin. However this coin is fairly common together with the $5 and $10 gold Indian head coins. I prefer the $3 US gold coronet coin. Not a lot of people have heard about this. Its rare. Ive seen few of these coins sold than other gold coins.

You know what I would really like to have. Some of the older silver dollars. Everyone seems to have Morgans and Peace silver dollars. I would like to have something very few people have like Flowing Hair silver dollars, Capped Bust silver dollars, Seated Liberty silver dollars and US trade silver dollars. You dont see these that much which is why I like these coins over Morgans and Peace silver dollars.

Cool video FS. I love the Peace $'s. As for the Queen's Beast series. I would strongly advise not to buy them. Unfortunately I started collecting the coins only to have 3 out of 5 milk spot on me. I immediately stopped collecting them. Now, the Tutor Queen's Beast series, I haven't had a milk spotting issue yet. Keep stacking!

I prefer collecting Morgans to Peace silver dollars. Its more challenging to assemble an entire set of Morgans than Peace, thats 1 reason. Several Morgan dollars are very pricy especially the Carson City minted ones. 1893S is the key date, the King of Morgan Silver dollars. Very hard to get this date. Even one in fair condition commands 1000s of dollars.

I am not so much into mint marks. I do know that coins without a mint mark are from Philadelphia, a D mint mark is Denver, a S mint mark is San Francisco, a CC is Carson City, an O is New Orleans, and a W is West Point.

My 2 favourite Peace Silver dollars are 1921 and 1928. Why? 1921 Peace Silver dollars are the Peace Silver dollars with the highest demand and the most popularity with collectors. They quickly sell out whenever they appear. There are also different variations of the 1921. The 1928 Peace Silver Dollar got the lowest mintage of the peace dollars but suprisingly the 1921 outsells the 1928. Dont ask me why.

I just picked up an 1885 Morgan Silver Dollar. Not sure how to tell it's value. I saw one on ebay for 195. I paid no where near that. What determines the value with these?

It depends on what you are shopping for. For common date Peace and Morgan dollars they are priced right around their main competition. You have to remember, they are the ONLY dealer that has over 30,000 Skus and the ONLY dealer to help collectors build out entire sets based on that inventory. If you just want to stack cheap stuff, obviously, shop someplace else. But for collectibles, they are hard to beat outside of going to coinshows or shops.
