    Nice vid but just a gentle suggestion. Tare out the pot and weigh in the oil directly and save on a clean up step.

    I've been making and using this for about 7 years. A camping coffee pot work good for this. And easier to pour. Just take out the inside pieces of the coffee pot.

    Use a double boiler or a bowl on top of a pot of boiling water to melt you wax and mineral oil mixture together.

    2:47 "The oil can burn"
    the straight face saying this cracked me up.

    Your beeswax will melt faster if you grate it before putting in your oil.

      That is true and I have done that. I found that the time I save melting it faster by grating is lost in the added clean up of the grater and the mess I make. I'll have to get a grater dedicated to making board butter so I don't have to clean it well enough to go back in the kitchen drawer.

    Have you considered using a double boiler and chopping up the wax for easier melting, and to,prevent boiling?

      Found an old hive inside a cedar tree when it was cut down and i collected it, so ive been messing with wax lately. Chopping it up and double boiler is absolutely the way to go. Saves a ton of time

    Go Bucky! Good video, too. (just get excited to see a fellow cheesehead on here) Will be giving this a go to pair with my cutting/BBQ boards and my cheese slicers.

    Hi! Thanks for the tutorial. Was wondering how long you 'cooked' over the stove for before you let it cool? Thanks!

      I provide a small tin of board butter with each cutting board, and have it available to sell as well. Easy to make and it works great.

    Nice video. I have been using a blend of mineral oil and tung oil for my charcuterie boards. I just started making board butter and I’m curious if I should use one or the other or both. Would appreciate your advice. Thanks!

      I stick with mineral oil for use on any food related. I don’t know that tung oil is “food grade” but I am not 100% sure. I do know that the bees wax and mineral oil I use for board butter is food grade/ food safe.

      I used mct oil, as I am not comfortable using mineral oil on things my food will touch.

      @@ely42609I used coconut oil for mine. It's amazing for your body too. I came home yesterday from too long in the sun and my face was VERY red. I applied some and left it on an hour then washed it off and did it again this morning. My skin looks great.

    Do you have to sterilize the cans or is bacteria not of concern?

    Use a bain-marie, far less likely to burn your house down.

    Is your mineral oil plant based or is it refined from crude oil??

    • @caseykakuske
      @caseykakuske  2 роки тому +1

      It is very refined from crude oil to the point that you can use it on surfaces that come in contact with food, such as a cutting board.

    6 oz of beeswax to 16 oz of mineral oil is not a 4:1 ratio......what's up with that

      He said 4oz of Beeswax! DICkHEAD

    • @noneyabiz1020
      @noneyabiz1020 7 місяців тому

      it was SPOSE to be 4oz of beeswax BUT he said "close enough" with the 6oz of beeswax, you want a MIN of 4:1 putting more beeswax ISNT ganna hurt anything the only thing its ganna do is solidify your board butter more
