Part of me thinks that Hugo had no idea he was part of this thing. There is something in the way he reads it, and the way he lingers on that last line and pauses, then takes off his beanie and looks to the sky. He sounds like a guy who had his entire notion of self ripped out from under him.

I consider it similar to the alien entity in "Annihilation". Even though it's inflicting unspeakable horrors against us, it doesn't understand that we don't want its influence. They are elevated beings trying to "help" us, seeing us as we see an intelligent animal. Similarly, it genuinely thinks it's doing us a favor, completely ignorant to our fear and suffering, much like a human with ignorant yet good intentions trying to save an animal but doing it harm instead.
I loved the journal entry that “Heizo” wrote. It really reads like bait that an intelligent species of aliens would use to try to lure humans. All the phrases that state that there was enough food, or that the sky was clear or that the ship was clean and organized come off as if the Ningen had studied the humans and gathered what they desired and valued. It honestly reminds me of how we as humans interact with animals, especially when we’re either trying to hunt them or study them.

But then i realised that "ningen" means "human" in Japanese. This means 2 things. 1. We already know enough about these creatures to give them a name and entire department of study. And 2: We have seen many of them in the past, this was just the most notable instance.
What i think is going on: 1- Hugo was substituted by a Ningen, or was one this entire time and we didn't know(maybe even one of the Red humanlikes?) 2- Icarus achieved a new stage(Red humanlikes) in it's evolution via merging with Professor Zubov and probably with all of the crew members aswell. 3- When "Keizo" said he wanted to have children, he meant he wanted to reach his new evolutionary stage where he would be able to reproduce asexually. Maybe I'm over thinking about it, but the human-likes have the tree kanji (木) drawn as the shape of their pecs and abs. That kanji is also very special because two of them together become "Woods", and three of them "Forest". Is this another signal that those creatures are trying to populate the World?

The text at 3:09 seems to have "nn" and not "so", they are quite similar I guess but the japanese text says human factory. You can tell mostly by the angle of the smaller stroke.

Ok so I think that the only logical step that can follow from here is an inevitable spread. At the end of the chapter we started hearing a song about helping each other and how “teaching and sharing” is the best one can do, and if you remember at the beginning of the episode they talked about how they saw themselves as our saviors. So I believe that what we will probably see next is most likely their introduction to society. And how will they do that ? Through Hugo and his “son” of course

So what I'm getting from this is that the Ningen are like the Borg from star trek. It seems like the Ningens are either transforming humans into something else, or disguising themselves as humans. Judging by their deliberate use of the noun form of ПОМОЩЬ, they could see their actions as beneficial, they are providing aid to humanity by forcefully evolving them.
Here's a thought, there doesn't seem to be much of a reaction by the Russians about an entire research ship being lost in Antarctica. Since it seems the Professor Zubov was attacked by Icarus in like 1991. Could the reason be that because the incident occurred sometime during the collapse of the Soviet Union, the ship was just kinda forgotten about or not paid attention to due to the chaos back in Russia ?
This is by far my favorite series on your channel. The story telling is amazing and I love the concept of using cryptic and other creatures from folklore.

The Ningen aren't just evolving physically-they are also evolving mentally as well. they are able not only to understand culture but also the structure and power of myth (to an extent-they seem limited in emotional intelligence so far). they constructed the myth regarding the first Ningen going into the sea, and now this Ningen is detailing his own creation myth, so to speak. "I am ready to join civilization." don't know how often Alex looks through comments, but I'd love to ask if Octavia Butler's works influenced him at all. her xenogenesis trilogy and short story "broodchild" explore similar themes regarding evolution and going "beyond".
Man, I think the scores you make for all of your stuff is really under appreciated. It’s crazy how you can make these man made horrors beyond comprehension sound beautiful, but you definitely know how to do it.

i think the rectangle/portal is god, cause as shown by another ningen bursting from the first ones chest and they hold hands, symbolising adam and eve i think, but for Keizou's journal, what Hugo reads isnt really what was in the same style as the last time he read the journal, so i'm believing Keizou killed or died when he got lost, and the Keizou they brought back was actually an "Human"

Ok so I think that the only logical step that can follow from here is an inevitable spread. At the end of the chapter we started hearing a song about helping each other and how “teaching and sharing” is the best one can do, and if you remember at the beginning of the episode they talked about how they saw themselves as our saviors. So I believe that what we will probably see next is most likely their introduction to society. And how will they do that ? Through Hugo and his “son” of course

I concur! It might even be a mockery of the Biblical Adam and Eve story, since the second not-human comes out of the ribcage area of the first, and Eve was crafted from one of Adam's ribs.

So what I'm getting from this is that the Ningen are like the Borg from star trek. It seems like the Ningens are either transforming humans into something else, or disguising themselves as humans. Judging by their deliberate use of the noun form of ПОМОЩЬ, they could see their actions as beneficial, they are providing aid to humanity by forcefully evolving them.
Simultaneously looking forward to and dreading what's going to happen in 1993.

Here's a thought, there doesn't seem to be much of a reaction by the Russians about an entire research ship being lost in Antarctica. Since it seems the Professor Zubov was attacked by Icarus in like 1991. Could the reason be that because the incident occurred sometime during the collapse of the Soviet Union, the ship was just kinda forgotten about or not paid attention to due to the chaos back in Russia ?
This is by far my favorite series on your channel. The story telling is amazing and I love the concept of using cryptic and other creatures from folklore.

The Ningen aren't just evolving physically-they are also evolving mentally as well. they are able not only to understand culture but also the structure and power of myth (to an extent-they seem limited in emotional intelligence so far). they constructed the myth regarding the first Ningen going into the sea, and now this Ningen is detailing his own creation myth, so to speak.
"I am ready to join civilization."
don't know how often Alex looks through comments, but I'd love to ask if Octavia Butler's works influenced him at all. her xenogenesis trilogy and short story "broodchild" explore similar themes regarding evolution and going "beyond".

i think the rectangle/portal is god, cause as shown by another ningen bursting from the first ones chest and they hold hands, symbolising adam and eve i think, but for Keizou's journal, what Hugo reads isnt really what was in the same style as the last time he read the journal, so i'm believing Keizou killed or died when he got lost, and the Keizou they brought back was actually an "Human"
