Growing up a poor kid I couldn't get into Warhammer until the past five years (always enjoyed it from a distance with sincere longing and lore reads). Greatly appreciate this chance to jump into the worlds of Horus Heresy--but really, really appreciate this rule breakdown, thank you so much!
I recommend trying the Horus Heresy Legions card game, a cheaper way of getting into the setting. It's both in Steam and mobile and one of the few good 40K mobile games, it's also getting a sequel of sorts set in the current 40K setting.
The HH rules are basically 7th edition 40k with slight tweaks. If that was your favourite incarnation of 40k's ruleset, you'll probably love this game.
these rules look really fun! (except for maybe the vehicle stuff, but im sure that will be cool once i get into it!) and wow that morale phase looks scary!
I started playing Warhammer in 9th edition and I thought that it was cluttered but looking at this, which I have been told is very similar to 7th edition 40k, makes me appreciate 9th just a bit more
would you say its a good choice for someone who has never played the game before ive always just painted the models as display pieces or diorama parts but would like to get into the game this box set has caught my eye because of the models but im unsure if its a good starting point
There are a couple of great rules like reaction. That will be fun! I'm not sure how I feel about adding more work to shooting. They really should make this phase quicker
Can you play any other the other 40k factions with this rule set? Or is it strictly designed for Marine Legions so I can't say have some eldar fight a legion for example
Looks that way. Right now it's Loyalist vs. Traitor (those appear to be the only factions on the GW site), but I can easily see Eldar Craftworlds, Orks, and Dark Eldar hopping in for some fun in the future. Unfortunately, Tau, Necrons, and Tyranids will have to sit this one out because they weren't around for this era of Grim Dark. If you're an older edition player I could see dusting off an old codex from the same era and plopping them on the field. I personally plan to use my Cadians as stand ins for Imperial Army forces.
I’ve been trying to find out if this game uses true los or area terrain or somewhere in between. The videos I’ve seen never cover this. Does anyone know how los works in this game?
Its true los. You have to have the body of what you want to hit visible so no shots glancing off guns/base scenery and it only allows the exact models in view to be hit rather than assuming you can hit the entire squad based on seeing someones gun holster.
Well that’s disappointing. True line of sight is goofy to me also the terrain that GW sells and the terrain that hobby shops typically have isn’t built for true los. The rest of the game looks really fun so should still be a good time.
AP values reflect the ability for an attack to punch through armour completely. Low (AP1) is best, High (Ap6 (well, technically AP-)) is the worst. Imagine a Space Marine with armour save of 3+. If he gets wounded by a weapon with AP 4-6 his save is 3+. If he gets wounded by a weapon with AP 1-3 then he has no save at all. Not sure about AP against vehicles, other than AP1 gets to add +1 on the d6 roll for determining damage.
Given how long some of us have been asking for an official Horus Heresy game, I wonder how exclusive and quickly out of print Games Workshop will make this.
Archaic rules. Ok for old timers who grew up in the old school system but i doubt anyone today will have the patience of rolling tens of dice and looking up tables just to see who got shot. Doesnt make any sense to me if i have to wait a turn. Imagine if that happens in real life. Who goes first gets a chance to decimate his enemies who are waiting for their turn like blocks of wood as in 40k
What's regular 40k? For many folks HH resembles editions 3-7 out of 9 editions much more than the current 9th ed. Templates are no more complicated to work than a tape measure, reactions add a much needed 'alternating activation' mechanic, armor facings means that vehicles are not just oversized tokens.

Same man it feels great with the way things are😊
Wow. What a great video. One of the best bite sized intros I've ever seen. Tres Bon! Swift and simple, but edited perfectly. **round of applause**
That's exactly what we're going for! Quick overview of the basic rules.
Thanks!
“The shooting phase is the chunkiest phase of the game”
*laughs in world eaters getting over 60+ melee attacks in 1 phase at 1k points”
Interesting. A setting from a by gone era in 40K being fought with rules from a by gone era as well. The Age of Oldhammer has truly begun.
Best rules explanation video ever. The screen shots of the instructions really help.
The rules seem a lot like 6th/7th edition which were by far my favorite. Just might get back into the grimdark future.

Thanks for this, I would be interested in more videos covering some of the more complex rules or a basic army list building guide
Quick and thorough. Excellet video!
these rules look really fun! (except for maybe the vehicle stuff, but im sure that will be cool once i get into it!) and wow that morale phase looks scary!
It’s basically 3rd edition 40K. Which is the best rule set
More of a painter, but the lore and box does make me want to buy. This video is going to make me buy or pass. Thanks a lot for the content!

Thank you for this in-depth rules review, it’s help me decide Horus heresy is not a game system for me.
Thank you for this

This the 40K rule set I’ve wanted for so long. New 40K is a bit shit tbh.
💯

You can't see it??? No shoot for you haha
This sounds so Mutch more balanced then 9th ED 40k I hope they use the same rules for 10 ED, or add custodes ASAP XD Then i Will switch to HH 2 ED
so it's 7th with bells on?
It's more of 3rd with reactions. 9th is for rules lawyers, this looks fun.
@@ironbomb6753 haha “rules lawyers” 🤣 a polished 3rd edition is what I’ve always wanted
how does ap work that's the only thing I don't know

Love your nails.
Videos a bit quiet

Its confirmed to be permanent
there has been an official Horus heresy game what? there's been one for years, which is why this is being dubbed heresy 2.0
There has been an official game since before those box sets that GW released a few years back
HH tabletop has been around for years...see Forgeworld.
GW lost a lot of "real" SM players with primaris trash. This is so much better.
Ahh literally 7th edition rules. Can't wait to play as 8th and 9th sucked

now that the how to is all cleared up, next question is why would you ever play this garbage?
gonna pass on this game, looks even more complicated and slow to play than regular 40k
Pretty much the opposite of the truth.
actually these seem more like HH original and not the newer rules we have been seeing here lately

@@lukeeaton2364 It was the classic is the model even slightly under the template..."Well from this angle no...Well from my angle yes..."
Yeah, don't like those rules.
This audio is awful, I thought you guys were a real company and you can’t spring for a lapel mic?
Oof I forgot this group had a channel. Never freaking mind off this crap.
