This is REALLY cool! It's easy to forget that Gene Simmons is a musician... he's just a guy who plays music with a band. To see some of his unscripted moves and gestures with the guys in this clip shows him having fun!

You're very welcome! It was a lot of fun to have Gene come out as a surprise guest. It's a relatively small venue, and it's always great to see legends like this in intimate settings.

Unscripted? Have you seen a KISS show? He's been making the same "unscripted" arm gestures during Deuce for decades. He does the same thing with his solo band now. Also, Gene has readily told other bassists that he thinks he's a shitty player. He's certainly not technical. He does simple things well. I think he'd say he's an entertainer first and a musician second. He's still a rock legend regardless.

Shane needs to cut out the constant fills between songs. Good young drummer, but that is amateur behaviour. And yes, Gene was telling Shane to bring it down-and rightfully so-he was rushing like crazy. Not meaning to be critical of him at all, just some professional advice.
ADDED A DAY LATER-I’ve never once said Shane isn’t a good drummer-or potentially a GREAT drummer. He IS. He just needs to learn a few of the musical and behavioural building blocks of being a working pro player, that’s all. I for one hope he goes far and has a great career-he’s a powerhouse of energy-just like his dad was.

As a KISS fan since 1975 I will say its a good performance and how I wish KISS were these past 10 years (stripped down without all the flash...let the music speak). But come on Gene...people were ecstatic to see you...at least engage with them a little bit before and after the song even if it did not cost them thousands $$$ to stand near stage or that they did not pay for a "meet and greet" with you.

think Gene should have done stuff like this a long time ago. Very nice to sit in with the younger guys. Would have been nice if you could HEAR THE VOCALS. Les Paul guy should try a Strat. Firebird guy has it right, good tone and blend. Johnny Winter loved the Firebird. Again, very nice to see Gene without that makeup and costume. Personally I like his bass style on this. I mean Gene on a P bass?? wow

I see a lot of comments about Shane’s playing.
    His time is everywhere.
And that’s why Shane didn’t take over for his dad in the Foo Fighters and Josh Freese did. He simply plays like a 17 year old kid. Mostly because he’s a 17 year old kid. lol. He’ll figure it out,
but somebody needs to tell him the truth and be brutally honest and make him practice to a metronome.

Give him a break, he's just a teenager and will have time to learn. I seriously doubt he's even listened to Alive I. While most kids his age are still growing pubes, he's playing with a rock icon and other professional musicians.

It sounds and appears to me that he's in this band because of who his dad was, not because he's the new chopmaster general. My ears tell me Taylor should have gotten him a metronome for his 8th birthday. But hey - it's only rock and roll not saving the world so what the hell it doesn't sound that great it's still fun.
