    I actually think MS want Xbox to be more like Valve. Or rather, directly compete with them. Be a software company/service provider that does some niche hardware that works great with their software but isnt the only option. Phil already said publicly that they could not compete with Sony.
    The resulting chaos is due to giant shift within the company. They are moving pieces around before they execute their plan for the future.
    Valves Index VR headset is great for SteamVR, but you can still buy a Vive or Oculus to use SteamVR. They have the Steam Deck, great for Steam but you can still buy an ROG Ally, Aya Neo or any other PC handheld and run Steam. Xbox are likely going to go for a similar approach to hardware and software infrastructure.
    I think Xbox are going to launch a PC based Handheld with their own software installed that works seemlessly with GamePass. I think that software will also be the basis for a new PC desktop pc storefront/launcher. They will ride out the Series X until the NextBox release wich will ship with that same software.
    Both the new handheld and the NextBox will be ARM-based architecture. The reason I say that is because not only is it already rumored but it would line up with my theory of having the software between Nextbox and handheld all seamless.
    Xcloud will also fall in line with all of the software changes.
    Also a shift in branding to mirror Valve is a possibility. Something like:
    Valve = Microsoft Gaming
    Steam = Xbox
    Valve Steam {Deck} = Microsoft Xbox {handheld}/{Series X}/{Nextbox}
    This would also explain why Phil got bumped up to Head of Microsoft Gaming and Sarah is now Head of Xbox. There is serious shifting going on in order to get things setup for their new strategy.

      I feel like Microsoft is getting ready to phase out the Xbox brand, since it's pretty much worthless now, and it's just a terrible name anyway, from a marketing perspective. Third party game publishing will be done through Microsoft Gaming. The next gen hardware is in the hands of the Surface team, so it's not on Xbox. It seems to me like Microsoft has been taking responsibilities away from Xbox. And if you watch Sarah Bond's interview with Bloomberg, it's obvious that her being the Head of Xbox is merely for optics. She doesn't know anything about gaming. She doesn't know what she's doing. She's not making any of the decisions. She's just there to fill a role until Xbox gets phased out and she's moved to another area of the company, hopefully an area more comfortable for her.

    • @alyxoj1361
      @alyxoj1361 Місяць тому +3

      @@G360LIVE I don't think that is the case. I also think Sarah Bond is no different from Phil Spencer. Phil plays the "im the gamer guy" spiel but he really is not. I mean on his xbox account he basically plays Vampire Survivors and a bit of Diablo and he has a really low gamerscore.
      Sarah was hand picked and vetted by Phil and they are basically the same. The reason she sounded so clueless in the interview is because I think management are not on the same page as eachother. There has been so much shifting around and changes that no one can keep up. There is so much they aren't allowed to say just yet because they are still figuring things out.
      I am not making excuses for them though, If they say stupid things or come across like they don't know what is left or right then thats on them. I just think Sarah came across really bad but in reality I don't think anyone at MS could have done any better considering the situation that I believe is goin on behind the scenes.

    I’d like an Xbox/PC hybrid box that could boot to either an Xbox OS or Steam OS…with compatibility of PCVR. I’d even like it to have processor and graphics upgrade ‘slots’ like they do for the SSD although I know that’s a pipe dream. Plug in, super easy and convenient. I used to build pcs for gaming but now that I’m older…I just like the convenience of a console. I’ll be willing to bet there are others in the same boat.

    if they really want to increase market share getting some sort of windows version on an xbox at a price and performance that out does the next gen low end pc costs i'd buy in to that market. Its very hard to justify a console if you already have a capable pc. Consoles have to do more for me to want to buy one.

    • @d8l835
      @d8l835 Місяць тому +1

      Exactly. I already have a capable PC. So what does a console have to do to get me to buy in?
      Well, for starters, priced affordably. But it has to have games that I want to play, but more importantly can't play on my PC.
      That second point eliminates Xbox immediately, as I can play all their games day 1, on PC, for my 1$ gamepass subscription I have had and will continue to have till my gold subscription that they rolled into gamepass runs out lol
      That leaves Sony and Nintendo. Sony is releasing games on PC, but not day 1, and in most cases LONG after launch. So if Sony wants me to buy their console, I need them to release games on it that I don't want to wait 6 months- 2 years to play when it comes out on PC....which they do, more so on PS4 gen but regardless it's still their platform. So I buy PS.
      Nintendos games are pretty much only on Nintendo, so I buy Nintendo. Admittedly I don't play many Nintendo games anymore, kind of grown out of those styles of games, but they still release some good stuff and my kid loves the switch.
      Here's the end problem. I have reasons to buy Nintendo and Sony consoles even though I have a great PC already. I have no reason to buy an Xbox, at all. I would buy it, but I have no reason to do so.
      I don't even have to buy Xbox games. The vast majority of people don't either because they have the much cheaper option in gamepass. Some of them, like me, have years of it stacked and paid a single dollar lol...are we all seeing the issue here? All of us, have no reason to buy Xbox consoles, nor their games....how the f do you make any money in this business like that? Especially after adding on 70 billion dollars of debt on top of this mess your in.
      This was all forseeable years ago. They just kept digging that hole deeper and deeper that nothing can get them out anymore. They are f'd

    For me it seems like both Sony and Microsoft are currently going the route of third party developers that also have a console on the side with the console no longer being the main focus, as for them it is just a loss-leader anyway to get people to buy their games. If they can get their sales on something else than their own console, they will drop it pretty quickly.
    Nintendo will basically have a console monopoly at that point, as nobody else even cares about making consoles. Meanwhile Nintendo makes money on both their console and games, so for them, it will be worth it to stay in that business as long as possible. But you can also already see Nintendos new goal, taking over all of entertainment.

    See the sad thing is Xbox was genujnely a fantastic brand in the early 2000s. I missed out on original xbox in favour of ps2 (played alot of wrestling at the time) but I jumped in on ps3/360 generation and personally for me 360 was THE winning console that was a MUST in every household. When we had 360, it felt like Xbox was a juggernaut. Then the one came out and I had it for a while...I didnt have any complaints for a while, I played Ryse son of rome, dead rising 3, and a metric f**k ton of master chief collection. Even the newer call of duties at the time felt pretty great to me. Then I swapped to ps4, and now I'm on ps5. Sony, bloated as they are, still feel like they'll continue to stay winning. I'm not saying the playstation 5 has felt like the most amazing console I've ever played, but I'm certainly not even remotely tempted to the series x or s. Shame to hear that they're actively killing their console in favour of game pass too. You feel more connected with the fan base when you have games exclusively released for a console on a tv. Thats what made it special. Every time you turned on that 360, you were tuning into the world and it felt like you were in the party.

    Microsoft always had its head up its own arse when it comes to pc gaming. Until they fix that which probably means a rebranding of the Windows Store Xbox Pc is doomed. Top executives are pushing AI for Windows now. It's hard to stop fragmentation as it stands for Play Anywhere. You have Gamepass for console, for x86 and a new warfront for Windows on Arm. I can imagine a Windows based ARM handheld to help unify things but they need to bolster software / game sales to stay a float and probably change how Gamepass competes against itself. How do game devs sell their games? Obviously executives want ip sold everywhere. Exclusivity sucks for the bottom line when you don't have the numbers to back the expenses with real world game sales. So on one hand you could promote a new closed off xbox / handheld or you can sell it as an all in one Windows device thats open to all store fronts and force feed AI down our throats to gather data from us as Microsoft has always been about telemetry. Neither strategy bodes well for gaming on the current model. This sure is an exciting time. Something has to give or change and it would be amazing to see if they can succeed and make the gaming industry better for it as dire as it may seem.

    No. I dont see them. When they dominate they get more creative and push out something quite insane. Look at ps3 it was extremely bespoke and if you took the time to learn it it was truly the better machine. There was no complacency.
    Sony entered cause they saw that they could do better, offer better. And they have been doing that since day 1. They have never saw what their competition is doing and actually cared. The closest thing they came close to with that was motion controllers. And they put out a better product than what nintendo had as well as ms. Did it take off? No but the tech behind it was indeed better at the time.
    Look at vr. Nobody is doing thzt for consoles, only sony. Is the psvr2 a complacent product? Hell no. For a good while it was one of the best hardware for vr. People actually wanted and still want it to be usable on pc.
    Sony doesnt care what ms or nintendo does. What they do care about is what devs do. They have been consistently now going out to devs talking to them, getting feedback. Ps4 and ps5 were shaped by what the devs wanted. And what do we see from that? A very powerful system that devs makes games for and people buy said system to play those games. Thats what sets sony apart.
    So it doesnt matter what ms does or what nintendo does. Sony doesnt fully care about that. They are concious of them, they are aware of them. But they continue to do their own thing. So no they wouldnt get complacent. Playstation has be ome a huge revenue/profit source for the company. They arent going to knee cap it cause ms is no longer a player.

I think (MY opinion) that most of the people who buy a Nintendo console are because of their exclusives (Mario, Zelda, etc.). I don't think that people are struggling to decide if they buy a Switch instead of a PS/Xbox (taking the budget factor out of the equation). PS and Xbox libraries have more overlapping between them than with the Nintendo console. I am an Xbox user but if the time comes I would never buy a Nintendo console because their library of games doesn't appeal to my tastes and I would be forced to pay whatever Sony asks for a PS and its games.

      This. Unless Nintendo can run these major, AAA titles well, then gamers will be forced to purchase the PlayStation. Sony could easily mandate $100 MSRP and lootboxes in every game, and if gamers wanted to play those games, they wouldn't have a choice. Piracy would be the new standard.

    When xbox says they won’t be making exclusives - the messaging is clear. Consumers cannot expect console selling exclusive quality games from them. Then Why should we bother with xbox and games pass? Xbox can say whatever they want - gamers just want good games. And xbox does not promise that what they do committed to is their platform . Without great games Who cares?

    After the Ghost of Tsushima numbers on Steam, Sony will give serious thoughts to releasing their "exclusive masterpieces" day 1 on PC and there will be no need to buy a Playstation console anymore (just like Xbox One/Series consoles)

    • @gamingdevil800
      @gamingdevil800 Місяць тому +4

      The difference is Sony wants you to buy a PS5 because they're still making 30% off of every game sold on the Playstation Store by comparison Xbox game store purchases are declining due to gamepass. So day 1 for games that are not multiplayer seems unlikely because if they succeed in making someone buy a Playstation then they're more likely going to buy other games there too.

      @@gamingdevil800 Agreed. And don't forget arguably the most important aspect. Getting those customers into the Playstation ecosystem. PC players will play the games, but won't be generating any additional revenue for Sony. Day and date people have to understand that just buying the game on Steam and not participating in the ecosystem by not buying anything on PSN ensures that day and date for single player games at least for the time being, would not be smart.

      Nintendo has sold 3 times more Switches than Sony PlayStation 5. Compared to Series X it is way more than 5:1 in sales volume. It is not even worth discussing who is lead in consoles people. There is Nintendo, at 1/3 of the volume is Sony and at 1/5th of Nintendo sales is XBox. Of you only care about series X then things are very dire for XBox. If you are trying to say Nintendo games are not good well good luck they sell way more than the titles you list on consoles. If you include PC then yes some of these games are very popular but strictly consoles not so great….

    'Nintendo doesn't really compete with it in that space?' That is an utterly preposterous supposition. Of course Nintendo competes with Microsoft and Sony in the home console space. They're all in the same market and compete for where consumers will next spend their hard-earned cash. It doesn't matter if Nintendo is a toy company. If they weren't competing, Sony would not have reacted with its haphazard Sony PlayStation Portal release and Microsoft would not be investigating a possible mobile Xbox platform. Most tellingly, Valve would not have come out with the Valve Deck portable game system. Nintendo has been siphoning off big bucks that Sony, Microsoft, and Valve should have otherwise raked in easily. I think the asker of this question has taken public-relations talk too much to heart. PR talk is just that, talk.

    Sony are already killing their own platform with pc releases so it makes no difference if xbox leaves the console market.
    Sony will push themselves out of the console market while they're competing with the pc audience.
    I'll be shocked if ps6 could sell 1/4 of the ps4 sales with their current strategy.
