I felt the influence points, been playing since before seasons was really a thing, but had 2 accounts so my skins is lost after my initial account I lost the password to (damn my youngness at the time) but this is the reason why I have all champs, after the convert away from runes you were paid out basically for all the runes you had, I had so many I literally bought all champs with now blue essence, and still have 100k+
you also used to get influence points after each game, you used to get more for winning a game and depending on how it lasted (you'd get like 130 ip i think for a win for like 25-30 minutes) and 70-80 for a lose
I like how Riot has billions of dollars and are one of the richest companies in the world now, but can't give us holiday maps, but before they were rich we had Halloween and Christmas maps.
@@cattysplat I think it's more just capitalism at work. When they were a small indie company they were people making a game they thought was fun and putting things they thought would be fun into it. Now they're super big every decision has to consider money spent and money earned from it, which means a lot of the for fun things just get lost.
Lmao, and here was me with no crit runes or rune pages for other roles but instead just 19 different rune pages for Katarina so I could take the best one I could think to make for each matchup. I miss having a champion I adored playing...
And don’t forget, that IP (influence points) the old currency, was WAY more worth than BE today. You didn’t have hextech nor skin shards or anything. The only way to get IP was by playing games. I think it was like 90-130 per win and 40-70 per lose.. but idk it was scaling with the game length. But in order to buy a new champion, which would cost 6300, it took like 50 games. And you had to buy runes… it was a nightmare I remember that.
I had all champions, 9 runes pages and almost all relevant expensive runes (including MS/LS quints, hybrid pen marks and quints etc.) The runes setup genuinely felt op, but it was so fun to run unconventional runes (full MS setup)
Huh? It's way easier to get BE today than it was to get IP. And no more runes to buy, so more currency directly for champions. You had to grind a week to get a champion, now you grind a day and you can afford at least 2.

In S3 Riot had an incrdible run with good Champions. I remember being hyped for every single release and they always delivered. 8/9 Chamions are really good designed and didnt need big changes. Regarding Aatrox: He was the weakest design as he was just another take on the "big guy slapps you with sword until you die" but he had an interesting twist with the W stance change. I think it is a shame that they removed him from the game. They did rework hi in a few minor ways keeping his base kit completely unchanged like 6 Month before his big "Rework" and after that he was in an amazing shape. Basically the Community that was hyped for the rework suddenly didnt want it anymore as the mini rework fixed most of his problems. Than the rework hit and basically deleted old Aatrox and replaced him with what most called "a worse riven clone". He got a few bigger changes afterwards until he got to the point where he is now. Nowadays he is a pretty good designed Champion with a unique identity but I still wish they didnt just delete his old version especially after basically fixing it
Oh yeah, it was funny cause Aatrox was never played *really* in competitive. First time he becomes viable as a solo q and competitive pick. They reworked him 😭😭

My man. Runes costed Influence Points. 😎 I will give one trivia as OG Vi main. There used to be a mastery called "Improved Recall" which reduced recall cast time by a second. However for some reason charging abilities (like Vi's Q and Varus's Q) had a side effect if you took it. Normally recalling durring the charge up would put the spell on whole duration of cooldown. But with this mastery charging up and pressing recall would cancel the ability without putting it on cooldown, which meant that you could bait people escapes and flashes and then reset the cooldown and do it again until you got sure you hit it.
Since you hearted the comment I will give one more trivia. Sometimes after Sion's or Poppy's rework, Riot changed behavior of the charging abilities. The amount of checks durring charge up was causing my then shitty internet to raise ping from 38ms to more than 200ms. So I got in touch with a former pro player who started to work for Riot and send him Wireshark trace and video of it and the issue was fixed in less than a week. :D
1% crit was nasty back in the day. I grinded the rune pages like a mf, i had 20 of them for different roles, champs etc. Even 20% crit rune page to pickup when i felt funny. What a time to be alive man.
They could release "league 100" with the 1st 100 champs (up to Jayce). This was about mid season 2. It still has the classic feel without the brokenness of the super early times
I really enjoyed the old league of legends because it was very GAMEY compared to the streamlined things we have now. Also I miss the old school animations and color palette which made everything felt hand drawn and personnel.
I hate when companys shut down awesome projects, but don't offer the same experience themself. Do a Oldschool league server or let the Fans do it for fuck sake.

I'm liking the series! A request tho: When you get to the Katarina rework (season 6) pls make sure to include her earlier rework from season 2 as ppl do forget that and you didn't include it before. Her W used to be a self buff that gave her next Q grievous wounds or her E Dodge, but Dodge was a removed stat after season 1 so they changed her into her best form where: Her W was a circle melee range ability that gave her movement speed when it hit an enemy champion and her E gave her temporary damage reduction. I used to absolutely LOVE playing that season 2-6 Katarina, it's why I fell in love with the game in the first place, would be nice to see it mentioned. Laning against Cho'gaths and Gragass and Fioras and winning by E'ing to them when they didn't expect it then using the speed from the W on them to sidestep their attempted punishes was probably the most laning phase fun I've ever had in the game. I've always been salty that they reworked LeBlanc around the same time as Kat s6 but then changed LB back but never changed Kata back :(

2:37 We almost got old map private servers with project chronobreak. They reverse engineered tons of broken stuff, broke through all problems riot would probably be unable to fix themselves. Then they got threatened with C&D letter, and now it's dead. Blizzard did the same thing with Wow classic private servers and then made official classic for people to lay soon after. But it's been like 6 years now. it's not happening. Riot is too souless
I had a friend I asked to 1v1 me with like every champion I thought I might go against that they could play so I could come up with rune page ideas on how to lane against them as my (pre-season 6) Katarina lol. I do love being able to 'build' characters in games for different situations, it's what's made me replay Baldur's Gate 3 so much lately lmao!
I, very well, remember when Jinx and Lucian came out. Adc main back then, and today as well. I still play Jinx, and got *JINX* tattooed on my back. Lucian, not so much, but I remember reading lore back then, and Senna was mentioned, so everyone was like ‘It’d be so cool to have her in the game as well’, so I play her now almost as much as Jinx.

I think if runes were free and you could change runes in champ select, the second mastery iteration (18-12), Fervor, Thunderlord's, CoC, etc. That system is much more interesting than what Runes Reforged has given us.
Dude it was so good, Quinn use to be so strong because of valor she was my favorite champion. I wish they gave her that ability back for her ult because it was the best.
Beauty of the old rune system is the sense of progression, it gave lol the air of an rpg, you felt your champions grow stronger overtime which was cool, a novelty of old school gaming
I play in this game from season 2. I watched this changes in time and it's always very impressive for me how League of Legends grow. Many years.. I will always have mana potion in my heart and AD teemo. :
When I was new to the game (joined after the Poppy rework) I thought I downloaded an older version because the new map looks washed out and stale whereas the old map had more color and it felt more cozy and decorated.
I don't miss the old rune that takes forever to build... However you have the freedom to create your own stats you could try hybrid sets it's alot better IMO and placing down rune felt nice in a odd way haha after grinding many matches you finally own it

I still have my box set from 2009. Most don't remember the old dodge runes that Jax and nidalee used to have making them untargetable. Old shaco and heifer turret/boxes you could stack at the nexus stopping minions from going down lanes. Then when you let them Go you would have a trillion minions running down lane at 4 5 minutes. Shit was scary
I remember Akalis old kit and needing to have a specific rune page in order to proc her ad and ap buff... ahhh good times. Also I remember the big thresh change were his souls bonus attack was tied to his Q so it was a no brainer to max Q, then they shifted it to his E.
I want the old runes and masteries system to come back. We could custom and cook what we wanted. It was so cool. Of course, all the runes would be free and available to all players. But I know they will never do it.
Just btw, there were also different tier runes, so as you lvl up you were able to then get higher level runes. WHich basically meant you wasted IP if you bought the tier 1 runes. But hitting lvl 30 took like 200+ games without exp boosts

man season 3 is my first exposure to league cause i came from dota 1 and my friend recommended the game i love and hate and im still playing it for 11 yrs and yes aatrox is my fave champ too
Back in the day the only way to get Medieval twitch and Grey Warwick was to refer and invite (i think 100 ) people to league, and they had to get to a certain level. I had them unlocked by doing that. Unfortunately you can now get it by getting a good honor level. I wish that they had made it like championship riven with 2 different versions, one for the OG, and one for the new version.
Bc of the old runes i still to this day dont have every champion and i started in s2 lol. I just invested so much into this runepages etc and than they took all i worked for and gave me max 1/4 of the worth back lol still to this day hate that change and how bad they handeled it.
The new map looks shit at the normal contrast and gamma settings. Tip is to increase these until the colors pop more, then it looks almost like the OG map!
I remember my best friend and duo partner was draven main and i was thresh main. An dthe runes he used to use gave him 100ad lvl 1 which was fucking insane
Insane that I really played on the Halloween Map. That's something only a few people can say. And I miss the OG Winter Map with the Tons of Snow. Yeah it hurts the eyes but it was awesome.
I saod tbe same shit about aatrox. He was super bad ass aesthetically, but the only thing that the game deserves to have today is a new champion with his old W. That was a legitimately bad ass mechanic, whereas the rest of his kit was a little too straightforward, and the new one is a much more interesting fighter. They should really give Lucian his slow break back. I forgot about that. He can still auto double dash auto doubledash with flickerblades and about 75 haste, last i checked anyways before the navori rework although it should still be the same, but in the modern meta building that much haste makes you too squishy and honestly guys Lucian has been laughably bad for wwaaayyy too long. Anudda beautiful video good shit muh guy. Oh yeah and bring back the tribunal, modern robot-moderated report system is dog
Tribunal nowadays would actually just be peak content. Edit: The old Rune system was when I loved playing Support Shyvana with Ascension Tali. Gold for days, speed boost, and roaming all game at 6.
Oh the good ol' rune pages...I had 9 of them. 9 ! Full unique rune pages. 7 for general use like lethality,magic pen, support enchanter,tank.... and 2 specificly tailored for my favourite champs at the time. Wukong and Janna. The day Riot removed rune pages I was devastated for obvious reasons. Especially because I bought said rune pages with real money (the runes I grind for for months). And the compensation I got wasn't even close to what I invested into having them.
They NEED to bring back the Tribunal %100 the automated system is so easy to dupe and also players who aren't even being toxic can get banned where as people who know what words to avoid (myself) are still just as toxic if not more, automated systems can't detect when someone is intentionally soft inting yet anyone watching the game its very obvious.
Started playing league around august or september of 2013. Graves was the first every champion i used. Still remember how i hit gold while playing zac jungle. I managed to steal baron while flying in the air using e.
Wish you went over league of assassins. There was a period when they released Rengar, Khazix, and Diana as well as reworking Akali and buffing Katarina i think. This was also around the time they released Cleaver and Tiamat which stacked. Basically, you just weren't allowed to play ADC for a while. But got damn, Fiora ult with 5 Tiamat's was funny. Oh, and old Saraka. She used to counter AD mid lanes because her heal also gave armor and her q was spammable like Eve's q. Basically a Master Yi or whatever would jump on you, you heal, take no damage, and drop stars on their head till they die. Old league was great.
UUUuuuuhmmmm, the old Aatrox ult also did AOE dmg and had amazing AP scaling. I am not 100% sure which one but either E or Q also had amazing AP scaling so AP Aatrox was on Sion/Yi lvls back then... shit was amaazing

I, very well, remember when Jinx and Lucian came out. Adc main back then, and today as well. I still play Jinx, and got *JINX* tattooed on my back. Lucian, not so much, but I remember reading lore back then, and Senna was mentioned, so everyone was like ‘It’d be so cool to have her in the game as well’, so I play her now almost as much as Jinx.

I think if runes were free and you could change runes in champ select, the second mastery iteration (18-12), Fervor, Thunderlord's, CoC, etc. That system is much more interesting than what Runes Reforged has given us.
I like the power of keystones but I do wish we were able to have more control on what stats we can bring in games.

Beauty of the old rune system is the sense of progression, it gave lol the air of an rpg, you felt your champions grow stronger overtime which was cool, a novelty of old school gaming

When I was new to the game (joined after the Poppy rework) I thought I downloaded an older version because the new map looks washed out and stale whereas the old map had more color and it felt more cozy and decorated.

I don't miss the old rune that takes forever to build... However you have the freedom to create your own stats you could try hybrid sets it's alot better IMO and placing down rune felt nice in a odd way haha after grinding many matches you finally own it

I still have my box set from 2009. Most don't remember the old dodge runes that Jax and nidalee used to have making them untargetable. Old shaco and heifer turret/boxes you could stack at the nexus stopping minions from going down lanes. Then when you let them Go you would have a trillion minions running down lane at 4 5 minutes. Shit was scary
I remember Akalis old kit and needing to have a specific rune page in order to proc her ad and ap buff... ahhh good times. Also I remember the big thresh change were his souls bonus attack was tied to his Q so it was a no brainer to max Q, then they shifted it to his E.
I remember my first game of league so vividly, 2010 halloween map, played as garen and lux was just released, good old times.
I want the old runes and masteries system to come back. We could custom and cook what we wanted. It was so cool. Of course, all the runes would be free and available to all players. But I know they will never do it.
Just btw, there were also different tier runes, so as you lvl up you were able to then get higher level runes. WHich basically meant you wasted IP if you bought the tier 1 runes. But hitting lvl 30 took like 200+ games without exp boosts

Back in the day the only way to get Medieval twitch and Grey Warwick was to refer and invite (i think 100 ) people to league, and they had to get to a certain level. I had them unlocked by doing that. Unfortunately you can now get it by getting a good honor level. I wish that they had made it like championship riven with 2 different versions, one for the OG, and one for the new version.
Bc of the old runes i still to this day dont have every champion and i started in s2 lol. I just invested so much into this runepages etc and than they took all i worked for and gave me max 1/4 of the worth back lol still to this day hate that change and how bad they handeled it.
The new map looks shit at the normal contrast and gamma settings. Tip is to increase these until the colors pop more, then it looks almost like the OG map!
I remember my best friend and duo partner was draven main and i was thresh main. An dthe runes he used to use gave him 100ad lvl 1 which was fucking insane

I saod tbe same shit about aatrox. He was super bad ass aesthetically, but the only thing that the game deserves to have today is a new champion with his old W. That was a legitimately bad ass mechanic, whereas the rest of his kit was a little too straightforward, and the new one is a much more interesting fighter.
They should really give Lucian his slow break back. I forgot about that. He can still auto double dash auto doubledash with flickerblades and about 75 haste, last i checked anyways before the navori rework although it should still be the same, but in the modern meta building that much haste makes you too squishy and honestly guys Lucian has been laughably bad for wwaaayyy too long.

Oh the good ol' rune pages...I had 9 of them. 9 ! Full unique rune pages. 7 for general use like lethality,magic pen, support enchanter,tank.... and 2 specificly tailored for my favourite champs at the time. Wukong and Janna.
The day Riot removed rune pages I was devastated for obvious reasons. Especially because I bought said rune pages with real money (the runes I grind for for months). And the compensation I got wasn't even close to what I invested into having them.

They NEED to bring back the Tribunal %100 the automated system is so easy to dupe and also players who aren't even being toxic can get banned where as people who know what words to avoid (myself) are still just as toxic if not more, automated systems can't detect when someone is intentionally soft inting yet anyone watching the game its very obvious.

Wish you went over league of assassins. There was a period when they released Rengar, Khazix, and Diana as well as reworking Akali and buffing Katarina i think. This was also around the time they released Cleaver and Tiamat which stacked. Basically, you just weren't allowed to play ADC for a while. But got damn, Fiora ult with 5 Tiamat's was funny.
Oh, and old Saraka. She used to counter AD mid lanes because her heal also gave armor and her q was spammable like Eve's q. Basically a Master Yi or whatever would jump on you, you heal, take no damage, and drop stars on their head till they die.

UUUuuuuhmmmm, the old Aatrox ult also did AOE dmg and had amazing AP scaling. I am not 100% sure which one but either E or Q also had amazing AP scaling so AP Aatrox was on Sion/Yi lvls back then... shit was amaazing
His e had the cracked ap scaling xd you would just q ult e and 1 hit everyone shit was goofy
I played so much that I managed to get all champs, 20 rune pages and all runes then they changed it and we only got back like half of IP
