    I finally choose my set of modifications from previous videos and implement them on my Chinese clone electric skateboard.
    End of the video includes a recap listing modifications in (a rough) order of priority. It turns out you only 'need' one modification...

      Hi Ed, thanks! Something to keep in mind, the series of 'Chinese clone board modifications' has come to an end, but it's not the end of my electric skateboard videos. :-)

      +Dr Circuit oh good, I will look forward to them :). Have you ever rode your skateboard down by the guided bus way? I'm going to do this on Monday.. the ground is really nice smooth Tarmac. Beautiful scenery and the footpath has lots of little slopes and dips. I'm going to see how far I can get on a single charge, then get the bus back

      I did this once and it's great fun as you can get up to top speed with few obstacles. Did you sort your battery problem?

      +Dr Circuit it's so fun! I have ordered a battery power pack from Alien, just waiting for it to arrive :) any luck getting a good cell from the old batterie?

    • @DrCircuit
      @DrCircuit  8 років тому

      Yup, and HUGE thanks for that! Your pack had a few bad cells but also a few good ones, so I took one from yours and replaced the bad cell in mine. This pack will eventually be my second pack for my main Chinese clone board, but at the moment it powers my 'Test Board', which I have also built up to a reliable Chinese clone board for use by friends. I think my next video will be about this board, a short 'Remember my Test Board?' type of thing...

      I'd lurve to see a video of your build if you can be bothered to make one?
      And I'm up for a meet. A few people have mentioned this, might be an idea of we all met on the same day and get a video of us on our boards...

    Firstly great video series on the chinese boards, very informative!
    I'am about to order one from Magneto and after watching your vids thinking about modding it before driving or just waiting until the parts are blown. (I'am around 100kg as well)
    My question now is, if its feasible to remove the original bms from the esc circuite entirely and just wire it between the charging port and the battery? Leaving the original esc directly connected to the battery (with a switch of course). Would that lead to the original esc going up in smoke imidatly because the bms throttles the current? Or might now only the esc been dying a slow death and i could still use the original charger?

    • @DrCircuit
      @DrCircuit  8 років тому

      Hi Rob, and thanks!
      You're thinking of leaving the BMS on board but wire it so it can only be used for charging and is removed from the current path while the board is in use, thereby removing all possibility of it blowing during a ride. Interesting question!
      I didn't do this myself because of the need to add another switch to the circuit (as I think you understand with your comment about another switch, you'll need to engage the BMS for charging, and disengage it while engaging the ESC when going for a ride). But yes, in principle this should work.
      The stock ESC is rubbish but the BMS being present or otherwise won't affect it's susceptibility to blowing (the ESCs fail more often than the BMSs).
      If you can sort the wiring and switch this is a good way to keep the BMS on board and use it just for charging.

    Hello,
    I've been kinda secretly watching your videos in the past few days now.
    I bought one of these for $715, and that is because I also received a 6 month European warranty for the product.
    The first day of using it and the battery life got 75% worse, so it only fully charges to around 25% - 30%. I'll be taking it to the store next week and getting a new one, but I've been so inspired by these videos you create.
    I would love to try out what you did with this board, but I never placed myself into the world of DIY in electronics, or even modifying motorized things.
    By the way, since I'm guessing you live in the US, then which state are you in? Or which country?

    • @DrCircuit
      @DrCircuit  8 років тому

      I live in the city of Cambridge in the UK. Lovely place.
      About learning electronics... it's an interesting subject but these boards are NOT the place to learn. The boards are actually quite simple in their construction but they contain Lithium batteries which can explode if not treated with respect. I myself managed to clumsily short out a power pack and a cell spewed smoke in front of me. And this could've been so much worse!

    • @JenkoVlogs
      @JenkoVlogs 8 років тому

      Dr Circuit The main reason I would like to learn it, is to upgrade the board with more powerful and expensive stuff!
      In my opinion, the board seems to be awesome, and I love how the design is thin and how it's build, but I can agree that there are things inside that could be better.
      I know you've spoken about the ESC quite often, and how that could be replaced, which I still don't know how to do haha.
      Anyways, would love to visit Cambridge, UK and meet you, have heard many great things about the city. Have been in Edinburgh two years ago and was better then expected.

      @DrCircuit  8 років тому

      Thanks! Ed (nice chap, commented on this video too) doesn't live far and occasionally visits Cambridge. If you do visit Cambridge it'd be a nice idea to meet up, and it'd make an interesting video to have us three electric board through the middle of Cambridge!

    VERY IMPORTANT FOR STOCK CLONE FLACON/LUOV BOARDS
    IF THE BOARD IS TURNED OFF WITH THE REMOTE STILL ON CRUISE CONTROLL for more than 20 min, THE CONTROLLER WILL DESYNC FROM THE BOARD.
    I LEARNED THE HARD WAY as you can only resync by disassembling the controller
    i had to carry it 2 miles...

    • @DrCircuit
      @DrCircuit  8 років тому

      Not true. You can resynch by doing the following:
      1. Make sure board and controller are all power off.
      2. Press and hold button “A” for 3 seconds, till see left indicator turned green.
      3. Press throttle C for one time, see the left indicator keep blink.
      4. Press button “B” for 10 times, see all indicator lights go off.
      5. Turn on the board, see controller indicators blink.
      6. Press throttle “C” for one time.
      7. Press button “A” for one time, run the board, check if the pairing is successful.
      I received the above instructions from LecDec ages ago and tried it on my boards successfully.

    • @NightFlyer
      @NightFlyer 8 років тому

      +Dr Circuit there is a bind button inside the controller, I didn't find any key combinations which will initiate the bind, but thanks for the tip. Though it is true that the board will unbind if the remote is kept on cruise control and the board is turned off.

    @stevekunoor 8 років тому

    I have a clone board as well problem I get is sometimes when you break , it stop s working and I have to turn the board off and resynchronize the remote again. have you ever experienced the same issue ?

    • @DrCircuit
      @DrCircuit  8 років тому

      Not sure what you mean by 'resynchronize the remote'. You mean you have to re-establish the Bluetooth connection? Merely turning the remote off and on again? Something else?
      If you mean a simple power cycle, then yes, all the time with the original ESC. The VESC? Never.

  • @edbray938

    Hey :)
    Im trying to decide which to pick.. the VESC or Alien ESC. do you think the VESC worth 3X the price of the Alien ESC?

    • @DrCircuit
      @DrCircuit  7 років тому

      Soz for delay. Both will do the trick, but the VESC has more configuration options, runs cooler, can be fine tuned to your riding style, etc.

    Hey mate, i just got this board and i love it, the esc did not blow yet but that might have to do with me being very lightweight.. I want to waterproof it and managed to seal everything except the vent hole at the bottom, any ideas on how to seal the vent hole, or if the vent is even necessary?

    • @DrCircuit
      @DrCircuit  8 років тому

      While using the original ESC the vent hole is indeed necessary. Having said that the original ESC is specced as 'water/splash proof'. However I don't know how reliable that statement is. If/when you upgrade to a VESC the hole won't be needed as the VESC doesn't need a fan drawing in air.

      Hey man, I got a Chinese clone board and I'm having a problem with it turning on. it's fully charged and when i first noticed it, it would turn on after a couple of times toggling the switch and now it just doesn't turn on any more. The weird thing is that when it's plugged in it turns on every time, it just doesn't stay on once I unplug it. Any ideas what the problem could be?

      Absolutely not. It cannot handle 6 lithium cells.

    • @TheFilledk

      +Dr Circuit okay thanks, do you Think if i disconnect the charger board, that the ESC Will hold better?

    • @DrCircuit
      @DrCircuit  8 років тому

      Sorry, I don't quite understand the question. Do you mean the ESC will 'last longer'? Or do you mean will the ESC 'handle more cells'? Or something else?
      Whatever the case, removing the BMS doesn't affect the ESC, but the BMS will be removed from the current path and therefore won't blow during a ride.
