It's a bit convoluted to do with 3 separate plugins. Ideally, 'Splitter' should simply have Mid/Side added to its split mode options. This would make life so much easier for those of us who need M/S.
@@andrish Easy! Anything on the left split will be 'Mid' and anything on the right split will be 'Side'. Everything is then automatically consolidated back to stereo AFTER the two split lines. No need for any extra plugins...👍
@@ShynAwkward yeah you are right! Don't know how I missed that. Then Joe Gilder mentioned that a 3db increase is needed for each mid/side convertion, would the splitter do this as well? Pure speculation, maybe presonus find it too messy.
@@andrish - "Pure speculation, maybe presonus find it too messy" Nothing is more "messy" than the current implementation. The 3dB is not an increase, it's just to maintain unity gain - (this should be automatically added whenever Mid/Side is selected). It's so simple even IK Multimedia can do it...
Best thing to do IMHO is to follow this information, and build yourself a Mid/Side EQ FX chain. That way you will always have all these steps and plugins loaded as soon as you click the FX chain insert on the selected track. It is a lot to do for m/s use, I agree 100%. I hope Presonus adds M/S to the stock EQs and compressors in a future update, it would save everyone from having to build their own chains.
This Splitter is great. On most of the video I am watching, we need it. However, I don't have the Professionnal version. My version does not have it. I don't have it. Very frustrating... :(
I had already heard of Mid side, but did not understand what they meant by side (I always thought which side it was, the left or the right side). Because side literally translated to Dutch. means 1 side, is the left one or the right one? but if it were called "mid sides" then there are 2. haha 😆 how a language can cause confusion. thx 4 the vid.
I guess the functionality is cool but way to sloppy. Plenty of great plugins out there that have midside encoding built in with way more options for processing.
Would be so cool if Presonus made the routing/splitter screen more like Patcher from FL, it would allows for easier routing and more flexible effects chains, also being able to save these in presets uwu
Hi Joe, I've very recently purchased Studio One and going through the motion of learning to record Acoustic guitars. I don't get why you chose a single track recording. Is splitting a single stereo track which had multi mics better than 2 tracks with individual mics for mid side. RE: A single guitar. Hope you find this.
This is cool, but C'mon Presonus. We live in a world of Mid/Side EQ's - less convoluted and less mouse clicks. There's no way I'd set all of that up when any number of 3rd party products does it out of the gate within a single window (FabFilter Pro-Q being among the best). I'd gladly use the built-in Pro EQ instead if Mid/Side was added.
Hey, Joe, I went through the Masterclass of this you did earlier, but looking at this video I was just wondering...is it better to use this as an insert on a track in a Project in S1, or in Post on the Mains in a .Song? Or does it not really make any difference? So far I've used it on the opening song in a project I'm working on, but I put it in Post on the Mains of that .song rather than in the Project itself. It's really making that song sound great (and punchy)!
No, Artist does not have the splitter. I'm on S1 Artist 6. If it did, I'd try M/S with it myself. However, some of my 3rd party effects plug-ins, EQs and compressors, have M/S on them. Several of my Waves plug-ins have it, and both of my Pulsar plugins, Mu and Massive have it.
I don't know... Not trying to be a jerk. But "out of the box" implies that you activate, open, or add a single solution and all of the settings are included to do something. This does not seem to be the case in the slightest with this setup. I am not stating this to ridicule, but to bring attention to a feature which Presonus should consider adding to its mix or FX options... being Mid/Side "native" tool.
Having a direct m/s mode on the splitter would be great, instead of all this. Great video btw.
Wish they'd just add a bypass button on the splitter so we can AB the effects. Come on Presonus
Good idea for development. You should send it to Presonus not only through a UA-cam comment.
@@nedim_guitar I have done that long ago on the forum and even garnered votes for the ticket. Still nothing. It's just desperation posting on YT

I see your point! And I thought about the same thing Although, how how the splitter know when to re-merge mid and side signal paths?

This is cool my online teacher
This is so cool …I’m so proud to be a sphere member. I learn something new everyday from Studio One Professors 🙂
Joe this video finally explains what I call 3D mixing, Many thanks
We need MS feature in Pro EQ
THIS. And Multiband

That song sounds amazing for it being mixed many ears ago :)
Excellent as always! Thank you so very much!

hope they will make the midside plugin free for artist version. or add it as a feature in proEQ3. left/right- mid or sum.
Is there a way to have a plug in hit mono only on a master bus?
could i use this with Southern Rock/Counry Music
btw way for anyone one that wants to know this also works with hardware
Amazing!!
That song is so fire 🔥 …where can I stream it❓

Hi.. Is there any shortcut (like a macro) to reset all faders and pan knobs? It will be really helpful when someone uses multiple mix scenes.
Wouldn’t it make more sense just to EQ those guitars before the final mix? This seems odd to me.
a very useful way of manipulating an existing song, thanx Joe
When will we get 5.1? Or more modern surround modes in SO?
Is there anyway with the faderport 8 or 16 to control the faders of the splitter?
Does the ARTIST version have splitter if not what's the alternative?????
