I know Thanksgiving's a little confusing, so I'll try to break it down for you. It's the day we celebrate the freeing of the United States from the reign of terror of Lord Gobble, a 50-foot tall turkey/Sasquatch hybrid who demanded human sacrifices every November. In 1863, Abraham Lincoln rode his eagle- gryphon into battle, singlehandedly slaying Lord Gobble and freeing us from our blood oath to our fearsome tyrant. In celebration of this momentous victory, we consume the corpses of his descendants and parade our largest and most influential cartoon characters through the streets of New York as a display of power, so that history will not repeat itself. Hope that clears things up.
I'm a professional arborist and I use a silky Zubat daily.Silky makes the best hand saws you can buy,in my humble opinion. The Silax is a great blade as well.
Happy Holidays KnifeCenter! I've recently begun adding to my knife collection I started as a kid (largely in part due to these videos), but I seem to have a problem. I don't really have a need for knives. What are some things I can start doing to make use of my recent purchases?
Santa should carry a 940 for cleaning hooves, as Osborne was a rancher and the back of the reverse tanto was intended for cleaning hooves out, as far as the stories I've heard anyways.
I love the finger choil on the Mini Praxis, it's one reason I often choose it for my small blade EDC. Really allows for a good grip and helps get a lot more leverage out of that little thing.
When selecting a hunting blade I recommend a plastic or kydex sheath. Much much easier to clean out than leather or nylon webbing style. Leather & nylon webbing will absorb blood etc and begin to smell. Like the knives here - go for orange to make the blade easier to find if dropped. I like the Kansbol but if you don't know how to maintain a scandi grind the Revo might be better as you can use a pull through sharpener with it. (I know pull through sharpeners can be the devil's work but they do allow for rapid sharpening if your blade goes dull while processing an animal.) Sharp blades all.
Check out Smith's DCS4 ... it's a double diamond that stows in the handle, I've had two & use them almost exclusively for all sharpening that doesn't need the belt sander. Great for light touch ups/alignment but can also hog a bit of steel if you need it to. Highly recommend & only like $20.

Happy holidays to the knife center crew. I am a US Merchant Marine Navigational Officer, who still uses a pen daily. I’d like to get a nice pen, preferably corrosion resistant, for all my logbook needs. I carry the pilot G-6 07mm, because I love how smoothly it writes, but I’m open to other types of pen refills as long as they are a smooth writer too. No price limit. Thanks! P.S. for a work knife I carry the spyderco tusk, it’s a shame they discontinued that model.

I have always suggested that new knife containers should start small and not go high end off the bat. This allows you to figure out what you like and don't like. Grind. Handle material. Blade shape. Blade style, etc. For the price of a expensive knife, you can buy multiple knives and enjoy! When you feel it's ready to pull the trigger on a knife that's hefty in price, you can then weigh in on if you might like it or not. ❤️

DCA, Years ago, I fell in love with the OKC Rat 1. It is my only folding pocket knife, and has traveled with me everywhere. It has spent many days out in the woods with me. I use it so much the texture on the scales have worn smooth. I really like the shape and feel in my hand. But I think its time to add a new member to the family. What would you recommend? I would like to stay under 100 if at all possible, and not opposed to trying a different locking mechanism.
The answer to knife sharpening I realized on the boat with Fillet Knives. Walmart, in the fishing department sells plastic sheathed ultra sharp 7" fillet knives for around 2 bucks each. I just recently purchased a Condor Woodbuster. It’s amazing and I like it a lot. It is a slightly larger than average blade in both length and thickness. As always I hope you and the knife center family are doing well. Long live the reverse tanto! Lol
Howdy, David! Many thanks to YOU and the KC crew this season. Question - What is your recommendation for a wine/cheese and picnic knife? I find some blades are good for slicing, some for dicing, some for spreading. But is there a knife that handles bread, cheese, fruit, sausage, and spreads equally well? Bonus points for bottle opener or corkscrew. Be well. Bob Fitz -
Fountain pens are great! I'm so old that in grade school that is what we wrote with. We all had Fountain pens and carried a bottle of ink to refill the pen with. We wrote on "Big Chief" tablets that had yellow paper.
I am so old that I saw very MANY advertisements on TV for the great new thing: "ballpoint" pens. I asked my mother what's going on. What did we use before? She explained fountain pens. IMMEDIATELY, I rode my bike to a stationary store and bought fountain pens with my lawn mowing money. Then, I took them to school. Of course, the teachers didn't think anything was odd about using a fountain pen in school.
With the pen question as a truck driver I use a pen every day, if you carry a pen that doesn't look tactical no body will say anything, I have carried one to shows that are in no weapon venue's with no problem.
Hi, been watching for a couple years now. My question is, can you review the Gerber wood craft hatchet? I'm not sure if you have review it yet. All the big box outdoor stores seem to have only the longer handle one and not the shorter handle in stock. A comparison to other brands or models would be nice too. I will use it on camping, hunting fishing and snow-cat assigbments. Thank you.
A saw for cutting down trees? My grandpa used a classic Mora with the red wood handle and an old pipe to cut down a christmas tree. I as a kid just stared. We got it up on the roof rack, and it was given to my parents. Have the Mora today in my car, 50 years later.
Those straight razors look fabulous. Anybody thinking of adjusting their shaving habits from disposable style systems I personally can recommend the craft, it's wonderful to spend a bit of extra time looking after myself rather than just rushing through the shaving experience. These razors and double edge blades make you slow down and pay attention, every man should know the shape of his own face and the method by which he can cut back his trim.
Hey DCA! I was hoping that you could give some advice or career paths for those of us looking to get into the knife industry. I have a degree in journalism and have been having a hard time finding related jobs in the industry. I just figured that since 90% of my screen time is already knife related that I could at least look into a pathway for a career. Thank you for doing this series.
Hey, DCA! I'd like to get myself a ESEE JG5. As a nessmuk fan yourself, I'm sure you can appreciate the appeal. The problem is, I'm left handed and I've promised myself that I won't buy any more right-handed knives. While a fixed blade isn't either left or right-handed, the sheath that comes with the JG5 IS right-handed. Any suggestions for a left-handed sheath that will fit the JG5? I'm not opposed to scout carry or cross-draw sheaths, just right-handed sheaths. Help me keep my promise to myself!
As far as price point goes, what would you consider to be the “Point of Diminishing Returns” for folders, and for fixed blades? What knife models best represent this point in your opinion?
For a folder I would say it's around $120 to $150 you can get many spyderco knives, benchmades or houge for that range. To me a native 5 or a bugout can be had for around this price and you get a great functioning tool without much "unnecessary excess". For fixed blades I would actually say it's more like 70 or 80. You can get a buck 119 or a cold steel srk that would be perfectly adequate for most things. Lionsteel offers many outdoor fixed blades and a great value for premium materials. As far as kitchen fixed blades, Victorinox is king of value.
@@c62west -- Great question, but it's higher here in Europe. If you're wanting a Spyderco or Benchmade that doesn't have plastic handles, you're talking more like 200 euros. That's about the cost of an Osbourne or a Paramilitary 2 in G10. Para 2 in blue G10 with S110v is £210. Hogue EX3 is £213. Also: diminishing returns doesn't mean 'how cheap can you buy a knife for that'll meet your needs'. You can buy an Opinel or a Mora for £10 that'll do what you need. What the question is about is what's the point at which you have to spend a lot more money to get a tiny increase in quality. That's the question that's interesting IMO.
@@jb7707 I mostly strongly agree with your points, and have used a 119 extensively. I would extend your argument to an Aus8 Rat-1 or 2, as it's very similar to 420 h.c. ... (Yes even with Paulies magical warmin' & a coolin'.) ...which can be had under $30 & is a really efficient, durable, easy to clean, tough enough versatile slicer. Also Dexter Russell is a good kitchen option.
Question: Since PA has an upcoming law change allowing us to carry OTFs I'm in the market. Looking for a full size tough OTF with a bayonet or dagger style blade. Any suggestions? FYI I've looked at the Hogue and Microtech knives but wasn't sure what else is out there. Trying to stay around $300 give or take.
What do you recommend for a classy Italian stietto inspired option? I really love the looks of the slender Al Mar knifes blade shape, and already own several of their knifes, anything else that is similar you would recommend?
I am by no means new to knives and there jargon but is there a difference in edge holding versus edge retention..I'm looking for a knife you sharpen once and strop back to get it razor sharp when it becomes working sharp/dull as in after every heavy use . Primarily for game processing. 3.5" blade under $100
A lot of hunters are moving to smaller knives. I pretty much only use my Esee Izula in S35V. I rarely see anyone busting out a big fixed blade or for that matter guthooks. I think a lot of hunters are realizing just how much you can get done and how accurate and controlled you are with a 3 inch or so fixed blade or havalon.
Hi DCA, love your videos and the knowledge you share with us. However, I'm not sure about your advice on the Kansbol: As far as I know Mora puts a 20 degree per side secondary bevel on all their knives. They say that's better for general purpose. So if you don't remove that secondary bevel to put a true Scandi on the knife for woodwork, you can sharpen the Kansbol like any other knife. (Mine at least seems to keep a razor sharp edge with regular stropping.)Or am I mistaken? Best from Germany, Mo
One can sharpen one of their Scandi edges at a "conventional" angle, because the Scandi angle is more like 12 degrees per side (even though Mora technically puts a super slight hollow grind on their Scandi to make the first sharpen easier). The downside of this, is the thickness of the rest of the Scandi behind the edge will make it less efficient than a hollow or high flat grind. -DCA
@@knifecenter Interesting! Will keep an eye on the possibility of my Moras getting too thick behind the edge! If you're not tired of me yet: Why doesn't Mora put a true Scandi on their knives right away? The steels they use are though enough for that. The 12-degree-Scandi-slight-hollow-grind with a secondary bevel seems unnecessarily laborious (if not counterproductive) to me now. Thank you so much for answering my first question! Best, Mo
Any recommendations on an edc knife for whittling? Parameters are; single blade, stainless, pocket clip, and under $150. Bonus points for a finger friendly locking mechanism(i.e. axis, compression, button, etc.) I currently use an Opinel #6, which is great, but not very carry friendly. Please and Thank You
Hello DCA, this is my first posted question. I have been looking for a US made scout style pocket knife with modern materials. I have my original Camillus cub scout knife but it would break my heart if I broke or lost it while carrying it. I'd like it to include the classic tool set up with a cap lifter/ flat head sd, main drop point blade, can opener, and awl. A Phillips SD would be awesome too. Ive tried to like the Leatherman swiss army alternative, but I can't stand the Philips head on it, it is just too narrow and strips the screws. Swiss army gives you a real Philips, but it isn't US made. WR case used to make a scout knife, but they discontinued it for some reason. The old all metal, "US" stamped military pocket knives by Camillus are awesome, but the materials are lacking. Any ideas? Thanks and keep up the good work.
Hi DCA! In a survival situation when we have nothing but a folding knife and the pivot screw has become very loose. What's the best way to tighten the pivot screw (in nature without other tools)?
My wife loves knives. She wants her own camp knife for processing firewood. It doesn't need to be a multitasking knife, she has her preferred food prep knives. What is a good lightweight knife with adequate length for batoning, a ferro rod spine and confidence inspiring control for debarking and feather sticks? Budget and mid-price options please.
Hey DCA! I have an edc knife that works great for most things. However, most of my cutting tasks require cutting only shrink wrap. Any ideas for an edc blade to pair with my main edc (which is a Spartan Astor) that would be even better for only cutting shrink wrap? Im guessing some form of hook blade would be best, but i will let your expertise speak for itself.
Hi team ! How do automatics do in "dirty" environment ? It's missing from my collection but i'm worried the dirt and sawdust that somehow always end up in my pockets will deteriorate the mecanism. In the same line, is it possible to replace bearings with washers ? Thank you very much the content that miraculously remains interesting after all those episodes !
As always thanks David and Thomas for your review, and wish you both a happy thanksgiving weekend. Re the straight razors; few years back I started to use one (and also collect a few). Didn’t last too long as I kept cutting myself🙄, definitely an art to using correctly. I really like Solingen products, have a switch blade and even nail clippers that I purchased from them. Interesting thing was I also at some point in time bought the Dovo straight razor, but what I found was out of the box the razor was not actually sharp enough to shave, in comparison to an old 1930s vintage (British) razor I’d been using which was DEADLY sharp. I tried to strop the Dovo, but that’s an art within itself. And have to say (from my limited knowledge) that I agree with comments from the barber, Japanese shaving/blade products are excellent…..Feather blades all the way😊. Actually maybe Thomas might do live review of straight razors shaving his beard . What do ya reckon Thomas?😂
Hey DCA, for Christmas my Mom wants a serrated kitchen knife and a general use kitchen knife. She doesn't do complex fancy cutting (her words), and she's not great at sharpening. Any recommendations under $100?
Hi Guys. First off, thank you for all your knife video's. I love watching them, learning and being generally entertained. Much better than prime time TV ;) I'm a knife enthusiast with a small collection ranging from quite a few Extrema Ratio knives to swiss army knives. I just love those pioneers. Lately I started to like knives with folded handles. They're really strong, robust and mostly have flat profiles, great for city carry. My Question: What is that construction called officially? I find it hard to search for knives not knowing what that build style is called. Do you have a/some recommendations maybe? I own: a Coldsteel Pocket Bushman, 3 sizes Higonokami folders, a Boker Atlas Black, a Mercator Black cat knife(K55K) and 2 Mercator variants made by the new K55K owner Otter and of course the French Douk-Douk is represented. I'd like to expand with more new makes and models. Anything you (or anyone else reading my comment) could recommend would be awesone.
Good evening DCA, I need an axe to prep and chop firewood for an upcoming backpacking trip so I'm looking for something on the lighter side and easily attachable to the side of my pack, budget is ~$100
im 53 going on 54, iv been straight razoring my face since my late 20s. i love it. but? it took my face a minute to get used to a straight razor. of course it takes longer because there is more prep. P.S. i have 4 different razors and i always go back to my grandfather German straight razor form the 40s that my grandparents sent him in the war
Hi DCA, I have one question: I really like a “Banneret” knife by CIVIVI, but would like to see it in more premium materials. Do you have any plans to have KC exclusive model of this knife in premium materials or, maybe you can recommend some other knife made in premium materials but in same style as Banneret?
Hello DCA, my name is Vladi and I'm a huge fan all the way from Israel. Our knife carry laws are very similar to the UK, my question is if you can recommend a good non locking budget knife (preferably under 50$ and a tanto blade). Can you make a new video for best budget knives.
Why choose the Sencut over the Mini Praxis, well if you are left-handed the Sencut is your friend. If you have a larger hand the Sencut is preferable. If you want to attach a lanyard, again the Sencut. Button lock vs Liner lock your choice.
Hey DCA and Thomas! It was my birthday last weekend and I am trying to find a good bushcraft group of tools for outdoors. I’m looking for a great bushcraft knife under the 200$ mark, a folding saw, and a field strop for upkeep. Any input you have would be great! Thanks much and keep up the great work!
@@Alexander210 thanks amigo! I do enjoy that one, but am looking for something a bit “nicer”. The finishing on those is pretty rough and was hoping to find something to last a lifetime 👌

I've enjoyed how you handle multiple styles of knives and have learned some things too. As an accomplished str8 razor user, collector and restorer I found myself kinda cringing and saying 'be careful' a lot has you demoed the razors.. 😕. heh!
DCA! Seth! I have two nephews (12 and 15) who I think are ready to be exposed to our terrible and expensive hobby. I appreciated your video from 2020 covering "Best First Knives," but I'm wondering if you have anything to recommend as perhaps a more advanced "Cool Uncle" knife for older kids - i.e. something quality and longlasting, but also fun and fidgety. Happy spending season! -Beef
Hey fellow knife lovers! Looking for a new knife, I want a flipper tab but no spring, its harder for me to close one handed. I prefer washers over ball bearings in the pivot and I like the liner locks for one handed closing. I prefer bigger knives as well. Anyone got any ideas for my very specific tastes?
Hey guys my question I’m getting in to sharping and I have few knifes that are getting dull so I’m wanting to know what y’all would recommend wanting to stay under $250 thanks guys
Hey so my buddy just got new job but they limit blade size to 2.5”. So he tried out my spyderco ambitious. Like yourself He has slightly larger than avg hands. So are there any folders with larger handle than ambitious but blade under 2.5 inches
Hey, i'm from Germany and have a little bit of a problem. It is not allowed to carry a knife that is possible to open with one hand and locks. So is there a knife without an opening "help" like thumbstuds, hole etc. that locks. I know there are backlocks, but I would like to have something I can Close with one hand.
I am looking for a one-and-done US-made outdoor fixed blade. Something big- possibly enormous, but not necessarily.. I just want a badass knife that will get me through anything, and I'm thinking US-made, possibly custom.. $4-500 range, maybe more if it's truly "the one".
Is there a single hand-held sharpener for multiple steel types that is idiot proof? I suck at sharpening, apparently. Not really interested in machines with multiple belts, etc.
So true. When I got into straight shaving, I knew skimping on strop and stone would be a bad idea. So glad I came to that conclusion - the other thing to not be frugal with is the soap or cream (I prefer cream), as lower-end product just doesn't get a decent lather.
I'm looking to give a a gift to a good friend who is getting married and was thinking about a gentlemans knife. However, he works around Washington DC and i'm not very familair with blade restrictions. Is there a good safe option?
What if Knife makers back in WW2 could choose a knife steel today, what would be their choice? Two parts. Infantry soldiers, and let's say a Field Marshal for the high end choice.
Hey David, I'm looking for a gentleman's/executive folder. I'd like titanium or steel scales, and under $130 would be nice. I'm a lefty so an ambidextrous pocket clip would be appreciated. P.S. I'll be sure to notify you and Thomas if/when I open a restaurant near Virginia :)
Hey guys, hoping yall could recommend me a modern slipjoint knife. I love jackwolf knives designs, and the metal bolsters they use. Just too pricy. Anything sub $150 yall would recommend?
Sorry to disagree, DCA. The front finger choil is part of the Praxis design and what makes it such a great knife for me. Had it been omitted from the mini, it would have been a miss.

I use kaweco aluminium and brass especial pens and pencils, absolutely wonderful. I use Faber-Castell Ondoro fountain pens.
DCA I only write with Fountain Pens. I love them and make myself writing in a journal daily.
In honor of Thanksgiving, you seemed to have brought out the pumpkin spice flavored knives. Well done.
DCA for the record I am having no luck with this conundrum; what is the proper knife to have in the pocket of your pj's or bathrobe? Thanks dude!
I added a Civivi T Clip to my Silax sheath set at a 45-degree cross-draw, but I had to add an eyelet to the sheath to fit 2 attachment screws.
Good question.

I mostly strongly agree with your points, and have used a 119 extensively.
@@adamjames1375 I agree on all your points. Rat 1, civivi praxis and buck 110 Lt are just a few great
Question: Since PA has an upcoming law change allowing us to carry OTFs I'm in the market. Looking for a full size tough OTF with a bayonet or dagger style blade. Any suggestions?
FYI
I've looked at the Hogue and Microtech knives but wasn't sure what else is out there.
Best, Mo
HEY DCA, Can you do a video on Best Pocket organizers/micro edc pouches. Thanks 👍
Question: what, would you recommend as balisong for hard work?
I love my 511 tac pen I use it everyday at work it's well built so it's solid if I drop it in the wearhouse
Can you recommend a first EDC for the ladies for Christmas? Thanks
Hey DCA, any suggestions for a budget friendly fidgety knife (around 50 dollars or so) Thanks 😊
Good evening DCA, I need an axe to prep and chop firewood for an upcoming backpacking trip so I'm looking for something on the lighter side and easily attachable to the side of my pack, budget is ~$100
Another possible EDC chef's knife could be the Spyderco Bow River.
im 53 going on 54, iv been straight razoring my face since my late 20s. i love it. but? it took my face a minute to get used to a straight razor. of course it takes longer because there is more prep. P.S. i have 4 different razors and i always go back to my grandfather German straight razor form the 40s that my grandparents sent him in the war
Heya DCA!
Do a Beat The Icon with the Cold Steel American Lawman or with the Ontario Rat 1

Thanks David!
I personally like the Condor Terrasaur. About $40 or so and it does an amazing job. Just wanted to give you a budget bushcraft knife option first. 👍
@@Alexander210 thanks amigo! I do enjoy that one, but am looking for something a bit “nicer”. The finishing on those is pretty rough and was hoping to find something to last a lifetime 👌
@@chrischips1732 Man, then the door is open. Reiff knives make some good stuff and you can't go wrong w Bark river. Fallkiven is also quintessential in the bushcraft world, too.

Hey DCA, I’m looking to get a folding knife with a downward canted blade. Do you have any recommendations for such blades that are under $80?
What is a good clip for the cold steel kyoto 2
I've enjoyed how you handle multiple styles of knives and have learned some things too. As an accomplished str8 razor user, collector and restorer I found myself kinda cringing and saying 'be careful' a lot has you demoed the razors.. 😕. heh!
I use safety razor and Henson handle
What budget knife runs on washers, has decent action and would be good for medium duty work.

@@knifecenter Thank you
Lovely knives love the show do you have any stores in Cape Town South Africa?
DCA!

PS - The kids live in Minnesota, so no autos!
What knife would you like to see as a button lock for me it would be the manix
What is the best way to safely display your collection
Hey fellow knife lovers! Looking for a new knife, I want a flipper tab but no spring, its harder for me to close one handed. I prefer washers over ball bearings in the pivot and I like the liner locks for one handed closing. I prefer bigger knives as well. Anyone got any ideas for my very specific tastes?
Love scandi grind. I wish more folders had skandis
I hear you. I rock a good old Cold Steel Finn Wolf for that exact reason. Great camp utility and wood processing blade. Have a great day.
@@realbroggo Yea the Finn Wolf is a sweet knife. There is also a knife that I believe Tops Knives makes that is a folding scandi ground knife.
Hey guys my question I’m getting in to sharping and I have few knifes that are getting dull so I’m wanting to know what y’all would recommend wanting to stay under $250 thanks guys
Hey DCA and da other boiz What knife would you recommend for protection from the Christmas shoping
Cold steel Espada XL
For the hunting knife… go just over the $100 mark and get a white River backpacker
What are the est knife to peel apples ??
Always some good shit . 👍🏻
Love these videos so much!!!!
If you're going to buy a straight razor, don't forget that you'll need stones and strops as well. You won't get away with it on a budget.
How are those bear paws just slightly larger then average??
What if Knife makers back in WW2 could choose a knife steel today, what would be their choice? Two parts. Infantry soldiers, and let's say a Field Marshal for the high end choice.
They want cheap tough and economical, probably something either 10-series or 420 H.C.
Hey David,
I'm looking for a gentleman's/executive folder. I'd like titanium or steel scales, and under $130 would be nice. I'm a lefty so an ambidextrous pocket clip would be appreciated.
P.S. I'll be sure to notify you and Thomas if/when I open a restaurant near Virginia :)
Waw. Cool stuff 🧐
I honestly didn’t know what a Senecut was…thought it was the new Sebenza Magnacut
Praxis is a great choice , civivi , sencut no need to spend more .
You don't sell havalon ?
