Funny. first time backpacker. camping. hiking. backpacking. - Розваги
I keep going back and forth on the satellite communication. Idk just can’t commit on one. 🤷🏼♂️
If I hiked in more remote areas,I'd consider one. I live in NC, seems like most areas I'm in either have cell service or a decent amount of other hikers, so I can't commit to one.
I solo hike and camp most of the time so I settled on the Garmin InReach Mini. If you leave Bluetooth off until you need it the battery should last 2 days. But bring a backup charging battery just incase.
If you do buy the InReach Mini get newer gen2.
@@Dfgbuiiyyyybb I just leave my inReach off unless I need to send something, it lasts months that way.
Inreach mini is the way to go..love that it works with my Garmin watch too. Peace of mind for my family and friends and for me as well.
I never had sat communication, so far I've always just used my scouts compass for wayfinding. Anyone who can convince me otherwise?
I have most of these, but as the mom of a toddler, they're mostly buried under the MOST important hiking emergency gear: SNACKS. All the snacks. All the time.
The short clip are a great addition to the channel.
Always bring an emergency whistle! They’re pretty small but really loud! You can clip it on your bag, and some hiking bags have them built in, which is neat. Btw these are used to help search and rescue find you if you get lost.
Good list. Having a poop kit handy and not at the bottom of your pack is helpful too
Awesome, thank you so much for these quick essentials to have on hand when going hiking.
Was hopin for the loop&you delivered👑 thanks for the tips
Hello 👋 Dan, thank you for sharing the essentials for backpacking. Stay safe out there. 😊
Thanks
I always keep my knife either on my bag shoulder strap or on my hip
Cuz you really need a knife at a moments notice emergency situation right
I just got 1 of those bottles. Thanks my friend.
I got stuck at Mt. Katahdin In the middle of the night with a dead flashlight and no water filter, those are the biggest ones for me.
im a vagabond, you carry much more than i do.
GREAT ideas…. 👍🏼👠👣
Well looped
Great info!!!
A caveat with the satellite communicatior or PLB is consider what type of terrain you're on.
Reason being if there's a chance you can slide downhill and generally speaking get beat to f--- by the terrain there's a solid chance that anything attached to your or your rucksack is going to get shredded and / or ripped off.
Just a thought.
Thanks for this for for thought. I know if I stream cross I put mine in a bag in my pocket in case i must ditch pack if swept under. Think ill start doing same with side hilling
FINALLY An influencer suggesting an EPIRB (satellite emergency beacon). Most hikers/campers will spend more on their shoes than what an EPIRB costs. When it’s literally a life saving device it’s very cheap.
Most important thing is a whistle, we’ve established this over 100 years of city people going into the bush. Your sat garbage can die but a whistle never needs batteries.
Yea definitely make sure you know where your head lamp is.👍😎
Why is your first aid yellow and not the standard red? Or the black box orange?
Green is the standard
Nice!
Whats in the first aid that youll need right then is there a tourniquet on it for a compound fracture my point is its ok to be in side ur bag a blister wont kill you, but if ur worried get yourself a R.A.T.S. tourniquet keep it in your hip pocket
great video! what headlamp is that??
And lastly, An automatic 12 Guage shotgun. Or the "Bear be Gone 2000".
A satellite communicator is a must carry item? What have we come to as hikers that we feel this is a must have piece of equipment.
Can’t put a price on peace of mind. Wouldn’t go anywhere without mine, even fishing/hunting trips.
You will wish you had one if you have a medical emergency in the middle of nowhere.
You'll keep saying that right up until the moment you get lost or badly injured. Be responsible and leave the manly bravado at home.
Would you give opinion on Layon sleeping pad?
Respectfully, I think Gray Bearded Green Berets categories are better: He talks about needs first and goes from there.
Some things he would always include
Navigation (always to include a compass)
Signal capability
Water filtration
At least 2x ways to make a fire (preferably one that is easy such as a lighter)
First aid (always to include a tourniquet (TQ)
“Something to sleep under, something to sleep on, something to sleep in”
I feel like a lot of essentials lists can be controversial but these are actually all essential!
Nice info
I'm an ultralight backpacker and I find traditional backpacking very boring. With that being said, I absolutely enjoy living vicariously through Dan Becker LOL.
Love the channel and all the new stuff!!!
What’s boring
How tf do you look like discount John krasinski
Finally someone else notices, I think it’s the mannerisms, and he just looks a (barely) bit similar
Should get a medical sticker, white cross red background, for that bag. What if your friend was color blind and you had to tell them what the bag looked like
They can read it
Amen!
Nice rain jacket. Where can I buy that same one?
Another one he never put on here was toilet paper 👌
Because….what? What was the reason! We will never know…
Yeah, he said "because" in the end so it would segway smoothly to the beginning of the video again, which you probably already understood. I like the dude and his videos, so nothing against him, but I'm really not a fan of this "design pattern". It just promotes and elevates this already annoying looping video-thing that's around everywhere nowadays.
Just came across your videos, where is your family from I see we have same last name. My becker part of the family is from South Africa . How about you?
I like to have bear spray accessible
i would change the headlamp to the bear spray. You know when it is about to get dark, and i keep mine in the inside pocket of the lid
Bearline
I'm down with everything that you mentioned except for the water filter unless it has some type of sanitizing function and it would have to be a chemical sanitizing chlorine or iodine pills anything else is just a crapshoot and you're really just dependent upon the water supply not the water filter making the water potable or not
What about food?
Find out about the 10 C's for survival!!!
Is night vision good?
That's nice but you forgot 2. Always carry a compass and a map a topo map. Having battery operated gadgets is cool. But what if all your battery operated tools fail? It's a big word but it never hurts to have a backup.
What if the paper map or compass get damaged? You know some dude hundreds of years ago whenever he saw a person with a map and compass was saying "what if the map gets damaged or the compass is destroyed? Everyone should know how to navigate by the stars!"
@@jeeden I can. And I'm going to orientate myself pretty well. Not everyone can though but a lot of people you hear about it every year get lost in the woods in a national park by being stupid. I don't have problems with smartphones GPS etc it's just when I grew up that's all you had was map and a compass and things are known to fail I've never had a compass or a map fail I got a map pretty wet one time.
Keep the map and compass in a ziplock bag.
@@andrewksadventures when that occurred ziplock bags weren't around yet. And neither was lamination. That makes me kind of old. And now I do laminate my maps the compass is pretty much water resistant.
@@davidhardison8964 Aha! I was thinking it was recent. I think I must predate ziplocks as well! I have used just regular bags prior, though not as good. You sound experienced & proficient, I was mainly addressing your critic in this chat!
Carson Daily goes camping.
Bear 🐻 spray
Lol the only thing that is essential out of your 5 things is the water filter.
I bikepacked the 3,000 mile Tour Divide route with no first aid kit. Only carried a spot tracker because I was racing. I still do multi-day trips regularly without both items. Fear=Gear
Not using the Katadyn anymore?
Sure I do. I just am constantly testing new stuff.
I do have to say as someone who's used both, the lifestraw 1L soft bottle/filter is just so meh. Watch MyLifeOutdoors' review on it and you will see why. Great filter, but poor design in that you can't filter all of the water in the bottle.
I'd add in zip lock bags and a knife.
How about the ability to read a map and use a compass? Never see that one. I do not know how in the hell I and my 4 cousins did a through hike of the AT 37 years ago without a GPS. Must have been blind luck.
What kind of adventure is that?!? Lol
I didn't know John Krasinski is into outdoor stuffs..
Titanium flask and waterproof weed container. ESSENTIAL.
what rain jacket is that???
Patagonia Torrentshell
What about bear spray or a bear banger
Forgot something to disinfect water. After all 3 days without it ain’t gonna look nice
Carson Daily's bro?
Carson Daily ?
Follow the ten essentials.. leave the GPS thingy at home.. Believe it or not. You don't need it.
A Glock 19 . And not because of bears or lions .
Yikes $400 for a satellite communicator I’ll just stay lost.
Where is pam?
A firearm self defense class and some kind of daily self assessment of your Body instant emergency survival skills for things that can & do happen when we least expect due to things like nature accidents with weather and other unexpected unexplainable incidents that may cost a instant loss of some or all Food essential needs & electrical technology or unexpected sneaky wild animal encounter that may cause you choose or to run for your life for your own safety into a unknown location & trip & fall down a hill sinkhole water fall etc. & fall unconscious for a period of time and not knowing if you have a self injury minutes or hours later & would be important to have knowledge of certain plants plan B survival skills to help your injury emergency food and the correct steps to increase your chances of surviving & be rescued
red pouch? wtf yellow?
Don’t forget “mountain money “
........meth?
@@farstrider79 not sure why this has me laughing hysterically but thanks.
A satellite communicator is NOT essential gear. You saying that makes me think you are secretly getting sponsored by the brand you always show us.
Only not essential if you a worst case scenario happens and you don't want to increase odds of a good outcome. Sure people have hiked for hundreds of years, but a lot have not survived ... It's just insurance
Hey! Don’t forget that Jesus Christ loves you and he died for you have a blessed day ❤️❤️
Add something to start a fire.
Don’t forget to exercise your 2A rights. It’s getting crazy out there today. Stay vigilant. 🇺🇸
That medical kit doesn’t need to be accessible at a moments notice. There’s nothing in there to help in an emergency. Take your time putting on your moleskin and get a real first aid kit!
Forgot the wax pen
Aaron Rodgers got hurt and now does camping videos?
No knife and no lighter...
Why would anyone with backpacking gear need a knife? It’s not bushcraft.
@@benjaminneumann3687 Are you being serious?
Americans need special gear for walking...
1. IFAK
2. Cell Phone
3. Lighter and steel mess cup
4. Poncho
5. Flashlight
Edit: 6. CCW for s****s and giggles.
A thousand times cheaper, and just as functional. With a little knowledge you don’t need all that expensive BS.
You forgot the knife bro 😊
a gun enough to STOP a BEAR
Lost 95% of viewers with satellite communicator. 🤣
I find your lack of trauma medical equipment disturbing.
If in Colorado bear spray
What is up with all these wham bam thank you mam videos? Someone keeps forgetting to hit record or something?
Many thanks for the reminder and for the links in the Description. 😎👍🏻🏕️
A kukri machete, dyneema tarp, Evernew 1 litre pasta pot, 500ft of paracord and a fire starter is all I need on my 2190 miles Appalachian trail.
I don’t carry any of this crap. Except the filter and headlamp
I feel like half the point of backpacking is no contact.... The communicator just seems like a gimmicky gadget...... Unless you are doing super risky free climbing or nature parkour multiple days out I think it's not necessary.
You do not need a global communication device.
Just tell people before you leave. Life has risks
a lighter or two.
Hey! Don’t forget that Jesus Christ loves you and he died for you have a blessed day ❤️❤️
