Greetings. These technology demonstrators look like "Dreadnought" and forget the principles of combined arms warfare with drones and RWS with 30mm cannons..
They are well equipped with modular armour and if you watch the video you can see that their designers have take the "drones threat" seriously. The tank is not dead yet..

I think I did not explain myself well, the function of the MBT is ground combat and the weight of the defense against the air threat (drones, fighters, etc.) is the task of the EW, anti-aera units. That the MBT, APC / IFV have a RWS with a 40mm LAG with Airburst ammunition and laser-guided micro missiles to have self-defense against drones, I see it as technically viable and necessary. My criticism goes more towards the "equipment" and "multifunctionality" of the current technological demonstrator MBTs: drones to explore (function of the IRS units) anti-aircraft cannon (function of the C-UAS unit) ...

Nevertheless we have to note that all the MBTs demonstrated by KNDS namely Leo2A8 and Leo2 ARC 3.0 as well as the Leclerc EVO and EMBT take into serious account lessons learned from recents conflicts so all in all the swift towards better protected, albeit more expensive MBTs is the way forward for all the manufacturers. Stay tuned for the presentation of more MBTs and IFVs from Eurosatory 2024.
