I've got a buddy that uses the G3 on a low gain setting out front and runs the G4 in the FX loop, which doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me but it sounds absolutely insane.
Early Patreon notification squad strikes again! Btw nice tones man! Your micplacement starts to sound really good compared to your videos few years ago. I have always thought that you are being a real man for always using a real cab and mic. It's pretty rare these days, so Im really happy that there are still people that still value the old traditions
Thanks, these things get better with practice. Always trying to improve the sound captured. I've just never been happy with using IRs for this stuff, it's a great convenience to record silently and in a mix you wouldn't know the difference, but I just prefer to put a mic against a speaker myself.
They both sound so good. The Laid to Rest shootout spoke volumes about both pedals, but it really is hard to choose between the two. The g4 sounds like it might be better in a mix than the g3, but I'm sure that if you threw an eq behind the g3 you might be able to boost that high end enough to give it the kick it needs. The g3 tone you had was a very solid rhythm tone though!
That black V looks phenomenal. I have a black Hamer Vector with chrome hardware and white binding and all I want to do now is to put black hardware on that thing.
Was trying to decide between the G3 and G4, and your video sealed the deal, G4 it is. Odd that their highest gain channel/pedal is actually the more vintage/classic sounding one, which is why it would be my choice. Thanks!
Proud owner of the g3 pedal and would love to add this to my collection but i just got the victory countess preamp so might have to wait. One day I would love to get a rev amp head.
@@MetalMarauder yeah, there's a lot wrong with the way he plays this riff. But I think the reason it reminds him of Doom is the two chugs in the beginning. With no extra context, those sound like they are on one, where the the high E is actually on one in painkiller. The doom theme song however, starts with two low chugs.
Great review and I see that you have already made a few changes on the V, looking great. Were you going to keep the all black scratch plate or go with one that is black with white on the edges? Perhaps some wicked black anodized metal one? Also what ever happened to the '75 Ibanez Rocket Roll Sr? Would love to see that beauty again in a video if at all possible. Catch you on the next one. Stay metal!
Question here: How shitty would this sound if I attempted to play with my SG to the pedal to the power amp on my Fender Ultra Chorus. I mean, would it work? Could I chug with it? Can I those sick metal tones? I already know how to EQ and all. Scooped mids, lots of bass, gain at max. If I do this will I sound like my favorite metal bands?
Sounds great. Is there a way of setting that up in the loop so that you can use your amp normally but then bypass the front of the amp when you turn it on?
Hi Colin, I see you were using an Orange Rocker 15 with the Revv G3 demo earlier, sounds really good, just wondering if you tried the G4 through the Rocker 15 and if so is there any feedback you can provide as I have the Rocker 15 and was looking at getting one of these Revv pedals just not sure which one. It seems you favour Bon Jovi 80's metal types and possibly the G4 gets there? Any feedback would be really appreciated, thank you.
Yea, the G4 is much better. The older "classic" sound is what I like more. The new sound is good too, but I prefer the old metal sound with my own twist on it
Collin, do a demo of Biyang Metal End pedal. Absolutely amazing sounding distortion pedal that's dirt cheap too. I am getting sick fucking tones and I want the world to know about it.
@@ScienceofLoud Naw man, I really don't think it is. It offers much more usable tones than Metal Zone does and sounds different, much "meatier". I lack the vocabulary to describe it :D I really suggest you go for it.
My wife's gonna be mad. She just mopped, and now there's little bits of my melted face all over the floor. Regardless, THAT'S a good in your face distortion. Cool video as always. And yes, I love the 'Marvel' after credits scenes in your videos, lol.
Oh, Colin...you beautifull bastard, just casualy teasing us with those gold screws and knobs on that V. Btw, how about doing the unthinkable and comparing the G4 with the MT2w
I do like a slow reveal, it's much more exciting that way. I'd need to ask Boss to send me a Waza Zone to do that, I returned it to them after my videos.
The G3 sounds a slightly more modern (but slightly more tamed). It is also WAY more mid present. If you are looking for the classic "old" tones, I'd go for the G3. The G4 sounds akin to something I'd hear on a record today. It almost sounds like it could be an amp sim. So if you want the high end, modern, aggressive distortion, get the G4.
@@theknifesedge57 no offence, but this is a weird take. Modern metal tones are more mid focused, especially on really detuned takes. They hold up better in a mix too. Would be cool to hear the G4 with really detuned stuff

Yes... They mastered it... I bought a Blackout Edition G4... My favorite distortion pedal bar none... 🤘
I've got a buddy that uses the G3 on a low gain setting out front and runs the G4 in the FX loop, which doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me but it sounds absolutely insane.
Oh my god NOOOOO you yourself said that is a no no. Stop it too scooped and no mids. You can not be "Haired" .
I mean, it's a really mid heavy pedal to start with, so taking a touch off isn't a problem here. It's still very present.
@@ScienceofLoud I'm just being silly :)
Silly is good, I like silly.

the g3 won easily. just much thicker meatier tone.

G3 just needs an overdrive boost i think
I think I prefer the G4 to the G3. That L.o.G. Riff sounds much better with the G4. Love seeing the Black V project again.
That black V looks phenomenal. I have a black Hamer Vector with chrome hardware and white binding and all I want to do now is to put black hardware on that thing.
Thank you so much! This review and demo sold both of these pedals for me.
Finally someone who knows how to use this pedal, thank you. :)
I just saw this, I use this straight through my FX loop completely avoiding the preamp while using a mooer Radar, I get great results from it.
Was trying to decide between the G3 and G4, and your video sealed the deal, G4 it is. Odd that their highest gain channel/pedal is actually the more vintage/classic sounding one, which is why it would be my choice. Thanks!
Thanks for the review!! Impressed with the new revv!!
This is one of my favorite pedals ever... G3 and G4 ❤️
Gold hardware on that Gibson looks killer. I wonder why you did't change the bridge for a gold one
Just wait, there's a video coming soon. If you want a sneak peak check my Instagram profile.
Hell yeah this pedal is rocking ! I feel like owning both the G3 and G4 would grant me access to all my dreamt tones.
Just bought one.
It was this or the Strymon Riverside... But I chose the G4 and i love Strymon but this stood out more.
The EQ settings at 1:49 are about what I use on my amp.
The red pedal has way more clarity with high gain settings than its purple cousin.
Great Demo as always Collin, I am considering this pedal more for my bass distortion tone
Might be quite extreme for a bass distortion, but then maybe that's exactly what you want.
Could be a cool sound.
@@ScienceofLoud maybe a bit less gain than I would on the guitar but the midrange on this pedal is mostly what I'm going for
love the riff at the 5:59 so tasty...
Laid to Rest - Lamb of God
like a moother fookin tasty boxty
The G4 sounds better by itself to me, but I bet the G3 would sound better in a full mix on stage. I feel like it'd cut through better.
Love the dark tone!
the V is looking hot
Proud owner of the g3 pedal and would love to add this to my collection but i just got the victory countess preamp so might have to wait. One day I would love to get a rev amp head.
I wouldn't mind a Revv amp either, but some bar steward went and won that £150 million lottery last week, so they're a smidge above budget.
4:43 Is it weird that that riffing made my mind jump to the Doom soundtrack instead of Judas Priest? :P
Maybe it's because he played it slightly wrong? He added to random chugs at the beginning of the riff, which made it confusing to listen to.
@@JustinBA007 he also does a slide from A to G when it should be a pulloff from G to E
@@MetalMarauder yeah, there's a lot wrong with the way he plays this riff. But I think the reason it reminds him of Doom is the two chugs in the beginning. My boy Collin back at it again with Bon Jovi, keep the faith man!
"Dem Tones, Brah!"-Past Colin, talking to Present Colin
That's a great sounding McCarty 594 but there is a lot of 'black' on that burst. I love my DC594 in Fire Red Burst - PRS make such great instruments!!

But how does it sound with a flute?
4:44 I don't know what that is, but reminds me of Savatage (RIP Criss Oliva)
It's Painkiller by Judas Priest
@@ScienceofLoud Ah, thank you sir. I split up with JP when they split up (i.e., I didn't buy that disc).

Cool story bro
That is a nice sounding pedal.
Digging the V! The pedal didn’t impress me though. Also I didn’t manage to master the sitting position with the V like you...
