Homeless man had a nervous breakdown after his wife and daughter died.

  • In 2008, Mark's wife and daughter died, and shortly after he had a nervous breakdown. Mark then spent seven months in a hospital getting better. Mark then found out that no matter how legitimate a reason, that if you don't show up to work or pay your bills for several months, you lose everything!
    Mark then spent a year homeless. He got a job washing dishes at a deli and worked his way off the streets. Business slowed, and he ended back out on the streets again.
    Mark says that this time around he still has faith in himself, but he has lost faith in the system. Mark encourages us all to stand together because he says it's a human issue not a homeless issue. Mark believes that we all should have the basic essentials of a house and food, and I could not agree more.
    Mark is a kind and gentle soul. He is someone who has "slipped through the gaps of the safety net", and should have never ended up on the streets. Sadly, I hear stories like his often. We must do better in mental heath services and we most certainly need to keep people who are trying to get better from ending up on the streets, where many just get worse!

    About Invisible People:
    Since its launch in November 2008, Invisible People has leveraged the power of video and the massive reach of social media to share the compelling, gritty, and unfiltered stories of homeless people from Los Angeles to Washington, D.C. The vlog (video blog) gets up close and personal with veterans, mothers, children, layoff victims and others who have been forced onto the streets by a variety of circumstances. Each week, they’re on InvisiblePeople.tv, and high traffic sites such as UA-cam, Twitter and Facebook, proving to a global audience that while they may often be ignored, they are far from invisible.
    Invisible People goes beyond the rhetoric, statistics, political debates, and limitations of social services to examine poverty in America via a medium that audiences of all ages can understand, and can’t ignore. The vlog puts into context one of our nation’s most troubling and prevalent issues through personal stories captured by the lens of Mark Horvath - its founder - and brings into focus the pain, hardship and hopelessness that millions face each day. One story at a time, videos posted on InvisiblePeople.tv shatter the stereotypes of America’s homeless, force shifts in perception and deliver a call to action that is being answered by national brands, nonprofit organizations and everyday citizens now committed to opening their eyes and their hearts to those too often forgotten.
    Invisible People is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to changing the way we think about people experiencing homelessness.

      It happened to me. I had a breakdown, was in a hospital, then rehab. Ran out of short term disability thru my employer, lost my job, 8 months later, lost my apartment. Back in psyche hospital, then homeless. A family member, 2000 miles away, offered to let me stay with them. I lost my pets - they were my babies. I still had my car, but lost that when the bank finally found me - I drove to that family member, slept in my car while on the road. I now have a home with my family member. After 18 months, I now have a job. I struggle every day with severe depression, anxiety and PTSD. I am trying to get my life back, saving for my own apartment, but am scared that I will lose everything again.

      I work for a municipal government that gives its employees only 3 days of bereavement if the person who died is a cousin/aunt/grandparent, and 1 week for a closer family member such as a parent/sibling/spouse.
      Never quite understood how the employer can decide how long its employees should grieve. I've seen my own co-workers unable to focus on their job the week they come back, or on the verge of crying.

Just curious because Jesus came down from heaven to a sinful world to Save us,give us Salvation,even food,shelter and he was kind and helped anyone in need we should do the same for someone that is in real awful situations like Mark or someone that has been living in the streets for such a long time thats how they lose Hope,Faith that nobody will lend a helping hand,just reject them and thats not right because God,He sees everything ohh yes When we Pray for somone,our Acts of kindness,helping a homeless person or a stranger when it is needed.

    My heart really goes out to Mark. I hope he's doing better now. We live in a sick and twisted society where you're supposed to grieve the loss of your most important people for 3 days (paying thousands of dollars to shady funeral homes), and then go right back to work, fully functioning. The fact that this loss impacted him so dramatically tells you something about how much his family meant to him. Neil Peart (the drummer for Rush) lost his wife and daughter in the same year, too, and Rush ceased to exist for a few years while he recovered. But Neil could afford to bike and motorcycle around the world while he worked out his grief. Us grunt workers do not enjoy that luxury. Mark was forced to face the reality of a barbaric system that most people willfully remain blind to. I really do hope he's okay now.

      Gregg Powers It is not a matter of capitalism or communism. This is a dualistic view on ideology which is to simplify reality, not seldom used by politicians who seek support for either of these systems . This duality has worked wonders in America when it comes to keeping people from getting decent healthcare, education, and support from the state - because any support from the state has been labeled as socialism. Interestingly enough, the FED saved a number of investmentbanks in America during the financial crisis as they were "too big to fail". In other words, socialism is only applied in America when it comes to saving the rich - none is talking about socialism at that point. Furthermore, as you may know capitalism is a self-destructing mechanism which won't work forever, so, whether you like capitalism or not you better start thinking outside of "but look at North Korea" which is a poor excuse to not think for yourself and support a system which neglects humanity and the planet.

If the economic system which you applaud is so good, why do you not pinpoint what it does to the people portrayed in this series? Why do you talk about Cuba and Venezuela? If you want to compare it with a state which assumes a less market-liberal a.k.a libertarian-based system, why not compare the welfare-system in the U.S. with, say, Sweden?

      @2 MD One day there will be a better world. With none of this injustice and crime etc. There will be peace, love, kindness and compassion. Everyone will be treated fairly with no discrimination. No rich people or poor people. But it will not be brought about by any man made government. It is the promises of God Almighty as only He, through His Son Christ Jesus, can bring about peace and harmony to this earth . We people can't achieve peace or harmony as we are too weak and selfish.. The condition of this world and all the injustices show us that. But it won't be for much longer and all the greedy wicked people, murderers, pedophiles, criminals etc will be destroyed and only those with a good heart and law abiding citizens, who worship and obey God Almighty will be saved !
      They will live in a world that is filled with love, happiness, no sickness or pain with plenty to eat. Then there will be the world that God has promised us all if we repent of our sins and lead a life of kindness, obedience, compassion etc.
      The time is running out. Get to know the Only True God, pray to Him in Jesus name to help you to find and learn His Truth !
      You sound like a good person, I wish and pray for you that you get what is best for you ! Please be safe. Get to know God and learn about the promises he has for us . It will give you the hope you need !

There should be transitional assistance-food, shelter, medications, doctors/specialists assigned for after care with appointments, etc before they are released out onto the street.

      @Michael Sequerth probably not the best comment to be soapboxing on. Im an atheist and that's not nice to say. His God is judging our society, you cannot take that from him because it creates moral standards. A mutual hallucination one might say.

    • @Christian-ki5js
      @Christian-ki5js 4 роки тому +4

      @Michael Sequerth You can speak however you like. I am only asking to consider that understanding truth (which I still believe is objective as an atheist,) is far more important than the vessel which brings you to it (religion, spirituality or philosophy)
      Replace "God" with "ourselves" when asking "who judges this society" and it may answer something.
      It doesn't really matter if god or fate or just plain ol' random chance gets us to where we are - if we're all at each others throats in the world right now! Our society is being weighed and found wanting because of our choices. On Both Sides.

    • @Christian-ki5js
      @Christian-ki5js 4 роки тому

      @Michael Sequerth Are you happy with the world today? God is already dead no need to kick the dead horse. I'm not happy with the world today; I doubt many Democrats or Republicans are happy with the world today. I bet Europe is totally not happy with their world today... I don't need a god to tell me we've got some serious societal divides, but some people do. It's the same conclusion. You don't have to agree but I think they are 100% right.
