    I love how so many comments are trashing on this guy saying he could have given money to the needy. I wonder how much those hypocrites waste on going to the theater, sporting events, buying a coffee every day, living in a bigger house than they need, buying up the latest technology in cell phones, televisions, weight training equipment, cars, surround sound equipment, dining out, etc. Until you are giving much of your money away, don't trash on someone who didn't give his away.

Food, buildings, developing new technology and helping better the world as a whole. But i couldn't in my right mind imagine spending that much on a fucking boat that isnt even that nice. The reason so many people have issues with this is because there are people all over the world who work everyday just to get by then this asshole buys a boat that never gets used.

If I were a rich businessman I imagine I'd be someone who knew a thing or two about money and could appreciate it's value. He ain't getting his money's worth on them 40k knobs. A lot of people will call it a crime for one man to have so much wealth when so many are so hungry. Ithink the real crime is frivolity. It's wasteful and arrogant.

      DanTheDragonslayer Most of those Russian billionaires are just front men for powerful cartels and cliques. They are allowed to live like billionaires, but in the end they are just there so the guys who really control the money in Russia can hide behind them.
      Also, even if he were a "self made" billionaire, he would have made his money using formerly state owned, rusty old equipment he didn't need to buy or build, to suck oil and/or gas out of the ground. Why should someone like that have an understanding or appreciation for the money he has? It isn't as if he would have come up with great ideas and worked hard to create something new, like people like Bill Gates.
      The way those oligarchs and the people behind them became billionaires was that when the Soviet Union collapsed, the formerly state owned companies were just given to the people who worked there. When that happened, smart, weaselly crooks visited those people at home, made them drunk and made them sign their shares in the companies over to them and those workers who refused to do so, were blackmailed and intimidated.
      That is how small time crooks, nobody ever had heard of before, suddenly ended up being the owners of formerly state owned Russian oil, gas and mining companies.
      They also never invested any money in the infrastructure of those oil fields and gas wells and all that. They still use the rusty, old equipment that was there when they stole the companies.
      I'd be surprised if those "business men" even were able to find the oil or gas fields they "own" on a map.

However, all the people complaining about "wasting" all that money and doing better by giving it to the poor or charity really don't understand how economics works. They don't think of all the people employed to build it or design it. Manufacture the 1000s of parts. Ship those parts. Refine and ship the fuel to run it. The $ it costs to dock it at a marina which pays their employees salaries. The employees it takes to operate it. Insurance, which employs the insurance co's staff. Maintenance on it which employs dozens more people.

    Gotta say the design looks pretty ugly and poorly thought out. The exterior design leaves much to be desired and there is hardly anything you can really do on the deck other than sit in a little spa. Not to mention it looks like its much easier for water to flood the deck and go down into the corridors of the ship and ruin the interior.
    I get that this guy wanted to make something that looked like a submarine, but there is a reason why subs are designed to be in such a shape and ships are not. Subs are meant to sink into the ocean. For ships, Not so much...

    Saw this yacht up close in Moorea and Bora Bora, two years ago. Pretty impressive to say the least. With its unique design you can't help stopping and staring. My wife and I went to dinner at Mai Kai Bora Bora in Vaitape and ended up sitting a table over from Mr. Melnichenko, his wife and their maltese. Caught a good glimpse of the tender parked at the dock after dinner. Very cool, inside and out! Like a piece of jewelry.

    This very impressive mega yacht was moored in San Juan Bay, Puerto Rico for a very long time, before the Covid-19 pandemic. Word of mouth was that it was undergoing extensive maintenance/upgrade work. There’s very little doubt that it’s presence was a “good enough reason” to take a drive to the Old City. The first thing that caught my attention was, besides it’s outstanding beauty, the name on it “A” (as if it needed anything else to catch your attention).

      Back them animal rights weren't that strong, and there weren't much regulations regarding use of animal skin. Can't look at things retrospectively and complain. That way US, UK, FRANCE and RUSSIA have been the major contributors towards environmental degradation, yet they act as the facilitators of environmental activism today, pointing fingers at other countries who are doing what they did years back. So yeah I'm conclusion you can't really comment on his use of wealth, they way he did back then. Cheerio

    Good for partying, and elite get-togethers. Although, if it were up to me, I would've spent the $300 million on building a luxury full-size (830 ft) rigid airship (or a "Zeppelin"" as some people would call it) A helicopter pad on top "might" work too... When I'm not using the airship for special events/parties, etc, , I could have it in commercial use, for chartering, etc., to help promote the idea and use of big rigid airships again. I suppose if I could afford the $300 million for the airship, I could also afford another $100 million for a good modern, well staffed shed/hanger facility.. I bet if I did this, I could sell more airships, than that Russian guy could sell more luxury yatchs. I'd show up at that Farnborough Airshow the night before, with all airship's light on, and shuttle VIP's back and forth in the chopper, for walk-through tours of the airship. I think I'd probably fill my quota of orders and serious prospects, to keep the airship building shop busy for a while.

      +MurphMonkey..A way modern one. -Nothing much flammable except for fuel. Of course, when there's a fuel fire, it tends to destroy about everything anyway (what doesn't burn, melts), At least that's how it goes for many conventional aircraft crash fires.

    • @Deurlaus
      @Deurlaus 7 років тому

      Zepplin fuel doesn't have to be flammable. The Hindenburg and other German Airships at the time only used Hydrogen because the US trade embargo stopped them from getting the Helium they needed to mix with the hydrogen and prevent it from being as Flammable. Modern airships could even use carbon fibre vacuum chambers and get even more lift, with no flammable gas at all.
