  • Located just 85 kilometres south-west of Ho Chi Minh City in Vietnams Mekong Delta, Bến Tre is a green island sandwiched between four branches of the Mekong River that best known as the coconut kingdom of Vietnam.
One of the most beautiful, unspoilt and authentic provinces of Vietnam, it’s become an attractive destination for those who like to hole up in a beautiful homestay on the banks of the mighty Mekong River, explore the often quiet narrow canals and the lush tranquil greenery of the tropics.
Mekong life is the norm here and it’s a very unadulterated scene-wandering the markets, sipping the coffee, doing a boat trip or cycling along the village roads are all experiences that need to be had.
During a boat trip you can visit local villages, fruit orchards and islands. You can see how local life uses the rivers for collecting and distributing coconuts in particular. If you rent a small boat yourself, you can go more into the small canals where you can enjoy the lush beauty of the area.
Ben Tre is also a good place to explore by bicycle. Large and flat with many rice fields to cycle around, this is a very nice place in the Delta. From the town of Bến Tre, I recommend crossing the river and go east and just keep going. The further you go the nicer it gets and the roads are pretty good with little traffic.
Overall, a visit to the coconut palm covered waterways of Bến Tre is an incredible experience that you should not miss while in Vietnam but do your research, be very clear about the sort of experience you are looking for to avoid disappointment.
Instead of commuting from Ho Chi Minh city and being rushed around on an organized tour, we opted to travel Bến Tre and stay in one of the many homestays available. We chose Homestay Nam Hàm Luông which was absolutely brilliant.
I hope that you enjoy the video. Be sure to check out my other videos from Vietnam, and don't forget to like 👍 share comment and subscribe if you are a legend!

I enjoyed your drone footage! Good work! I will be traveling to Vietnam in November! How far is this from Ho Chi Minh City? I see you didn't use a tour which i prefer! This place looks more calm and tranquil over the other touristy area

Hey Dezz. Thanks for your comment. Bến Tre is about 85km southwest of HCMC. Like you, we also prefer to avoid the tour company's, we seem to get a more authentic experience that way. We got the contact details for this lady from the owner of Homestay Nam Hàm Luông which was an absolutely brilliant quiet little place to stay. Hit that subscribe button and check out more of our adventures.
Enjoy your trip my friend. Vietnam is a great place to visit and is very much in its tourism infancy meaning not everything will be perfect all the time. The plus side of this is many places are yet to be spoilt by 10's of thousand of tourists a week.

@@danoschannel hope it stays that way! Last question: did you use your own mode of transportation? Will GRAB bring me to this location ?

We did have our own motorbike Dezz, but GRAB would certainly take you there. Personally I would recommend hiring a motorbike for the extra freedom, go where you want, when you want; you can hire them in HCMC pretty cheaply, around $10 - $15 AUD per calendar day.
If you do take a bus or something like that down to Bến Tre, most homestays have bicycles available and with the Mekong Delta being so flat it is a great way to get around.
If you are hiring a motorbike yourself getting around is pretty easy, the road infrastructure is mostly good and the Vietnamese are mostly pretty good drivers. When travelling around Google maps (make sure you download offline maps) is a must and most importantly, stay hydrated 😉

You will be fine, it is a piece of piss. We spent nearly 2 months riding around all over Vietnam without any issues. Things are much slower over there. most traffic pokes along at 40 - 50 km/h.

I do believe the asking price would be of not much value considering the somewhat poor paddling technique on display.I should not be judgemental as perhaps you may be skilled in coconut production. 😉

@johnnothegreat8907 I didn't have much of a teacher when it came to paddling techniques and I guess the asking price was too high as I didn't end up getting sold...
