So relieved to hear you all are okay Jim! Was really worried, hope everyone affected by the storm will get the much needed relief and help they need. Admire you very much for this 🙏
I didn't know Paul Reed Smith has this other company. That's awesome!! I don't own a PRS yet, but this info will influence future decisions. It is important to think about the other part of it. For sure.
A wild Ampharos appeared! We were lucky that when we were in Sarasota and North Tampa that the biggest storms all veered toward Texas or the Atlantic, or petered out in the Gulf such that only the roads along the coast got flooded by swells. Good to hear you're safe. Paul is still a used car salesman, in my book, but nice to hear he has a heart. Besides, my biggest beef with PRS (since I've never played one) is that some of his mega-fans are totally insufferable! 😹
You know what’s crazy to me is I agree, the people with some sort of complex about the brand are the worst part of it to me too and that’s objectively unfair against the company itself haha
So glad you guys are ok and a great idea on the fundraiser! That’s also amazing news about Paul Reed Smith and his other company. He’s a divisive character at times but he did and does seem to have a good heart. Of course he’s in business too and that means certain things, but good to hear he’s trying to make a difference. 😊 Fantastic, honest video as ever and inspired me to pick my guitar up again. Love to you and the family out there man! 😊
Between that and the appreciation he shows to sweetwater during the pandemic for making sure his employees all kept their jobs and livelihoods said a lot to me.
Glad you guys are ok, stay safe! One of my neighbors works for PRS as a lead data engineer. He works with Paul for over 20 years. I asked him about Paul and he said: Paul takes his shirt off his back and give it to you if you are in need. I live in Maryland, the PRS factory is about 15 minutes from my house, I also look at them as a job provider who feeds families around me.
Damn straight Scott. The man is also at the forefront to this day of his company when he could have easily taken the money and gone into retirement. Really wish he’d still build guitars himself on occasion but he’s someone doing good for his community.
We have gotten INCREDIBLY lucky down here in South Florida (Miami in my case), but make no mistake. A cat 4 hurricane is a catastrophe of massive proportions. We had Andrew in 92, which was 2 years before my time, but I have experienced a category 4 hurricane before, and I can tell you it's one of the scariest things you can imagine. Right as you walk outside, you see what was once your neighborhood gone and reduced to debris.
Glad you're safe. I didn't know that about Paul Reed Smith but am not surprised. I recall that, early in the Covid-19 pandemic, he and other PRS executives kept US employees on the payroll during shutdown, taking on company debt to do so. (The only PRS guitar I've owned is a 2008 PRS Mira, but it's my favorite). For the question, I do care about the practices and ethics of companies whose products I buy, and it has become more important as I've gotten older. I think of it as, is this the kind of place (and the people) I want to help stay in business? It's an easier question to answer in some industries than others.
That was another thing we talked about yesterday on the phone, Paul’s eternal gratitude for sweetwater during the pandemic that helped them to keep his employees taken care of in the most uncertain of times. I also agree about the guitar industry being one of the easier industries to go out of your way to pick what you believe is a company worth supporting as we have more than enough options available to us to have that luxury.
I almost like this more than a new piece of gear video. And yes. I love Prs for the man more than the tool. Just like I love dw drums still for John good.
I appreciate it that man, sometimes I feel like all people want to see are the newest guitar demos and if I just sit and talk it'd be considered no effort stuff. I certainly respect PRS even more than I already did after learning this
I must admit i don't give 2seconds of thought to who made my guitar as long as its good, if the specs and quality are there then im in! I can think of two brands right now just off the top of my head that i would love to support because I respect the owner and/or what the company is trying to achieve but the guitars do nothing for me so nope. Your talking to the guy with multiple Kiesels so you know how i roll😁
I had no idea PRS had another company that wasn't guitar related. Interesting. I personally don't care for PRS guitars. I believe they're great and nothing wrong with them, but they aren't my style of guitar. I do care about a companies ethos. I do care about what I want too and struggle with the back and forth for what one company stands for versus how it aligns with my ideals. I believe it's a bigger picture versus a single issue that makes enough impact for me to allow it to push me away from a company though. I also won't support a company just because they're pushing something positive or have a philanthropic aspect to their leadership. I mean it matters and is great but or their product isn't good, nah. If their product is good and they are was good company, awesome, bit of I don't care for the products they make, it won't push me towards their products. It is nice to know when companies do align with my personal beliefs though. It feels better buying their products, hands down.
At least for me, how the company treats their employees and competitors factors into my overall view of their products. It is part of the calculus, but not the primary factor, unless they are just a terrible company with no redeeming qualities. I think Gibson/Fender suing the Japanese companies to keep them out of the US market, only hurt the consumer and made them less competitive, because instead of matching the Japanese, they sued them. This does not make me not want to buy a Gibson or Fender, but it makes me more likely to look at their competitors, esp. the Japanese ones. It tarnishes their image. Can you imagine if the auto industry behaved in the same way.
The more I think about it, the less I want to support Fender taking that into considerations. Firing hundreds of American workers with no notice to save money is not cool at all man. The Japanese stuff is a bit more complicated because of exact shapes, trademarks, and so on but in general the all but banning of some companies selling guitars here in the USA like Tokai really sucks because they make better stuff than Fender OR Gibson and you're right - it would force those two to make better instruments.
@@AudiomoMusic I plan on getting a Tokai at some point. There was a comparison on the Guitaristas channel with other far more expensive guitars and the Tokai was really impressive- most of all the pickups, which to my ear had a very sweet high end sound. The neck pickup 9.23k and the bridge 14.38k - significantly higher than all the others, which might be why. Got me to thinking I might want find a set of Tokai pickups. Not sure about the single coils.

We really appreciate it man, and we can't stop thinking about those people too
Glad you're safe. I have family in FL that had some flooding and damage.
people lost their entire homes, just watching them submerged in water was something else.
That great news you're all safe. Great message and, am more than happy to donate. Will catch up soon, Robbo.
indeed, hopefully things slow down a bit here and we can find time to have a proper old school chat
Glad you guys got through this unscathed, my heart goes out to folks who were not so lucky.
The damage is devastating and is far more north and inland than I could have imagined

I feel the exact same way, maybe something in the future from them for sure.

You and me both, I didn’t want my daughter to go through a similar situation to Ian again.
Glad you and your family are ok .
thank you for that, stuff like that really does mean a lot

all the more reason I question why I keep trying with new fender guitars seem asinine when considering both of your points in that paragraph.

This absolutely awful, watched a video from dovydas and also some musicians from the Carolinas. Can’t do much but donating again.
Scott the more I learn and hear the less I think donating from afar is the answer with this. The devastation and mismanagement of this is beyond words

How many years until the next one? Two? GET OUT OF FLORIDA!
Only way I move out of Florida at this point is a one way ticket to Japan
