  • The PO-35 and PO-137 are basically identical when it comes to features and functionality. The biggest difference are the factory sound set and of course looks.
    Released during NAMM 2018, the PO-35 speak pocket operator is a voice synthesizer and this video contains everything you need to know about it. You'll be able to learn about the new scale and transpose mode. Find out how to use the recording modes, learn how to access and use all of the new functions and hidden features. I've even included the backstory of the PO35 speak and loads more.
    Get grips on how to swap out drum sounds with microtonic by Sonic Charge and PO-32 Tonic transfer files. Im also explaining how to back up and share your PO-35 data, which is different from how it's done with PO-32 Tonic. The PO-35 speak contains more functions and short commands than any other previous pocket operator and so it required a proper no bs tutorial and review. The video also contains a menu index so that you can navigate the info more easily too. However, I do strongly recommend that you watch the whole thing because there's so much new stuff in PO-35.

    Thank you so much for making and sharing this video tutorial. This is one of the best tutorial I have seen on UA-cam this year! It is clear, simple to navigate through needed contents. Also I want to mention these(since I am a film makers myself) such high production values on the visual/audio design, filming and editing of the video itself. I enjoyed it very much. I had PO35 for awhile now, and I felt like I was only stretching the surface of it before I watched this. Please keep up great work!

      Thank you very much, that means a lot to me. Being a fellow video maker yourself, maybe you’d be interested In knowing that I’m using a somewhat limited setup to make my stuff. All of the content on my channel has been made using iDevices.
      .
      I record the video material with my iPhone 6s and I edit my videos on an iPad. I use a cheap $8 mobile lens set to get the macro, wide and fisheye shots. All of the audio has also been recorded using iDevices too. A few years ago it was harder to edit videos on iOS and I had to use a combination of apps to get results but as soon as LumaFusion came out, my work for easier. It’s a really competent video editing application made by filmmakers for filmmakers. This particular video took 2 months to prepare and about 120 hours to film and edit.
      .
      Either way I’m really happy you found my video useful and I hope that you’ll be able to have more fun with your PO35 Speak now.
      .
      Btw, I also did an interview with Magnus from Sonic Charge. He’s the guy who programmed the PO35. ua-cam.com/video/D730KX75kHk/v-deo.html

    Thank you for this must have instructional, specially for clearly showing the keys combinations that are not shown anywhere, not even on the manual. Now 3 questions if you spare some of your time;) 1: It seems that like on the drum unit, voices also share one channel, and can’t occupy the same spot on the sequence; is this correct?
    2: if you want to make a sequence of more than 16 steps, chaining patterns (after a copy process) is the way to go right?
    3: it seems like you only can change pitch and formant under performance mode, and not on the write/ edit mode? Am I missing something, or this is the way it is? Thank you so much. Your hard work is impressive and inspiring.

    I think I'm becoming confused between the PO-33 and the PO-35. On the PO-33 vid you said to come here and go to a certain part to learn about operations, but there seems to be things specific to the 35 in this part. I'm a straight beginner, and I have the drive to get into this. But I'm becoming frustrated by being unable to do just what I want to do.
    I will continue to look over these videos and try to piece everything together.
    It feels very difficult to get a basic beat going.

    Hello there PO afficionados, i am Pat from France.
    I cannot record anything new on my 2022 PO35, facing a "NOPE" signal every single time. I only recorded 3 vocals on it, then stored it on a shelf for two years (without batteries).
    So i got it back and tried again and again but alway that NOPE message. I cannot even erase my old samples from it, neither make a factory reset.
    it is just like if everything inside of it is frozen, protected.
    The other functions are still working.
    Any ideas?
    Thx in advance,
    Pat

    • @JakobHaq
      @JakobHaq  6 років тому +1

      Yes, PO-35 is running a more limited version of the Microtonic drum synth engine. So PO-35 can receive drum data from both Microtonic (PC/Mac) and PO32, but not the other way around. To clarify, PO-35 cannot send data to PO32. When transferring drum data from PO-32 and or Microtonic into PO-35, the only thing that gets transferred are the drum sounds. Pattern data gets ignored.

      I’ve never shared any sound set for the Synthesizer part of Po35. I’ve only shared drum sounds. Both PO35 speak and PO32 tonic can read those files so all drum sounds get switched out. However the PO35 only reads the sounds and not the patterns.

    Ok, let me get this right. So you have a fifth chord fx for the vox right? But what if you put the scale to major7? Would be the fifth chord effect it too? And can you put the chords into the 15 keys? The PO-20 can do this but you only have the same synth instrument. Hope for an answer. Thx 😃👍🏽. Nice categories Video man. A very deep overview. 👍🏽

    Wait, the data transfer can happen via nothing but the mic now? MINDSPLOSION

    • @JakobHaq
      @JakobHaq  6 років тому +1

      No. The PO33 and PO35 can only do backups (DATA DUMPS) through the headphone port in stereo at 44KHz minimum. And these two can only receive backed up data through the line input.
      .
      The PO35 however can also be updated with new Microtonic drum patches through the michrophone or line input. It can receive data from both Microtonic and PO32. This will only load drum sounds and not pattern data.
      .
      This is a bit complicated but I suggest you watch the segment about backing up data in my PO33 video. It's got a menu index so it's easy to find that tutorial section. It can sometimes be easier understanding something when it's graphically illustrated too. Here's that video: ua-cam.com/video/NmJoW-tiBSM/v-deo.html
      .
      Hope this helps! 👍🏼

    • @StarmanDeluxe2001
      @StarmanDeluxe2001 6 років тому

      Yes I meant loading drum sounds from uTonic into the PO-35, so it sounds like it is possible (since there is a part where you play the sound file and I guess that can load the data into the PO right through the mic). Thanks for the explanations and great video!

    Gr8 very useful tutorial, thanks so much. You are a P O. Jedi, Bro! One quick question, do you know if TE has acknowledged some type of weird battery drain issue with the PO-35 in standby mode? I say this because I have both PO-33 and PO-35, and if I change the batteries on each and leave them in Standby. In a few weeks the PO-33 is still fine, but the PO-35 is dead. Batteries drained. This indicates a problem with the unit, its design, or the software. Any ideas, I have heard others complain about this also...

      @JakobHaq  4 роки тому +1

      I’ve nerver come across this issue personally, but I’ve seen comments and posts online from user reporting similar issues. You might want to get in touch with TE support about that.

    Hi I have some questions for the KO:
    If I make a pattern from notes, but I want to take a part of that pattern to the melodic kit. Is it possible for the KO to "sample itself"? I am asking this in the context of "beating" the 4 note polyphony limitation.
    Can I sequence in triplets? Or make it 12 (4 triplets) instead of counting to 16?
    Looking forward to your reply. Thanks a lot! More power to your channel!

    Is having one channel for drums very limiting? I have three POs already but no dedicated one for drums (no 32, no 12). I am thinking about just getting the PO35 because I'm interested in the voice sampling (obviously) and the transposing feature and also it seems to have pretty good drum capabilities, considering you can swap out samples!

    • @JakobHaq
      @JakobHaq  6 років тому +2

      Just one drum channel is always limiting but if you've got more po's then you can link them up, get creative and spread out more. Drum elements between the lot. I've done that a lot on the past. Also I need to clarify that the drums inside PO35 aren't samples. The PO35 houses the same drum-synthesizer as PO32 Tonic, meaning it's powered by microtonic. So you need data transfers to swap out drum sounds, but there are plenty out there. I've got loads of genre based PO32 drum transfers for free on my channel that can also be used in PO35. Awesome right, I love that.

  • @shmiqqy
    @shmiqqy 4 роки тому

    at around 10:25 you adjust the speed and the tone, so changing the speed of a sample doesn't change the pitch? and changing the pitch under tone doesn't change the speed of the sample? i'd really appreciate an answer because if this is true, combining it with the noise/breath reduction option would make this a great sampler, since the po-33 nor the op-1 have time stretching/pitch shifting

    • @JakobHaq
      @JakobHaq  4 роки тому

      Yes, the PO-35 can time-stretch. But I really need to clarify something. The PO-35 is a voice synth and it always adds a synth-vocal-sounding “effect” to the sound. It does not play back sounds clean like a sampler. Everything you record into the po35 gets converted into Synthesizer data. What you’re working with are not really audio samples. I strongly recommend watching this video where I am comparing the sound between the PO-35 (synth) and PO-33 (sampler). There’s a huge difference in sound: ua-cam.com/video/ebN85r9KO3w/v-deo.html - The PO-35 was designed to handle vocals and make them into synthesised vox. The other one is a pure sampler.

      I'll try to explain the differences a bit better, because they're actually quite dissimilar from one another. PO-35 speak is a voice synthesiser. It records an audio stream in and converts it into DATA. Whatever you record in is always going to sound synthesised. There is no "clean" / "nofx" setting for that sound because it's not a sample once it's been recorded. It's got synthesiser settings coded specifically for voice Synthesis too like breath control (noise that runs through vocal sounding filter made to simulate breath sounds) and formant control (alters the sound from male sounding vocals to female sounding vocals). This is completely different from the PO-33 K.O and they cannot be compared because PO-33 is a sampler and will not synthesise the audio after it's recorded. You record an Amen break in, and it will still sound like an Amen break when it's played up. The PO-33 only deals with audio. Hope this clarifies it. 👍🏼

    The only thing I NEED to know is: What does the Japanese era Tenchō have to do with a certain tempo?

    • @JakobHaq
      @JakobHaq  6 років тому +1

      Jörg Wessels it doesn't. The metal series (32/33/35) all have this "TENCHO" spelling error. The screens where designed by a nine year old girl, her name is Ivana and she is the daughter of Teenage Engineering CEO and founder Jesper Kouthoofd. She misspelled techno for the first PO32 design and TE decided to keep that spelling design. If you search instagram for "Cuckoo Tencho" you'll be able to find a video with him doing a take on what he think "techno" really is. 👍🏼

    Sounds good and has interesting features. But if I'm being honest, I've always hated the pocket operator form. I'd rather they put it in a more respectable case with better controls. I don't want to fiddle with something that small, it looks downright irritating to use.

    Hi, so if I understand well, this PO 35 can be synced with Korg electribe 2(korg as a master and PO as a slave)? And when I change batteries, it will restore the the factory reset every time, or it will remember the presets as I had them before changing batteries?

    • @JakobHaq
      @JakobHaq  6 років тому +2

      If the electribe is using a klicktrack pulse for syncing then yes any Pocket Operator should be able to sync to it (I haven't tried it myself, since I do not own an electribe 2). Regarding the restoring function. As I stated in the video to perform a factory reset one has to remove the batteries and then press and hold in the WRITE and PATTERN button while inserting the batteries at the same time. This will load the factory settings and remove whatever was in the machine prior to the reset. So just simply just removing batteries and inserting them again shouldn't do anything at all to your sounds or patterns.

    • @JakobHaq

      Well no, not as data. But, PO33 is a sampler, so just connect the headphone output on the PO35 to the line input on the PO33 and sample the Sounds instead. 😉

    When you're backing up data, are you supposed to hear static like when importing sounds?

    • @JakobHaq
      @JakobHaq  6 років тому +3

      Yes, however what you’re hearing isn’t random static. The metal series PO’s (32, 33, 35) are utilising the same technique for sending and receiving data as the old dial-up modems where using (frequency-shift-keying). Hope this answers your question. 👍🏼

    Is the PO 35 Speak the same as PO 32 Tonic given that they both have access to microtonic? If so, I guess it would make sense to return my tonic, and switch it for speak given the added voice synthesizer feature. I know I'm missing something here... I need clarification please

    • @JakobHaq
      @JakobHaq  6 років тому

      Ok so, the drum section in PO35 speak is only 1 voice so only 1 drum sound can be played at a step. Drum sounds cannot be muted or soloed either and there are no accent controls. Oh and there's only 8 fx meant for the audio output. The first 8 (fx) options are voice synth states. Also when transferring patterns and drum sounds from Microtonic or another PO32 into PO35 the patterns will not load, only the drum sounds.
      .
      PO32 was specifically designed to be a drum machine with 4 voices. So up to four sounds can be played at a step at the same time. Also sounds can be muted and soloed. PO32 also has accent controls and 16 fx effects. When transferring patterns and drum sounds from Microtonic or another PO32 into a PO32 Tonic, all data will load, accent data, patterns and chains plus drum sounds.
      .
      These two Pocket operators where designed for different things. In the end it's all about what you need.

    i'm trying to make hip hop/trap beats and I want to sample my own drums through the line. is it better to go with the 35 over the 33?

    • @JakobHaq
      @JakobHaq  6 років тому

      PO-35 speak is a voice synthesiser and will convert any incoming audio into synthesised sound. So if you want to put your own audio drums in it then the PO35 speak is not the one you want. The drum machine inside PO35 is powered by microtonic just like in PO32 so if you want new drum sounds your going to need microtonic to change them or grab a free transfer file with new drums in them. So if you're working with audio then You most likely want PO33 which is a sampler.
