Hello y’all! Cheesy moon Workshop found the answer. …Here is what a Representative from Cobra Tech said. “Our parts are manufactured to our design and strict specifications in China. We import all parts to Meridian Texas and have a team of technicians that fit and assemble each knife. We send our metals to an independent third party lab for continual testing to ensure it meets our quality control specifications.”
I honestly don't even think that they're assembled here. This is nothing new. The "assembled in the US" claim has been used by many shady knife companies over the years. They get busted... a lot... As anyone who has ever sent a Cobratec in for a warranty claim can tell you - they don't repair the knife, they send you a brand new one. There's a reason for that. If they were assembling them here, someone would have received a replacement knife. It's not hard to change a spring on an OTF - which is usually what goes south on them. Just think about it - why would they send every single person with a warranty claim a brand new knife if they actually had a shop on premises... ?
A wise man once told me that I could use Rem oil on my sharpening stone and it works great. You told me that on a live video over a year ago. Thank you Kevin.
Man, I dig that sharpening system! Screaming sharp.💯 I know a lot of folks have already answered this question….I own two Cobra tec knives. My local gun shop sells them. They are assembled in the US but made from imported parts. Great knives though! Blessings.🙏
Another great video Doc, glad to see you break out that sweet KME system you were given. I've had my eye out for something like that and watching this helped make up my mind, so thank you for that. I also wanted to mention how much I liked your toque, I've been wearing my hat like that for years. Yours looks awesome with that Knife Doctor patch on it, has me wanting one for myself.
My guy the knife Dr you have got me into collecting more and now I’m hunting knifes my self to add to my collection I love your channel you inspire me to be like you would love to get in contact
I'm right there with you Doc, i MUST see USA on the knife or Knife Blades. I bought a knife and it had USA on one of the Blades and i bought it, only to find china on the back side of the blade.
Until Cobratec uploads a video of their workshop showing people assembling the knives, it's safe to assume that they are shipped fully assembled from China.
Kevin I also have a sharpening system like that, I only use it for a perfect 17deg angle on a special knife. I also use diamond plates with it. Remember to keep a bandage handy 😉 God bless America 🇺🇸 🙏
Thank you. Here’s what I found with some help. allamerican.org/investigation/cobratec/#:~:text=Verdict%3A%20Are%20CobraTec%20Knives%20Made,are%20primarily%20made%20in%20China
The KME system is a great sharpener Kevin. I was shopping for a system a year ago and ended up going with a Worksharp Elite System. My decision came down to Worksharp because they are a multi-generation Oregon company and that is my home state. I never had much luck with whetstones so the system was the way to go for me.
I always use water on all my stones. The reason is if you use oil you have to keep using oil. If you use water you can always change to oil in the future
You can flush the stones should you want to change. On sic stones such as the boride SIC stones made for grit o matic i suggest water only or a very very light lapping oil such as the fluid Boride abrasive makes for the called borilube or Trend Abrasives lapping fluid. Personally I find water as the best, I sharpen on the Grit O matic SIC bench stones all the time, absolutely fantastic stones for simple carbon and simple stainless steels and leave beautiful edge quality. I really enjoy them for that beautiful edge quality and very consistent scratch pattern, they have extremely consistent Abrasive particle size so they leave a very consistent scratch pattern if you are doing your part. On old carbons I wouldn't ever use diamond plates when I have quality SIC stones as the edge quality is better off the SIC stones with more consistent scratch patterns. Most of my sharpening is done on resin bonded diamond or cbn bench stones because I mostly sharpen modern high performance steel compositions but when I'm sharpening old carbons or simple stainless compositions you can bet your butt that I'm using high quality SIC or high quality Aluminum oxide bench stones on them. The Boride Golden Star aluminum oxide stones are probably my single favorite abrasive for old 10xx class carbons the edge quality the Boride Golden Star stones leaves on those old 10xx type carbons is second to none. They aren't super fast cutting stones but on low wear resistance basic carbons they don't need to be and they are capable of crazy levels of sharpness on those steels. If you want a more aggressive edge profile then I suggest the Boride AM-K stones, they leave a high level of keenness while leaving an incredible amount of bite. That 600 grit AM-K is one hell of a great aluminum oxide stone.
😂 Kevin I have a sharpening kit like that but mine is a Lansky Diamond sharpening kit. I have been using it for 30 years, Lansky is hard to beat. I sharpen mine knives a lot different than you did in this video. I sharpen the blades full length and then turn it over.

I myself don't buy in to the knife sharpeners out there I even have a set of expensive Japanese wet stones I don't even use anymore they just collect dust now lol. Well working on and making knives I learned to use my 2x40 inch grinder and now can sharpen a knife in a couple minutes, you can do it to Kev by watching the bur form on the blade as you run it the right angle of degree on your one inch stone. just practice it you will see the bur form as you go across the edge on the grinder. start 400 grit and go to 800.
If you didn't have this sharpener could/would you use your 1 by 30 sander to shape/sharpen the blade? Also it looked like your hand or fingers got pretty close to the blade on the KME. Enjoyed the video just trying to learn different ways to do things. Thanks😇
