    Great video, straight to the point. I have a lot of play in my throttle controller before it gets into gear and very low idle rpm. Going to check the cables.

    Hey bud , i have a 1976 evinrude 70 hp 2 stroke , the motor runs great once warmed up ....but , once warmed up with in neatral with the warm up lever down it is too high of an idle to put in forward or reverse and if i dont get it down lower its going to tear my gear box up cuz its pretty violent that high , i had the marina install new cables also not to long ago maybe 3 months ago and im gonna try what u can recomend in my driveway today

      The throttle cable attaches to a pivot arm on the starboard side of the engine above the pivot bolt there is a screw, loosen it to lower the idle. Also make sure all the throttle plates on the carburetor are closed.

      @@Oexchange ok i will look at that , when i took the cover off i saw that when the warm up lever on the shifter was not making in go all the way back i thinkthat old grease in there is also making things stick im gonna clean it and spray some sillicone or wwd 40 in to free it a bit

    I have a question. I'm not getting even close to top RPM. I've dropped prop pitch with no luck. Can I adjust the the cable to increase RPM? They are older cables but still good. Motor is a 2020 Merc 40. I'm only getting 4200rpm at max

    Thanks! Helped a lot, I have an old Johnson and while it would go into idle while the shifter was in neutral initially, it now still thinks it’s in gear while in neutral, does this mean it needs to be tightened?

      Quite often there are adjustments in the shift shaft, its very common after the water pump is done the shift shaft needs adjustment. Was the water pump done recently or was the lower unit off?

    • @bkreativepainting7461
      @bkreativepainting7461 Рік тому

      @@Oexchange I believe the water pump was done not too long ago, as per the guy I bought it off,

      @@bkreativepainting7461 I would definitely check the shift shaft then, it most likely needs to be adjusted.

    On my black max. Im having an issue. It wont idle. I can throttle up and it runs good. But ehen i pull it back into neutrel it stalls. And spits gas out of a tube xoing back into the breather box. Or ehatever its called. I can leave fhe throttle forward and it will run.

    • @Oexchange
      @Oexchange  2 місяці тому

      The most important way to know if a motor is running correctly is if it will idle. Outboards and other engines can have many things wrong with them and they will still run at high speed but will not idle. As always start with a compression and spark test before you do any diagnostic work. If it passes those tests consider rebuilding the carburetors.

    My idle rmp 800 is constant. Between 800 and 1200 the cable will not stay were l let off it. It may go back to 800 or advance to 1200 rpms. After 1200 it stays where it's left.
    Any ideas thank you

    What about if it’s on a Yamaha

    • @Oexchange
      @Oexchange  7 місяців тому

      The Yamaha adjustment is done by the plastic piece attached to the end of the cable. You just thread it accordingly and make sure the cable has plenty of tension in neutral. Make sure there's at least 8 threads inside the plastic.
