  • Hello everyone, in today's video we are going to be comparing Achachairu and Madruno. Garcinia humilis (Achachiru) and Garcinia madruno (Madruno).
Both of these fruits are native to Colombia but can be grown in South Florida.
Achachiru- has a sour/sweet taste that melts in your mouth. At first bite, it was acidic followed by a nice balance of sweetness. This fruit is fun to eat as it provides a soothing experience for tastebuds.
    - The skin on the achachiru is much more smooth compared to the bumpy skin on the madruno
Madruno- has a sweet/light sour taste. Much sweeter than the achachiru and as well as more meat. It still melts in your mouth but you definitely taste more sweetness in the madruno compared to the achachiru. Madruno definitely was much bigger in size than the achachiru, almost triple its size.
Overall I prefer Garcinia madruno over Garcinia humilis because of the more meat you get with madruno as well as madruno is slightly sweeter. But achachiru is still delicious and I am still going to grow both trees.

Is there any other better tasting garcinia ? Or is Madruno the best one we can grow in South Florida

Las garcinias son espectaculares. En mi opinión son el balance perfecto entre la acidez y la dulzura. In Colombia you can get several species: Bacuri parí, Achachairú, madroño and Bacuparí. We even have a WhatsApp group where we can trade the ones we like. (not only garcinias but Colombian native fruits in general).

Hello from California! Great video, thank you. I planted Achacha last week, it should do well here in San Diego. Now I would like to find madruno, that sounds wonderful.

Great vid man! One thing to note is im pretty sure thats Garcinia Macrophylla (way more rare), since Garcinia Humilis or achacha distincts itself by having orange skinned fruit

Thanks William! I looked up Garcinia macrophylla - but to me that variety has a longer tip. I thought achachairú were yellow/ orange skinned. But if it is macrophylla I would be more than happy to grow that as well. Thanks for your comment and teaching me a new Garcinia.

So many unique species to that area of the tropical Americas, I bet you can find something unique to introduce to South Florida. Also really helps you get to observe them in their wild habitat for trying to cultivate them here
