Ok I have watched a lot of build guild videos, this one by far is very informative, detail and importantly easy to understand especially for new players (like myself) to POE2. Thank you so much for a great video please keep them coming.
For those wanting an easier start on monk, one of the best suggestions I've seen in guides is to grab a bow right away and just use lightning arrow until you can pick up storm wave/charged staff/tempest flurry. you can switch back to staff right at tempest flurry, but I'm gonna try switching after I get storm wave and charged staff. I'll probably roll a new monk this weekend to try it out.

I was excited at first seen you use other skills but then it became just the same meta as all the others. But at 11:53 you have an oversight, you say you have 3 support gems but that is impossible at that stage of the first leveling and also on Herald of Thunder if you add support gems it will increase the cost to more than 30 spirit, unless you are super lucky and managed to get a spirit armor or bought one, you will not be able to afford it with the 30 spirit from Act 1. But yeah this build is basically the meta to carry monk over to maps, although I find it boring until you get Flicker for more mobility and fun
Indeed this build became the meta very quickly after the cold build for leveling - I was indeed super lucky with crafting a really good Chest piece for more spirit and completing all side bosses
Thanks for the guide, i think im level 10 and its really slow and boring to play monk at the moment, i will follow your build and hopefully it will be much better👍
Appreciate your comment, early levels its a struggle with the monk and a bit slow. Thats why I was using abilities such as Vaulting impact and the curse to make it more versatile and fun - Once you get Tempest Flurry it all changes :)
@@AWY-LO in my opinion tempest flurry is about faster from the beginning, in order for ice strike to work correctly you need to have combat frenzy and resonance! If you can get those two then both builds are equally strong for leveling with ice strike build surpassing it the higher the level is
I use nearly exactly the same build and i am on the normal act 3. I am getting oneshot by nearly everything. I was not focusing on evasion but i have a mix of armour and evasion. Is that the reason ? i am new to POE.
You can never have enough Evasion as a monk, you want as much as possible. Try replacing armor for Energy Shield, it saved me alot of times. Another thing that might help is making sure you gear is updated to the current content or close to it, especially your Quarterstaff
hey mate, how is your charged staff ability sending otu so man ywaves...im using mine and its liek 1 slow one at a time, how are monks spamming lots of charges, flipping ur staff around constantly...i dont get it
When you use Charged Staff it simply empowers your Tempest Flurry. With Martial Tempo gem on Tempest flurry you get extra atk speed. The more attack speed we have the more hits it will produce, plus using charged staff with 3 power charges will make it even faster and deadlier
Just a beginner question, can we use tempest flurry on tempest bell ? it seems when i use tempest flurry on the bell, its not trigering, as when hitting the bell with the staff instead ?
Thats a great question! Good news it does. Its the prime way that this build excels later on. You always want to hit the bell with Tempest Flurry. Bad news is that there might be an auto aim bot that directs you away from the bell and onto your target, so simply dash away or re-position yourself :)
I’m having trouble understanding how to gain charges, I understood it while I was just using killing palm and falling thunder. I’ve just added charged staff and siphoning strike and it’s giving me a headache . Sorry what’s the gameplay loop 😊
@@PABLOSGHOST no worries that’s a legit question! In order for siphoning strike to give you a charge you need to use it on specific mobs. The mobs are the ones that you shock. By hitting them with spells like storm wave and tempest flurry you have a chance to shock them which you will see a blue lightning on them. When they have that on them then you use siphoning strike on them and it will give you a charge. That’s why we need to make sure we have the 100% chance to shock gem on tempest flurry so you can be able to shock them nonstop
@@PABLOSGHOST for early leveling you want the two cause it’s the only source of generation. Killing palm is not ideal because you usually kill everything with your tempest flurry and the ones who survive are very few which will force to stop pumping to get a charge. Additionally killing palm is useless against bosses. Siphoning strike is primarily used for bosses so u can charge staff into bell
@@PABLOSGHOST Merry Christmas to you too and your family :) Ofcourse you can, especially early levels you simply wanna focus on killing everything and then simply use Siphoning Strike to get a charge or two for the bosses :)
I would suggest two things to focus on: If you have the 'Leading through grace' ascendancy node then you wanna find a chest piece with high evasion and energy shield, any chest will do. And most importantly you want a good Quarterstaff. Usually the ones called ''Gothic Quarterstaff'' are the best. I have provided some extra details on the new video that just came out :)
Question about tempest bell. Is the shockwave damage calculated based on the staff you used to place the bell, or with whatever attack you hit it with?
I see in the build planner you have brutality support gem attached to siphoning strike. Wouldn't that make the shockwave deal zero damage, or does the modifier only apply to the initial strike?
first off i love the build. but im having a hard time following the build for support gems. As I am following the video, it seams like there is a gem used in more than one skill that is the same ? I am confused by this. I'm most likely just an idiot and not understanding what changes need to be made when. I'm in act 3 and struggling. Is there a way to show the build and gems for act 3 ( a final look if you will) ? Thanks
@@frankfiore3886 hey there thanks for letting me know I’ll make sure next one is clearer! Maybe it’s best to check the link in the description with the build planner , hope that helps. Also you can find my next Monk Lightning video which shows it better I believe
The more you level up the less you'll need Killin Palm. Especially when you get Tempest Flurry, Tempest Bell and Siphoning Strike. Killing Palm will be useless
Maybe there is something I don't know about POE (newb), but a Monk dealing elemental damage seems odd. I would think healing and physical arts would be more "Monk-like"
Definitely see where you're coming from but adding Elements to Monks in nowadays games is pretty common, just like Black Myth Wukong aswell. If you notice closely our main weapon ability is Tempest Flurry which is Quarterstaff combo that the monk performs of physical hits. I dont find it odd anymore but i definitely see what you mean :D
@@synen yeah it’s a bit annoying in the beginning, there is some kind of auto aim that targets the boss. You will definitely adapt to it later on and figure out how to place it properly so you block that auto aim. Best thing to do is try place the bell between you and the boss and in case it doesn’t hit roll away and go again
Early game especially before Cruel difficulty, dont even worry about charges, just kill them with anything available you have and use ocassional killing palm. Later on you spam Tempest Flurry to clear everything out and siphoning strike on bosses. Later on mobs are not going to be dieing one shots from your tempest flurry so it will be easier to siphoning strike them, but for engame content im preping a guide now which generates charges automatically :)
In your build planner you have Magnified Effect in both Herald Of Thunder and Tempest Bell which isn’t possible. Edit: Ahh, I noticed that in Late Leveling you have Concentrated Effect in Tempest Bell instead of Magnified Effect in the Mid Leveling section.
@ I absolutely ripped through Act 1. I followed your suggested order of passives in the video. I only died a few times using your suggested skills. I picked up a level 5 skill gem after freeing that woman from the boss just before the Manor Rampants as a reward. So I was able to get Tempest Flurry very early. I then found a nice double socket Quarterstaff at the merchant back in town, qualitied, and rarified it, put two lightning runes into it and turned it into an absolute beast! I’ve never gone through The Manor that quickly! With Tempest Flurry and all those awesome passives from the tree, I didn’t take a backward step. I tore the place to shreds. . I took Count Geonor’s health bar down in his first phase so fast that he started bugging out and just stood there for ages before he finally transformed into the wolf. I then did the same to his final form as well . I took his health bar down that quickly, that he only did the mist phase once. That was the only mechanic he ever got to perform. He didn’t get to do his area damage with the ice all over the ground. He didn’t get to do his leap slam on top of me. He never got to shoot those white rays and red rays from above down on my head. I just dropped the bell and absolutely annihilated him! It was all over in just over a minute and half. 🤣 This is so much better than the other Monk build attempts that I’ve tried. Cheers mate! 👍🙂
@@KeironP1 Absolutely love the detailed comment and the fact that you're shreading everything down! Im happy to let you know that Act 1 final wolf boss in Cruel difficulty gets even better. The guy didnt even do a single fog, thats how fast this build killed him. Working on an updated guy for this soon :)
@@appaplaysgames “the monkey” 😂 you get 100 spirit when you finish all side bosses that give spirit through the campaign! And then you rely on “Lead me through grace” node
@@Shane_Little at each encampment you find in each Act, there are 2-3 vendors. 1 that lets you disenchant, 1 that lets you buy and sell items, and 1 that’s called Gamble. This vendor sells items without showing you the stats. You buy one at random and it could be bad or really good
@ Damn. How have I missed that?! I addressed my passives tonight, then played for a half hour and kept getting smoked. Closed my laptop pissed off. 😂 I’ll have a look when I get the strength again. Stay well!
@@Shane_Little gambling for a great weapon early on can really help you out, you can also check what vendors offer as they might have something really good! Also vendors refresh their items very often! Hope this is helpful!
The game guides you to your first Aura Buff through progression, any character you play you will end up getting a Spirit Gem at the same phase of the game. To get the spirit you need you wanna find and kill one of the side bosses that drops an item that when you consume it, it gives you 30 spirit
I only changed this build to combat frenzy once i finished Cruel Difficulty. It's up to you really, when you want to add into your build. Once you add CF then 2-3 abilities become useless
So for me that is level 30 and using killling palm is useless? Im struggling to know what to choose:) from support gems and skills:) i die pritty easy i think.😊
You want to focus on getting Tempest Flurry as soon as possible. Once you do then make sure you focus your support gems on Tempest Flurry and you shouldnt have an issue with anything. You dont need to stop your damage to use killing palm and you wont need to use Charged Staff for normal mobs and rares. You'll be able to kill everything with herald of thunder and Flurry. Bosses the same with Tempest bell down. But before you get Tempest Flurry then you will want to use Killing Palm so you consume your charges on the Falling Thunder.
Had the same issue was randomly using it expecting to generate charges. You only want to use Siphoning strike when you see the enemy is shocked. You'll notice that they are covered with electricity. If you see that then just use it on the mob thats shocked and it will give u a charge. Hope this helps
@@ScorpiusOfficialthank you. It’s just hard to see them in big clunks of mobs. Now iam struggling at act 2 with boss dmg need to work at dodge rolls and get items up to date. But great build you have got subs from me and I would recommend you to my friends.
@@DarkWolfJCMC Thank you for the kind words DarkWolf, means alot! Btw, if you have a decent weapon and the right abilities and support gems, then you shouldnt struggle. What you wanna do is: Start combat with Storm Wave or Flurry until you see boss is electrocuted (shocked) immediately use siphoning strike. You can repeat this until you have 3 charges or simply just drop the bell and spam Flurry. Rinse and repeat. 2nd bell usually kills them
There are mutiple fixes in this issue. 1) find gear that gives mana per kill 2) invest in a few passive skill point for mana regen but the best one is 3) use Inspiration Support Gem on Tempest Flurry and go nuts :)
Unfortunately you wont be able to respecc out of that for now atleast, but im almost certain there is an amazing build with that ascendancy. You can still try to make it work however endgame you will definitely need the Invoker aschendancy for more spirit and defense. If you dont mind restarting would be the best choice and keep the 2nd monk for a potential good build with Chayula :)
@@Son_of_a_Biscuit hmm I never had this happen or hear others have that, your gear should focus on Evasion, energy shield and resistances, evasion rating and energy shield as prio tho
Herald of Ice is one of the strongest Auras for Monks, it's okay you would have needed it for later on anyway. What you can do is either invest into some cold stuff or follow my Cold Build guide for leveling. Ice Strike build with Herald of Ice is insanely good aswell, you'll definitely have fun with that one :)
I dont see the slots you put on falling thunder etc. Like im new following your build but how can you call it a build guide when you dont have some major things in the video.
The video clearly shows all support gems for all major abilities, additionally there is a build planner in the description that I’ve set up that has everything you need
@@somedude1324 just letting you know that any decisions you make within the campaign won’t necessarily stick to endgame! So best think to do is find an amazingly good weapon to buy from the trading market and blast through the campaign
@@ANDYJNBA if you have 0 spirit at that level that means you either use it on something else or you haven’t killed the side boss (Freythorn) who gives it to you.
If you managed to go Act 3 with Monk and Act 2 with Warrrior , you're doing things correctly, im sure that you simply need to find the right pieces to solve the puzzle and you'll fly from there on. Working on another Monk build now which makes it easier
@@theonewhoknocks2809 you mean Herald of Thunder? Why not? Spirit? If it’s spirit the issue then progress further in the game and make sure you kill the side bosses that give spirit
Depending on which level you are fighting the worm boss it can be a bit tough, i used Glacial Spike to slowly nuke him down from afar while dodging his abilities. Was using the Locus when i got close before he does the headbutt hit on the ground for some extra damage
I definitely agree with you up until a certain point. I am currently level 80 on high tier maps, and i find Tempest Flurry more enjoyable and better than Ice Strike.
How the hell are you meant to survive? Melee in this game is just painful to play. More than 4 mobs? Get blocked every time you try to dodge. Bosses? Great if you can stun lock them, but the act 1 final boss 2 shots me every time. My gear is up to date, highest evasion I can get but this just sucks for survivability
Hmm honestly i never experienced issues with survivability to the point of questioning the class, especially not in the campaign. Apart from the occasional hits and deaths here and there on rares or bosses ofcourse. Later on through endgame, the melee class builds excel tremendously getting to the point that they barely touch you and with Active abilities on the monk such as MEDITATE, you practically become unkillable. Working on an excellent build for endgame monk now :)

Yeah I need to change up my build. Thanks👍
I just started Monk after getting bored of Deadeye. Is ice strike better than tempest flurry? If not why don't go Ice strike from the get go?
@@ScorpiusOfficial thank you :)
@@peterschlenzek9154 Hope it helped :)
hey mate, how is your charged staff ability sending otu so man ywaves...im using mine and its liek 1 slow one at a time, how are monks spamming lots of charges, flipping ur staff around constantly...i dont get it
When you use Charged Staff it simply empowers your Tempest Flurry. With Martial Tempo gem on Tempest flurry you get extra atk speed. The more attack speed we have the more hits it will produce, plus using charged staff with 3 power charges will make it even faster and deadlier
@ScorpiusOfficial ok thanks I've been using it with power siphon which must be the issue
@@Endarios_87 It must be yeah, try those ones out :)
I just installed the game and went Monk because stick nation. This is so helpful for new players like me!
@@tofudubu0528 stick nation indeed! And thanks for a great comment happy to see you’re enjoying yourself and this helped 💪🏻
@ why do we need siphoning strike and killing palm? I find palm easy to use ? Siphoning hit and miss, why 2 charge procks ?
@@PABLOSGHOST for early leveling you want the two cause it’s the only source of generation. Killing palm is not ideal because you usually kill everything with your tempest flurry and the ones who survive are very few which will force to stop pumping to get a charge. Additionally killing palm is useless against bosses. Siphoning strike is primarily used for bosses so u can charge staff into bell
@@ScorpiusOfficial thanks for replying btw ! Merry Christmas. Can I just forget about killing palm then and just learn to use siphon ?
@@PABLOSGHOST Merry Christmas to you too and your family :) Ofcourse you can, especially early levels you simply wanna focus on killing everything and then simply use Siphoning Strike to get a charge or two for the bosses :)
Any solid random uniques you can use early on(act1->) to help? Picked up the belt you have recommended on the buildsite.
Is the shockwave damage calculated based on the staff you used to place the bell, or with whatever attack you hit it with?
shockwave damage is independant from the hit that triggered it however a high dmg weapon makes it better
are you going to post build planner soon?
Hey, yes , it's already added in the description :)
as a monk do we care about "armour" and "shield" on gears? and just focus on more "evasion"?
Even though armour reduces the dmg we get from phy attacks, its linked with Strength, therefore Evasion Rating and Shield are our focus.
so what armor monks wear? What stats they prioritize?
Evasion Rating and Energy Shield on your gear. You can also check the build planner in the description for more information
@@ScorpiusOfficial The planner says full evasion, it that correct?
Why do you not have eny support gems in killing palm?
Theres something that gets stuck to me in the flow shiponing make an animation which blocks activation of charged staff and then make it slower
On my way to start fresh with this build 💪 i love the idea of a monk and wonder how it will play on ps5
by far my best experience in POE2 so far! hope you enjoy
Easy sub !
Thank you! 😎
I am having a hard time targeting the bell, any tips please?
@@synen yeah it’s a bit annoying in the beginning, there is some kind of auto aim that targets the boss. You will definitely adapt to it later on and figure out how to place it properly so you block that auto aim. Best thing to do is try place the bell between you and the boss and in case it doesn’t hit roll away and go again
I just can’t manage to get charges. What’s your recommendation?
Early game especially before Cruel difficulty, dont even worry about charges, just kill them with anything available you have and use ocassional killing palm. Later on you spam Tempest Flurry to clear everything out and siphoning strike on bosses. Later on mobs are not going to be dieing one shots from your tempest flurry so it will be easier to siphoning strike them, but for engame content im preping a guide now which generates charges automatically :)
In your build planner you have Magnified Effect in both Herald Of Thunder and Tempest Bell which isn’t possible.
Edit: Ahh, I noticed that in Late Leveling you have Concentrated
Effect in Tempest Bell instead of Magnified Effect in the Mid Leveling section.
Hey sorry for the late reply, you are right Mid leveling was wrong, it was supposed to be Concentrated Effect on Bell, thanks for noticing
@ Cheers mate! I have a Monk in the mid 20s. But have just started a new one and trying your build out. 🙂👍
@ hope you enjoy! Bare in mind it’s a bit slow at the start
This is so much better than the other Monk build attempts that I’ve tried.
How does the monkey gain spirit?
@@appaplaysgames “the monkey” 😂 you get 100 spirit when you finish all side bosses that give spirit through the campaign! And then you rely on “Lead me through grace” node
Hi are you using a script to show the loot? Mind sharing. The one I have is bugged.
Hey there KageTV, try this one github.com/NeverSinkDev/NeverSink-PoE2litefilter
I’m sorry, what do you mean by ‘gamble’ for a quarter staff? I missed something somewhere 😂
@@Shane_Little at each encampment you find in each Act, there are 2-3 vendors. 1 that lets you disenchant, 1 that lets you buy and sell items, and 1 that’s called Gamble. This vendor sells items without showing you the stats. You buy one at random and it could be bad or really good

im be a little lost with monk and what do whit him, but ur video helped me a lot, thanks
Really happy to hear, hope you're enjoying it :)
How did you get herald of thunder without spirit to use it
The game guides you to your first Aura Buff through progression, any character you play you will end up getting a Spirit Gem at the same phase of the game. To get the spirit you need you wanna find and kill one of the side bosses that drops an item that when you consume it, it gives you 30 spirit
I'm level 46, where should I be at with this build? Should I have combat frenzy on ?
Act and 2 cold monk is 3asy mode once you have that charge thurnder then it's a diferent story
Indeed
I really strugle with Siphoning strike to use it correctly any tips?
2nd bell usually kills them
i have no idea how u guys play tempest flurry, i cannot replace my default staff attack with that, i'm out of mana in milliseconds.

I'm in Act 2 now, trying your build... but I feel like a glas cannon... Bosses are easy, but normal mobs kill me instant...
@@Son_of_a_Biscuit hmm I never had this happen or hear others have that, your gear should focus on Evasion, energy shield and resistances, evasion rating and energy shield as prio tho
What do I do if i got Herald of Ice by accident?
Herald of Ice is one of the strongest Auras for Monks, it's okay you would have needed it for later on anyway. What you can do is either invest into some cold stuff or follow my Cold Build guide for leveling. Ice Strike build with Herald of Ice is insanely good aswell, you'll definitely have fun with that one :)
Later on the game you will drop Sprit Gem and with that you can craft a new Herald. :)

Depending on which level you are fighting the worm boss it can be a bit tough, i used Glacial Spike to slowly nuke him down from afar while dodging his abilities. Was using the Locus when i got close before he does the headbutt hit on the ground for some extra damage
Ice strike is superior to tempest flurry. Ice > Lightning.
Working on an excellent build for endgame monk now :)
it's not "still the charge" it'e generate a charge. enemy doesen't need to have a charge.
If the enemy is shocked you steal the shock and convert it into a charge :)
the survivability is so poor on the monk in later act 3 where regular mobs 1-2 shots you.
never had an issue with this build - also bare in mind that your gear and resistances play a huge role to avoid being one shot
