the Morisette was actually not "live". She sang the vocals live but then did another take. It can be more accurate to say that the clip was "dubbed". Which is why the vocals sound live but don't match the mouth movements.
@lonesomewillyhandful8897 I've been a fan for such a long time and I'm telling you, it was live. Morissette did say that she's not good at lip syncing.
ua-cam.com/video/5xdEvpb7f_Q/v-deo.htmlsi=INzjFfDhsscLB0tC This is the link to her performance in the video. It also says in the original video caption the words "live performance".
@Gisaround Have you heard the version that Sohyang did in BOTW's Open concert? It was a complete disaster. There was no retouching or tuning program that could save that performance. What I mean by this is that you are exaggerating when you say that "they screwed up with a lot of autotune." For me it is one of her best live versions, because it is clear that she is in very good vocal condition. Especially for its excellent vibrato execution. If you have a bad day and you have to sing live, there is no autotune that will save you from an incorrect vibrato action.
For the C6 Filipino clip, that's Paulette Cambronero!! She was doing Sohyangs Lean On Me!! You can hear Sohyang hitting the G#5!! Paulette is a huge Sohyang fan!!
@ignaciodiaz6177 Yes but that C6 was very heady almost a headvoice. Also, it was not live meaning in an actual performance. Most singers can do whatever they can do in a home environment, but in an actual performance, so many things can go wrong at the actual stage presence. So, video should have used performance live only, but anyway Paulette is talented for sure.
I get why you said Morissette's clip was not live but if you actually react or view the whole performance, it was indeed LIVE because of the ending part where she finished singing. I guess the setting and HD quality of her clip makes is sound like its prerecorded. I really love your reaction tho🤗

She sang it live but not in a sense "Live" since it was prerecorded so post modification did occur. But it was live enough since many performance does prerecord this days.

Filipinos for me mostly! I find their tone better and they are really technical, they also have much better enunciation and rarely use autotune and effects live. Although Koreans are good too!

i think Filipino are good singers. in this clip they sing Sohyang version of bridge over troubled water(F#5), lean on me(C6) and remake it their own. it is enjoyable.
All the Filipino video clips did not have good audio quality recording which made it just so UNFAIR compared to all the Korean good audio quality recording. Get those good audio/video quality Filipino video clips before even comparing.
They definitely have something going on cause all their tones sound very similar and i've watched clips not from those shows and people sound different and more unique
@moragev2606 Even conspiracy theories are made with certain evidence. That's not the case here. Unlike other countries, do you have any special reason why they must be obsessed with autotuning everything HEAVILY? The idea that tones are adjusted is ridiculous and could be influenced by the nationwide conservative KBS filtering. Most of it comes from excerpts of the competition program 'Immortal Song', and if the competition of high notes that appeals more to the audience is mainstream, thinner sounds will be more audible than lower tones. Just as there are many thick, dark, and powerful voices among Western women, there are more thin, bright, and feminine voices in the East. It's foolish to attribute everything to broadcasting station tuning. Korean wave is simply not a fake at all. Don't ever try to undermine it in that mean way, Pinoys. If you're really capable of catching up with them, just do it for yourselves.

I don't like Sohyang's either because she is struggling with enunciation and kinda more nasal. Most of the Koreans are with autotune and vocal effects.
C5 - Filipino (Because it's thicker and resonant) C#5 - Filipino (at this note, i prefer chestier belt) D5 - Filipino (Longer straight tone and no autotune. The Korean one is obviously autotuned) Eb5 - Korean (For the tone) E5 - Korean (because it's live) F5 - Korean (WTF why did they choose that clip for the F5) F#5 - Filipino (coz it's live live and I have suspicion of autotuning in the Korean clip) G5 - none (one is live live, and the other is postproduced, can't decide) G#5 - Korean (Katrina's G5 is piercing but screechy; I would love to see the raw video of the Korean clip tho) A5 - none (both pushed, both looking up. the korean clip is heavily postproduced) Bb5 - Filipino (raw) B5 - Filipino (Live, live and smooth, long legato) C6 - Filipino (coz it's raw)
Yup. 1st of all, So hyang's clip isn't a raw footage, and yet her B5 is just as clear as the Filipino girl. Second, So hyang's phrase is shorter; the Filipino girl's phrasing starts from lower belt upward and then back. That's a sign of great flexibility. Third, So hyang is leaning her head backward when heating that note. That causes strain in the neck. It's funny because the reactor did not vote for Jona at A5 note because she's stretching her neck, but when sohyang does it, she's amazing. LOL
Singing isn't all about the prettiest high notes. I like her G#5-B5 tone in a Gospel arrangement of her performances, and I like her soft, light tone. However, her midbelt is so-so. Lower register lacks body. Her diction, her posture, and even her facial expressions while hitting that B5 won't turn heads in musical theater. So, her being the prettiest is arguable.
Katrina's screechy? You do realize that that kind of sound is also a technique? I think she's really trying to do a chesty not or with a grit in the sound to match it to what Tori Kelly was trying in that note.
