1st video ive watched of yours. New sub. Firewood efficiency is key to profitability . I sell bundles and bulk fireplace firewood delivered campfirewood to campers all summer. I only bag my smoking wood chunks. Sell tons of slabwood and boilerwood also. Every piece of firewood u split u can sell if u know your buyers needs
I started using my new Super Split HD. I can split just under 1 1/4 cords on a tank. That’s splitting them about the same size as yours and even smaller. I love doing it,…but it takes forever to get a cord of those size splits 😄.
Man that's some good looking firewood! Thanks so much for sharing some videos on your 17RS. That little machine gives a guy a serious workout, I was winded doing a face cord video! I have never done a fuel consumption test, this is really good info too, way to #GetSplitDone
Thanks, the only problem with a lot of this dead standing red oak I'm dealing with is the centers are a typically hollow, At least for some sections, and you have to deal with some soft woo. But it's free wood and I enjoy cutting and splitting it. Well, I enjoy splitting it now.
Interesting video.. I've always wondered, but never took the time to measure it out. I've got a 27 ton splitter, but there are significant differences. Your's, it would seem from the video, let's you send the ram into the wood, without your hand on the valve handle. That gives you time to deal with the split wood between cycles.. Mine won't move the ram without your hand pulling the valve handle. A bit slower, but that also means more fuel used as the unit cycles. The dual handle operation indicates a state of hydraulics, that is over my pay grade. Mine only has one handle. Also, I noticed that the Red Oak "pops" easily into the splitting cycle. That means that you don't have to run the ram through a whole cycle to split the wood. I, on the otherhand, split Ash, Birch, Northern Maple, ( up here in Canada :-) , and Cedar.. They require ( usually ), that you complete the splitting cycle, as they just don't "pop" like your Red Oak. Also, my splitter won't let the ram contact the end plate. .. Surprisingly, ( sarcasm), the point where the ram stops short of the end plate is almost exactly the width of your hand. To get the ram to bust clean through on a tough piece, ya gotta put a sacrificial 5 inch piece in front of the end block when you're splitting stringy crap.. But, at the end of the day, ... great video, and it makes me believe that my fuel usage to split a ( face) cord of wood is reasonable. Once again, thanks for a great video, and your attention to detail.
Nice!! I'm south of you in IA I always liked the way Wolfe Ridge configured their wedges..easy on easy off. Do they make a box wedge for that? Good Job!!
1000 lbs? No way man, 5 or 600 maybe, i mean, the camera adds 10 lbs, but still 😂😂😂 Great video, good work. Fast cycle time for sure Make sure tou rinse out that juice pitcher before you take it back in the kitchen😂😂😂😂 Yall got some good gas prices, out here non ethanol gas is 5.39 to 6.50 ish, per gallon.
I have ruggedmade 737 and use a gallon and a half or so, per cord, but with 3 guys wella 64 yr old a 45 yr old and a 15 yr old running it we can do a cord an hr easy, as long as no ones stopping to get water or pepsi, 😂
Hi Mike, New subscriber here. I just picked up the WR 17VS-C today Friday February 8. I will try to get some videos out soon. Do you have stickers for your channel. I would love to get your channel up on our saws. We called it The blades of Glory. You did a great test on fuel efficiency. I really hope the 17vs-c don’t drink gas. With a 22hp Honda running at 3600 rpm, well we will see. Take care Al from Club Dora outdoors and firewood. I want to send you a channel sticker too.
What was your thought process for selecting the auto cycle over the log lift? I am just curious. I will be getting a new splitter this year but undecided on manufacturer currently. Thanks for the video. Great job. Good luck with the channel. It looks like you will do very well.
Well, I wanted them both but a 28 pro was not in my budget. Wood is a side hustle and I'm slowly building it up a smidgen larger. I don't get a ton of really large rounds. When I do it's always roadside logging or from a buddies yard, and always red oak. I can easily break them down into halves or quarters with a maul or axe. I went with the auto cycle fir speed and efficiency. I spoke to Wolfgang and Ben at Wolfe Ridge MFG quite a bit about them and so far I'm happy with my choice. If I had lots of large, nasty wood I would have likely went with the log lift.
Thanks! No stroke limiter. If I'm ready with another piece I can simply stop it and reverse it at any point. The reality is as a sole operator I can only feed so much wood into it.
Your 50????? I never would have guessed. I was thinking you'd be at least 57........ Now that I'm done joking, that was interesting about the department of weight and measures watches firewood bags as well

Thanks, it was very educational. I always wondered how much gas it took.
Thank you.

Good idea and good video. Thanks. I usually go through about 5 gallons for 2 full cords with my Wolferidge 35 SHO and conveyor. 👍🔥🪵
It's definitely going to take some fuel to run those large machines.
Hi Mike! New sub! WR RS…nice! Laws vary per state. I kinda wish it didn’t.
Thanks!
17RS is a Good Splitter if your doing Production, you have a Nice Cookie Bin for the wood to dry,
Thanks so far. I'm very happy with both.
New subscriber from Western North Carolina
Thanks, hope all is well there?
That splitter is wicked fast. You need another fella. I’m throw back that machine splits oak with almost no effort. Are those rounds seasoned?
Very cool ❤❤❤❤❤
Nice!! I'm south of you in IA I always liked the way Wolfe Ridge configured their wedges..easy on easy off. Do they make a box wedge for that? Good Job!!
They don't offer a box wedge for this one. It likely wouldn't have enough power

Lol
I'm certain they said it was 1,000 lbs
Well they have the machine balanced well thats for sure

Nice video!
Dies your splitter have a stroke limiter to shave a bit of time off each stroke?
Just subbed to you and looking forward to more videos!
Thanks!

Nice set up 👍, 🚜🪵🔥🏰🚀
Thank you, it's a work in progress
A lot more for me because my box store splitter is SLOW!!😂😂
My splitter before the Wolfe Ridge was a Fiskars x27! That was really slow
@@The_Woodpile the best axe out there!👍
Making toothpicks must be for bundles.
I do bag wood
Your 50?????
I never would have guessed. I was thinking you'd be at least 57........

Some mornings, I feel 57, if that counts. This is Minnesota. There are laws, rules, regulations, and especially taxes covering EVERYTHING.
Same thing applies here in PA.
But there's always those firewood police...😅
