Best sounding drumkit: Huub Jansen Best dynamics: Huub Jansen Best overall performance: Huub Jansen etc..... Just listen to his rolls compared to the rolls of York and Antolini......... Don´t get me wrong, I also like and appreciate the work of Charlie Antolini and especially Pete York.....but Huub is definitely a class of his own. Sadly the first time I heard of Huub Jansen was after he already passed away.
These three apparently played a circuit of jazz festivals together as a tag team. What I liked: they obviously are enjoying themselves, are freestyling but know each other well, and really show the musicality of the drums. There are no losers in this "battle".
Wow!!! I truly love this!!!!! That's some awesome drumming...Buddy Rich Style and Gene Krupa and many more from that era. It's so nice to see these three great drummers playing like this.. Where has this kinda drumming gone?? I love today's drumers too of course but this is absolutely brilliant too!!!!
Charly is definitely a great one but I'm not going to be fooled by his double kick and some old tricks rather worth of a Jan Paice show (also a great drummer imho, but not the point here)... In fact Huub got them all, and exclusively by means of some fabulous chops!!! Too bad he's gone. RIP Huub
Three Great Drummers from Europe here !! I am An Antolini man , But I must say that for me here in this battle Huub Janssen take the Lead !! He is realy great here. I think Pete York is getting behind ! but this is ofcorse just my Opinion. Great overall playing
too bad a full concert, complete with "conductor," couldn't have been arranged somehow with this trio. I loved catching the actual style of each of them. Charly and that "kluk, kluk..." fabulous.
"Den Besten Schlagzeuger" gibt es meiner meinung einfach nicht. Es gibt dafür einfach zu viele Musikgenres! Man kann zwar immer zwischen den Genren Einordnen, aber das ist auch wieder Ansichtssache !
York is a non-melodic show drummer without extraordinary skills but he presents again and again world class drummers and gives them the necessary room for their power. In the 70ies and 80ies you would have hardly found someone in Europe who would have ruled Charly Antolini, you should listen to some CDs during the decades and you´ll find out Janssen is a n00b against Antolini. :)
I watched a lot of solos by Mr. Antolini, one of the most competent and capable drummers in the world, especially in the 80s and 90s. But Hub Jansen is on a different level, leave it at that, he is a leftist with a special traditional grip, watch how he keeps pace, and look at how difficult it was to answer Mr. Antolini, in a word, Jansen is in the class of PA Jones and Bernard Rich - unconditional fact.
traditional grip was borne out of necessity because marching snare drummers had to tilt the drum to play. thus if they used matched grip, their wrist would be bent in an awkward position. On the drumset, tilting the snare drum is not needed and that's why most drummers use matched grip. technically the match grip is superior to the traditional grip. if he wants to use the traditional grip with the right hand, and he's fine with it. just let him. does it bother you that much?
all three of these guys are great but pete york surprised me, i mean, he's an excelent drummer but he didn't show much potential here for some reason idk carma i guess lol XP
Huub Janssen is definitely the best of these three. Allthought i'm not really impressed by these drummers. They are good, don't get me wrong. But the thing that would make the difference in quality of these drummers is the accents they play between their many hits. Especially Charly Antolini fails there in my opinion. Huub Janssen definitely is the best because he still has a fill with not only his normal hits, but his accents even are a fill on their own too. Sorry to be not 100% enthousiastic.
Hubb is normally faster than that, watch "stick tricks" to see what I mean. Pete is getting worse with age. I've seen him live with cozy powl and was better than Hubb could ever be.
Pff... noone knows Janssen, but Antolini was Europe´s leading drummer for at least two decades!! You should simply listen to his early albums "drum beat" and "soul beat" from the 60s - even at this early stage Janssen can go into retirement in comparison to Antolini! Listen to 3:50 or 7:14 and you find 0,5% of why Charly blew out the brains of thousands of drummers. Antolini RULEZ! Just watch /watch?v=pHiPIM_vuAc ...

Huub is tops for sure.
Agreed! He was a beast!

Lifetime drummer here. Huub is absolutely incredible here, to me his technique puts the others to shame. What a showman too.

Huub was a heck of a drummer. He had style and technique.
Fabulous playing, control of dynamics and tone yet pushin on to the limits.

Great drum battle! Thanks for posting!
it means that you basically can coordinate anything because each of your 4 limbs are independent.
RIP Huub
my 2 year old's new favorite vid. he's the next Huub Janssen, as if that were possible.

"Den Besten Schlagzeuger" gibt es meiner meinung einfach nicht. Es gibt dafür einfach zu viele Musikgenres! Man kann zwar immer zwischen den Genren Einordnen, aber das ist auch wieder Ansichtssache !
Die drei sind der Wahnsinn, der Wahnsinn, der Wahnsinn.
Can anyone help me? What is the guy in the middle playing at 4:30
@SlayerO013 that's my grandfather, he died 2,5 year ago.
I like em all, but Huub....wow!
2:48 to 3:22 the best bit, huub just goes mental

Huub Janssen!!!
Simply the best
excelent!!!!!!

For a higher quality version, search THE CLASSIC DRUM BATTLE: Charly Antolini - Pete York - Huub Janssen
Don't be ashamed, most drummers are children in comparison to these guys!
Pete York ist einer der größten..
jazzt to good to be true..........
sorry if I'm asking this.. but what's independence.. i mean in drumming.. :)
hammer!
the statement that he is left handed should have ended this arguement
1. Huub.
2. Charlie.
3. Pete
This Guy Kick Ass jejejeje

Wow i wish i could do like them using a tradional grip and use it fast :D
Ohhh~ ok.. I'm still a beginner in drumming.. ok? Yeaa I'm dumb about drumming.. still learning.. :D
Huub absolutely tore ass!
if only i could give you like a million thumbs up for the comment XD
5:52 XD
Huub Janssen marcador!
I just dropped my jaw
Huub ftw
Huub,huub,huub!!!
theyre just lightening fast single strokes bro maybe a few doubles in there.the key is accents
all three of these guys are great
but pete york surprised me, i mean, he's an excelent drummer but he didn't show much potential here for some reason
idk carma i guess lol XP

LMAO @ 4:04 Audience member has no idea where the beat is. What is he clapping to? lol!
You can not call yourself a drummer if you wear a suit while drumming...
Funny thing is, there's actual rhythm in there xd! It's no just some blattering on those drums!

learn from the master, buddy rich.
ich habs nur unter zwei vudeos geschrieben
sorry
Hubb is normally faster than that, watch "stick tricks" to see what I mean.
Pete is getting worse with age. I've seen him live with cozy powl and was better than Hubb could ever be.
Forget Cozy ....more is not possible ....Huub Janssen .......he is a Monster
I wish i could, but I'm not that worthy to learn from the master.. need to practice more independent drumming..
Janssen got nothing on York or Antolini
Pff... noone knows Janssen, but Antolini was Europe´s leading drummer for at least two decades!!
