I used to go to school in Arizona where it reached a high of over 110 (highest avg temp I saw was 117) in the summer so yeah I don’t think this is new. The fact that it took them until mid June to hit over avg of 100 and over was more shocking

I live in Phoenix and we hit day 19 today and it's definitely a record. Not the temperature itself but the fact that it's been so many days in a row. At the nights aren't any better because it hasn't gotten below 90 at all. It's 117 today.

    This is a little early……
When I moved to AZ. About 32-35 yrs ago, I did not have a working evaporative cooler or air conditioner. Myself and my two Great Danes live through 2 weeks where the thermometer on my back covered porch never went below 122°F or 50°C. We spent a lot of time covering ourselves in water and figuring out how to turn a fan into an evaporated cooler without getting electrocuted.
The monsoon season, when the humidity rises, combined with the heat, runs from mid June to September. Usually, when I was living there (1987-2015) temperatures may hit 110°, but it does not stay there this long. Not until August where it’ll stay at three digits consecutive days and nights.
I have seen new people to AZ. walking their dogs in the heat, not realizing that the foot pads of the dogs have been burned off, and you can see the bloody foot prints of the poor beast.
At the construction company I worked at, work hours were 04:00 to 08:00/09:00 (go home) 18:00/19:00 to 22:00/23:00.
The majority of the year if you put anything on your dashboard, the sun will melt it. I had a solar battery I wanted to recharge, I put it on my dashboard while I made my trip which will be about 25 minutes to 30 minutes. I forgot about it, a couple hours later when I returned my solar battery, head, warped, and separated, looking like it had exploded…. This was in May of this year, but I went to visit family still living there. It is not uncommon for people to carry blankets and towels to cover their steering wheels and their seats because it gets so hot. You cannot touch the steering wheel let alone sit in the seat.

🤣🤣🤣 We’ve lived in Arizona for 30 years. Three digit weather happens every year. Yes, it does feel like stepping out in an oven here: this is nothing new! What is new is all the “Heat Advisories” that are coming on my phone & radio, lol.
Also, there’s always been people who need to be rescued when they disregard the fact that our heat can & has always been harsh. You never go anywhere without extra water/ and if you go hiking you carry a camel-backpack, wear boots & a hat/ and turn around to go back before your low on water. So many people think a little bottle of water is enough, it’s not! And 110 may be uncomfortable, but it gets a lot hotter than that. I can remember 120-130 around here.
My husband used to work concrete (construction) in Mohave Valley Az, In the summers here, depending on the heat they would start their work day at midnight so they could wrap it up by 9AM. Sometimes 10pm to 6am. They also had jobs in Laughlin, Nevada. (That’s one place that routinely doesn’t report accurate temperatures, due to it possibly keeping visitors away - but once you’re in a Casino you don’t notice)

Isn't the heat caused by high pressure? Back in1990 it hit 122 in June by high pressure. The news also mentioned something about a "heat island" effect. I guess that is where there is so much material absorbing the heat, it doesn't cool down effectively at night. Not denying something is happening with our climate, just don't say the sky is falling for every issue.
