    He should have added a warning that you should only do this type of experiment in a well ventilated room. If the levels of CO2 become too high, you could suffer from asphyxiation.

      Aris Zoungouridis You can melt dry ice if you put it into some closed container and increase the pressure. It will melt instead of sublimating.But it stays in liquid state as the pressure is high enough if not , it will turn back into dry ice. (sorry for my bad english)

    It's not how cold the CO2 is that puts out a fire, it's the fact that you're removing the oxygen rich environment from the fire that puts it out. Remember: Fire needs an ignition source, a fuel source, and oxygen. If you take one of these away, there won't be anymore fire.

      Martin O'Keeffe Well it all began when my mum and my dad had some "fun" aka fucking, then out I came. then after several years of going to school the computer was available, I heard about this new thing called "UA-cam" so I checked it out, then I got obsessed with it. Then after a few years a shitty company called "Google" decided to buy the whole god damn UA-cam, making it look more complicated. That's when I found this Russian who changed my living by showing me these amazing Hacks and how I've been doing stuffs wrong all of my life, I mean I fucking used the matchbox to light my matches, that's way more complicated than using a fucking window (Shutout to this amazing Russian hacker who've toughed me and trained me to become a internet ninja).
      Well to the point, I've been doing dry ice for my entire life and this makes it so much easier than it was before!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Now all a need is a fire extinguisher and a bag! AMAZING!

    When I was in the US Army, we maintained aircraft and there were guys who would use the large fire extinguishers (that were used to protect the aircrew during aircraft start up) to "INSTA-FREEZE" their six-packs of beer!!! That was so cool!!! I doubt they thought about how expensive it was for Uncle Sam to recharge those large bottles (they were approximately 3 times the size of his fire extinguisher in the video).

      Some countries don't have dry ice so readily available. Like NZ. I wanted to get dry ice for some experiments, closest place was two hours drive away. I live in one of the main city's. By the time I would get it back home, half of it would be gone, based on its sublimation rate. Plus its quite expensive here

    This man is terrific!
    The CO2 is liquid inside of the extinguisher under very high pressure. Inside of the pillow case at room temperature and at normal atmospheric pressure the liquid CO2 condenses in to a solid.
    As for the fire extinguisher it can be refilled if depleted. Normally it is supposed to be checked once per year.

    Try this hot ice illusion I just discovered!
    Take some ice, and put them in hot water. Make sure it's not too hot so that you can dip your hands in it.
    Now for the fun part, try to touch the ice while dipping your hands in the water. You will feel like the ice is hot, but not.

    Quick chemistry question: when it produces carbon dioxide gas when you put it in warm water is it basically skipping the state of liquid because its so cold?

    • @sethxtekken
      @sethxtekken 8 років тому

      +CARTEV no its just like fart , if you drink too much milk with bananaah you will fart it is same here

    • @jaredf6205
      @jaredf6205 8 років тому +2

      When a solid turns directly into a gas it's called sublimation. The reason it skips liquid is because the air pressure around it is too low. States of matter depend on pressure as much as they do temperature. For example, if you lower the air pressure around water, it will boil at a lower temperature and if low enough, it will boil at room temperature. CO2 does not have a liquid state at room temperature at regular pressure so it skips it. Imagine a graph with a Y shape in it, on the left is solid, on the right is gas, the top middle is liquid. Moving up increases pressure, moving right increases temperature. Imagine how if you have a higher pressure, you move through the liquid part(top middle of the Y) as you increase temperature, but if you lower the pressure, it passes through the stem of the Y and skips right to gas. In the right conditions, you can get a substance in the middle(the triple point) and it will be all three at the same time.

I work in an engineering and environmental consulting firm using Autocad, Microstation and various GIS apps to design and create plans for our clients. I never had to use the metric system once in my 15 year career.

    It is actually against the law to set off a fire extinguisher with there being a emergency. It is a $1000 fine but they don't enforce it to often. There needs to be a different way of doing this with using the extinguisher.
