Because the manga argument is fucking stupid, in the manga they just cut everything to bits and only see luffy hitting kaido and kaido hitting luffy with nothing inbetween and it looks stupidddd!.
Kaido didn't even stand up in the manga. He was sitting on the ground and the next panel Luffy was decimated. I was hoping to see Kaido's quickness depicted in the anime episode but I was utterly disappointed

Yeah not gonna lie when the manga just had kaido go like: "Divine thunder!" And just finished luffy with ease, that was so freakin cool. And then in the anime it actually portrayed him trying like no he didn't try
Exactly! Why his gearing up for the hit definitely looked cool it was severely misplaced. Kaido doesn't _need_ to prepare or power-up to one-hit Luffy, he flinged him away like a fly.

I personally enjoyed the episodes in a different way from when I read the manga because to me the anime told a similar story but with different twists. When I read the manga the main thing I got from that fight was the sheer power and speed difference between luffy and Kaido because of how easily Kaido was able to dismiss luffy. With the anime I got a similar feeling but for different reasons. -Firstly the episode to me gave certain reminders to the viewers that Kaido was not in a proper state of mind, seen by the fact that he was carelessly destroying everything around him in a drunken stupor, potentially killing thousands of his own workers. No sane person trying to rule an empire would one day get drunk and decide to cross massive property damage to his own kingdom while killing thousands of his own subjects. The viewers constantly see Kaido staggering not because of damage, but because of the fact that he’s shit faced drunk. -Secondly the fact that Luffy unloaded essentially his entire arsenal against Kaido simply for Kaido to tank everything without even the slightest hint of injury then one shot him once deciding he had had enough, while terribly drunk mind you, showed me just how far apart these two were. The fact that luffy used and struck Kaido with KKG, the same move that OHKO’d Doflamingo and shattered Dresrossa, gave me an impression of Kaido being this unstoppable force, a monster to be reckoned with. So yeah that’s just how I interpreted the fight, but to each his own.
Yes , same to me - although snake man has a ton of power, it was supposed to be more of a counter to the more speedy opponents, but in terms of power king kong gun > king cobra So when i saw that kaido didnt even flinch to that it felt like its even pointless for luffy to even engage in combat with him again cause there is just nothing he could do to win that fight.
We gotta remember that doflamingo had gone through tons of damage at that point. I had a while rant yesterday about how i dont think luffy could have beat doffy if it werent for laws gamma knife destroying doffy from the inside out.
Paul Love that’s a fair point but doffy did somewhat repair the damage done to him by laws gamma knife, which was mind you the strongest move law had in his arsenal, and still had the strength to use his awakened devil fruit, along with coating them with armament haki. And it was with his awakened devil fruit abilities that managed to stall luffy long enough for Gear 4th to run out. So while I do agree that doffy wasn’t at 100% he still proved that he was far from completely down for the count until he got with KKG.
Exactly. To me people are just complain about the extended things expecting fights to last the same as in the manga, not realizing that this is an ANIME ADAPTATION. It needs ANIMATION to be ANIME.
Ever since Toriyama made Broly canon I wonder if he decided to make his version of Legendary Super Saiyans be on par with God/Blue, it would explain things.
Easy Fix for Anime to stretch time couldve been Kaido being to drunk to Care that Luffy was attacking him. Him falling over couldve been excused of him tripping on himself cause he is drunk. Luffy shoulda been frustrated that he wasnt making any damage. Then Kaido gains some Sobriety then he one shots him.
AlexJN Shoulda made it clearer. They made it look like Luffy somehow had a fighting chance. The addition of the King Kong Gun should not have been a clash. If they were gonna add that in Kaido shoulda just took the King Kong Gun not budging or grunting just completely still. Luffy would be shocked that King Kong did fuck all then he gets knocked out of the park thats when Kaido should say the attack while hitting Luffy so it will still be a Speed attack.
What annoyed me the most was Luffy's weird red aura that surrounded him even while he wasn't moving. In the manga there wasn't anything of the sort. Additional visual effects like that can be cool but they overdid it here IMO.

what toei did would be comparable if luffy took 2 minutes to fight bellamy the first time, holding onto the punch and showing that bellamy was fighting back against it, completly removing the impact of event
As someone who experienced it first in the anime (was a weekly reader but took a break after the end of dressrosa and caught back up at the start of the raid) my reaction was essentially "Wow luffy is doing a really good job fighting him... Wait why's Kaido so slow. He doesn't look like he's taking damage either. Ohhh, he's too drunk to fight. Oh wait he's gonna fight back now? Holy shit luffy's dead rip." It felt like watching someone attack a tank with a pool noodle for a while and then the driver got bored and pressed the gas.

im an anime only person, and i guess in my eyes when i was watching this fight, the way i interpreted it wasnt as much as luffy and kaido being close to equal, but rather kaido just being so strong that he barely gave a shit about what luffy was doing bc luffy's just so much farther beneath him. but i can definitely see what you mean by this and how it does change things quite a bit from the manga
You're not wrong. Kaido still seemed out of Luffy's league. But not insurmountable. In the manga Kaido clearly sees Luffy as less than nothing. After the timeskip I couldn't deal with how bad the pacing became in the anime. Glad you're still a fan, though.

That's how that scene was so iconic. Everything was very messy due to Bellamy bouncing everywhere then *boom* he's down. We really felt Luffy's punch during that scene.
Even in that scene, iirc, the anime made it seem like Bellamy was actually able to fight toe to toe with Luffy for a while, whereas in the manga, it's clear that as soon as Luffy gets serious, Bellamy is on the ground.
That scene does stretch a bit in the anime, and it works wonderfully for what they're trying to convey. Bellamy is shown to be absurdly fast, bouncing around the battlefield with blinding speed, building him up to be a genuine threat... making the audience question Luffy's motive for backing down in the tavern before. And then it comes crashing down in an instant... building up Bellamy in this case was absolutely crucial, because there's no payoff otherwise. It would just be empty. It works there, because Luffy had something to prove, both to Bellamy and the audience. Kaido has nothing to prove, to us or to anyone, so the situation is drastically different.
@@mclquiz the flow of the fight in the manga is 10x superior to the anime because the anime likes to stretch every frame. Like for example where luffy punched kaido on the head in dragon form In the anime this sequence lasted about 5 minutes and in the manga it was maybe a minute

long and short of it, all these problems are because of One Piece's Horseshit pacing, and Toei's need to drag the show out as long as possible and make it borderline unwatchable. Ill agree the Wano arc is alot better than what we've had in awhile. But despite one piece's amazing world building, Toei has made it the least enjoyable of all the anime I regularly watch. Had to quit for a bit during the Big mom arc, i couldnt hear the words "wedding cake" any longer...

exactly. when kaido de-transformed you could tell luffy wasn't doing shit. Toei was trying to give viewers the hope that "hey, luffy might be able to do this!" then kaido just tanks everything with ease and DROPS him. I thought it was great.
The animation and look was fantastic but my god it did look like fluffy stood a chance the amount of punches and how long he stayed in normal form was just silly
Yeah i got into an argument on a message board about that. I basically said, "LUFFY IS ATTACKING A YONKO! You dont do that and hold ANYTHING back when you get the chance to cheap shot a totally open and flat footed yonko. Luffy should have been gear 4 red hawk king kong gatling mega combo whatever he could pull out on kaido in the first strike because that is literally his best chance to do some damage and he wasted it on some don chinjao level fighting." They tried to justify it as luffy not wanting to go into his limited time gear 4 form but no, there is no way that makes sense. In the anime he had tons of time to power up and he chose to act like he was fighting ceaser again. Because yeah, a hit that can take down ceaser is TOTALLY going to be enough to take out a yonko. Good work luffy. Now you have his attention and did zero damage. That was the superior option, clearly. The manga version makes sense then because it doesnt display luffy taking the time to set up the attack, he just attacks, so no wonder he wasnt maxxed out on power ups at the time. The anime gave him a couple minutes prep time. Which he wasted.
Of course Toei would flag it. They want to uphold a professional image of being perfect and having a perfect fanbase. They can't have videos out there talking about how their own mistake divided the fanbase

Some things just don't don't work But we are talking about manga to anime. Where is the difficult part? What you said can be done and was done multiple times in the industry. We aren't talking about some novel which doesn't have drawings and pannels, everything is already prepared and ready to be animated. What is the point of changing Luffy not even reacting to Kaido's attack and being defeated instantly? How can it be so problematic that they needed to have Luffy use KKG and land it on Kaido to make it work? This is anime adaptation, it's perfectly possible

In all honesty as someone who watches very infrequently now and mainly reads the manga I watched the episodes from the sumo match til the end of part one back to back and although they weren't faithful I honestly still loved them and although they aren't portraying kaido speed properly I feel like the direction they took makes him seem more of an insurmountable wall by showing just how much he took including luffy currently known most powerful attack and shrugged it off without breaking a sweat so even if it may not show his speed I think it emphasizes better on his unkillable beast side
The biggest spat Toei make to the manga was the King Kong gun, with a illusional clash with Doflamingo where in fact this one was totally obliterated by it without understanding what has hit him. And know they amuse to pop up King Kong guns like a filler move which add more to the insult. I would say more about it.
if some anime watchers don't get how much of a shock manga panel was where Luffy goes ballistic on Kaido in the last page of the chapter, watch Uzumaki Khan's reaction where he switches from one medium to another never expecting anything major to happen. there's more to it than just being branded a manga elitist. we would rather share similar experience with anime only watchers if at all the studio is listening.
Who cares. The anime got the same result only they also showed how much of a tank kaido is as well as his power. Idk who watched that fight and thought luffy was putting up a fight with kaido

@@Its_Pritam_ because it shouldn't be that different. I myself am a manga reader and I since this fiasco have completely parted ways with the anime after that point. One Pace is just a better way if I rrally wanted to watch the anime without the filler parts in it, but even they can't make miracles. My problem is not that people shouldn't enjoy the anime, it's that they can't get the same I can just because it makes more money for it to be this way. The anime could be just a better version than the manga, many have achieved that, but here the fanbase divides itself because one product is so lackluster compared to the other one. Why do people have to think that One Piece is slow? Why do they have to slog through minutes to watch a certain moment that took me seconds to read because it was actually in just a page? Why do they have to see something that wasn't there or that was presented differently, giving them different ideas? Because some decided that it should be the case... but that person was not the author and that might not be bad... if the author wasn't Oda. Oda is so respected by the publishers, that he has the power to completely ignore whatever advice they may give/impose on him. There really few who can do that, most mangakas must oblige to certain "advices" the compant gives them, but some of them have proven themselves to be able to it the jackpot so many times on their own and can just do whatever they want. Just imagine Oda talking with his assistant and him saying "Change that thing into this one" and Oda responding "Cool idea, but no". Normally that wouldn't fly, but Oda is one of the few who can, still some punk at Toei decided they can do better. Sorry for the rant, I kind of went overboard here ahahahah

The same person who while trying to save Ace ignored any meaning of the word safety and tried to fight people insanely above his pay grade. The person who does this shit routinely every chapter? Just immediately jumping into danger? If you were shocked. You're probably shocked every time Goku gets a new power up.
As a manga reader I completely disagree with the majority that thinks that the anime did the fight an injustice, and I don't see how people could be mad about the anime version. This is what animes do for one. And for two, luffy going all out and "seemingly winning" only to be shut down in a single blow by the irritated kaido makes him seem even more badass than it did in the manga. It's like one of those, "okay you tried your best, but you're still no match for me" kind of moments that truly makes a character seem badass.
Anime: Kaido and Luffy clash Manga: Kaido is sitting down. Luffy is one shotted and Kaido's already somehow up. ^^^ do the math. Kaido's speed in the manga wasn't even comprehensible for Luffy, in the anime he saw it coming and CHOSE to attack back rather than dodge. Anime makes Luffy look way better than the manga.
Why on earth would kaido dodge when he's been eating luffy's attacks for the past 15 minutes and took 0 damage. The fight in the anime wasn't evenly matched at all, kaido swatted him like a fly

Having Luffy hit Kaido implies that Luffy knew where Kaido was while attacking. Saying he didn't see Kaido attacking him is: 1) wrong, because in the anime we see him noticing; 2) He had already stretched his arm forward from meters away? It makes no sense
Hmm I disagree on your first points. Admittedly I am anime only. 1. Seeing Luffy prep for the first strike is a logical story sequence that doesn't take away from the potential of a suprise impact. In-fact the drama of the ramp-up hypes up viewers. Not to mention that still could have gone terribly, such as Luffy getting immediately KOd or being pulled out from starting the fight for other reasons. 2. The prolonged drama of close ups and long shots of reactions is a completely expected part of the One Piece franchise. When you have 20+ years of weekly content, you just CANNOT have combat be a swift movie-like battle. The slow pace of content is made manageable (to viewers) by these dramatized closeups and reaction scenes. They make several moments that could be 1-2 second shots and break them out into 20-30 second action + reaction shots. And you know what? If that means we get a new episode every week then heck yeah, keep it up! On your second points, I kind of agree that the power difference you describe seems to be portrayed differently. However I think it was a good move to see luffy attempt to pull off one of his most powerful moves to show that it has NO effect on Kaido as he was sobering up. And I think a key part of this fight is that Kaido was drunk the whole time and barely sobering up at the end. This leaves viewers with an understanding that we haven't even seen Kaido at anywhere near his best and he still OHKO'd luffy. I understand that as viewers we still don't have a gauge on Kaido's speed. But I don't really have an opinion on that I guess.

In what way did he power up? He didnt go gear two, let alone anything else. He just stomped up there and punched the dude right in the face. On the other hand, we can take any of the group walk moments. Arlong park, frankys gang, fishman island. There wasnt really a power up there either, but it was luffy (and gang) slow walking their way to a fight instead of luffy pulling a fish costume charge at doflamingos castle.
It might have just been me, but when I watched the fight I didn’t even take it as Kaido trying. It might not have portrayed his speed in the anime, but someone just taking the King Kong gun was definitely demoralizing for me to see and made me realize that Luffy wasn’t going to just be able to punch his way out of this. I still understand why manga readers would be displeased though.
yeah. it's the difference between a kid punching a pro boxer I'm the face with a surprise blow and getting swift retaliation vs they them proceed to spar for 3 minutes. ik get it. I don't even read the manga but I get it
I am primarily a manga reader but I watched the last 3 episodes to see Kaido in action, it really didn't bother me, I do understand why some people are upset, but it's the same with book to movie adaptations, if you accept the changes that are made then you can appreciate it a lot more for what it is, a fantastic bit of animation
Cody Borden same in most instances as long as it doesn’t completely change the story, my problem is more that Toei has done a horrible job with the animation of the greatest Manga ever. Compare OP anime to those of Demon slayer, HxH, etc.
I liked how kaidos lightning Bagua played in the anime. Luffy attacked first and kaido just went nope and outstripped him in speed technique and power showing how far apart they are
Personally even after listening to your points, I think this episode was done well - I think a lot of your comments are due to your perspective as a Manga reader watching the anime with an expectation. However being someone who actively avoids the OP manga I feel they depicted the sheer difference in strength between Kaido and Luffy very well... Granted Luffy knocked Kaido down a few times but ultimately Kaido was clearly inebriated, and so isn't fighting seriously and also he took all of Luffy's strongest attacks head on and came out unscathed. When He finally chose to retaliate he knocked him out extremely convincingly in one blow (that did't even seem like much effort for Kaido to execute), at this point I feel like Luffy has absolutely no chance at all against kaido. I'm not defending Toei, this is just my opinion and trying to stand up for us anime watchers haha. Thank you for making these videos anyway, they're great! Much love
Please respect Oda for what he's trying to portray. About Kaido sheer strength, we already know from many of his scenes and appearances. Who doesn't know about it? Now, Oda was trying to show us his speed is also on another level. It was the first time Oda revealed his speed and Toei disrespectfully changed the whole intention. The animation was godly and all but what's even better? Godly animation while staying true to the content. You all keep saying fuck the manga and everything but where does the content come from? I'm not trying to stand up for anime or manga, but Oda himself. Oda leaves a lot of room for Toei to extend and add filler scenes and I'm fine with that, but you have to admit Toei overstepped their boundaries by totally changing it into something else. Good day!
The fact that I read the manga and watch the anime, I can understand why they extended certain scenes. The only thing I don't like is the changing of character named and making certain scenes be inaccurate. But if we want to see it animated we can't complain. I still want to see Bleach Thousand year war animated 😔
I think anime does this best than manga I know Luffy is not kind of guy who thinks much but in this case it was especially important for him to proces what he has seen that scene alone showed how Luffy was worried and cared for his crew . That's what this scene does best .
When I was watching this my thought was the reason Luffy was beating up on Kaido was because Kaido was piss-drunk, and then when he got knocked into sobering up he just one-shot Luffy. I didn't have a problem with the fight because that was my thought-process on it.
I’m anime only, and I feel both sides, but this feels like people whining again. You’re right about the time stretching but I also feel like the anime played out the scenes in a way they made sense. Kaido was drunk through this whole thing, my thought was he switched back to human form so he could end it quick, and when luffy hit his kkg it was supposed to convey a katakuri and luffy moment but the instant they hit each other it was clear luffy was done. Kaido didn’t take a scratch the whole fight what would make you think that they were trying to show luffy had a chance? I just think people need something to nit pick sometimes, I respect everyone’s opinion but naw I think these scenes were excellent in execution even not sticking to the manga

@@illumigk6307 Yes but he didn't get nearly as many shots in and also didn't do any 'equal' clashes against Kaido in the manga. Luffy got a few shots in which Kaido took like it was nothing seemingly in his giant dragon form. He then ultimately transformed back to base form and then straight up speed blitzed Luffy after Luffy did some G4 attacks which also didn't do shit lmao. The anime be overextending way too much on the filler here to the point where it's straight conflicting with factual canon content. But it's nothing new tbh, anime has been fucking up for years like this.
The funny thing is that every time a blow is landed the power really doesn’t have much backing it anymore if it’s dragged out. Also I have no issues with luffy starting King Kong Gun but the fact that it hit Kaido made me upset. However the reason the anime is the way it is to fill in time since they want to make 1 chapter episodes instead of 2 chapters which makes everything horribly paced which is why I’m not as upset. What we should all be focusing on is meliodas vs escanor
As a manga reader, the instantaneous defeat of Luffy was not realized. However, I think the anime played on Kaido sobering up as he didn't really care when Luffy did his attacks as there were almost no defending with Haki. He was basically like trying to stand properly when you're drunk--possibly trying to test Luffy and show to the audience that there was no chance at the moment to beat him. I think the anime did well on expressing how angry Luffy was when he believed there was a chance a good portion of his crew would be eliminated forever from a uncaring dragon breath from Kaido. The most "what-the" reaction was when Kaido blasted Luffy into the mountain and he somehow bounced back into arms reach within a few seconds. By portraying Luffy as being able to sober up and possibly impressing Kaido enough not to instantly kill him, it gives Kaido enough purpose to keep Luffy alive and arrested instead of some fodder to discard(although he would've known from prior information) and gives watchers reason to believe Luffy has a chance. I don't believe it undermines Kaido's strength as he already demonstrated his power in dragon form and now he's demonstrated durability greater than Big Mom just because he didn’t need Haki-up to take minimal damage from Luffy. TLDR: I believe the anime played off the fact that Kaido was drunk off his ass(slow, unbalanced, and inhibited) to give animators ample space to depict how far Luffy was from a Yonkou and to showcase Kaido’s durability and immense strength despite not being at a state close to his best. My biggest complaint was that it dragged on longer than it needed to and the destruction caused by Luffy and his attacks or deflections of Kaido’s attacks make Luffy more of a raging idiot rather than a raging idiot that still cared about people fleeing the scene.
This is the Real Good and Great and Impartial view Analysis. A Hawkeye Analysis. This is what really happened. Kaido is still Stronger if Kaido was on in Senses he at least would have used Haki to protect himself because even Big Mom a Natural Born Destroyer with a Hard Body need to use Haki to protect herself from a Kong Bazooka. Kaido took that a Kong Bazooka to his face and nothing. Anime in my Opinion and of what I see depicted even a larger difference of Power Between Luffy and Kaido than in compare to what was Showed in the Manga. Manga: One Elephant Gun Kadou goes Down get Up Blast Luffy away KO. Anime: Kaido Receives a lot of Attacks don't feel nothing he just was been Balanced from a side to another without feeling any kind of great Pain. Human Form takes Luffy Stronger Gear Fourth Attacks to the face,entire Body and not a single bit of Blood going out of him or some scar. And right after all of that just one Attack Luffy is Down. Anime did better than Manga in the Fight Scenes and depicted the difference of Strength between Them. Remember Kaido was Drunk, didn't use Haki protection and one hit Ko Luffy.

Each one is hard to defeat in a Kind of way and not Impossible to beat in another way giving to all of them the possibility to beat each other.
i feel like they made the colors more vibrant and improved the shading a bit in the Wano ark, and those relatively small changes made the animation look so much better

Even as an anime only watcher, I agree! One of the worst violations was the last hit on Doflamingo. The added "push" caused the final hit to hit Doflamingo almost in slow motion; talking all of the "oomph" out of it. It would've been so much better with just an instantaneous smash.
They seriously need to take a break so that they have material to work with. The anime tries to stretch scenes to the utter limit. Like just do a HxH and go on break for a bit, wait a year or 2 to do the manga justice ffs...

Same! I am an anime only watcher and I realized that the Luffy vs Kaido fight was just not right. Kaido is a person who tries to commit suicide for fun, and yet Luffy still smacks him around. I am definitely going to switch to manga.

Too much drama, these videos divide the fanbase. Personally I enjoyed the effort, got the message and the anime shown plenty of times that kaido wasnt even trying. Luffys personality didn't change. If you read the manga, then you can imagine how he skipped to the sky and punched kaido, anime just showed you what manga couldnt. Fun to watch, fun to read No big deal
The same happened with Luffy and Doflamingo. The King Kong Gun vs God Thread was so Dbz clashing Kamehameha/Genkidama that it lost all its value. So annoying!
This is just like King Kong Gun against Doffy where it became a beam clash instead of the absolutely dominating 'BANG' moment. That punch is supposed to travel as fast as a cannon but instead it was like a blimp.
The difference here is because of media’s goal that is presenting. The anime plays an episode on TV, therefore it needs to keep viewers enticed for the duration of the episode in order to raise viewing on advertisement and thus making money. They show Luffy preparing the punch so the viewer continues watching to see the anticipated hit. Same goes for the impact. As you said, it’s to make it seem as if you don’t know who will come out on top. Again, it keeps the viewer watching to see who wins. Thanks to these, the channel can put in more ad breaks between them which the viewer will watch in order to see what happens next. The manga has the freedom because 1) it’s the original source. And 2) it doesn’t need to build reader tension as much, as it’s has already made its dollar from the reader buying the book. Whether they read it or not.
I felt exactly the same and was just crazy bummed out while watching this fight. While all of this amazing stuff is being animated in front of me, I couldn’t help but let out a sigh.
Oh my God what an overreaction. Kaido was never even hurt. The one shot works perfectly well done. The impact was not changed for me. It actually intensified it. It shows how much of an actual monster he is by actually knocking out a KONG GUN like nothing. People took this and blew it way out of propotions. "OH NO KAIDO DIDNT DO IT QUICK ENOUGH!" seriously? Its an anime adaptation and i believe what the manga wanted to convey with that scene was achived. Now if luffy punched Kaido and he threw blood then THAT would be a radical change. But prolonging the battle with luffy giving punches that do NOTHING is still similar to the manga and in no way is a radical change. But noooo everything has to be beat for beat, panel for panel.

It REALLY isnt. The anime adaptation changes the whole atmosphere of not just the fight, but the entire arc, and the world itself. The manga paints emperors as titanic monsters that seem unbeatable and the whole point of the story is to watch the protagonist aka luffy accomplish the impossible task of surpassing them. The whole point of the story is that mr nobody from nowhere luffy has an "impossible" dream to become the pirate king, and against all odds and to the surprise of everyone he has come extremely close to achieving it(and of course we all know in the end he achieves it, but the story isnt finished yet). But the way the anime portrayed it, like the guy said in the video, which you would have picked up on if you were actually listening, is that the fight de-escalates the power of the emperors to albeit extremely difficult, but beatable opponents. It makes them seem a lot less scary and it makes the eventual payoff when luffy beats the crap out of kaido a lot less satisfying. Before you go and leave stupid comments like this that demerit other peoples opinions, maybe try and listen to what they have to say first you imbecile.

I understand the studios refusing to go into a seasonal format but is it too much to ask for them to drop down to one episode per 2 weeks? I feel like that would help the pacing tremendously. This fight was one chapter long and was split between two episodes. From what I’ve seen in other shows, usually 3 chapters can be put into ONE episode! When an arc has more episodes than chapters, it just becomes a chore to watch. As for this fight specifically, the anime also effectively changed the outcome of the fight. Luffy tanked hits from kaidos dragon form in the anime, meaning his victory is no longer a “one shot”
Yeah but that was a long while ago when he said that, I believe it was even before or during the beginning of While Cake Island. And I’m pretty sure it’s not referencing power level requirements to beat Kaido but how to take him down in a way that fits the theme of the Wano arc, similar to how Eneru was defeated by being smashed into the bell and Doflamingo is literally punched straight from heaven into the hell he created on Dressrosa.
For me the anime made it even more clear how big the gap was between them, showing Luffy's explosion of rage and haki after seeing his crew get obliterated, him gearing up and giving it everything he possibly can at his most angry, just for Kaido to blankly stare at him and one hit KO him was insane to me 👌

I personally enjoyed the episodes in a different way from when I read the manga because to me the anime told a similar story but with different twists. When I read the manga the main thing I got from that fight was the sheer power and speed difference between luffy and Kaido because of how easily Kaido was able to dismiss luffy. With the anime I got a similar feeling but for different reasons.
-Firstly the episode to me gave certain reminders to the viewers that Kaido was not in a proper state of mind, seen by the fact that he was carelessly destroying everything around him in a drunken stupor, potentially killing thousands of his own workers. No sane person trying to rule an empire would one day get drunk and decide to cross massive property damage to his own kingdom while killing thousands of his own subjects. The viewers constantly see Kaido staggering not because of damage, but because of the fact that he’s shit faced drunk.
-Secondly the fact that Luffy unloaded essentially his entire arsenal against Kaido simply for Kaido to tank everything without even the slightest hint of injury then one shot him once deciding he had had enough, while terribly drunk mind you, showed me just how far apart these two were. The fact that luffy used and struck Kaido with KKG, the same move that OHKO’d Doflamingo and shattered Dresrossa, gave me an impression of Kaido being this unstoppable force, a monster to be reckoned with.
So yeah that’s just how I interpreted the fight, but to each his own.
Yes , same to me - although snake man has a ton of power, it was supposed to be more of a counter to the more speedy opponents, but in terms of power king kong gun > king cobra
So when i saw that kaido didnt even flinch to that it felt like its even pointless for luffy to even engage in combat with him again cause there is just nothing he could do to win that fight.

We gotta remember that doflamingo had gone through tons of damage at that point. I had a while rant yesterday about how i dont think luffy could have beat doffy if it werent for laws gamma knife destroying doffy from the inside out.
Paul Love that’s a fair point but doffy did somewhat repair the damage done to him by laws gamma knife, which was mind you the strongest move law had in his arsenal, and still had the strength to use his awakened devil fruit, along with coating them with armament haki. And it was with his awakened devil fruit abilities that managed to stall luffy long enough for Gear 4th to run out. So while I do agree that doffy wasn’t at 100% he still proved that he was far from completely down for the count until he got with KKG.

Easy Fix for Anime to stretch time couldve been Kaido being to drunk to Care that Luffy was attacking him. Him falling over couldve been excused of him tripping on himself cause he is drunk.
Luffy shoulda been frustrated that he wasnt making any damage. Then Kaido gains some Sobriety then he one shots him.

AlexJN Shoulda made it clearer. They made it look like Luffy somehow had a fighting chance. The addition of the King Kong Gun should not have been a clash. If they were gonna add that in Kaido shoulda just took the King Kong Gun not budging or grunting just completely still. Luffy would be shocked that King Kong did fuck all then he gets knocked out of the park thats when Kaido should say the attack while hitting Luffy so it will still be a Speed attack.

What annoyed me the most was Luffy's weird red aura that surrounded him even while he wasn't moving. In the manga there wasn't anything of the sort. Additional visual effects like that can be cool but they overdid it here IMO.

As someone who experienced it first in the anime (was a weekly reader but took a break after the end of dressrosa and caught back up at the start of the raid) my reaction was essentially "Wow luffy is doing a really good job fighting him... Wait why's Kaido so slow. He doesn't look like he's taking damage either. Ohhh, he's too drunk to fight. Oh wait he's gonna fight back now? Holy shit luffy's dead rip." It felt like watching someone attack a tank with a pool noodle for a while and then the driver got bored and pressed the gas.

Imagine when Luffy punched Bellamy in Jaya, to see that in slow motion as we saw with Kaido.
That's how that scene was so iconic. Everything was very messy due to Bellamy bouncing everywhere then *boom* he's down. We really felt Luffy's punch during that scene.
Even in that scene, iirc, the anime made it seem like Bellamy was actually able to fight toe to toe with Luffy for a while, whereas in the manga, it's clear that as soon as Luffy gets serious, Bellamy is on the ground.
That scene does stretch a bit in the anime, and it works wonderfully for what they're trying to convey. Bellamy is shown to be absurdly fast, bouncing around the battlefield with blinding speed, building him up to be a genuine threat... making the audience question Luffy's motive for backing down in the tavern before. And then it comes crashing down in an instant... building up Bellamy in this case was absolutely crucial, because there's no payoff otherwise. It would just be empty. It works there, because Luffy had something to prove, both to Bellamy and the audience. Kaido has nothing to prove, to us or to anyone, so the situation is drastically different.

long and short of it, all these problems are because of One Piece's Horseshit pacing, and Toei's need to drag the show out as long as possible and make it borderline unwatchable. Ill agree the Wano arc is alot better than what we've had in awhile. But despite one piece's amazing world building, Toei has made it the least enjoyable of all the anime I regularly watch. Had to quit for a bit during the Big mom arc, i couldnt hear the words "wedding cake" any longer...

exactly. when kaido de-transformed you could tell luffy wasn't doing shit. Toei was trying to give viewers the hope that "hey, luffy might be able to do this!" then kaido just tanks everything with ease and DROPS him. I thought it was great.

Yeah i got into an argument on a message board about that. I basically said, "LUFFY IS ATTACKING A YONKO! You dont do that and hold ANYTHING back when you get the chance to cheap shot a totally open and flat footed yonko. Luffy should have been gear 4 red hawk king kong gatling mega combo whatever he could pull out on kaido in the first strike because that is literally his best chance to do some damage and he wasted it on some don chinjao level fighting." They tried to justify it as luffy not wanting to go into his limited time gear 4 form but no, there is no way that makes sense. In the anime he had tons of time to power up and he chose to act like he was fighting ceaser again. Because yeah, a hit that can take down ceaser is TOTALLY going to be enough to take out a yonko. Good work luffy. Now you have his attention and did zero damage. That was the superior option, clearly.
The manga version makes sense then because it doesnt display luffy taking the time to set up the attack, he just attacks, so no wonder he wasnt maxxed out on power ups at the time. The anime gave him a couple minutes prep time. Which he wasted.
Of course Toei would flag it. They want to uphold a professional image of being perfect and having a perfect fanbase. They can't have videos out there talking about how their own mistake divided the fanbase

But we are talking about manga to anime. Where is the difficult part? What you said can be done and was done multiple times in the industry. We aren't talking about some novel which doesn't have drawings and pannels, everything is already prepared and ready to be animated. What is the point of changing Luffy not even reacting to Kaido's attack and being defeated instantly? How can it be so problematic that they needed to have Luffy use KKG and land it on Kaido to make it work?

It highlights that Kaidos greatest power is his durability.
In all honesty as someone who watches very infrequently now and mainly reads the manga I watched the episodes from the sumo match til the end of part one back to back and although they weren't faithful I honestly still loved them and although they aren't portraying kaido speed properly I feel like the direction they took makes him seem more of an insurmountable wall by showing just how much he took including luffy currently known most powerful attack and shrugged it off without breaking a sweat so even if it may not show his speed I think it emphasizes better on his unkillable beast side
The biggest spat Toei make to the manga was the King Kong gun, with a illusional clash with Doflamingo where in fact this one was totally obliterated by it without understanding what has hit him. And know they amuse to pop up King Kong guns like a filler move which add more to the insult. I would say more about it.
if some anime watchers don't get how much of a shock manga panel was where Luffy goes ballistic on Kaido in the last page of the chapter, watch Uzumaki Khan's reaction where he switches from one medium to another never expecting anything major to happen. there's more to it than just being branded a manga elitist. we would rather share similar experience with anime only watchers if at all the studio is listening.

One Pace is just a better way if I rrally wanted to watch the anime without the filler parts in it, but even they can't make miracles.
My problem is not that people shouldn't enjoy the anime, it's that they can't get the same I can just because it makes more money for it to be this way.
The anime could be just a better version than the manga, many have achieved that, but here the fanbase divides itself because one product is so lackluster compared to the other one.
Why do people have to think that One Piece is slow? Why do they have to slog through minutes to watch a certain moment that took me seconds to read because it was actually in just a page? Why do they have to see something that wasn't there or that was presented differently, giving them different ideas? Because some decided that it should be the case... but that person was not the author and that might not be bad... if the author wasn't Oda.
Oda is so respected by the publishers, that he has the power to completely ignore whatever advice they may give/impose on him. There really few who can do that, most mangakas must oblige to certain "advices" the compant gives them, but some of them have proven themselves to be able to it the jackpot so many times on their own and can just do whatever they want.
Just imagine Oda talking with his assistant and him saying "Change that thing into this one" and Oda responding "Cool idea, but no". Normally that wouldn't fly, but Oda is one of the few who can, still some punk at Toei decided they can do better. Sorry for the rant, I kind of went overboard here ahahahah

As a manga reader I completely disagree with the majority that thinks that the anime did the fight an injustice, and I don't see how people could be mad about the anime version. This is what animes do for one. And for two, luffy going all out and "seemingly winning" only to be shut down in a single blow by the irritated kaido makes him seem even more badass than it did in the manga. It's like one of those, "okay you tried your best, but you're still no match for me" kind of moments that truly makes a character seem badass.

Also if Kaido in the anime is as fast as the manga showed, how would he get hit? Are you saying that he ran against Luffy's fist? Having Luffy hit Kaido implies that Luffy knew where Kaido was while attacking. Saying he didn't see Kaido attacking him is:
1) wrong, because in the anime we see him noticing;
2) He had already stretched his arm forward from meters away? It makes no sense

Hmm I disagree on your first points. Admittedly I am anime only.
1. Seeing Luffy prep for the first strike is a logical story sequence that doesn't take away from the potential of a suprise impact. In-fact the drama of the ramp-up hypes up viewers. Not to mention that still could have gone terribly, such as Luffy getting immediately KOd or being pulled out from starting the fight for other reasons.
2. The prolonged drama of close ups and long shots of reactions is a completely expected part of the One Piece franchise. When you have 20+ years of weekly content, you just CANNOT have combat be a swift movie-like battle. The slow pace of content is made manageable (to viewers) by these dramatized closeups and reaction scenes. They make several moments that could be 1-2 second shots and break them out into 20-30 second action + reaction shots. And you know what? If that means we get a new episode every week then heck yeah, keep it up!
On your second points, I kind of agree that the power difference you describe seems to be portrayed differently. However I think it was a good move to see luffy attempt to pull off one of his most powerful moves to show that it has NO effect on Kaido as he was sobering up. And I think a key part of this fight is that Kaido was drunk the whole time and barely sobering up at the end. This leaves viewers with an understanding that we haven't even seen Kaido at anywhere near his best and he still OHKO'd luffy. I understand that as viewers we still don't have a gauge on Kaido's speed. But I don't really have an opinion on that I guess.

In what way did he power up? He didnt go gear two, let alone anything else. He just stomped up there and punched the dude right in the face. On the other hand, we can take any of the group walk moments. Arlong park, frankys gang, fishman island. There wasnt really a power up there either, but it was luffy (and gang) slow walking their way to a fight instead of luffy pulling a fish costume charge at doflamingos castle.

It might have just been me, but when I watched the fight I didn’t even take it as Kaido trying. It might not have portrayed his speed in the anime, but someone just taking the King Kong gun was definitely demoralizing for me to see and made me realize that Luffy wasn’t going to just be able to punch his way out of this. I still understand why manga readers would be displeased though.

I am primarily a manga reader but I watched the last 3 episodes to see Kaido in action, it really didn't bother me, I do understand why some people are upset, but it's the same with book to movie adaptations, if you accept the changes that are made then you can appreciate it a lot more for what it is, a fantastic bit of animation

Personally even after listening to your points, I think this episode was done well - I think a lot of your comments are due to your perspective as a Manga reader watching the anime with an expectation. However being someone who actively avoids the OP manga I feel they depicted the sheer difference in strength between Kaido and Luffy very well... Granted Luffy knocked Kaido down a few times but ultimately Kaido was clearly inebriated, and so isn't fighting seriously and also he took all of Luffy's strongest attacks head on and came out unscathed. When He finally chose to retaliate he knocked him out extremely convincingly in one blow (that did't even seem like much effort for Kaido to execute), at this point I feel like Luffy has absolutely no chance at all against kaido. I'm not defending Toei, this is just my opinion and trying to stand up for us anime watchers haha. Thank you for making these videos anyway, they're great! Much love
Please respect Oda for what he's trying to portray. About Kaido sheer strength, we already know from many of his scenes and appearances. Who doesn't know about it? Now, Oda was trying to show us his speed is also on another level. It was the first time Oda revealed his speed and Toei disrespectfully changed the whole intention. The animation was godly and all but what's even better? Godly animation while staying true to the content. You all keep saying fuck the manga and everything but where does the content come from? I'm not trying to stand up for anime or manga, but Oda himself. Oda leaves a lot of room for Toei to extend and add filler scenes and I'm fine with that, but you have to admit Toei overstepped their boundaries by totally changing it into something else. Good day!

The fact that I read the manga and watch the anime, I can understand why they extended certain scenes. The only thing I don't like is the changing of character named and making certain scenes be inaccurate. But if we want to see it animated we can't complain. I still want to see Bleach Thousand year war animated 😔

I think anime does this best than manga I know Luffy is not kind of guy who thinks much but in this case it was especially important for him to proces what he has seen that scene alone showed how Luffy was worried and cared for his crew . That's what this scene does best .
When I was watching this my thought was the reason Luffy was beating up on Kaido was because Kaido was piss-drunk, and then when he got knocked into sobering up he just one-shot Luffy. I didn't have a problem with the fight because that was my thought-process on it.

I’m anime only, and I feel both sides, but this feels like people whining again. You’re right about the time stretching but I also feel like the anime played out the scenes in a way they made sense. Kaido was drunk through this whole thing, my thought was he switched back to human form so he could end it quick, and when luffy hit his kkg it was supposed to convey a katakuri and luffy moment but the instant they hit each other it was clear luffy was done. Kaido didn’t take a scratch the whole fight what would make you think that they were trying to show luffy had a chance? Luffy got a few shots in which Kaido took like it was nothing seemingly in his giant dragon form. He then ultimately transformed back to base form and then straight up speed blitzed Luffy after Luffy did some G4 attacks which also didn't do shit lmao. The anime be overextending way too much on the filler here to the point where it's straight conflicting with factual canon content. But it's nothing new tbh, anime has been fucking up for years like this.

The funny thing is that every time a blow is landed the power really doesn’t have much backing it anymore if it’s dragged out. Also I have no issues with luffy starting King Kong Gun but the fact that it hit Kaido made me upset. However the reason the anime is the way it is to fill in time since they want to make 1 chapter episodes instead of 2 chapters which makes everything horribly paced which is why I’m not as upset. What we should all be focusing on is meliodas vs escanor
As a manga reader, the instantaneous defeat of Luffy was not realized. However, I think the anime played on Kaido sobering up as he didn't really care when Luffy did his attacks as there were almost no defending with Haki. He was basically like trying to stand properly when you're drunk--possibly trying to test Luffy and show to the audience that there was no chance at the moment to beat him. I think the anime did well on expressing how angry Luffy was when he believed there was a chance a good portion of his crew would be eliminated forever from a uncaring dragon breath from Kaido. The most "what-the" reaction was when Kaido blasted Luffy into the mountain and he somehow bounced back into arms reach within a few seconds. By portraying Luffy as being able to sober up and possibly impressing Kaido enough not to instantly kill him, it gives Kaido enough purpose to keep Luffy alive and arrested instead of some fodder to discard(although he would've known from prior information) and gives watchers reason to believe Luffy has a chance. I don't believe it undermines Kaido's strength as he already demonstrated his power in dragon form and now he's demonstrated durability greater than Big Mom just because he didn’t need Haki-up to take minimal damage from Luffy.
TLDR: I believe the anime played off the fact that Kaido was drunk off his ass(slow, unbalanced, and inhibited) to give animators ample space to depict how far Luffy was from a Yonkou and to showcase Kaido’s durability and immense strength despite not being at a state close to his best.
My biggest complaint was that it dragged on longer than it needed to and the destruction caused by Luffy and his attacks or deflections of Kaido’s attacks make Luffy more of a raging idiot rather than a raging idiot that still cared about people fleeing the scene.

Hawkeye Analysis. This is what really happened. Kaido is still Stronger if Kaido was on in Senses he at least would have used Haki to protect himself because even Big Mom a Natural Born Destroyer with a Hard Body need to use Haki to protect herself from a Kong Bazooka. Kaido took that a Kong Bazooka to his face and nothing. Anime in my Opinion and of what I see depicted even a larger difference of Power Between Luffy and Kaido than in compare to what was Showed in the Manga.
Manga: One Elephant Gun Kadou goes Down get Up Blast Luffy away KO.
Anime: Kaido Receives a lot of Attacks don't feel nothing he just was been Balanced from a side to another without feeling any kind of great Pain. Human Form takes Luffy Stronger Gear Fourth Attacks to the face,entire Body and not a single bit of Blood going out of him or some scar. And right after all of that just one Attack Luffy is Down.
Anime did better than Manga in the Fight Scenes and depicted the difference of Strength between Them. Remember Kaido was Drunk, didn't use Haki protection and one hit Ko Luffy.

Not the biggest Defense and Strength. Kaido is the one with the Biggest Strength and Defense. Shanks is the one with the Strongest Haki. Black Beard the strongest one using Devil Fruit Power. Each one is hard to defeat in a Kind of way and not Impossible to beat in another way giving to all of them the possibility to beat each other.

Even as an anime only watcher, I agree! One of the worst violations was the last hit on Doflamingo. The added "push" caused the final hit to hit Doflamingo almost in slow motion; talking all of the "oomph" out of it. It would've been so much better with just an instantaneous smash.

tbh i really never bothered reading manga but this made up fight by toei really changed my mind just like what luffy did to katakuri. i mean kaido the strongest beast in the one piece world getting wooped by luffy and getting knocked down. even i the one who doesnt even read manga knows that this is fake. well all i got to say is THANKS TOEI i will now go read a much more original and sensable manga (apologies for my bad english if there was one)

Same! I am an anime only watcher and I realized that the Luffy vs Kaido fight was just not right. Kaido is a person who tries to commit suicide for fun, and yet Luffy still smacks him around. I am definitely going to switch to manga.
Dude, Kaido wasn't getting whooped by Luffy at all in the anime. It's like in the manga with Kaido letting Luffy throw him around because he was drunk.
Too much drama, these videos divide the fanbase. Personally I enjoyed the effort, got the message and the anime shown plenty of times that kaido wasnt even trying. Luffys personality didn't change. If you read the manga, then you can imagine how he skipped to the sky and punched kaido, anime just showed you what manga couldnt.

This is just like King Kong Gun against Doffy where it became a beam clash instead of the absolutely dominating 'BANG' moment. That punch is supposed to travel as fast as a cannon but instead it was like a blimp.
The difference here is because of media’s goal that is presenting.
The anime plays an episode on TV, therefore it needs to keep viewers enticed for the duration of the episode in order to raise viewing on advertisement and thus making money.
They show Luffy preparing the punch so the viewer continues watching to see the anticipated hit.
Same goes for the impact. As you said, it’s to make it seem as if you don’t know who will come out on top. Again, it keeps the viewer watching to see who wins.
Thanks to these, the channel can put in more ad breaks between them which the viewer will watch in order to see what happens next.
The manga has the freedom because 1) it’s the original source. And 2) it doesn’t need to build reader tension as much, as it’s has already made its dollar from the reader buying the book. Whether they read it or not.
I felt exactly the same and was just crazy bummed out while watching this fight. While all of this amazing stuff is being animated in front of me, I couldn’t help but let out a sigh.
Oh my God what an overreaction. Kaido was never even hurt. The one shot works perfectly well done. The impact was not changed for me. It actually intensified it. It shows how much of an actual monster he is by actually knocking out a KONG GUN like nothing. People took this and blew it way out of propotions. "OH NO KAIDO DIDNT DO IT QUICK ENOUGH!" seriously? Its an anime adaptation and i believe what the manga wanted to convey with that scene was achived. Now if luffy punched Kaido and he threw blood then THAT would be a radical change. But prolonging the battle with luffy giving punches that do NOTHING is still similar to the manga and in no way is a radical change. But noooo everything has to be beat for beat, panel for panel.

It REALLY isnt. The anime adaptation changes the whole atmosphere of not just the fight, but the entire arc, and the world itself. The manga paints emperors as titanic monsters that seem unbeatable and the whole point of the story is to watch the protagonist aka luffy accomplish the impossible task of surpassing them. The whole point of the story is that mr nobody from nowhere luffy has an "impossible" dream to become the pirate king, and against all odds and to the surprise of everyone he has come extremely close to achieving it(and of course we all know in the end he achieves it, but the story isnt finished yet). But the way the anime portrayed it, like the guy said in the video, which you would have picked up on if you were actually listening, is that the fight de-escalates the power of the emperors to albeit extremely difficult, but beatable opponents. It makes them seem a lot less scary and it makes the eventual payoff when luffy beats the crap out of kaido a lot less satisfying. Before you go and leave stupid comments like this that demerit other peoples opinions, maybe try and listen to what they have to say first you imbecile.

Its so gross that someone would do that to something someone else put so much passion and effort and care into just so they could squeeze in more advertisements toei is so fucking scummy.
I understand the studios refusing to go into a seasonal format but is it too much to ask for them to drop down to one episode per 2 weeks? I feel like that would help the pacing tremendously. This fight was one chapter long and was split between two episodes. From what I’ve seen in other shows, usually 3 chapters can be put into ONE episode! When an arc has more episodes than chapters, it just becomes a chore to watch. As for this fight specifically, the anime also effectively changed the outcome of the fight. Luffy tanked hits from kaidos dragon form in the anime, meaning his victory is no longer a “one shot”

Yeah but that was a long while ago when he said that, I believe it was even before or during the beginning of While Cake Island. And I’m pretty sure it’s not referencing power level requirements to beat Kaido but how to take him down in a way that fits the theme of the Wano arc, similar to how Eneru was defeated by being smashed into the bell and Doflamingo is literally punched straight from heaven into the hell he created on Dressrosa.

Oda does not always know how an arc could end. He just thinks of things along the way and makes them have sense. He is really good at it ahahah
For me the anime made it even more clear how big the gap was between them, showing Luffy's explosion of rage and haki after seeing his crew get obliterated, him gearing up and giving it everything he possibly can at his most angry, just for Kaido to blankly stare at him and one hit KO him was insane to me 👌
