    Hey, all, heads up; the actual ‘reaction’ starts at 12:23 for those of you that may want to skip the drum/Pau talk beforehand.
    Also, I’m trying a new micing technique, based on your suggestions. Could you give me a favor, listen and comment in the comment section as to whether it sounds better than previous blogs? And before anyone says anything, YES I KNOW THAT THE SOUND OF THE FAN IS STILL PROMINENT. There is not much I can do as the heat from the room is hooooot-and the Dennis needed.
    THANKS!

      Thank you for pointing out the Alice in Chains connection. I've noticed Dany singing on top of an accompanying guitar line (think "More" in the chorus) which is a staple of the AiC sound (Rooster, Man in the Box, Angry Chair). And to your point, Sean Kinney played heavily on toms which Pau does quite often. I think you're the only reactor I've seen make this connection.

    One of the greatest things she does is to listen to her younger sister. She is humble in this aspect. Ale is James Hetfield with timing. She is a human metronome. If you watch Pau closely you'll see her looking at Ale for cues. If Ale leans back, it means slow down. If she leans forward, it means speed up.
    David Bendeth taught them this pocket, and he adores Pau as someone who could be an amazing producer, and fears her a little bit for her honesty (out of love). Let's also not forget that Dany can fill vocal spots for her when she's not feeling well. And Pau and Ale can do the same for Dany. It's an amazing mix of get the job done and not suck. Just a reminder of when they play, Ale is the gatekeeper. Is Pau an incredible drummer? Oh, hell yes. Part of that is knowing she doesn't see herself that way when they play. She's a part of a family that makes amazing music.

      I saw a clip of the video when Pau did the MasterClass Talk. She told the story of David Bendeth giving them some machine that would sound an alarm if they got out of time and it kept going off on Pau and she said I kept getting that Ale stare each time it did.

      I never could have imagined I'd agree with this, but Hetfield with timing sounds about right.

    A lot of Pau's improved timing can be attributed directly to working with David Bendeth. He taught all of them about how to play with "soul", and let the flow of the music dictate the timing. He even had her play with an alternated click so she learned to "disconnect" from it when the song required it. If you watch "Mayday in the Making", you can see how their initial meetings were sort of full of conflict, but by the end of their time with him all three of them were absolutely in love with this grizzled old musical master. He taught them a _lot_ about how to play music, and they've all taken his lessons to heart - and it shows, most definitely.

    She has really changed her technique over the years. If you watch the TED videos from 7 years ago she's all arms and no wrists. It's amazing what she could do playing that way, but it looked exhausting. Her physical movements are so much smoother now with the "right" technique.

    • @glengamble-thegambleramble6275
      @glengamble-thegambleramble6275  День тому +8

      I hundred percent agree. I went back and watched some of the videos of her as a child and it was amazing that she could hit that hard, but it was all forearm and no ‘swinging’. Give credit to her teacher, he taught her tremendous technique and physicality. Also credit to her for practising her ass off.

    • @MrJest2
      @MrJest2 День тому +3

      I pretty much think that was a "left-over" from when she was kind of too physically small to smack the drums and get the right sound. Once she grew older, and had some instruction in how to be more efficient in her movements, she embraced it and excelled in it as she does in most things she tries.

    Pau's co-production of the video for Que Mas Quieres may be a big contribtor to The Warning's recent Latin Grammy Award nomination for best rock song. The song is awesome, with all three sisters totally bringing it. We're still waiting for the US version of the Grammy Award nominations to come out, next month. There's a lot of industry buzz about The Warning, so I'm holding my breath (and turning blue).

    Hi Archie ! One thing you barely touch in your vid is Pau's amazingly healthy technique. Always relaxed, almost no tension in the back and always moving smoothly. As a working musician in various cover bands, I lost 2 drummers due to back pain, including one who had to be operated on and who lost part of the sensation in his legs. Keeping your back straight but without tension is massively important. Great vid, mate ! (BTW, I miss Helix... 😉).

      Thanks for the reply! But I do actually touch on it, I just didn’t use the word ‘technique’; if you look how I’m talking about how she has the proper movement of wrists and limbs, etc., that is tied to technique, right? Perhaps I just phrased it in an obtuse way lol

And then you say the 're-al' part from the hair colour brand L'Oreal. Add the two together now, and that gives you VIA re-al. That's how to say it. Ok?

      Agree. The close reflections of your voice from the surfaces around you arrive at your mic slightly out of time, making mush. For example, if you put the gold record higher up and put some absorption there instead, it might help. Just look around you at eye level and imagine where the reflection goes. Also, the closer to your mouth you put the mic, the greater the ratio of your voice level to the background noise level. Louder voice, turn the mic down, the background level goes down, too.
