My favorite Purple Man moment in the comics is when Doctor Doom captured him and put him in a power draining field. Purple Man basically said "You know, if it wasn't for this cell, I could just end you right here." And Doom turns off the cell and takes off his mask to prevent any protection against him. Purple Man told him to kill himself, and Doom just stares at him, completely unfazed. And Purple Man just freaks out. I love that so much, it's why Doom is my favorite Marvel villain
What comic is that?
@@rickyrackx8928 Avengers #27- Emperor Doom
@@rickyrackx8928 - It is from The Emperor Doom Graphic novel.
Despite the inconsistent depiction of Zebedia Killgrave's powers the way that he was used in this event was good. This event went in a good direction.
I agree
He's strong enough to break apart animatronics, so I'd say he's pretty strong
He also has the power of lean on his side
@@keoniflow2019 god I love lean
He has stalemated Captain America before. KP is a UNIT that does not get enough credit
Not to mention he literally survive multiple fire 'accident' and still being the main villain in the lore.
He has straight up overpowered super strong foes like Spider-Man, Captain America, Red Skull, Black Panther and a Dr. Doom replica. He's dominated mother truckers like Scorpion, Tombstone, Hammerhead and Dr. Octopus. So it's very safe to say Kingpin is a powerhouse.
Daredevil being in charge the Hand-adjacent. A street level epic event. Yup....Zdarsky did the impossible: He wrote a good version of Shadowland.
Stop. Following. Me.
As Alan Morre has said, read bad stories as motivation for good ones. "I can right better that this sh*t"
Sorry, Rob. In Bendis’ new Avengers run, the reason why Cage was able to snap out of Killgrave’s control was because the food Killgrave was eating was damping his powers (I think the prison guards laced the prison food with power dampers). So Killgrave couldn’t use 100% of his powers at the time. Still love you, though lol.
In Breakout, Luke Cage said Killgrave was drugged out of his mind to keep his powers under control. That’s not to say Cage’s will hasn’t grown sense then, but that’s just what happened.
Yeah it's really a bit of a stretch.
Plus, Luke has had more than his fair share of interactions with Killgrave. If anyone is going to be enraged enough to resist his mind control it would be Luke and Jessica.
@@OverworkedITGuy Will power is like a superpower in Marvel. When you start passing it out to everyone it becomes as useless as the worthiness enchantment on Thor's hammer.
In other words, incredibly bad writing.
@@sirellyn only if used haphazardly and with no purpose or historical justification.
In the case of Luke and Jessica, it makes absolute sense given their repeated intensive and exceedingly long history specifically with Killgrave for them to begin to develop resistance to his control. Jessica already has it for the most part due to the combination of having the most prolonged constant exposure to his control than any other person on the planet (he had her under his direct control and in his presence 24/7 for literally years) and the psychic barriers put in place by Jean Gray initially and bolstered by Emma Frost later after the last major one on one antagonistic interaction the family had with him. The last time they were actually successfully controlled it required a special concentrated serum made from Zeb's pheromones and blood injected directly into them for it to work. (See Jessica Jones: Purple Daughter).
And Luke has proven repeatedly to be able to resist somewhat due a combination of repeated exposure (because Zeb just will not leave them alone), his absolute love for Jessica and Danielle, and his near infinite levels of unfiltered hatred for Killgrave specifically (exceeded only by his wife's hatred for the man). It's not 100% but it's usually enough to make it possible for him to resist enough to give whoever Killgrave tries to get him to attack an advantage they wouldn't have against any other super under mind control. And every time it happens, Luke has shown to be able to resist Zeb more and more.
While Luke wouldn't be able to really hold off any other person's psychic or biological mind control, a special case for the Cage/Jones can be easily and reasonably made where Killgrave and the Purple Children are concerned.
Wolverine's will power is something that was built up over a couple hundred years worth of mental reinforcement from being a stubborn SOB. If the Doc Oc Wolverine acquired his abilities within the last couple decades, even if he was stubborn himself, he does not have the practice the real Wolverine has. Also Doc Oc focuses on tech, while Wolverine focuses on how to push through anything and anyone to get to his goal.
Didn't wolverine in some movie get mesmerized and enslaved by a woman? Not sure if it happened in the comics..Kayla Silverfox was a mutant with the power of tactohypnosis, an ability that caused her to hypnotize and persuade anyone she made physical contact with. She was also the sister of Emma and the former lover of Wolverine.
@@darthronin It takes a lot to take over wolvies mind. He has mental blocks put in place so he can resist omega level telepaths, as well as just being a stubborn sob that comes with living as long as he has. Those that have managed to take over his mind have only managed to do so for a short time. And those that lose control eventually need to run as he will be pissed off and gunning for them. Movies are generally non cannon to earth 616
@@darthronin I thought her powers were only able to calm him down?
Been forever since I saw that movie though
@@darthronin I don't think her powers worked on him. It was just the classic "convince him to fall in love with you" orders she got from Stryker. Her powers definitely didn't work on Sabertooth in the movie and he and Wolvie usually have the same abilities.
The reason I think Wolverine WOULD fall under Killgrave's control is that Killgrave has a natural advantage. Wolverine can smell, track, pick up on stuff to an extra sensory, animalistic degree. If Killgrave works off pheromones, then it should be EXTRA effective on Wolverine than others
Plus, Logan has a history of being a sleeper agent or brainwashed by Weapon X Program or Apocalypse
Devil's Reign is a very good story, Rob is right about that, I will also say this if I had to rate Devil's Reign and Dark Ages...
I would have Devil's Reign an 8/10 and Dark Ages 6.5/10. And in reality Devil's Reign is setting up a fight between Daredevil and Punisher.
Personally, I find this insane. Dark ages imo is 7 and this is a 6. This assuming that a 5 is a normal comic
@@bigbardvodsthat's fine. Again this is just my opinion on a rating for both marvel events and sometimes my rating is not the same as others.
If you enjoyed Dark Ages more than Devil's Reign that's okay I believe everyone has their own personal favorite.
Dark Ages was good but definitely had potential to be SOo MUCH better
@@desmonides - Is Dark Ages in 616 , or is it a future/alternate reality story?
@@matthewschwartz6607 Earth 61616
It feels like Joseph may end up being a future McGuffin akin to Franklin Richards. Like, any time they have a really op enemy they dig up Joseph to just dominate their mind.
15:13 Man, I wish Bane was like that in more comics
The other inconsistency is that he'd never be able to exert control over anybody who is too far away to breath in the pheromones. So his influence could never be extended far enough to influence a street of people, let alone a city. The Purple Man's kryptonite is literally a strong gust of wind.
Weren't his powered enhanced in the last part?
@@protalghulnist4126 yea but how much can you enhance body odor
@@ahmadday64 you def ain't from NYC and been on a dirty subway like the 2 I took to get to high school for 4 years, or getting into the wrong cab.... YOU WILL BELIEVE ODOR CAN BE OP'd!!!
@@masterrserch3971 alot when it's comics you're talking about
@@protalghulnist4126 It's hard to say how his powers were enhanced. Does he produce more pheromones so the concentration is higher allowing for them to spread further before being too diluted? Are the pheromones more potent? Or does Kilgrave have sparkles of pink fairy dust shooting from his arse because the enhancement have nothing to do with the pheromones?
How can you see:
"I want you to think about all the lives you've destroyed"
"I - - I.. Oh God... Done"
"You... you... /He's evil./"
And come away thinking "Kingpin can overcome the power of the Purple Man"
And not thinking "He thought about it and just does not care about the lives he ruined"?
If Wolverine had strong willpower, he would be able to stop his berserker rages and murder tendencies.
Wilson Fisk better come back. He was such a great actor for the role.
Hes a fictional character not an actor that plays himself
@@Nob911 I meant the actor Vincent D'Onofrio that portrayed Wilson Fisk of course.
Hot DAMN what a story!. Also, can't wait for Vincent to take back up the mantel. He is THE definitive King Pin for me now.
He already has, getting kind of confused with several comments saying they are excited for him to eventually be added into the MCU. They did it already with the Hawkeye series
@@chrisgodfrey1880 LoL, no one watched that hot garbage, including me after 2 episodes. I mean I can't wait until he's back FOR REAL, in something GOOD. And not just a, hey here's the dude reference.
I listened to the whole Devil's Reign series while working "And man!! Let me tell you!" 😂
Zebedia kilgrave’s power is insane.
The original daredevil run was the very first comic I read as a kid. 9 year old me was absolutely obsessed with my uncles collection from the 60's/70's. I'm loving this story.
This one of the better stories from Marvel in the past 2 years. I do wonder if Fisk will set up shop in a non-extradition country and at the same time become a boss in Madripoor... because Emma Frost still hasn't wrecked him yet.
Easily one of the best comic book events in recent years.
I really liked this story, but purple man needs a power boost or something, too many people have an immunity to his attacks. As a non physical combatant he needs a bit more umph.
Whatever happened to his daughter?
The purple man is everywhere now lol his powers naturally make a story more interesting
When Fisk returns it's probably going to be either titled return of the kingpin, or hail to the kingpin.
I have really enjoyed (your coverage of) Devil's Reign. It has been amazing.
Wolverine has highlighted senses so pharmones should be a weakness for Wolverine. Just like spaying mace or loude music should hurt his nose eats more . Yes his senses help him track better but they have drawbacks. And yes the mace happened to him in first 10 issues of Wolverine
There is also an omega issue coming out and I hope you also cover the woman without fear tie in!
After this event I would love to see a new Luke Cage ongoing!
"DR OCTOPUS WOLVERINE" "OTTO HOWLETT" make me burst out laughing
I have to admit I never read DD, but this was a good run! Elektra as DD had me all confused, but I like it. She Hulk being straight Cake again...I'm for that as well.🤣
3:03 Fisk killed Matt, did I hear that right (I assume a misspeak)? 18:32 is that a hue of purple on Fisk's face or just my display showing the mottling of a black eye? If Fisk has retained a FRACTION of Killgrave's ability due to long-time exposure and usage that would make him extremely dangerous, with or without his old network of contacts.
Great video as always, looking fwd to the next :)
Can somebody inform me on something. So at some point I believe DD had a sidekick that could turn invisible. Who is that character and where are they?
I like the fact that the offer Kingpin was made too was basically your typical Presidential offer lol
Man 2 stories now where one character (Apocalypse in Dark Ages and Kingpin in here) pimp the hell out of the Purple Man.
12:47 for a second I thought this was the return of HydraCap.
rob your the best man you really got me into comics man
11:00 Luke cage didn't negate purple man's powers from straight willpower. There was a power dampening device in the Raft prison.
Between Devil's Reign and Dark Ages, Marvel just finished up 2 pretty fantastic stories.
Ah yes, storybook ending, villain and his damsel ride off into the sunset
If wolverine had a heightened sense of smell, maybe he would be more sensitive to odor-based attacks like that?
Great story. Any chance we'll get the tie ins next?
Since no one else is here yet to do it I’m gonna do the first one the man went behind the slaughter
King Pin is pretty cool in this run. Then again, I haven't been following his story that much.
The thing is when Matt used the staff on Wilson, it DID work. He told Wilson to think about the lives hes ruined, Wilson just didnt care. Hes just evil.
Punisher is leading the Hand atm and so Daredevil vs Punisher soon!
I don’t know why but I’m getting major Team Rocket/Geovani vibes at the end of this lol.
I'm a 90s spiderman boi. Fisk has always been a spiderman villian for me
He's both, including a Punisher villain. That's the beauty about Marvel Comics, everything is interwined.
Their is no inconsistency he used his kids to boost his ability.
@Trouble man. In the past, his children had to be united to overtake their father but.....just having one child.......I don't think so.
0:52 ..."The same weak ass will power"
Beyond super omega level: Bob Layton’s epic Hercules story!………..not really, but it’s fun.
Electra costume probably the dopest I seen not the biggest fan based on the show/movie bt she killing it with the new swag
I can't believe they ran two separate stories with the purple man at the same time. I always thought of him as small potatoes
If only we could get a cross over where The Hand fights the Foot Clan lol.
As a very casual comics fan, Doc Oc becoming Wolverine sounds incredibly random.
"Woolv-RAIN"
😂
This. Was. Awesome!
Posted 7 minutes ago. I was hoping Rob would post today!
I'm an American living in Munich, im trying to spread the great gospel of brother Rob. Keep shining bro💯
I would love to see Purple Man depicted on screen someday.
I believe he was on a marvel Netflix shoe about Jessica Jones. It was an okay story as far as I remember.
@@Fure2 David Tennant as Killgrave was arguably the best part of the entire show.
The first season was pretty good. The second season didnt do as good of a job building up typhoid Mary and fell a bit flat.
Lol, it already did. He was the villain in Jessica Jones show. It just that since the series try to be realism, the Purple Man just look like a normal average dude instead of full on purple skin
Cinematic rule number 1 if u dont see death on screen thy are not dead yet
Man, let me tell you something. I like the new logo rob.
Im looking forward to DD's organization and Shang Chi's 'Five Weapons Society' teaming up...win.
I thought Killgrave's powers were just blatant mind control? Is it a "sometimes it's pheromones, sometimes it's mind control, depends who's writing" kinda thing, or?
I thought it was a mix of both
It's pheromones, but it controls people in such a way that to others it looks like mind control
Kara Killgrave is showing up in Jim Zub's heroic Thuderbolts in May. Maybe they'll do a little follow up with Joseph there.
You didn't even mention that punisher will be leading the hand now and DD and Electra gotta go up against him
Greatness you should definitely do the full Daredevil story
This whole story seems to sum up as a contingency plan for Kingpins unintentional retirement (albeit likely temporary😅)
Beyond Omega Level: Popeye the Sailor Man
FOR LORD SCHNITZEL:
ROB JEFFERSON, HEAR OUR CRY
BEYOND OMEGA LEVEL MANDRAKK THE DARK MONITOR
They should send the kid to Strange Academy. He’s not exactly magical but I think he’d fit in nicely.
Agreed
I think the story was great and you should definitely cover the superior 4 tie-in where doc oc meets doc oc doom
So it’s gonna be daredevil and Elektra vs the punisher going forward
You rule Rob! Thanks for the videos!
the art is so good in this book
Devil’s Reign was INCREDIBLE! And yes, we will see W.F. in the MCU! AND!... Now that Attorney at Law Matt Murdock is officially in the MCU, the posibilities are endless!!! I'm super stoked and I hope you guys are too!!!! Much love to: The one, The Only, The Great Rob Jefferson for making this wonderous video!

Between this and Dark Ages, Purple Man has really been having a comeback recently!
POV: You are fighting the man behind the slaughter
Not sure if this is gonna be read but can you do a video on Pitt from image comics? He’s dope af and was hoping you had a video on him
I must say, Devil's Reign was an *Incredible* story!! Definitely one of Marvel's best, hands down 💯
Imma have to look up Fisk because idk how being big makes you fight on par with spiderman let alone daredevil trying 2 kill
Yeah Rob I wouldn't bet on that new Daredevil show being mature at all.
Ayyyyyeeee Rob Jay Z got something going on the irredeemable movie we need some irredeemable videos
Oh, forsure it’s going to be a Mature Rating, the other day Disney+ updated and now asks and offers restriction settings past R rating and up to TV-MA. Plus with that came basically the rest of the Entire Disney Movie Vault/Catalog.
Favorite channel.
Thanks for the video
Mike Murdoch was the Neji of the Marvel Universe.
I'm confused as to how Elektra and Matt found the Kingpin and Mary after Fisk killed "Matt.". Huh?
I disagree that Wolverine should not get ensnared. Pheromones were used again him in the live action movie Wolverine to increase his aggression and he fell right into the trap bringing his claws out. You could also point to his interactions with Jean Grey while Scott Summers was dating her though he only seemed mildly aggressive though quite under control. The first example is more of a what if Poison Ivy fought Wolverine type of case. He would be flooded with chemicals above the normal levels he would normally experience. If she wanted to she could hypnotize Wolverine turning him into a mind slave. I do agree he would have some resistance to it. Though, I can also see him becoming a mind slave for a time then eventually snapping out of it.
What ever happened with Purple Woman? She is Purple Man's daughter that ran around with Alpha Flight.
I would love to see hulk vs sebastian shaw.... I feel like that would be such an insanely epic fight, The angrier halt gets the stronger he gets the more he pummels Shaw the More power Shaw absorbs!
That breakout story line it's also mentioned that he was lowkey drugged so purple man's powers were not where they were at lol
@comicsexplained could you react to the Death Battle between Scarlet Witch & Zatana? I know that’s not your usual content, I’m just curious what you think about it.
Purple Man makes sense to be the main villain of Civil War if they treated it as so,let’s say redoing the Ultimate Marvel Universe and introducing characters slowly.Purple Man under his real name would be apart of the government and serving under the President by was also working for H.Y.D.R.A as a H.Y.D.R.A agent.DareDevil would be someone who could resist the Purple Man as his enhanced senses gives him leverage,Punisher would be someone who would be working for the Purple Man after being controlled by Purple Man to reek havoc which leads to the government deciding to outlaw superheroes,Ben Reilly(Scarlet Spider) would be mind controlled by Purple Man and sent to assassinate the crime bosses of New York being SilverMane and KingPin,Black Widow would be activated to assassinate Captain America through her mind control and brainwashing by the Red Room.
Beyond omega level invisible woman
Brightburn Request👿Beyond Omega Level: Kulan Gath!
I really appreciate the fact that Marvel comics is using obscure characters with more consistency recently. Luke Cage, Jessica Jones, Kamala Kahn, Nova, She-Hulk, etc. I remember the time when Marvel basically played it "safe" and recycled the same roster for practically EVERYTHING 😩
Kilgrave in the Jessica Jones Netflix show is the best villain marvel has had
Wolverine should be especially susceptible to pheromones since he’s almost feral his sense of smell is so heightened he would have no power to resist
Jubilee is low key an omega level mutant.
Hey Rob could you please do some power scaling between DC characters Trigon, Darksied, and a Chaos Lord like Klarion, who’s the strongest
Oh boy, I pray that Disney keeps Daredevil and others like it mature, I don't want a repeat of Deadpool pg13 edition
