Exciting to here your voice and have some commentary.
Any chance there will ever be a cycleway from Caulfield station to the city?

Never say never. Politically problematic since there isn't a corridor for a cycleway there without putting better use to the space currently occupied by motor vehicles.

I dunno, there is probably room to run it alongside the tramtracks between Malvern and St Kilda junction but there are a lot of intersections along the way. Plus it'd be a big effort for that.
I think what's morel likely is upgrading the track through Boyd Park in Hughesdale, bridging Dandenong Road at the urban forest (former outer circle line route) and joining up with the Gardiners creek trail which has a clear offroad run into the city.
Anyone using the Djerring trail could then easily turn at Hughesdale and continue into the city that way, while Caulfield becomes a dead-end at the university, perhaps supported with bike lanes on Tooronga Road or Burke and some sort of connection there with the existing pathway, having Monash uni as a hub for 'spoke' trails leading away from it, such as the nearby bikepath from Glen Huntly to McKinnon stations.

@@drunkill That's exactly what I think too. And with an over or underpass from the Urban Forest. Anything else on-road would require loss or indentation of parking. Worth doing but a huge hurdle in the minds of non-cyclists.

There's a big discussion about turning Inkerman's bike lanes into protected bike paths at the moment in Glen Eira council, but there are ways to get from Caulfield to the city with minimal road use already.
