    Take-Home Points
    • Study results show an effect of NAC only in people with severe depression.
    • NAC has no effect on idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis but does improve the quality of life for patients.
    • Complex 1 of the mitochondrial electron transfer chain is dramatically down-regulated in bipolar disorder.

1Gram of B1 Thiamine (benfotiamine) and 500MG of NAC seems to be giving me an extra boost. I feel an increase in my dopamine levels, motivation, less impulsive behaviors (sugar cravings and alcohol consumption), less procrastination, focused on repetitive tasks more, and after day 4 the effects haven’t worn off yet. I’ll reply back after 30days to see how things are going but so far this is definitely a win for me. I take another 300MG of Benfotiamine before bed and it helps with deep sleep.

@@AlbionRising it’s turning into a lifestyle but I only take 2 days off. Outside of that I take this regime everyday until I reach the point that I feel my most optimal self. Honestly I feel like I’m getting closer to that point. My cortisol levels are perfect, my oxytocin levels have significantly improved, still working towards my dopamine levels which I know will take time and I’m in no rush with that.
I’m at the gym everyday at 5AM which definitely a sign that my dopamine levels are improving in certain areas just need to be more consistent with them.

@@luv2travel2000 it’s seems my bodies B1 deficiency has improved so now I just take 1/2 gram of B1 and only take NAC only on my fasting days for detox purposes.
But!!! I found something that’s even a bigger game changer than B1.
      R - Alpha Lipoic Acid
See as we get older our bodies struggle to metabolize carbs/sugar/alcohol properly. This leads to stubborn weight loss, water retention, and unfortunately insulin resistance. There’s tons of videos out there on insulin resistance and it’s symptoms. I’m convinced that I struggled with autism symptoms and insulin resistance symptoms most of my adult life.
B1, Vitamin D and probiotics helped significantly but R-ALA seems to stop things in their tracks.
It improves the bodies ability to break down carbs so I take close to 1Gram before a carb meal and maybe 2 supplements before bed. Daily!!!!!
Then on my fasting days I take just a 1/2 a gram as a form of detox.
First thing I noticed is my stubborn body fat is shrinking especially lower back area, my impulse and desire to get things done has improved significantly. My face is trimming down. Something I struggled with for years.
Did you know that dementia is deemed the brains version of diabetes? High insulin can cause brain related ailments so is it a coincidence that high doses of R -ALA seems to be improving my mental function?
Forgot to mention when I get colds I usually lose my sense of taste and smell. What if I told you R-ALA improves neuropathy and my senses come back quicker. It’s like an antioxidant but on steroids because it improves insulin sensitivity.

Did you know "chronic fatigue" and "chronic fatigue syndrome" (cfs) are different? People with chronic fatigue are exactly that.. chronically tired. People with the syndrome have bodies that basically poison them from the effort of physical activity. Mixing the two is why people think exercise therapy works.. because it works on the people who are chronically fatigued from stress and depression, and not people who are seriously ruined internally by cfs.

    • @PsychiatrySimplified

Why give settle with the building blocks which would require energy to convert if energy is a problem as suggested with ATP? Seems skipping a step might be easier. I'm not against making sure one has all the building blocks but the blocks could get reprioritized to other deficient areas first whereas targeted forms would tend to go where intended first right? Mag, zinc and B6 do hundreds of things in the body. Whereas mag theronate and melatonin are more brain oriented out of the box.

Something else to consider. Perhaps NAC and antidepressants in recent studies are negative because now a days, everyone is diagnosed with depression and anxiety and it drowns out the patient population. Antidepressants really shine in people with "true" or more severe depression and anxiety as a disorder and disease. Think about it, why does NAC seem so helpful for schizophrenia and bipolar depression in studies? Probably because people dont easily get those diagnosis. They are not overdiagnosed so the study populations reflect people who truly have a serious case of these disorders.

NAC does wonders for mitochondria alone. So I wouldn't worry too much. Just look up individual supplements that restore or modulate mitochondrial function. I heard someone who does these studies hypothesis that taking d l phenylalanine with NAC would create a synergy that would hypothetically complete the puzzle of mental/ possibly even physical health.

    • @PsychiatrySimplified
      @PsychiatrySimplified  3 роки тому +1

These were the results of the mitochondrial cocktail study. The overall study was negative - In summary, this study produced unexpected data on the potential efficacy of NAC and CT for the treatment of bipolar depression. While negative on the primary 16-week outcome, as measured by the MADRS, there was statistical separation on a number of measures at the 20-week post-discontinuation visit, which was offset by a possible increase in manic symptoms, as measured by the YMRS. Though this study does not provide a clear pathway to treat bipolar depression by augmenting mitochondrial function, it does furnish us with proof of principle and points to a mechanistic role of increased biogenesis in the pathophysiology of mania. www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC6346513/
