I know this is an older video, but I thought I would let you know and anyone who is interested ?i I got some suet from my butcher and rended it down and froze it.I tried the grated version for my dumplings but wasn’t really happy with my result,so what I done was to put the suet in my food processor and blitzed it to smallish like bread crumbs, then I mixed a little gf flour with it and shook it sieved it a little and then stored it in a jar put it in the fridge and used it like any other suet and it worked.I follow your recipes usually with success.Thank you.
Thanks so much. That’s great to know should anybody want to give them a whirl with fresh suet from the butcher’s. I’ve only ever made them with grated lard. Your message has prompted me to pick up another block and give them a whirl again just to make sure all OK with the recipe. I do like to revisit things I share just in case things need tweaking. Thanks again for such a great tip! X
I was given some beef kidney fat once. Spent a whole afternoon rendering it down and froze it . That was the easy bit . It took me days to get all the grease off the utensils that I used , and also to get the smell out of the kitchen . The suet that I made wasn't too bad , but you didn't need much of it , and the washing up after was a nightmare again . I ended up giving it all to the birds . I now use flour , grated potatoes , mashed potatoes , dripping and salt .
Not at all. The flour I used in the video was Sainsbury’s gluten free self-raising but I’ve not been able to pick that up for a while. I now use ASDA free from flour and it’s great. If you’re only able to get gluten free plain flour then add 1 teaspoon of gluten free baking powder. The link for the full recipe is in the written description should you want to check it out. Give me a shout if there’s anything else.
@@SimonBrown-q6x oh fabulous!! Hope your partner very much enjoys them! I’ve not made them for a while but hoping to rustle up a batch to go in a stew later on this week 💫
