- This is the second video we have done on how to make a leather rope bag. This one is similar to the older video that we did, but in this one we do a much more simple gusset system.

Great video as always! You've mention headstalls a couple of time in this one, it would be awesome to have a pattern pack for headstalls with different sizes! Really hard to find good ones out there :)

Wish I had the confidence to freehand cut those gusset pieces! You should have the tooling portion of the video running at the shows so people can see just how much work goes into these projects. From what I've seen, most people have no idea why these projects are somewhat expensive.

Beautiful work maybe cut out middle panel after you tool the front panel so that the middle will be exactly the same as the front

@charlesabbott5563 never meant to be critical I think Don is an excellent craftsman and have learned a lot from him he does exquisite work and always admire his projects probably should have kept that comment to myself
@@charlesabbott5563 It was a simple question. The same thing came to my mind when I heard that. Based on the comments, others did, too. No reason to be an asshole.
Not a criticism, just a question: why not cut and tool the front, then use it as a "template" to cut out the middle and back panels?
What brand of snaps do you use? Thanks!
I would like to know what weight leather the panels are cut from? Can I order plain panels precut?
Could you speak to the setup of your machine when sewing What presser foot, plate, feed dogs etc It may help people with there setup initally You are one the few leather guys on youtube that actually use sewing machines You and MLS
Im almost certain he uses the standard feed dog that comes with the Class 4 which would be the same exact feed dog for a Techsew 5100 or a Cowboy 4500. They are all clones of the Juki 441 so dont expect a difference between machines.
As far as the presser foot goes, the same information applies. The only time someone may have a different foot attached would be if ur doing zippers but the foot that comes standard can do the job just as well with practice. A aftermarket foot would be a piping foot but i dont think Don uses one..
The only thing i could think of Don using that may be out of the ordinary for standard parts would be his spur attachment for sewing the curves on a spur. Other than that im almost sure his machine "most" of the time is mostly stock except for maybe a zipper foot.
Source: I own a Techsew and did plenty of research prior to buying it. I learned alot about industrial sewing machines and the mkst important thing i learned was that each model that was sold by a specific company was also sold by all the other competitors in the market. All they do is rebrand the sewing machine with their name maybe put a light or some gizmo to attract potential customers. However internally the parts are exactly the same no matter what machine you buy.

Just to add, he did use a zipper foot with this project. Most sewing machine companies usually include one with their machine, if not you can find one for cheap online. They arent to unusual to see on a sewing machine
@@Handles-R-Lame That's the standard leather walking foot and LH presser foot that comes with the machine. I own a 441 and I've never seen a zipper foot or what one would look like for one of these.

@@shanehester4852 yeah its funny how a paint job and a few extra attachments can easily trick most consumers. The only difference between the companies would be their customer service aspect. As it might be something to be considered, especially if you are looking for a long-term relationship with the company.
Cowboy branded sewing machines are known for being there for their customers, as well as offering aftermarket parts.
How is your 3500 treating you so far?
