    I have been giving nac to my son who has severe schizophrenia and has been in and out of the hospital for years. I saw a difference in him within 30 minutes after giving him 1000 mg. He's calmer and happier and hasn't had as many angry outbursts in the week's since.

    NAC is an amazing compound I've used for almost a decade for a variety of reasons. It's very scary to see the FDA and Amazon trying to prevent people from buying it.

    • @beastmode4617

      The FDA banned it because it's safe and effective and May potentially cut into the profits of big pharma.

    As a nurse who had a brother with Schizophrenia ( he’s gone now) I would love if this worked for the people who suffer from this disorder. 🙏 I pray it’s a breakthrough. My brother had no life here. He must in the next world ❤️

      So sorry to hear. It has some evidence as augmentation but not on its own or in treating serious illness. Hopefully there will be better breakthroughs for schizophrenia in the future. Take care and sorry for your loss.

    NAC is good for mild catatonia. I myself have it. It reduces impulsivity thus can slightly improve working memory too. Reduces the urge to respond to OCD and other false urges. It also reduces muscle stiffness thus may be useful for Parkinson's disease and in other neurodegenerative conditions.

    After a four month long course of accutane, I found myself having horrible adhd. I lost my job, I can’t focus the same as before. Did some research found out it could be due to oxidative stress from accutane that induced the adhd.
    I have been on adderall 10 mg for 2 weeks and found improvement but upon reading how adderall can cause neurotoxicity. I Stopped treatment. Now I have to deal with this adhd, and am trying to self-medicate using NAC, l theanine, l tyrosine, GABA, and cod liver oil.
    My hopes are that I can reduce the oxidative stress from the accutane course and get my mental health back, my adhd was never this bad and was manageable prior to going on accutane, had straight As before hand. So if this works it will be amazing.
    Anyone have any comments, or ideas about this?

      While we can't provide medical advice - some general thoughts. Stimulants such as dexamphetamine and methylphenidate are safe when prescribed at the appropriate dose. There is an inverted U shape curve where too high a dose can be excitotoxic. Any symptoms of ADHD should also have a thorough medical screen to rule out other disorders. There are also non-stimulants and alpha agonists in the treatment of ADHD. Furthermore, long-acting stimulants are more likely to mimic the rhythmic dopamine release of the brain. psychscenehub.com/psychinsights/diagnosis-and-management-of-adult-adhd/

      PsychScene Hub what about stimulants on a therapeutic dose do you think this can cause aging? I heard adderall caused aging and my adhd gets really bad to impact my quality of life but I care a lot about my skin and don’t want aging 😭but I do need the adhd help that’s for sure

    • @PsychiatrySimplified
      @PsychiatrySimplified  4 роки тому +8

      Valeria Bustos I would recommend having a discussion with a psychiatrist or your doctor about this. There is no evidence of stimulants ’causing’ ageing or accelerating the ageing process.

      Are you sure you aren't perhaps self medicating something like unnaturally high baseline levels of glutamate or something like that? Do you ever get so anxious that your brain feels like it is almost fizzing? It might be more of an anxiety disorder causing you to feel depressed but I could be wrong!

    • @PsychiatrySimplified
      @PsychiatrySimplified  2 роки тому +2

      A study showed that - N-acetylcysteine demonstrated statistically significant reductions in trichotillomania symptoms. No adverse events occurred in the N-acetylcysteine group, and N-acetylcysteine was well tolerated. Pharmacologic modulation of the glutamate system may prove to be useful in the control of a range of compulsive behaviors.

    Not every psychotic patient is the same type. I know some Patienten with schizoaffective disorder. There it's easier.
    They all had muscles cramps, slight headaches, problems with sleep and an unwiling loss of weight before their psychotic episodes. But the maniac and psychotic symptomes we're the only seen by doctors. But if you start to give them magnesium when the sleep problems begin, then they never get psychotic...
    There's an easy explanation: magnesium ist the co-factor of COMT-enzyme, then adrenaline, noradrenaline, dopamin one after the other can't be built down. All exceeds. Then the Body Takes another way by serotonine, too. That's causing the maniac symptoms.
    At the end the dopamine is still too much and the psychosis starts.
    Caffein makes all worse in this Case because it's built down the same way.

      Do you mean the doses of NAC. There is a range. Doses in OCD for example have been trialled at 2-4 gms ( 2000-4000mgs). Taking NAC and doses should be discussed with a medical professional especially if higher doses are used. The pharmacist can also provide information. Ps not medical advice
