2 years ago I bought one from Costco for my wife, who drinks coffee every day. Damn thing died a year in and Keurig sent me a replacement. I asked about sending the old one back and they said just to throw it away. I took the dead one back to Costco and got a 2nd one for our vacation home. That one died after a few months, so I took it back to Costco and got another. Costco returns explained that these things die all the time and said they are like ink jet printers: They are in the business of selling ink, not the printers.
Kohl's has the kduo for 80 dollars every black Friday. I've been using the kduo for 5 years.
Good comparison. I had it in the back of my head whenhe said their machinescould detect off-brand pods like some printers do with ink.
Meanwhile I’ve had mine for years with no problems. The newer ones seem more cheaply made.
It's also possible that Costco is selling knock-offs.
Keurig doesn’t release their machines parts. They want people to keep buying new machines instead of repairing them. Horrible idea…🤬
For about 10 years I've used a reusable kcup that I put my own personally ground coffee into. Enviornment is important but I also can put ANY coffee I want in there. I really enjoy that part of it too.
I dont even care about our environment....were giving our nations away anyways. Plus recycling is a lie...it all gets dumped in the ocean.

You can even buy small paper filters meant for those K-cups on Amazon to make the cleanup easier.
@@brandonkupper9508 Yea. I grind my own coffee and I've found a very corse grind and a few ours to dry out allows me to basically dump it all in the trash without additional filters.
If I do a finer grind that would be very useful. My grind is slightly larger than that you would find in Green Mountain pods, but I put much more of it in there.
If you are looking for a great small coffee company I use Baltimore Coffee Company out of Baltimore MD in the US. Fantrastic coffee with tons of flavored, blended and single source. They sell whole bean, ground and even kcups too.
The entire point of a filter is to filter out the coffee oils that are bad for you
I have a Costco model Keurig at home and i enjoy it! We primarily use the reusable cups and just use whatever pre ground coffee, usually Folgers. The biggest pain point everyone seems to have with them are the k-cups creating waste and the cost, but we rotate 2 reusable cups and haven't really felt the price we pay for coffee at home change that much, if at all.
damn that horrible, you buy an overpriced coffee machine yet use it for low grade swill!
My mom bought a Keurig for both of us a few years ago since we are both huge coffee addicts and it's nice to have a quick cup of coffee without waiting to fill up the coffee pot. It's still working to this day and I will forever be heartbroken if it dies.
Why not do what ordinary people do? Pour yourself a cup of coffee while it is still brewing.

My sister in TN has a nicer home K cup system ☕️ . It's handy but as listed K cups do limit the amount you make & some brands are 😑. Compared to ground coffees.
@@DavidLLambertmobile You use any coffee you want in a keurig with reusable filter. My mom has been doing that for almost a decade!
My mom got a Keurig 2.0 from my sister right when they started the DRM thing. She had no clue about the DRM thing. I managed to get it working with reusable cups, first by using lids from official K-cups, then with a more permanent solution (there was a company that would send out a little thing you put over the sensor to trick it), but the touch screen ended up breaking from water damage.
My mom's thinking of getting a Keurig, so could you tell me the trick in case she gets the 2.0? I appreciate it
@@BeatInMySkull Again, it was a company that was suing Keurig over all this. I don't remember the company's name. But you can just tape the part of a K-cup lid it detects over the sensor. There are a number of videos about this.
Edit: It was Rogers Family Coffee's "Freedom clip." I think they stopped giving them out, but you can find a ton of these kind of clips online, including some that are bundled with reusable pods.
What is DRM?
@@choossuck7653 Digital Rights Management. It's usually in reference to things like games where you need to jump through hoops to install and play the games legally. Keurig's refusal to allow non-branded cups in Keurig 2.0 machines is referred to as DRM, even though the exact meaning doesn't really fit.
You can use reusable cups in the keurig I do all the time my keurig has lasted me 2 years so far but they can get water stuck when needed cleaned and people think they break
I remember being introduced to a Keurig at a church when I worked at the media center. That machine was truly a blessing to have. Now I've owned a Hamilton Beach FlexBrew that does 12 Cups and KCups for the last 3 years. I got it for for $60 at Walmart at the time. It's nice to have both options. Keurig also has one for loyal customers.
Mine started leaking after just over a year and kept getting worse until it was unusable. A shame because that machine is a good idea. Got a free Keurig anyways though when my boss bought a new one for the office and was throwing out the old one, which I nabbed and it works just fine just needed cleaning 😂
I enjoyed the variety packs of k-cups when they first came out but it was pricey and didn’t like the single use plastic. Now I just stick to grinding my own beans and French press..
i am a master roaster of coffee beans, french press is my second favorite way to make coffee

@@scpatl4now surprisingly it depends, for a personal cup i love the pour over, i think coffee is best if it starts from as close to boiling water as possible. making 5 or more cups nothing tastes as good as an old school percolator
I need to get an electric grinder, preferably a burr grinder. Problem is they're expensive af.
I liked that I could make not just coffee but cider tea or hot chocolate so easy. But the quality of some of those are so lacking too.
Never was a huge fan of keurig. It held the promise of convenience, but one look at the cost of the cups and cleaning maintenance that would need to be done to ensure a proper brew was enough to keep me happily invested in more traditional brewing options. Electric kettle, loose leaf tea, and a quality filter bag are all I require to get a nice cup going. It might take a little longer, but if my life can't wait those minutes, I'm doing life wrong.
the cost of the cups tbf can be reduced if you get a quality reuseable coffee filter that fits in those machines
I miss my French press and espresso machine. 😢 as a truck driver I use these stupid k cup machines because truckstop coffee is disgusting.
I use an electric coffee percolator to make my tea and when I clean the pot I use either and vinegar and baking soda solution or just plain old dish soap and water.
I'm a morning ☕️ drinker. I like K machines but there are some -s. I mainly make ground coffee for my simple 4 cup size coffee maker. K cup makers seem way over priced & difficult to clean, sanitize. I toss out my 4 cup makers after 6mo 8mo.
@SovietOmega agreed never a fan of Keurig. I got one for Christmas many years ago. Once if broke a never replaced it lol. I purchased a Stainless Steel French Press. Best coffee you can make!
I’ve been using my Keurig for almost 7 years and I got to say those single use cups were just not my thing. Makes it a bit worse with how it’s difficult to replace parts for it since they changed the design but I’m okay with it not using k-cups and using the reusable ones

I got a Keurig 2.0 for my wedding in 2016. One reason I got the model I did was because it had a 4 cup "carafe" (when I'm working from home, I go through a stupid amount of caffeine). Because the carafe size pods were not commonly available, I ended up using reusable pods (which helps on the waste side as well, since I recycle the grounds into my garden).
Well, the 2.0 would randomly not recognize the reusable pods to the point that I had to hack the machine.
It's an easy mod, I've done it to two machines I've had over the years.
I moved to Nespreso. The cups are aluminum and they give you a free bag with UPS label already attached to mail the used cups to a recycling center.
So we used to be avid keurig users. I used to think it was very convenient... but it did start to be become very expensive, difficult to get the amount of coffee I wanted for certain cups and it was very difficult to clean so we switched over to a normal cheapy little Mr. Coffee machine. We found that we were able to buy WAY more ground coffee for WAY less and we thought it even tasted better! We ended up giving away our Keurig and now have a nice Ninja coffee pot that can make coffee for multiple people at one time and is SUPER easy to clean!
Is that same company as make ninja blender? Keurig do not even register over here (Ireland), I use a nespresso machine and supermarket capsules but the waste annoys me so use a premium instant mostly!

Yep. I had a nice Braun coffee maker which I broke the carafe. Could not find one that fit. I bought a Keurig because I thought it would be cheaper, more efficient and variable. I found that it didn't brew as good coffee and I really didn't switch up my coffee drinking much (Green Mountain was my go-to). So looked for another small coffee maker but could not find one I liked. I ended up getting a Ninja also. Makes great coffee, easily customizable for strength and number of cups. Only downside is make in China.

We used to own a Keurig back in 2016, but I hated the taste of the coffee. I don’t know whether it was the water or maybe just the brand of coffee I was using. we stopped using it and now we use a coffee pour over, and I love it!
Could be the water but more likely the brand. The best in my experience is Green Mountain, Peet’s and Starbucks for example. These are some excellent options.
I (broke college student) personally don’t have a keurig, but my dad had one when i was growing up. He would make his coffee in there every morning and my sister and i would use it to make hot chocolate several times a week. My dad recently switched back to a traditional coffee pot because the keurig has just become too expensive. With inflation and rising prices of goods in general, the keurig cups became more expensive and it just no longer made sense to keep buying them.
I just got one for Christmas and it works for my usage case. I don't make a lot of coffee at home and so buying it in bulk means it goes stale by the time I finish it in a year or so. For the 2 to 3 cups a week I drink at home, it works out to be a better solution for my needs. I kept the drip coffee maker though as it still may have some utility when the cheap plastic Keurig eventually breaks.
I got my mom's old Keurig when I moved out for college in the early 2010s. Pretty much immediately stopped buying K-cups and used a reusable cup with beans I ground myself because it was cheaper. Then I got a french press for like $15 and from then on I used the machine as a hot water dispenser. Then a few years later I just bought an electric kettle.
I still use the one at my office if I don't have time to make coffee at home, but I'm not going back to buying my own K-cups
Had a Keurig in 2012, wore it out. After the DRM debacle of 2014, switched to low-cost competitors with no DRM. Works well enough. Now I am on to Nespresso and regular brew coffee lol
For such a huge company it's interesting that they've never taken off in Europe. Nespresso/Dolce Gusto and Tassimo dominate here in the single use coffee pod markets but Illy, Lavazza and others are growing too and of course some single use and even espresso machines can already use ESE pods.
From my research the Nespresso pods predate Keurig by like 25 years. So the real question is why wasn't Nespresso already established enough in America as not to allow Keurig to come into existence
@@oivinfI think Nespresso is pretty big in the US but a huge factor is Keurig although having different flavors produces mostly American coffee which is weaker compared to European style coffee or an espresso
That's because Europeans have standards for drinking good coffee. I've never had a good cup from a Keurig, but my Nespresso machine is *chef's kiss* every time
I was a Tassimo fan but they have pulled out of the North American market, so I switched to a Keurig. Have to say I get small amounts of coffee grinds from K-Cups which I never did with Tassimo. However once in a blue moon a Tassimo T-Disc would "explode" and send coffee grinds everywhere. But it happened so rarely I could live with it, and the clean up was very simple. Would switch back to Tassimo at the drop of a hat.
I think the Keurig is good whether you're the only coffee drinker in the house or you and others drink different brands of coffee. If you and your roommates/ whoever lives with you uses different brands of coffee, each person should just get their own coffee and reusable K-cup so ya know, you don't waste a whole pot of coffee. I get the Keurig's design and I think it's pretty neat.
@spirals 73 This! People keep complaining about the single use cups and those being expensive. But, all you (and any other coffee drinkers that live with you) have to do is buy a reusable k-cup and a can/ whatever of the coffee you like and that's cheaper in the long run as you can make a cup at a time. Even if you do decide to have more than one, you don't have to rush with drinking the first cup as well, you don't gotta deal with having a whole pot of coffee.
A pot of the same coffee is only worth it if you and others like the same coffee and are all gonna drink a cup or 2 at the same time.
My parents have a machine that uses K-cups (not sure if it's Keurig), but the coffee always tasted burnt. I never thought it was worth getting one if the coffee wasn't good. I can make a pour over cup in about 2 mins, and it's much better tasting and cheaper.
Your parents probably need to descale the machine. I have to do it about every other month - there's videos on here that will walk you through it. Basically you run vinegar through the machine then water. My coffee was tasting weird and when I opened it up it was NASTY, but that's my fault for not cleaning it.
Some k cup brands aren’t good quality and can be cheap. Plenty of quality k cup brands if your willing to spend a bit more.
The #1 place where I see Keurigs: businesses with office workers. It makes sense. A lot of businesses want no-fuss coffee that cleans up easily. You get a fresh cup. At one company, I would see these gigantic lines to the Keurig machine. At one company, they had K-Cup theft and had to stop providing K-Cups. However, many businesses have started to get Keurig alternatives that are fancier.
I like pour-overs. Fresh coffee and you just need hot water.
Price was a huge reason why I never got into K-Cups, and also it's not that flexible. I actually played with different brewing methods, and I actually prefer French Press, but Pour-Over is so much easier to clean. I can also take the filter from the pour-over and put it right into the compostable bin.
I don't see a huge difference between K-Cup and pour-over, though there probably is less chance of an accidental spill with K-Cups, which an office worker environment might prefer
I also prefer pour-over (or french press), but they're a lot more involved. Pour over takes time, you need to heat the water just right, grind the beans (I guess this is optional), clean up, ect. I work from home and enjoy making coffee so its no bother to me, but people who aren't "into coffee" just want to hit a button and be done.
We have a thing where I work that is basically a Keurig, but the coffee is in a pouch. It's worse in every way possible. More waste, never the right amount, a B to clean (not that we have to ourselves, but I've seen it done) and taste is just nasty. Fortunately I'm allowed to have a Mr. Coffee in my office. At least, when I used to GO to an office!
@@ThisOldSkater The office I work at has a hybrid style so I’m there two times a week. We have that same Keurig “pouch” design and I know what you’re talking about, that coffee is absolutely disgusting. Whenever I’m in the office I just bring my own coffee or I’ll buy it if I have to.
Exactly what I was going to say. I have one in my office for my customers, it's perfect for that use, but of course I use it myself too after I finish off my big thermos off coffee I bring in from home each day 😂 At home I have the old one from the office but hardly ever use it, I use my 12 cup pot at home.
So my story starts with inheriting one of the Keurig systems, I started buying the cups at first, but realized that I enjoyed grinding my own fresh coffee. So I purchased some pastic reusable inscert pods and they work really well. I feel I get to use more coffee with less hassle of recycling. The best method is pour over, but I still use the system from time to time.
When Green Mountain bought the company they started doing demos of the products in various retail outlets. I did demos in our local Sears. They sent me a coffee maker and various K-cups for the demonstrations. It was a great gig! So successful that the store manager come over and asked me to stop the demo early because they were sold out of machines and coffee. Made tons of money selling K-cups on eBay in the early days as people didn't know where to get them. Would order from Green Mountain and sell "variety packs". Best comment I got at a demonstration was "It's sounds like your inflating a flat tire but the coffee tastes pretty good!" The early models were loud. I think I have one of those early models in the panty gathering dust. The system is definitely not economical for everyday coffee but is fantastic for having an after dinner cup or when you want a cup of flavored coffee.
Here in Europe, I at least have not even heard of Keurig (but know Dr Pepper), instead I was waiting for you to mention Nespresso in some form (i.e. how they either bought Keurig or took the majority of the market).
So I guess the "k-cup" (we just call them pods) global market is even more interesting, with the likes of Nespresso and Dolce Gusto branded pods not even being mentioned here (these are the biggest ones known at least to consumers in Croatia).

I always prefer the coffee made from a drip system. But I never had time in the morning for it, so it'd just get made automatically but never drank (im the only coffee drinker in the family).
So, as a house warming present, I was gifted a Keurig. I used that thing to actual death (literally the motor broke) but I _never once_ really enjoyed the taste of the coffee as much as the drip machines. Well I got my new Keurig Duo now, which can do both, and i've never been happier. The Single Serve is great for those who want it, and I get my drip coffee. The world is right.
I thought they were silly because of the pods, but I finally got one and got the reusable pod thing. I can put any coffee I want in it, and my kids think it’s fun to use the keurig to make cocoa (again, no pods, just hot water into a cup of cocoa mix). I use less coffee grounds using my keurig when I just want one cup, so in the long run, it’s definitely saving me some money. We still have a regular coffee maker for when we both want coffee or we have company over.
I think it’s a pretty cool idea especially with the fact that you don’t have wasted coffee sitting in a pot
Exactly! Use your own coffee and make exactly as much as you'll need. It's a no-waste product when you don't use single-use pods.
I mean you can always make less than a full pot, use a thermos, add the little bit that's left to a fresh pot...
You are not required to create a full carafe of coffee with a traditional drip brewer.

I used to have a keurig but it broke twice. Got a nespresso machine and really like it. Been using for 2 years so far and so good. Also like the fact that they’re recyclable aluminum pods. Know it’s not a perfect solution, but definitely beats single use plastic
Me and my wife have one, but we try not to use pods. We have their refillable pod for use with pre ground beans. For us it’s still faster than making normal coffee and we get to customize our coffee to our liking, strength, temperature, and to the size of our mug. It saves us tons of money and it’s the coffee we like. Use it responsibly and it won’t be harmful on the environment.
As a person who doesn't drink coffee everyday...I LOVE the Keurig machine....I can have a single cup of coffee, hot chocolate, or my favorite different types of tea...I guess if I drank coffee like my mother did 6-8 cups a day...I'd go with a regular pot....but as a one cup of different things when the mood strikes me.... My Keurig can't be beat.
Keurig struggles because it's a neat idea making a single cup of coffee, but I have never understood it. Especially since there's now special fancy coffee makers that can make 1 cup on the side now. So it kinda makes them pointless
My roommate had a Keurig, and we bought a K-cup sized filter basket that you could load your own coffee into.
I must’ve saved several hundred dollars brewing coffee this way for only a year.
keurige has the same thing, mine can make pots of coffee or single cups
We bought a Keurig machine with a small reservoir that holds about four 8oz cups of water. I get the 120 count of Kroger's 100% Colombian coffee for $29.99. This equals to $0.25 cents per 8oz serving, add a little sweet cream and pour it into my plastic reusable Starbuck's tumbler and off I go. The box does indicate instruction on to recycle and now that I viewed another of your excellent videos, I'm going to start recycling as well. Overall very inexpensive. Great video, thanks again.

I didn't realize the company had been around for years before Keurig became more widespread and "affordable." I'm not willing to spend that much money on a machine. Thankfully, I found a more affordable, off brand option. I also didn't realize that Green Mountain Coffee bought them out.

I love coffee, hate Keurig. We used them when visiting my mother, and for a short time, my wife had one her friend gave us. But she replaced it with a simple plastic filter basket and now when she wants a single cup, she makes her own pour over, which tastes better and is much cheaper.
So many methods of brewing coffee. Simple pour over, espresso machine you use over the stove, french press, drip coffee maker. All relatively simple, and you can use whatever coffee you like or happens to be on sale.
But along comes someone who wants to make it much more expensive, and destroy the environment,. And it isn't even all that convenient, and the coffee is mediocre at best.
Yeah you pretty much sum it up there. Probably 4 times the cost of regular ground coffee, tastes like plastic, and creates unnecessary waste. I do the old drip coffee maker, and even on occasion crack out the old school percolator that was my parents and is probably from the 1990's and still makes better coffee than a Keurig, yes even percolated coffee which is notoriously sub par.
I managed to get one from a Black Friday sale a few years ago. The customizable feature is good but overall I wasn't satisfied. K-cups are not cheap and this thing requires more cleaning than any other appliance I own. I ended up gifting it to someone else. Cool concept and I'm sure it's a good product for many, I'm just not one of those people
I think Keurig has not made it to Europe, I've never heard their name. We have Nespresso (from Nestlé), with a very similar system and a similar kind of story (environmental issues, expensive system overall and patent expiration that has lead to a new format of capsules to avoid competition). Hasn't Nespresso arrived to the US? I found it weird to not see them even mentioned here!
I have checked Wikipedia and the Nespresso system seems to be older than Keurig, patented in 1976!
We have Nespresso. Here it's marketed as the more upscale alternative to the Keurig. I have one of each which is funny considering I rarely drink coffee
Oddly enough I remember working retail across from the Keurig holiday display when the 2.0's first came out and remembering the returns were primarily for leakage. The units weren't as water tight or maybe the plastic lines inside we're not connected well enough. I was gifted my sister's roommate's B145 (or so) and that thing worked like a champ. Donated it when I got a duo for my birthday and it was still going at 6 years old maybe! I grind and use a reusable filter since I prefer a very bold coffee. Valhalla Java in my 18 oz tankard!
I've owned a Keurig for years now and absolutely love it! I love it even more since they (or a third party) introduced the reusable filter. Way cheaper overall and better for the environment. 👍
I got a Classic Keurig for me and my dad for christmas a year ago. It's the best 100 dollars I have ever spent. We just love it.
Hard to just not make a pot for half the price.
You can use regular coffee grounds in a reusable k cup and make as many or as few cups as you want
@@KaitouKaiju That works, but at that point, it's just drip coffee with extra steps. A normal drip coffee maker makes more practical sense on every point. Subjectively however, if the flavor that comes out the other end of that process is your jam, then so be it!
for me I use a k-cup machine for if I have guests at home. I don't drink coffee myself and the 1 or 2 cups every month makes sense. But in this I am more a exception than the norm.
I adore my Keurig! I use the re-usable basket and just buy regular old coffee from my local shop. Tastes fantastic and only makes enough for the cup at hand - win win! And next to no excess plastic waste 🙌🏾
I had several different Keurig competitors coffee makers and they never lasted me very long. I finally broke down and bought a Keurig and it has lasted me three times longer than the other machines I had. A while back, I started to have concerns about the k-cups I was using. One day when I was at Walmart, I saw a refillable K-cup and bought it. It quickly found out that it is a lot cheaper. Also, I am helping to save the environment one cup of coffee at a time.
I bought my Keurig in 2013 and loved it, I still do. It is considerably expensive to operate if you use official licensed K-Cups. As suck I don't use it much anymore and instead use a drip coffee maker except for the rare occasion I want to treat myself or I pick up some cheap off-brand K-Cups to use instead. K-Cups are terrible for the environment though due to the plastic waste. It's a tedious process to separate the plastic from the lid and filter and so not many consumers will go through this process as it's simply not convenient. And even if they did, recycling varies by city and region as to what products they will recycle.
I like the idea of a single cup with a variety of coffees if you have a lot of company over but it’s a shame how bad it is for the environment. I had one when I lived alone and it was perfect for just me but I got a reusable pod and bought normal coffee. I did love that little machine while I had it though.

Keurig Duo 2 with recusable k-cups and a reusable coffee filter is the way to go. The newer keurig lines (after keurig 2.0) are all built to really high quality and brew very nicely. I only use high quality coffee too.
My family are still using the same Keurig from 10 years now and it still works... It's louder but it still works.
I don't drink coffee but I do use it for ramen noodle cups and hot chocolate.
They use reusable k cups and buy coffee bags.
My husband loves his Keurig. I prefer my espresso machine. But I grind his coffee, we don’t use pods!
I was gifted a small unit several years ago. It died about 3-4 months into ownership. I purchased a larger mid-sized unit to replace it. It was high adventure. Sometimes it worked. And then there was the cost of the cups. I gave up on all of it soon after and have been back to using a teakettle and the pour-over method for each cup ever since. It’s a better experience, (nothing to break) and a better cup of coffee.

I was skeptical about using a Keurig at first because I didn't know it's ground coffee in the pods. I thought it was syrup. 🤣 Anyway, when I learned about how it works, I accepted a hand-me-down Keurig and got a reusable K-Cup ASAP and have only been using my own freshly ground coffee ever since owning it. That was a few years ago.
I admit to using Keurig in many offices over many years, but never ever at home. Here I have a smaller style espresso machine, a thermal carafe coffee maker and even a simple ceramic pour over and I'm quite happy with those options, especially since grinding your own coffee is really the only way to go. Some day I can see myself actually roasting my own. Now we're talking.
i feel that some people only buys keurig because is a different coffee machine, rather than the ones we all have used, it looks more profesional and fancy
Dear Company Man, Thank you for another interesting piece. Every company I have worked at for the last 10+ years has KEURIG machines, some are unused next to the large bulk drip systems, many are stashed away in overhead cupboards in the kitchen, and a few of those are being used by a percentage of the firms employees. What does this mean, it means that much like the CUISINART, these machines fulfill a valid function at a specific cost reaching a "fad" status, then eventually the bulk of them end up in Goodwill stories for pennies on the dollar. For myself I have tried them, disliked the coffee and do not use them, I have never purchased one of the machines, I prefer to acquire fresh quality beans, grind them, and espresso my own coffee, it is cheaper in the long run than KEURIG's and has significant flavor advantages.
For 50 years I drank coffee that was always bad by noon. I bought my first Keurig probably 10 years ago and haven't had a bad cup of coffee since. As to the recycling, I probably don't do a great job cleaning out the grounds, but all the data shows that recycling has little real environmental impact anyway. It mainly just makes people feel good about themselves.
Seems like everything is something that is intended to make people feel good but doesn't actually mean anything.
I have two older Keurigs that I rescued from an upscale thrift store dumpster and after a thorough cleaning they’re still kicking after two years! I use reverse osmosis water from my home spigot, so I never have to descale them. I try to buy brands of K-cups that are compostable so that when it goes in a landfill it’ll decompose properly.
Keurig has become a catch-all phrase for the single use coffee machine. Like Kleenex to tissue.
As an aussie i have never heard of this brand. To us down here all these machines are coffee pod machines. So pod coffee is our catchall.
Never heard of Keurig until today (from Europe). Everyone here are familiar with Nespresso pods, and just call them that generally. They also predate the Keurig by a quarter century
I love mine. We buy the pods from Costco and I only buy them when they are on sale. I drink two a day. Which means I spend 56 cents a day on my coffee habit. Well worth it!
I buy a few K cup brands. I can't stand any "Green Mountain" ☕️ type K cups 🚫. Ever since 2013 or so. There are many + K cup coffee & tea, hot cocoa flavors. I like a few brands.
I have been living on my own for a little over 12 months now and I got a Keurig machine from my sister, it was really really old (a bit over 10 years) It was a couple and a half weeks before Christmas last year till the machine finally broke down…. As a what seemed to be a temporary solution to the problem until I would get gifted a new Keurig machine for Christmas……. My mom and I picked up a kettle for boiling water at Walmart, and we picked myself up some instant coffee….. fast forward to current day, I’m still favouring the boiling water in my kettle and using instant coffee, I’m a fan more of putting as much or little instant coffee in my mug to determine the strength of the coffee…. I liked using the Keurig but I like using my kettle more to adjust how strong or weak the taste of the coffee is, and I’m planning on using my kettle for the foreseeable future

I have one that was shown at the end with a coffee pot as well as the k cup part and it works well, if I wake up late for something I can make a pod but if I'm making coffee for the fam then just a whole pot of coffee; I also have a Costco membership so we buy one pods on bulk for like $30 for a 30 pack and lasts for like a year at my house.
I do have to admit that coffee out of a K-cup tastes _far_ superior to that of your standard drip coffee maker using pre-ground coffee, even when the latter is fresh from brewing and hasn't been sitting on the burner for a while.

I love the keurig concept. I get 96ct donut shop blend for 17cents a cup from walmart. I want a better system in place to recycle the cups. I like being able to always have a hot fresh cup of coffee
I just checked Walmart and it is listed at $55.41 which turns out to be 58 cents a pod. Costco generally sells the same for $40-$45. Sometimes they go on sale for ad little ad $33-$35. About 35 cents per pod. Just replying because I drink the same Keurig coffee and thought I’d give you a heads up!

i love my keruig, i’ve had the keruig mini + since 2018. i love the k-pods & all the flavors. it does get expensive but it’s cheaper than the starbucks drink i get so it’s a win for me ☕️
I got a hand-me-down. It’s a very simple one and super easy to use. But I love mine. I can use it to heat water for just tea or use the cups to make the coffee I want when I’m low on time. Also there’s reusable cups to buy (I do not use this personally but I see them in the store)
Literally every Keurig I’ve ever had has broken. Their customer service has always been good, they will send me new parts or even a new machine, no questions asked. But eventually I bought a Hamilton Beach knockoff and it’s lasted me the past 6 years, zero problems.
I get the idea of the Keurig in an office environment, totally share the frustration of others leaving the last four drips in the pot and not making another, or making a stinky pot of pumpkin spice coffee. But at home, the Keurig seemed really wasteful so I passed on it.. I have a mill and a drip machine. Good coffee every day, minimal effort. The grounds and paper filter are biodegradable and the bag the beans came in is recyclable. So when I read that Sylvan himself agreed about all the extra garbage the Keurig generated I felt vindicated. Having said that, I've had coffee made with a Keurig and it wasn't bad. It is a pretty cool invention.

I’m Italian so I use a Nespresso, the nice thing about their pods is they give you a bag to fill with their metal pods and all you do drop it off at UPS for shipping
Had a Keurig for years. In december I switched over to a Nespresso machine. Day and night difference in quality and flavor. Keurig is like drinking brown water compared to Nespresso. The nespresso pods are actually recyclable.
After discovering specialty coffee and channels like James Hoffman and MorganDrinksCoffee I'll never go back to single-use cups again. Not that I ever owned a machine, but my work office sites always had them so that was the only option. I like the morning ritual of boiling water, measuring and grinding beans (just wish my Baratza Encore was quieter), and pulling out the French or Aeropress. I also have an attachment at the end my Aeropress so there's no need to use the paper filters. Some people might scoff at measuring beans and water but having that morning routine really helps to feel like there's some structure to the day.
Loved the convenience of a Keurig for a few years but I recently went back to a drip pot at home. Keurigs are nice at work, though. It has its place and it depends on how much of a coffee drinker you are. Keurig's are also nice to get quick hot water, too. However, if you're the type of coffee drinker who is very particular about strength and has multiple cups a day, I'd suggest a traditional drip pot.
K coffee makers are handy for 1, 2 quick cups 🥤 but I prefer ground style coffee from a 4 cup brew maker. I use a travel mug at work, 10-12oz mugs ☕️ in my apt.
@@DavidLLambertmobile Yep...I only ever had a dual machine (regular drip brewer + single cup brewer) so I have definitely given K-cups a fair shake, but even without all the drawbacks of the k-cup ecosystem that caused to switch to Senseo , the main reason I would never have gone full K-cup was that every day I brew a 20oz (Venti) cup/mug/thermos and sip on it pretty much all morning whether I'm working from home or going to the office. I like it STRONG too, so that would break out to 3-5 pods I'd have to brew either all in a row or coursed out throughout the morning. It would be anything BUT convenient (not to mention expensive)...

My mom has a Keurig. I have a Hamillton Beach machine that takes the K-cups, myself. Both work wonderfully, and if I ever had the chance to meet Mr. Sylvan, I'd shake his hand and thank'im for making such an invention. As much as I like my coffee, I like it made fresh when I want a cup instead of sitting out in a pot all day getting cold and tasting skunky.
I've had a Keurig since 2013 and I love it. Very convenient not just for coffee but also tea and I've also used some apple cider k-cups as well.

I received one of these machines as a Christmas gift. It's a lot more convenient than using a pot and having to clean it. Like others though, I don't buy K-Cups, I use my own coffee in a refillable K-Cup. Much cheaper that way.
I got a keurig around the time this small online coffee company that sold K-Cups was doing this promotion to win a Motorola Xoom tablet in 2011. I used it for a little bit, but the more i cleaned it the more the vinegar taste never went away. I work in the environmental industry these days so I avoid them like the plague, also its extremely satisfying to grind my own beans and make my own espresso.
I bought mine used. I bought a office model that can be adopted to water refresh with a small float assembly. Keuric now markets Corning and a host of house hold products.
Every tech company I worked for in the 2010s had Keurigs, with endless complimentary k-cups. Absolute piles of the little spent cups being hauled out by the cleaning staff each day. Can only imagine how the work-from-home movement affected Keurig; I'll stick to my kettle and a pour-over.
I have a Keurig, and honestly, I find it way cheaper. I love Dunkin' Coffee, but $3.70 for a medium hot coffee was too pricey. So I bought my Keurig and always find Dunkin pods for an average of $1 or less per pod at the supermarkets.
I have a Keurig. It saved my marriage (j/k but my husband liked coffee so strong you could stand a spoon up in it!).
My #1 concern about Keurig is the environmental impact. I agree, most people won't take the time to disassemble the pods, and dump the grounds, and yadayada). I am glad that my (wimpy wannabee) coffee doesn't have plastic pods. I think the "plastic" ring is made of corn-starch (or something!). Glad they are biodegradable.
Wish more companies did that but I'm sure the plastic is cheaper.
I had a tassimo machine and then a keurig back between 2013-14. I got tired of the price the the taste and bad brewing options out of the tassimo and also got tired of the cost of the discs. I tried to sell the machine on Kijiji but I ended up giving it away for free to someone instead of throwing it out. Then got a Keurig machine. The brewing options were better but the cost of the pods started adding up. Got the official keurig ground coffee pod replacement and it made garbage coffee. Then discovered one of those reusable solo pod do-dads and low and behold, it made decent coffee, for awhile. Then I realized the internals of the machine degrade over time, and even with regular maintenance and cleaning it started tasting worse and worse. Got a simple drip coffee maker for $40 at canadian tire and started grinding my own beans after my dad sent me a grinder for Christmas and never looked back. When im camping or on the road I use a good old french press. But I'll never go back to a disposable single use machine ever again. If I want a single cup of coffee i'll use a premium instant coffee. But I work construction. So I brew a pot in the morning, add my cream and sugar right into the pot when its done, and pour it right into my thermos. Lasts the whole day.
My mom got me a Keurig for my college dorm in 2015. I still use it, but now I have a pack of reusable K-cups so I just fill it with coffee grounds because its cheaper then buying the pods and its less waste
I use mine strictly for hot water for my cup of noodles in my camper. The compact design fits perfectly on Mike a counter and I just strap it down with velcro.
I’ve had my machine now for almost 8 years. No issues and works fine with regular cleaning of k-cup compartment. Only issue is the the kcups can be expensive unless you use reusable cups.
Usually I grind my own beans for drip brewing and espresso, but I knew someone who was elderly who was given a Keurig because it was easy to use and didn’t require lifting a heavy pot or carafe of water to fill the coffee maker. It made great sense in that context. Keurig provided great customer service, too; because at least two machines failed and were replaced-but all that Keurig requested be returned was a single part without which the old machine was rendered completely unusable and irreparable. That protected Keurig from an old machine being repaired after they replaced it anyway (I doubt that that would have happened) but since Keurig didn’t even offer to accept the return of the failed machine, it went into the trash.
I was an early promoter of Keurig, doing demos of it in various stores over a decade ago around 2008/2009. I like the basic machine, but I do not use kcups. I personally use the My K-Cup adapter and buy the big containers of coffee.
Yea.. I don’t even buy the K-cups. When I first got my Keurig machine and by week two I had to buy another box of K-cups is then I realized “oh HELL NO! WE NOT GONNA BE BUYING THESE BOXES OF K-CUPS! NO WE NOT DOING THAT!!” So to fast forward, I use the resuable filter cup, it’s the best!! I have 4 of them.😊
Bought a Cuisinart, no K-Cup recognition problems and it's lasted for several years.
Last thing I need is DRM for my food.
I use it for the convenience as I only consume one to two cups of coffee per day.
I use a reusable self fill cup.
I peel off the top and compost the filter and grounds. No excuse to send the grounds to the landfill, you can spread it around your lawn. I bring the plastic #5 cups to the towns recycling after a quick rinse, but I wonder if they're really recycling them. The only thing that goes to the landfill is the aluminum top. I'd recycle that if I knew where to send it, but I wouldn't rinse it.
They make it sound like a "easy peel" foil lid is some kind of massive achievement. The little coffee creamer cups have had them for decades.
I love the keurig it’s fast, clean , delicious and has a ton of variety. I go thru around 5 a day when im working and probably 10 a day on the weekend.
So glad you mentioned the Keurig Kold. That was a train wreck nearly everyone saw coming and couldn't look away.
I had one, got rid of it, found it that if you didnt flushed it with white vinegar, every couple of weeks, either the internal plumbing would either get clogged up with sediments from the water and also sometimes bacteria would grow inside it
Switch to a french press, eady to clean, not as fast but you can adjust the amount you want
I love my Keurig. My first one lasted for 6 years and my latest one is great. I have a subscription with a local company and use the reusable one.
