For a long time all I could think about was having all the cap space next season and JJ @ QB. But I’m starting to think Darnold possesses such rare physical skills that you just can’t let him walk. Period!
Yes, Jones as backup and trade JJ who ranks higher than any QB in the 25 class. Min return would be a top 5 pick plus future one and other picks. Vikes would have 40 mil in cap space and two first round picks in the next draft including a top 5. Think all pro caliber DT or CB

Why, and what is wrong with you? You’re really kind of stick out and not in a good way. I’m just saying. And just so you know graduated from Minneapolis north went to the University of Minnesota.
I believe it should be done. But then they would have to either release or demote mullens to practice squad or something. Does Daniel Jones know the playbook good enough to do that if darnold gets hurt?
My hot take: In 2025 Daniel Jones will be pulling a Darnold and be the QB3 to JJ McCarthy’s QB2 with a Franchise tagged QB1 Sam Darnold. This will help develop McCarthy, rehab Daniel Jones to setup a 2026 big move into the next generation with JJ McCarthy as #1 going forward.

I believe they will keep Daniel Jones, waive the other two and groom DJ as the backup, with JJ in the mix. Those three would be awesome! Let Mullens go, same with Ripein. He MAY be a play away, we have no idea what work they have done with him. What IF Sam gets hurt AND Mullens gets hurt or ineffective, then what? I would take Daniel Jones over Ripein any day.
Normally I enjoy Judd's takes but who gives a crap about DJ, right now? And we aren't trading JJ, he is on a rookie contract, plain and simple. The real question is what the Vikes are going to do with SD? Franchise tag? Or a 3 year deal with 2 yrs gaurenteed, with an option of an out after one year... you drafted JJ so high.. But you cant let SD walk.. so at the minimum franchise him and DEFINITELY going to not trade JJ its so insulting to Kwesi to even think that bs.
They certainly should activate Daniel Jones. Does anybody seriously think that Nick Mullens (or Rypien) is a better backup than Jones? Assuming DJ has a decent grasp of the playbook, he should take the place of one of the current backups. This should happen before the playoffs, so if Sam gets hurt, Dan can step in. Even with limited familiarity of the playbook, the man has won a playoff game.
While JJM has been rehabbing for a year, he hasn't been on the sideline actually learning the ebb and flow of the game and getting that 1 year experience we were looking for when we signed Sam as our bridge. So I'm thinking that this situation is going to happen next season. JJM will be on the sideline, clipboard in hand, headset on head, learning. Now, whether it's Sam or Daniel playing while JJM watches, is up to the Vikings. The higher Sams cost to the team, the less we can do in free agency. We're losing a lot of players after this season, and $40 million can sign a boatload of free agents to bolster the team.
Solution? Restructure O’Neil and Hockenson. Now 60 mil in cap space. Sign Jones as backup. Trade JJ who ranks higher than any QB in this Draft class and get a top 3 pick plus our first and future picks and or a two for this year and draft a pro bowl caliber DT or CB

Don’t really get Vikings fans getting so attached to QB’s. A quarterback is only as good as the players around him, with one exception maybe being Mahomes. If Darnold chooses money over team then we don’t need another money grubbing QB. We have our future Qb in McCarthy, although I’m not completely on that ban wagon,I wasn’t completely on Darnold’s wagon either. I think we will be just as good with McCarthy as we are with Donald. It will be a big mistake for Darnold to go into the unknown even though he’s learned a lot, rolling the dice and going somewhere else could prove fatal! We can build a dynasty around McCarthy not sure we can around Darnold with a massive contract.
I think if things remain the way they are, Daniel Jones is going to be QB3 basically, but if Darnold goes down, god forbid, in the playoffs I think he'd be the starter.
I noticed that ESPN is saying that the Lions have a 65% chance to win the game Sunday vs 35% for the Vikings to win. The Vikings continue to get little respect.
I certainly believe in KOC but I also don't want the Vikings to get to cute and think they can now grab ahold of any QB and turn them into gold. Could they turn around Daniel Jones? It sure looks like it but I'd honestly like to see them just stick with Darnold and McCarthy next year and if Jones wants to stick around as QB3 then that's fine. Thor is gonna come on and say the same tomorrow, but at this point you tag and trade Darnold. Does anyone think, if this team doesnt win a superbowl this year, that theyre winning one with 40M less to spend next year? Then youd have to pay him long term or wave goodbye for a comp pick. If you trade him this off season, you get something near the value of a 1st round pick that can help to build around Mccarthy No team has ever won a superbowl playing it safe, so slam the foot on the gas and enter the Mccarthy era with as many new pieces as possible
This may be a hot take, but I still honestly think the Vikes are going to let Sam walk this offseason and I'm totally on board. I love Sam and depending on sunday night and how the playoffs go, I would love to see them run it back with many of the folks on this roster, but as Mackey would say "hear me out real quick!" This may sound crazy, but even if Sam and the defense plays lights out down the stretch to finally bring a Lombardi here to the cities AND they do not end up going with the tag/run it back or tag/trade situations. I'd totally be ok with letting him walk and continue the build around JJ, Jets, and the current core of the roster. I can see this administration continuing down the path they've alluded before since they would have succeeded in the competitive rebuild by winning a SB with a 'bridge/mercenary' QB, still having their 1st round pick with a bunch of cap the next couple of years, and their future young QB in the building who would arguably be one of the top picks in the 25' draft. This may allow for Kwesi and KO to keep the core of the roster with more of the pieces that helped them get this far and keep playing moneyball for the next round of FAs to fill the remaining (and shrinking) holes on the roster. It would be tough to see how the comp picks would pan out depending on who else would leave, re-sign, and new FAs that would be brought in. However for the sake of the take, I would be curious to see how the comp picks would work if Sam, Pat Jones II, Bynum, Gilmore, shaq griffin, cam robinson, and Mullins (QB2 or QB3) left to sign market average rates, assuming they kept some of the other players up for FA, and brought in a DJ Reed (high-end CB), a decent iOL and a decent iDL at market average rates. What does the PD crew think? Probably just the 4th cup of coffee talking, but winning the first SB in franchise history would be great (and hilarious) with a one year veteran QB considering the runs the vikings have made the last 30 years or so. However, with this franchise approaching some stability with a rookie QB, a QB/offensive centered HC, and a strong core of players in or entering their primes throughout the roster. It would be great for this team to finally have a franchise QB type of trajectory we've missed out on for much of my life (~35 yrs) outside of brief hope brought by Dante and Teddy. Thank you all for the vikings content! Love the show, and please... J1B4ID 🤞
Everyone is picking the lions to win. Like always!!! The Vikings are the underdog. I wouldn’t have it any other way. This is the game to show the world that this team is for real. Skol
What are you guys talking about? Sam is not going anywhere! You’re very silly to think so and all your bizarre speculation is even more crazy. Lol. Daniel Jones will be the back up next year here. JJ. McCarthy is probably gonna be traded. He could definitely get us a first round draft pick, no question about it. A team friendly deal will be made with Sam 100%
Franchise Sam...and keep JJ...and let the chips fall where they may... they're still in good shape... remember you can never have too many QBs... and they still have enough cap space to do damage next yr on the D... to let JJ go for basically equal value is insane... this should be the plan and reevaluate come next late season... only other option is if Sam would agree to a team friendly deal... say 2/3 yrs with cap hits on the back end... which many players have taken...a la Tom terrific... Sam may look at it as long as I'm making millions, this is my team... you never know 2/75, 3/105... and you still maintain a young(21 yr old) JJ... or he may even take over within that stint... best case scenario in my eyes... good problem to have to say the least!
Why on earth would Darnold not look to get paid after the season he gave the Vikings? And why would the Vikings not look to lock down a QB who gave them 14 wins, so far?
Hate to say it but the Eagles have to be higher then 5. Yes they beat a bad team last week and lost to the commanders, but they did it with 2nd and 3rd string QB's.
Dallas seems to be becoming the Colts--aging owner who is too involved in football decisions causing the team to become somewhat dysfunctional. Not as bad as the Jets or Panthers, but there is a very weird vibe in Dallas.
If The Vikings win a Superbowl if I was Sam I'd want the money hands down. If you've already won a Superbowl then why not negotiate a big payday. You know Kirk would do it. Shit Kirk would ask for big money after not even making the playoffs.
People on here acting like Daniel Jones is the next Steve Young. There is more than one reason that he flamed out in New York. Let's not anoint him as the heir apparent to anything until we see improvement over the fiasco of the last 2 seasons of his career. Judd has said before-- Jones owes most of his contract to the incompetence of Ed Donashell.
If you guys think that the Vikings are gonna let a 27 year old that came in and won 14 (maybe 15) games his first year with us just walk you’re delusional
Two years (or three years, if needed) $35M/year, $35M guaranteed (or $50M - $70M, if three years). JJ learns under Sammy D then we have a decision to make in a couple or few years. Keep Danny Dimes for tiny $$ since he is paid by NY and improve his skills then trade him next year for some picks. Do NOT trade JJ!
Sam, listen. Your success has been because of this Team and coaching staff paired with your skills. You may not find that elsewhere. Previously proven by jets and Carolina. Take a 2 yr deal, let jj learn and build an unstoppable team. Prove it over the next couple years, you will get a monster contract
Yes Danielle Jones came into our building in a playoff game and beat us AND our QB Case Kenum went into Washington Redskins stadium and beat Kirk Cousins so what did the Minnesota Vikings do let Case Kenum go and sign Kirk Cousins for a TON OF MONEY GO FIGURE that one out .
Lots of buzz about McCarthy being traded. Keep Darnold if you must, but there's no f-cking way in this reality you give up McCarthy. No way. His talent ceiling is huge. To compare, just as strong an arm as Darnold. Way better escapability and scrambling skills. Reads through progressions fast and gets the ball out. Throws on the run with accuracy and authority, which Darnold can't. Only a fool would let the future of the franchise go and keep Darnold and Jones.
Here’s my thought, if they make the championship and Darnold was a big part, carrying the team at times, and like a cb or dt or interior o lineman are exposed and are a few players away I’d be inclined to bring Sam back. Use the cap and draft to fill the few weaknesses. If he for some amazing reason brings the Vikings a superbowl trophy I’d let him hit free agency, why, got the superbowl before we die! Why now pay a lot to a qb that might take away from the depth and just build it up around JJ and let Kwesi and KOC do their thing!
I don't think I've been this confident about the outcome of a game all year. I just believe that the Vikings are going to win this week.

This may sound crazy, but even if Sam and the defense plays lights out down the stretch to finally bring a Lombardi here to the cities AND they do not end up going with the tag/run it back or tag/trade situations.
IMO. People who don’t eat enough meat and eat excess carbs, have dental problems.
Sugar, too; cuases constant inflamation in the body and leads to virtually every chronic illness people get. Truly a poison.
Happy Skol New Year
Franchise Sam...and keep JJ...and let the chips fall where they may... they're still in good shape... remember you can never have too many QBs... and they still have enough cap space to do damage next yr on the D... to let JJ go for basically equal value is insane... this should be the plan and reevaluate come next late season... only other option is if Sam would agree to a team friendly deal... say 2/3 yrs with cap hits on the back end... which many players have taken...a la Tom terrific... Sam may look at it as long as I'm making millions, this is my team... you never know 2/75, 3/105... and you still maintain a young(21 yr old) JJ... or he may even take over within that stint... best case scenario in my eyes... good problem to have to say the least!
No Turnovers
Why on earth would Darnold not look to get paid after the season he gave the Vikings? And why would the Vikings not look to lock down a QB who gave them 14 wins, so far?
"Sammy the Storm" has been a fantastic addition to the Vikings! Lions, " Sammy the Storm" is coming for you!!!
Oh God, not yet another sponsor 🫣
If The Vikings win a Superbowl if I was Sam I'd want the money hands down. If you've already won a Superbowl then why not negotiate a big payday. You know Kirk would do it. Shit Kirk would ask for big money after not even making the playoffs.
I only have 2 wisdom teeth, I remaining is calcified and will never come in. The other hasn't come in and im 50
We need more of Dex’s science minute
Reichard missed a 58 yard field goal, not easy for anybody to make!
Why is Judd always scared of other teams. I am sure they’re worried about us
😊
I mean, we need him on the roster if we’re going to get a pick from him. Even if he stays, he can’t be worse than Brett Rypien.
If the Broncos lose, the Bengals also need the Dolphins to lose or the last spot goes to Miami.
I think Sam is gonna go, one way or another. D.Jones will be the Starter next year while JJ gets healthy and some reps....
JJ is already “healthy”
It was only a meniscal tear not some catastrophic knee blowout
If you guys think that the Vikings are gonna let a 27 year old that came in and won 14 (maybe 15) games his first year with us just walk you’re delusional
@@Yamchas-corpse yeah we do
Purdy injured his elbow again with potentially some nerve damage. He's asking for a minimum of $52 million per season.
Yikes
Sam back to the 9ers ?
Jones is better than Mullins and the other guy so I hope he's activated
No phil! Yeeeees
Happy Samuary.
Per Google. Darnold will have earned $65,253,948 from his NFL contracts alone.
So he has generational wealth.
i bet he's not greedy like kurt
This is such a weird question to ask when Sam is playing for the number one seed in the conference.
Washington Commies are good enough to spoil some team in the playoffs
If Darnold leaves, that would be quite the camp battle ..... Jones v JJ.
jj would win but jones would be a nice backup
@@OliverPantsoffJones would win.
HNY people, heres to a good 2025 for you all n vikings!!
Only a fool would let the future of the franchise go and keep Darnold and Jones.
it's cute when you pretend you are a vikings fan
Here’s my thought, if they make the championship and Darnold was a big part, carrying the team at times, and like a cb or dt or interior o lineman are exposed and are a few players away I’d be inclined to bring Sam back. Use the cap and draft to fill the few weaknesses.
If he for some amazing reason brings the Vikings a superbowl trophy I’d let him hit free agency, why, got the superbowl before we die! Why now pay a lot to a qb that might take away from the depth and just build it up around JJ and let Kwesi and KOC do their thing!
