@@pokedad.fishes no worries brother, supporting locals is what im down for. Have you been to Irvine lake recently?? I havent been since before they closed up.
That was a great video. You were informative and gave great tips. I go fishing probably once every three years, but I will be fishing at SARL this week. Wish me luck.
Hopefully they appreciate all the work you did. You covered pretty much everything. I live right by SARL, been going a few times each season for about 8 years.
Great video I drive out there from the Bay Area some days have been tough but have also had my fair share of limits would like more info on that catfish lake still searching for the 20 plus pounder
Thank you brother! Heck yeah. I actually wanna head up to the bay and do some fishing up there too. For sure brother, I'm gonna be working on a video with some people who know more about the catfish lake. 🤙🏽
Thanks for sharing all of this. I plan on taking my 8-year-old to Huck's Pond soon. I went to Troutdale in the hills near Agoura as a kid, but it is closed after the fires. 😢
So sorry for the late reply! Hope you were able to get out there and get your 8 year old on some fish. Yeah the fires really messed up a lot of my favorite things to do out there.
Awesome video brotha! Yeah it is definitely a circus there. Especially Fridays and Saturdays. Kinda why I stopped going there on them days. Monday..Tuesday are my days there. No bs to deal with and open fishing spots! Let me know when you go there on the wek days🤙🤙
DC! Thank you brother! Appreciate the kind words. I hear yah. Weekdays are my favorites for sure. I'll let you know the next time ... "I'm not feeling well and might miss work." 😜Haha
@@pokedad.fishesI fished the catfish/bass lake from 6am until 4am this past Tuesday and got zero bites. Wish there was more access around the banks. The overgrowth is a mess 😢
Great video!! You pretty much answered all the questions that I had about this location. The only question I have left is, how are the campgrounds and how is it fishing at night?
I actually haven’t fished over night myself, but it’s definitely someone I want to do this season. You basically fish right next to the spot you choose to fish. 🤙🏼
Sorry for the late response! My favorite spot for catfish season has been by the bubble hole. I'd recommend that spot, if you can get it. If not toad road or close to Casa Corner. Good luck out there brother! 🤙🏼🤙🏼🤙🏼
Bruddah... By far the best video of SARL... Like you I go for memories since I was a couple years old my Dad would take me... My only question is have you ever done camping overnight and you think the Trout would bite at those times? Keep up the great videos!
Brother!!! Thank you for the kind words. I appreciate you and the support. You know that is something on my “to do” list. A little overnight session. I feel like there’s a good chance for a good bite. Just gotta get some scent and some glow. 🤙🏼🤙🏼
Awesome video brother I’m one of those who come to this lake cuz it’s a hard lake to fish but I love it , most I’ve caught this season has been 4 trout , ima try my luck tmrw and see how we do 👊🏾😎
Francisco brother! Heck yeah ... get that limit!!! Appreciate the kind words. I also keep coming back because of the challenge. If it was easy, it wouldn't be fun. 🤙🏽
Try short. 3-6 inches. With the rain and the murky water, they might be hunkered down at the bottom. When I fished on Friday, the short leader was key.
I’ve been fishing there for years and ever since they started the overnight camping on Friday, it has been tuff for the weekend fishermen. Price has skyrocketed and trout season is just ridiculous now..🤦♂️
I always like to have powerbait and micetails when I’m fishing for trout. I’m in the middle of working on a Trout 101 Guide. Should be up later this week.
3 things work at santa ana river lakes, garlic, mice tails and chartruse powerbit the rest you do need , heel even the fish that are feed hatchery brown pellets , they dont want to pellets when they can get something better? nice tour? but ou forgot to mention the increase in prices coming i heard 5.00 across the board.
What's a good spot for someone from out of town coming to camp and fish? Been there twice a got skunked both times 😢. Seems like not worth the 4hr drive.
That is quite the drive indeed brother. Toad Road or the Pump House would be great choices, if you're gonna fish the Big Lake. If you're gonna fish Chris' Pond I would fish Connie's Corner. I'll try to have up to date videos posted to give you an insight on how the water level and clarity is. Good luck when you come out. 🤙🏼
@@pokedad.fishes looking at April- May. Taking family and friend for their first time camping and fishing. Would like them to hook a few fish and feel the excitement of reeling one in!
Warning: if you are an experienced but short-tempered fisherman, these ponds may not be the "lakes" for you. If you hate people crossing your set lines, tangling your lines or have constant bottom snagging or have newbies fishing next to you, nope, these are definitively not the ponds for you. If people arriving really late to the lake and want squeeze next to you, who had been waiting since 2:00 AM to get a good spot; Nope, these ponds are not for you. IF you do not have deep pockets to fish here, nope these are not the ponds for you. Finally, if you have never taken any anger management classes, please do not fish at these ponds. Don't say that I didn't warn you. lol
So, are you saying most so called fishermens that go there are a bunch of noobs?😂 Of course! But I understand what your saying. I still go on party boats with tons of noobs, but I share my knowledge, I encourage them, but I hate saying this, "At the end of day" I will SLAY!"
Absolutely. No need to go up to the main gate. When the pond is open, there is a separate entrance located where the car line forms. Basically before you turn right towards the main pay gate.
Bro last year I was fishing at the big lake and some dude in less than an hour pulled like 20 catfish and took off they are not watching that shit I can tell you that. I got skunked that day
That sucks you got the skunk. Been skunked too many times haha. I feel yah, I know they can’t catch them all, but I know they do keep an eye out a good amount of times. 🤙🏼🤙🏼
Make sure you get ready to spend $100 everything is expensive there makes no sense that it cost $36 just to go fishing and most of the time you don't even catch fish there
Absolutely correct. Things are not cheap now a days. I'd imagine the owners of the lake must have to pay a good amount of coin for the fish that they stock to provide this "fishing" experience. Plus they've got to pay the staff that works there. Things aren't cheap on both ends. Appreciate you brother. 🤙🏼
@pokedad.fishes yeah that's understandable but they make plenty of money at that Lake paying their staff and producing those fish should be easy as many times as they have ripped me off. It's a good lake but it would be much better if the prices were cheaper
SARL sucks. Its a featureless structureless pit. Since there i almost no structure there is only like 3 places the fish gravitate to and those spots are almost always taken by people who paid to camp overnight, ao unless you are lucky to be near the front of the line and win the mad dash once the gates open your chances of catching anything are very low. To male all that worse they pack the place woth as many people as possible so no mater what you end up fishing shoulder to shoulder and if you attempt to move from a dead spot to another hopeful better spot they is a great chance you wont even find any open shoreline to tey to set up and your old spot will instantly be absorbed by the people who were fishing shoulder to shoulder with you. The next problem is that lake gets a lot of shady people and lots of people with very bad fishing etiquette going to it. I know its not the lakes fault but its a reality of fishing SARL. Also having the 91 frereway and a mattress company as your backdrop with almoat no shade trees makes for a pretty depressing view.
Great video. I assume if i'm float tubing it wont matter what time arrive since ill be out in the water and can get into the good spots? I've never tubed at SARL and always wanted to.
Thanks Dan. That's the beauty of the float tube. Don't need to worry about getting to a spot super early. Just find a nice and safe place to launch. Then just pick your favorite spot from there. Definitely give it a shot. I really like float tubing SARL. Good luck out there brother. 🤙🏼
